Cape On Cape Off

Opened up one of the Boston papers this morning in on my commute and found this.

Oscar gal Reese Witherspoon had her kiddies, but not her boyfriend, “Brokeback Mountain” cowboy Jake Gyllenhaal, in tow yesterday when she took in the 146th Annual Martha’s Vineyard Agricultural Society Fair in West Tisbury.
The Hollywood honeys have rekindled their romance in recent weeks after a two-month hiatus, and are spending their summer hols with Reese’s kiddies, Ava, 7, and Deacon, 3on the Vineyard.
However, there’s been buzz that the “Walk the Line” lady and her brood aren’t bunking in at Jake’s family’s digs up-island. She’s staying with other friends nearby. Because doesn’t all of Hollywood spend its summers on the Rock????

Looks like for one --On Cape and the other Off with the Cape. Is Jake with his real number one girl -- Ramona?

Here is the rest of the story courtesy of the Inside Track girls.

Reese Makes the Farm Scene, Minus Jake

  1. Apologizing if the Reese talk offends some.

Reese is the cover story on Entertainment Weekly. The mention about her and Jake, and her divorce from Ryan and keeps mum.

But there is a quote for Gavin Hood:
"''To this day, I genuinely don't know if they had a relationship,'' offers Rendition director Gavin Hood, who first met Witherspoon at the 2006 Academy Awards (the South African filmmaker was picking up a statue of his own, for Tsotsi). ''But I can promise you that Reese and Jake were never together on the set. All of Jake's scenes took place in Morocco and all Reese's in L.A. The only time they crossed paths — when the paparazzi caught them — was on the way into a wardrobe fitting. Maybe some chemistry happened as they passed in the parking lot that day — I don't know. All I can say is that she was absolutely focused when it came to making the movie.''"

  2. I am thinking that while Maggie and Peter are dealing Peter's recent Lyme Disease, Uncle Jake is pitching in taking care of Miss Ramona.

You can totally see Jake making up voices for all of her toys and her staring at him half in amusement and glee and half --is he for real?

  3. "Maybe some chemistry happened as they passed in the parking lot that day — I don't know."

That quote from Gavin is very funny to me. Anyway, all of these Jeese sightings/speculation/general craziness do not faze me in the least. I can't imagine anything changing my mind about J&A. I'm convinced that they were (and hopefully still are) a couple.

Someone on WFT pointed out this piece of misinformation about Austin which is also very amusing:

"It was all over the Internet the other day about how Jake Gyllenhaal ran a race on Martha’s Vineyard with another man -- and so it goes when you turn in an Oscar worthy performance in a gay cowboy movie. So who was his co-running man?

Gawker tell us he’s Austin Nichols, a sous chef at Mario Batali’s upscale Manhattan restaurant Babbo. From what we can gather the root of the Jake is dating Austin rumor is that race on Martha’s."

  11. Austin's comment about refusing to call his apartment "home" reminds me of Jake's discussion about his home which was very similar.

  14. I agree, PR hard at work at damage control.

It's things like the apt. comment that really says "couple" to me in a way that even the pictures don't. I think it is a reflection of how they think of at least some things in terms of "we" rather than "I".

    ReplyDelete
  15. I am sorry but that picture bothers me. Jake and Reese on MV at the same time? Not happy..

What the Track is saying is that Reese is on "The Rock" but Jake is not there.

That is what is so interesting.

He was just there this weekend. This calm man in a crisis needs to take a deep breath and calm down. I havent been this nervous since she was spotted in the Camry.

  19. Actually the Boston article says that Jake has been seen with Reese on The Rock:

"Meanwhile, when Jake hasn’t been soaking up the sun and fun on the Rock with his lady love, we’re told he’s been hanging out with Broadway director - and fellow long-time island res - Mike Nichols during his vacay. Gyllenhaal reportedly is going to star in “Farragut North,” a political drama directed by the venerable veteran of stage and screen, next fall - right around the time of the presidential election. Fancy that.

If he wasn't wouldn't they have said "while" he wasn't, not "when".

I took from the story is that he didn't accompany Reese and her kids to the Agricultural event on Wed., but he was seen having fun and sun with his lady love and hanging with Mike Nichols. Also she is staying at a home down the road from the Gyllenhaal home. It sounds like he is still there since they are talking now, not past tense unless they mean she was seen there before with them.

  20. Tom, dear, remember Ted`s words: "No worries, doll." Don`t worry, at least not yet. Remember, we were prepared for this:-)

    ReplyDelete
  21. No, the most important turn of the phrase is "we were told". The news of Jake and Reese together on MV enjoying the sun and young love came from an outside source. Now, I do wonder who that could be?

