Jake and Austin in the National Enquirer

50 comments:

  1. The question is this....

Is he upset about the baby rumors because it ISN'T true or because it IS true?

If you had something that you kept quiet about for almost 9 months and it was close to the end, and you almost have pulled it off. Wouldn't you be angry if that got messed up?

Somehow I could him seem laughing off the baby talk if it wasn't true. Just another crazy rumor. Not getting upset about it.

  2. Thanks for posting this, special. I really wanted to see the actual article.

Is Jake really angry or is this just the NE's way of reporting the gossip in a manner that keeps them safe from lawsuits?

    ReplyDelete
  3. No matter what happens, I wouldn't want to see it first in "National Enquirer". I just hope they have something planned in a more serious publication.

  4. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't I read that Jonathan Jaxson either writes for or feeds info to the Nat'l Enquirer?

And haven't I read that Jonathan Jaxson is from the Atlanta area? Which is considered the "South"?

I find it really coincidental that this byline was written by "John South". A nom de plume if ever a plume nommed.

Thank Wicked for this one! She was the one to track it down, scan it and share it.

There are a lot of questions about the motivation of this article.

I am interested in hearing what everyone thinks of this.

  6. Oops. Sorry, wicked. Thanks for tracking this down and posting it.

  7. Liz, I didn't notice the author was "John South". Hmmmmmmm, indeed.

  8. Oy, Jake should be angry that NE used the most unflattering photo of him! He looks like he's in the midst of blurping... lol Austi on the other hand looks good enough to eat.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Maybe the art director and/or editor is an Austin fan.

Liz, yes Jonathan Jaxson does feed stories to the NE. And he does write some too. He has frequently talked about this on his blog.

  10. Three Toothy letters.

    Dear Ted:
In your last Toothy tidbit you mentioned T.T. went to some big mags to talk about a story. Is this guy that famous or is the shocker his macho facade?
    Susan
    Denver

    Dear Status Q:
He's pretty big time in Tinseltown and beyond, trust.

    Dear Ted:
Is Toothy Tile Anderson Cooper? Hope this is not a repeat question. If he is, it is a sad day for the ladies in the house to lose such a hunk from our drool list.
    MJack
    Houston

    Dear Randy for Andy:
    The Coop ain't T.T.—think far more drool-ville.

    Dear Ted:
After all the hype over Toothy Tile, the reveal better be good. Jesse Metcalfe? Who cares?!
    Fiona
    Burlington, Vermont

    Dear Payday Gayday:
Uh, nope to J.M. (obvs), and if Tooth-doll ever decides to come out, you and your mother in Arkansas will most definitely care.

  11. Payday Gayday = end-of-month coming-out date?

  12. You know if the NE had any kind of balls they'd use 'that' picture from Lakers 1.

You all know which one I'm talking about.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Oh and I like how they manage to find a shot with the big blue ring

  14. Nice work by Liz ...

I particularly like this picture of Austin!

What do we think? Well, Jake looks happy enough these days, for someone who's mad as hell, so I just want to know that Austin is happy.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Thanks for the scan. I didn't realize the article was so big. It really makes the rumours more mainstream. I believe the NE simply wanted to write about the rumours and that they haven't really been in any kind of contact with Jake.

Austin is very prominently presented in the photos. Obviously he isn't considered very well known as the NE haven't quoted any of his "pals" for a reaction.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Well the funny thing just me is that Austin should be one of those pals.

It's not like some of these other rumours where the two people aren't really linked at all.

  17. What do we think? Well, Jake looks happy enough these days, for someone who's mad as hell, so I just want to know that Austin is happy.

In recent pics Jake looked like he was walking on a cloud. Literally. Is it because he was back in the limelight? Or something else. ;) :)
I truly wonder what NE's trying to do with this article. Again news about Austin would be more than welcome.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I still have fears that the friend quoted is someone from Jake's pr. I hope not because I find the quote about being a good sport really offensive.

And while the article is pretty bid, I think it is interesting that there is no reference to the article on the cover, and that it is not on the website. Maybe that is indicative of how much they believe their own article?

    ReplyDelete
  19. The layers of offensiveness in the "quotes" aren't even worth going into, destiny. Sheesh.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Do you think NE is trying to call his bluff?

    ReplyDelete
  21. That thought occurred to me.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I think NE is going as far as they can to elicit some type of response from Jake. I still don't see it happening though. My wish for a response would be for Jake to be back in LA and out and about again with A.

    ReplyDelete
  23. If you read the Gawker sighting that I posted yesterday, it said he was out with 2 male friends for lunch. When does that ever happen? You never see him with two guys.

