  1. Great Post!!!

I never ever had a cute teacher like that.

Unfortunately, being in Europe I can only see the Teacher's Pet;)

I can tape (record on DVD - don't know the word in English) Jonathan Ross.
    Can anyone tape Friday Night?Lights?

  3. I tried, it's not working

I get always get a message like this: the clip you selected is not available in your location, choose another one... Needless to say the other clip is not working either.

So please tell me tomorrow how Austin was in FNL

  4. hi... i am taking refuge here, wft seems to be swamped by jeese and trolls. :(

thanks for the news special k - i will definitely get on nbc.com tomorrow and catch that episode. Austin looks to die for there.

Winterbird hi! welcome, stay, look around enjoy ... we might have few more Austin pics you might like. : )

  6. Hi,

Got a smile this morning from your great post and song - looking forward to staying after school to watch the teacher on Friday Night Lights tonight! Great pic of Austin. ;)

  7. thanks special k, my eyes just can't move away from Austin's face and the ring... :)

  8. “He now regrets not coming out, as he sees more and more people doing it,” fessed a close amiga to Corny-babe. “His wife doesn't know. Hardly anyone knows.” (But some sure do!)

Yes, as is so often the case when we embark on the Blind Vice alleyway, we are discussing yet another closeted fake-hetero **** movie star. How utterly surprising.
    TC's One Lamentable BI today:

"Too sad, really, as not only is Corny sweet as his (in-shape) tits, he's also a most politically aware, very astute guy. So, why give in to this ersatz way of life?

“He thought he could wish it away,” adds the loose-lipped bosom buddy.

Let's hope Jake doesn't go down this route to regret.

    ReplyDelete
  9. How I long to see that ring. Where is that ring? Lets hope it has been only stored away in a safe place and replaced by the band around his neck.

Fr. Gavin and Fr. Lyons looked nothing like that. Either did
    Sr. Mary Justice. Wooooooo!!!!!

  10. Austin is so handsome in the picture above:) Looking forward to a lot of Jake the next days(i usually like him scruffy, but the beard now is a little to much even for me. Glad it`s for his role in "Brothers").
Yes, gc, let`s hope Jake never goes down this route. Must be awful to feel the way Corny does now:( I wonder who he might be.

  11. Another thud-inducing picture of Austin. It'll be nice to get my Austin fix as I really got used to seeing him on a weekly basis in JFC.

NG, FCC speculation is that Corny is Matt Damon or Ben Affleck, the former because he has apparently dropped a lot of weight before most of his films, the latter for the politically astute clue.

  12. No time to linger but I just wanted to drop by and say hello and thanks for one more great post!

I'm ready for my first look at FNL. After this episode I'll decide if I buy the first season. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  13. Tom, I just got this image in my head of Sr. Mary Justice. It was not pretty! My guidance counselor looked nothing like Austy. She also did absolutely nothing for me. I went to college in spite of her, not because of her. Hopefully Austin's character will be more helpful!

  14. phew! to be honest I am happy that he doesn't want to play comic book superheros anymore. Those men in spandex characters do nothing for me. I especially don't want him to pick up the Spiderman role. If he wants to play Jason Bourne-like role, that could be a possibility...

although when he said that, it reminds of the period when Johnny Depp tried his hands on action film with the ill-fated "Nick of Time". I am not entirely sure if either Jake or Johnny Depp are made for such roles. But to quote Ang Lee on Tony Leung: "a good actor is a good actor". So surprise me, Jake.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I still would love to see him play a rogue, a smooth talking charming thief. Lots of action to go with that devilish charm. He does have that look he gives when he know he is absolutely doing something he shouldn't and loving every minute of it.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I would love to see Jake play a rogue, too. But a real person, not a cartoon character or superhero. I really don't understand this fascination by actors with playing a superhero. Most of those roles are not interesting. Now playing a guy like Jason Bourne, that's interesting!

    ReplyDelete
  17. I think his "ex-con, stealing his brother's wife" role in Brothers will be really interesting... :)

    ReplyDelete
  18. I agree, I'm really looking forward to Brothers.

I kinda liked the idea of Jake taking over the Spiderman role when I first heard about it, but I agree that a Jason Bourne-type character would be a whole lot more interesting.

Looking at this pic of the teacher, I hope I get two-weeks' detention! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  19. I agree, Tom, it is nice to see The Ring again. One ring mystery was bad enough, but for Austin to provide a second mystery...!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I think the desire to play a superhero or similar character has more to do with getting a large audience and hoping to get on the A list, and the fact that so many of those types of movies are being made because of the money they make. Plus Depp made it cool for actors who would have never done a movie like that before to do so. The problem is that almost all of them end up being crap. I think doing a Bourne-like movie is the smarter move, not only because it is more likely to actually be any good, but because I think actors who do roles like that seem to have more interesting and successful careers over the long haul.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Jake could exude "evil charm" in a role like no other, but I agree it would be more interesting within the confines of a regular person rather than a superhero or an over-th-top cartoonish character. I think his role in Brothers is going to be very interesting. I think he's going to play a lot of it quietly, subtle and "bubbling under". I've been looking forward to seeing him play a character that has some background we can see and experience. I like the fact that he'll be the close-to-home brother. Steady, but with a lot going on. I think he's going to devour that role.

I'm definitely going to try and tune into FNL tonight! Is it an hour? I must admit I get a little restless when anything on TV is over 30 minutes, lol. An hour seems to be standard now. *But*, time should be of no consequence for Austin!

I'm laughing at the Van Halen song. My brother linked the video to his blog recently and me and my siblings were remembering how we used to watch it as kids simply to catch Eddie Van Halen's guitar solo - the best part of the video. Oh, and the "mini" Van Halen, lol.