  25. I think it's sad and weird how someone would let this thing make them "wavery and shaky". That's just taking this stuff too far, Tom.

You cannot take anything in Hollywood as proof of anything else, just going by reports in magazines and on blogs. Even at WFT many of the J/A sightings were heavily criticized or dismissed.

Reese does have her own buddies in MV. She knows people in acting there and this lady has a wide circle of friends all over the States. The penciled in deets are the work of the PR people or local newspapers getting freaky with the fact they are both in the same area.

You should not take this stuff so seriously Tom, it's not worth it. See it for what it is, it's a ton of tease.

  30. Folks,
Just talked to Spesh and told her I need to leave the J&A fandom for a while. Some things are happening in my life that I need to attend to. I cannot spend the time online that I've been spending anymore. There are other things I need to deal with right now. I don't know how long this will go on or if I will be back. I may lurk, I may not, I don't know right now.
I've enjoyed all the friends I've made in this fandom. I hope you will all be willing to help Spesh get this place going. I think OMG could be great- with help from all of you. I am still a fan of Jake, a fan of Austin, and I am still on Team Jausty. I remain hopeful they will eventually come out- together. Take care of yourselves.

  43. This was posted on DL's "Have Jake and Austin Split" thread tonight, after a day spent bashing Austin and squeeing Jeese, and it's a supreme summation of the entire subject:

'Austin hates the rumors but Jake doesn't' 'Austin thinks the whole rumor thing is junk and shit'

The rumors started in Feb 2006. Have Jake and Austin not been seen together since Feb 2006?

No? Your theory is already blown out of the water.

And that's just the times they've been papped. The reality here is that no one here knows the last time Jake and Austin saw each other.

Chris wasn't papped with Jake between April and last weekend. Heath hasn't been papped with Jake since Oscars 2006 Lance hasn't been seen with Jake since they were on a talk show together in February. Adam Levine said in an interview two weeks ago that he and Jake no longer 'see' each other. They only communicate via email because they are both so busy.

All four guys have been linked with Jake sexually. So why haven't you accused any of them as distancing themselves when they haven't been seen with Jake for a while?

According to the same people, Jake is romantically with Reese. So wouldn't you expect him to spend the most time with his girlfriend? If he is spending more time with other people, I'd say he is in the wrong relationship.

Austin spent most of this year filming a tv series. In the rare time he had off, wouldn't it be reasonable that he has a bunch of people he needs to catch up with, one of whom is Jake?

Maybe they are just living their respective lives and catch up occasionally.

'Austin hates the rumors but Jake doesn't' 'Austin thinks the whole rumor thing is junk and shit'

If it had been a case of a bunch of Jakes fans saying they believed that j&A were together and a bunch saying they believed that J&A were just friends, I'd say that Austin was being unfair with his comment. But let's not kid ourselves for a minute that that is what happened.

A group of people opened up a blog believing that J&A were together and celebrating that. The rest of the Jake fanbase tried to pretend that Austin didn't exist. They shut down all talk of him, tried to pretend that they weren't even friends and stated a bunch of bs about how they didn't want to pry into Jake's private life. Funny how the same places have 24 pages devoted to Jake/Reese - Are they? Aren't they?

It became about Jake couldn't be gay because he's too good looking, too honest, too lovable, too warm, too caring, too etc. And if he happened to be gay, he couldn't possibly be with Austin. Because Austin is too skinny, too tall, too ugly, too big a forehead, too d list, too etc. And what of Austin? Well he couldn't just love Jake as a friend or a lover (even if Jake is the most lovable and perfect being). No, Austin would have to be in it to use Jake.

That's before we even get to the lovely names like 'Kneepad Nichols' and people actually believing that Austin is behind the WFT blog.

All these crazies have to live somewhere and most of them live in the US. So how do we know that some of this vitriol hasn't met Austin face to face? I wouldn't be suprised to learn that Austin has had to deal with some of this crap right on his doorstep.

With all of that in mind, I think what Austin said was kind of tame. I'd be saying a lot worse.

Even those who are for J&A slam Austin when something happens they don't like. Every time Ted C says something about Toothy they take it to mean that Jake is about to come flying out of the closet. When it doesn't happen, it must be Austin holding him in. If Jake Gyllenhaal is truly in the closet, he is the only person who is holding himself in. Of course, Jake maybe wanting a career more than standing up for the gays doesn't gel with the perfect persona you have created for him.