I wonder if the other person, might not have been able to go to Toronto, but could come to NY.

Austin mentioned that he was in NY over the summer as well, in one of interviews.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Have you noticed the 'just friends?' inuendo written on the picture?

Special, It would be great if the two friends with him were Chris and Austin in the Gawker sighting.

    BTW, special check your email.

  25. The NE article is their attempt to have their cake and eat it i.e. dish the gossip , and pretend they really disapprove of such an activity.

It's the usual tab trick as well of a screaming headline, which doesn't match what is contained in the body of the article. If you read the strapline about Jake being incensed the reader naturally assumes Jake has personally commented. That quote from a "pal" may be his pr, but is just as likely to be fabricated.

I don't think Jake is "incensed". He claims to be "flattered" by gossip. I think he follows the old Oscar Wilde adage: "The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about".

However if he genuinely is angry, and the entire Toothy tale is untrue then he should say so. Clearly and unambiguously. That would stop about 90% of the rumors. (Some would always rumble beneath the surface). And he should spare his friend Austin from being more well-known for rumors than for his acting.

If he isn't angry, and the Toothy story is true then he should be amazed that he and Austin have hidden it for so long. And he make as well take this opportunity to come out.

Also if (and that's a huge if) Baby Tile is true he must know eventually he had to emerge from the closet. No time is any better, or any worse, than another really.

What Middle America will make of all this I don't know! I tend to think Jeese overwhelms it, and they'll generally ignore this.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Oh, and I think they used a Lakers II picture because pictures from Lakers I look too intimate. They're trying desperately not to be sued.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Northeast TB- if you are around, could you send an e-mail to OMG. We'd love to talk to you.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Do you think NE is trying to call his bluff?

NE must have heard about the rumors of Jake talking to a serious mag. Maybe they're trying to outrun a possible competitor by setting the stage for more articles about Jaustin? Does this sound farfetched?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Frenchy, an interesting theory. Maybe we should keep our eyes on the Enquirer.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Checking out this rag assiduously, yeah absolutely... Ah, the lengths we're ready to go for these boys! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Can someone post a link to the Gawker sighting? Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Interestingly the sighting has nos been removed from Gawker.

Very interesting, since we know that Jake was in NY over the weekend from the pictures at the US OPEN.

    Very very interesting.

But luckily I did a copy and paste and posted the sighting in the previous thread.

    Here it again:

Here is a sighting of Jake on Sat, the 8th from Gawker.

    2:00pm

I walked into Momofuko Ssam this afternoon for lunch and we saw him sitting there with his 2 male friends. Jake Gyllenhaal is extremely extremely attractive in person. He is also one of those celebrities who looks around and observes people so he seems friendly. Or do celebrities do that to make sure they're getting noticed? He doesn't strike me as that kinda person though. Anyways, he looked more slender than he does in the movies but not in a bad way, he is just really too handsome.

It was a pretty innocuous sighting. Well unless you are his PR.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Momofuko Ssam was closed Saturday afternoon on 9/8, so there was no way he nor anyone else had lunch there then. Gawker has been good in checking out sightings, they should actually check before posting though.

The person that picked that place for the "sigthing" for the cuisine probably had know idea obviously it was closed briefly that afternoon.

  34. This is all rather OT:

I just want to say that I'm loving the music choices people are making here - great stuff and nicely tuned to Jaustin. It's funny how their "soundtrack" wouldn't necessarily work in other places or for other people if that makes any sense.

I remember reading a lot about Jake at the time the first Arcade Fire album came out and it wasn't just a case of a random record later reminding you of a time. That whole set of songs had a real Jake aura to them; quite joyous and bold. Then some time later either MTV or another awards show used one of those songs while Jake walked out on stage. It sent a shiver up my spine.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Riddle me this:

If his PR wanted to halt all the spec on the gay thing wouldn't they hold up any pictures of Jake with anyone except Reese, Peter or family?

Funny how stories of Jake with a guy in LA, you only see Jake. But when Jake with Chris in Toronto and in NY, they get the play.

If Chris was the real BF...why would PR so stupid.

    Hmmmmm

    Just an observation.

    ReplyDelete
  36. (((((BLTB))))) You do not know the problems we have had trying to get songs to play and you don't want to know! Hearing that someone appreciates it has just made my whole day! Can you e-mail us the Arcade Fire that was playing for Jake so we can put it on?