And for those lovely insiders, if Jake honestly doesn't care about the rumors, then it follows suit that he also doesn't care about the crap attached to it, and the hurtful things that have come his friend's way. In that case, Austin would be smart to be well rid of Jake.

Austin has done nothing wrong. In fact, the only thing he has done wrong is been unfortunate enough to become friends with the one actor with the most ridiculous and hypocritical fanbase.

  49. Austin has done nothing wrong. In fact, the only thing he has done wrong is been unfortunate enough to become friends with the one actor with the most ridiculous and hypocritical fanbase.

Wow, so well-written, and valid. This is why the vitriol aimed at WFT is hypocritical too. Because if it's coming out at a blog it was there to begin with, waiting. They can say that discussing an actor's sexuality and private life is wrong and hypocritical (except, only when it's about gay stuff, never hypocritical about how many fake girlfriends he's had) but you know that that dismissal and dislike of gay issues was there anyway, it had to be. So when IS a good time to talk about it? Never, in the eyes of some, and when others do want to talk about it it's therefore never the right time.

Well, that's democracy for you. If they don't want to discuss these things they don't have to but they shouldn't make out others are freaks for discussing it. As long as things stay respectful and calm then what's the problem? Some of us don't see the possibility of being gay or bisexual as a crime. Why should it be pushed under the carpet, it's not as if Jake has said he minds and I believe the words "flattered" were used.

  50. For those JFC watchers still bewildered and confused by the series finale last week - no Big and Huge, ever again *sob* - here's a bit of information from a man who worked on the JFC set. He is a regular poster over on the HBO boards and has provided insight to the show through his unique perspective.

    Unclemajohn said:

    9-11-14

According to David, 9-11-14 deals with a story line in which there was going to be a attempt of a genocide against the Muslims. "Those towel heads are going to get themselves eradicated." The whole purpose of John's visit was to create an "army" to prevent this from happening.
Cissy is the glue of a family that no matter how fucked up it gets, she protects it and keeps it together. She would be the glue that holds the purpose, the army of those against the genocide together.
Cass is the visionary who is also the media to get the word out that danger is lurking.
Mitch was the spokesman (PSA's) who would do the talking, there by getting back into the game.
Linc is the corporation and money who the world would take seriously and listen to. He is the spin doctor.
Barry, Ramon and Dickstein are the three wise men, brought together at the Snug Harbor, a scruffy dirty place sort of like a barn were a young Jesus now lives.
    Shaun is a Jesus.
Freddy and Palaka are warriors to do battle against the enemy.
Bill is the law, and a General.
Doc, well, he's the doctor who initially was going to help the poor from latiin America. Joe was going to smuggle them into the country for Doc to work on. There was once a whole story point about the Doc helping children with hairlip malformations.

tid bit: During the "parade" there was a man on the side walk who told Tina that he would jerk off to her movies. That was an incarnate of Mr. Rollins. When John started talking back to him, berating him, Mr. Rollins was suppose to turn into a pile of dust. Digitally of course.

If only Milch had been able to continue. I guess to HBO intelligent programing doesn't mean dick.

  53. About the “Austin vs. Jake/Jake vs. Austin” fights (thanks again Me for the link): I don’t get them either as they’re totally pointless and misguided IMO (at least from what I’ve seen of and heard about J&A). Both are ambitious and want to make it as actors. Their paths may be different but their aim is the same as their respective behavior makes it abundantly clear. They’re apparently ready to take whatever good and bad come with their professional target. HW is not for the weak of heart, you have to be a pretty damn tough SOB (*notice my affectionate tone*) to avoid being made mincemeat by that heartless star-making/breaking machine. And to survive you make popular as well as unpopular decisions.

I wouldn’t be here if I thought Jake and Austin were sweet irreproachable angels. I don’t believe in angels and if they existed they’d probably bore me to death (tee-hee-hee). And I might be wrong but in my book J&A do not quite qualify as “victims”.

I just love them as actors, their (personal) story reflects an extraordinary intriguing phenomenon which is the HW closet, the result of the undeniable homophobia of our society, the refusal to acknowledge the increasing readiness of the public to accept homosexuality or at least the financial benefits that could be derived from the gay and gay-friendly audience and the extraordinary narrow-mindedness of salesmen, which are, after all, the true foundation of modern HW. Of course, the fact that Jaustin is still an item after all these years (at least this is what I believe/think/speculate, etc.) has hit a soft spot in my Cartesian heart and I’d be a liar if I said that their personal saga doesn’t pique my interest, LOL!