    ReplyDelete
  37. 1:42PM: That's because Jake doesn't have a BF, Chris is a longtime friend. People can gossip and speculate all they want because neither Jake, Chris nor his PR give a rats ass. After the Star ran their lame-ass story on Jake and Austin last April (Only to be out done by the NE lame-ass and nasty I might add) story this year, Jake went to NY to hang with Chris very publically. That issue of NE was on the stands in the US and Canada on 9/7, the day of the Rendition opening. He and his PR were well aware of it and so were several reporters there. And yet there was Chris, true there were the Reese stuff including them cutting out on the Rendition after party to go to the Time/Michael Clayton party but you would think that even though Chris wasn't mentioned in the article, that Chris would not be so visible.

I really don't care for being a number (1:42), and that is why I put my name on my post.

  39. Why do you think Lainey is not talking about Jeese?

She said the Jake/Reese/gay rumors were all over TIFF and she promise to post her observations about it but there is nothing yet.

    I find it weird.

  40. Because there is nothing to report.
And Joaquin didn't even bother to show up LOL

  41. Ted's response with the nod to Arkansas and you and your mother stuck out --

Then I read a comment left over on Eonline:

Ok. Now it is starting to make more sense that TIme or Newsweek would be interested. The Arkansas tip having to do with gay adoption/foster care being shot down. Perhaps Toothy is going to come out and highlight gay adoption at the same time. If someone were concerned about image admitting to being bi or gay and adopting a baby at the same time --and announcing at same time is brilliant! And I am sure he is happy with his babe & new expected babe too. kikilove on 09/11/2007 7:13AM

  42. Special K, sorry, but are you saying that every single paparazzi pic of Jake and a male would need to be ok-ed by PR before going out? I guess I don't understand the meaning of your post...

    ReplyDelete
  43. Awww, wicked! Well, it's made my day to know I've made yours. I really do dig the music on here so I appreciate the effort it's taken. I love hearing music when it comes to Jake and I especially love hearing what he likes. Austin, too!

The Arcade Fire track is called "Wake Up" and the beautiful "choir" singing was the part they were playing when Jake walked out. Perfect. I'll be excited to hear it here!

Sorry I'm so hella off topic all the time. I've said so many times on WFT that others speak for me very eloquently. Needless to say, I'm a waiting TB.

  45. BLTB- I love that Arcade Fire song and we will try to get that on this week. Ask and ye shall receive. If anyone else has a request, please let us know.

Today is 9/11. Today I wrote 3 letters in support of Sabri Ben Kahla and sent him a card. Today I was glad that it was not 6 years ago and I was not sitting in my VA apt. watching the Pentagon burn. Today I was glad that I could do something that might help someone who the government has treated unfairly. I bet there's something you could do today too.

  46. From Toronto 101 @ Eonline:

    5. Jake Gyllenhaal Is a Backpacker: Don't know what that means? It's a term used to describe die-hard hip-hop fans, and I call him that because he told me he is loving the new Talib Kweli album right now. Our interview for his latest film, Rendition (costarring Reese Witherspoon), got really intense because, let's face it, it's about a suspected terrorist who's detained and tortured. To lighten the mood, I asked Jake if he still had the Indigo Girls on his iPod, something he told me several years back. Didn't see that one coming, did ya!

    Heph

    ReplyDelete
  47. Talib Kweli! Nice. I love hip-hop, too, but not the commercial stuff. Kanye definitely has some catchy tracks, but it's good to see Jake exploring the less-than-mainstream stuff. Now, what was I just saying about Jake and music earlier? :)

    Thanks for finding this, Heph!

So like, yeah, you can almost see the clouds part and form the words "Broadwing" before even reading this almost unintelligible hotchpotch. And we get called "Fangurls"? Lol, so think the words "gimme a break" apply.

On a different note, interesting point about the Enquirer article being written by John South. I too think it is just a way of putting the gossip out there, drawing attention to the rumors and to JJ's blog through word of mouth and throwing in a hefty denial to cover themselves.

Ah JJ, once a publicist always a publicist right? Throw your quarry tote wolves once you've done or once you're cornered. It's sad. We're the people that would stand by an actor if he or she came out, but some of these bloggers just use actors to drum up publicity, absolve them of responsibility and in their back-stabbing ways, sell other gays down the river. They might feel they're justified if said gays are closeted and lying but it's still ver y dog eat dog and there's very little apparent "kindness" to be found in Hollywood anywhere.

  49. tote wolves = to the wolves

absolve them of responsibility = absolve themselves (the blogger/s) of responsibility

but it's still ver y dog eat dog and there's very little apparent "kindness" to be found in Hollywood anywhere.

Further to this, I'm not surprised some celebs complain they want to get out.