Ok enough with Sunday sermons. Like I said I did some catching up during the last few days (have not finished yet) and I noticed the doubts some have expressed about Rendition. Well, I just can’t-wait-for-Rendition! I just loved the trailer. I know, I know these are cut fast and crispy and are not telling the whole picture but this flick is chock-full of great actors, the subject is just heart-wrenching to me (did you check the Maher Arar link I posted in the “Joe Namath” thread?) and Jake just looks and sounds great in it.

It's rather cold over here, summer is going, going and soon will be gone. But it's sunny and I wish you all a great Sunday!

Well those are questions we don't have answers for. And I don't know if we are supposed to know the answers either.

What name can we call you? As you can tell we like names, it helps keep the bar bills straight at the end of the night.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I've been in situations similar to this where I've dated divorced men with kids and let me tell you, they (the guys I dated) would NEVER have allowed a situation where they were on vacation with their children and I was nearby for them to tryst with--at least not so early in the relationship. Is Reese planning on marrying Jake? She's not even divorced yet. Their behavior is weird and if Ryan is complaining, I don't blame him. I doubt he would drag his kids to vacation with him while Abbie Cornish or whomever waits to rendezvous with him nearby. You don't do that unless you're serious and you've been with your bf/gf for awhile but this gal isn't even divorced.

By the way, I don't mean to sound like a prissy polyanna but I've been through situations similar to this as has my brother (who has two minor kids) and friends of mine so I think I know what I'm talking about.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Not to mention that if the Toothy Tile items are accurate (I think they mostly are), then really Toothy (Jake) had a hot tryst with his boyfriend in an area where they were seen by some other folks. So if Jake and Reese are somewhat real, then he's cheating on her big time. Which actually makes me happy because I think she's an obnoxiously self-entitled snob (but then again, so is Jake's mother I hear and supposedly we are always attracted to people who remind us of relatives or parents).

Very strange and suspicious situation this is.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Well, speaking as a single mother, there is no way that a person still embroiled in a custody battle would take their children across the country to be with their lover. No way in hell. In contentious divorces, every move is watched, examined and scrutinized as potential ammunition in court. Even the most innocuous thing can, and often is, used to win.

Don't care if the houses are across the island from each other, don't care if the two parties aren't together when the kids are around. The mere fact that Reese is there with the kids and Jake is too, it would be a huge blunder that any good divorce attorney could exploit. And in the fact that EVERYONE now knows she and the kids visited MV, and that EVERYONE now knows that she was there to be with Jake, makes this vacation either an outrageously ballsy Up Yours! to Ryan, or a huge miscalculation that could ultimately backfire.

Reese isn't that stupid, nor would she gamble with her children in such a cavalier manner. She probably received the invitation from the Belushi's to come east, and knowing what a PR boost it would be to seen there at the Gyllenhaal summer hang out spot, she accepted.

  72. Reese's divorce became final a short while ago. So I don't see what the problem is.

Can someone explain it to me.

  73. 12:04, exactly. My current bf (who is divorced and has a daughter) and my brother have both had custody issues with their respective exes. To do something like this is so incredibly stupid. Even if this is a great PR boost, it's still ammunition for Ryan to use against her. But clearly she feels self-entitled. I wonder if she would feel that way if Ryan did this. I guess not. And you can bet the rags that lionize Reese for breathing would skewer Ryan if he did this.

  74. dara your last sentence is very very true.

I was looking thru old BV of Ted's on Fanchitchat the other night and I went back to the first few TT BIs and in Ted's mailbag, he answered two questions asking if Orlando Bloom was TT. He mentioned that he'd had quite a few replies thinking it was OB and I'm guessing that's why he took him out of the equation straight away.

It kind of goes against those who think Toothy isn't Jake but that Ted just leaves him as a possibility to get back at Jake.

  75. Dara, i think it is a bit insulting to call Jake's mom a obnoxiously self-entitled snob when you have not even met the woman. As for Reese, Ryan and the kids, how do you know what is giong on with the custody agreement? You seem to be making opinions and judgements without having a clue of what is really going on. Neither Reese or Ryan are saints, but I don't get that they are bad parents. They seem to love and care for their kids.

  76. tbs, dara did say "I hear" and "I think". It's her opinion, you don't have to agree but she wasn't asking you to. ;)

In essence I agree that assuming things about Jake's parents are unneccessary because few people will really know them and often character gossip is passed on third or fourth hand based on hearsay or maybe one bad experience with a person that then gets amplified and become sout of proportion.

As a TB I've always gone easy on Jake's parents, I don't know them or their motivations and they're his folks, when all's said and done. I'm not really interested in discussing their lives. Let's leave that to the Broadwing troll and it's ott, know-it-all approach.