Or, it could just be a "boy" thing. Boys like comics books and comic book superheros. ;-)

I am very much looking forward to seeing Jake play what promises to be a complex role too, BLTB, and I so agree about the Van Halen video, I got a smile this morning remembering watching it as a kid too. ;)

  24. Will we see any interviews with Austy talking about FNL? I hope so.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I forgot about the "boy" angle Liz. :-0

Unfortunately I don't think we'll see Austy interviews. I think we got really lucky with JFC not only because he was one of the stars, but because it got more attention than most shows because of Milch and the fact the HBO needed a new hit to replace the Sopranos.

  26. I really miss the ring!!!!

  27. Just watched Jake on Jonathan Ross...

actually I didn't see it coming, Jonathan Ross usually doesn't ask personal question - unless it's a humourous subject. But at the end of the interview, he asked Jake "I have to ask you for the ladies here, are you single at the moment?"

Jake laughed and said, "for the ladies or for the band?" (note, JR's in-house band is gay-4-men-band called the "three poofs and the piano" and they were wearing T-shirt with Jake's face on it the night).

Then Ross said, "for the ladies and the band"

and jake answered (smiled the whole time), "yeah... i'm single for the ladies. and I'm single for the band"

Seems like he's still holding the ambiguous card...

NB: this might not be the exact wordings they said and sequence, I only watched it once... and my mind just boggled when he suddenly switched to this line of question.

well... at least Jonathan Ross didn't even mention Reese once, he talked a bit about Meryl Streep and he liked Rendition a lot himself (Ross is also a respected film critic in UK)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Sorry, someone just told me that actually Jake said, "I'm single for the ladies, but not for the band", then he apologised to the band and said he loved their T-shirt...

    oh well.

    ReplyDelete
  29. JW

    22. 59: Jonathan asks Jake about his love life on behalf of the ladies and the band. Jake says he's single for the ladies but not for the band. They look a little put out.

  30. It just amazes me that he can jump on a plane and fly what, probably 8 or 9 hours to London for just a weekend. But then again he's working, it's paid for, he flies first class most of the time, I'm sure, lol. And we know he loves to work. He always seems completely committed to his schedule and obligations, it must be an easy part of his PA's job, knowing he'll be dependable.

I'm really looking forward to hearing about the Jonathan Ross show! It'll have already taken place by now.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Well that's a nice little Jeese dampener and Jake's not single for the band because he's got Austin. :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. on the other hand, if he's single for ladies, it means he's not with Reese. and he's not single for the gay band, cos he's engaged to Austin! :P

Anyway... there are many good funny bits in the interview. For example, Jake said he swam to England when Ross asked what he'd do for the environment. And that he has to leave now cos he has to swim back. :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. Wonderfully obscure Jake!

He really knows how to talk around this subject.

    ReplyDelete
  34. This is very OT, but just saw an interview of a norwegian dancer(won a contest on tv in Norway). He got a deal(trying to be famous) in New York.- They sent him to L.A.
He said the only way to have a chance to get famous without have to wait for six-seven years was: know people, sell his soul or sleep with someone important. Don`t know if it`s true, but would not surprise me. He said that place is ten-times worse than people hear, without experience it.

    ReplyDelete
  35. i wouldn't be surprised about that Norwegian girl...

recently I watched a film programme and they interviewed Neil Gaiman (writer of the movie "Beowulf"), he had a funny quote about LA and people in the film industry, he said he eventually learned that those people simply like to lie, they are not all bad people, but they lie for "recreational" reason!!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Can't wait to see Austin on FNL. Like Destiny, I got used to seeing Austin every week while JFC was airing.

Interesting comment from Jake. I had the same thought as everyone else here when I read it: single for the ladies, but not single for the band because of A. :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. "JR - "Can I ask, on behalf of the ladies, and the band (four gay men), are you single?"

JG - "For the ladies, or the band?"

JR - "It's your career. Does it really matter?"

JG - "At this point, yes. So for the ladies, yes I'm single. For the band, I'm not".

    Totally ambivalent to me-------

    ReplyDelete
  38. Does he mean he's single for the ladies, but not available for gay men??

    ReplyDelete
  39. How strange: to make the distinction for your career does it matter at this point yes. Odd.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Hi 8:31

It there name we can put to your observation?

    ReplyDelete
  41. I take that to mean he's saying he's single for the sake of his career.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Well it looks like it is not Austin as the Guidance Counselor

    Sorry for the wrong speculation!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Could certainly be read that way, Wicked, but Jake is the master of ambivalence at this point.

    ReplyDelete

oooh. Damn. Back to the spoilers board I guess.

  45. WDW has a link to the video of Jake on Jonathan Ross.

    ReplyDelete
  46. So has Austin turned up in FNL yet then?

    ReplyDelete
  47. "JR - "It's your career. Does it really matter?"

JG - "At this point, yes"

That pretty much says it all, doesn't it?

    ReplyDelete
  48. So is Austin going to be playing a student then?

    ReplyDelete
  49. I don't think so, from The Statesman they said he would be playing a teacher, I guess we will have to wait and see.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Is this lastest version of the interview what he really said?

    ReplyDelete
  51. ^I really need to know.

    ReplyDelete
  52. 9:34

Do you have a name we can call you? And are you referring to Jake or Austin?

    ReplyDelete
  53. For me, this interview is Jake at his best again. Not only is it ambigious, he also makes a very clear distinction between the two most prominent rumors in his life - the Jeese one and the Jaustin one.
And then he goes on to deny one of those rumors and that is the Jeese on, because no matter how you read the comment, whether he means that he is completely single or just without a girlfriend, in both possibilities he is not dating Reese.
Now what does the not denying the Jaustin part say?

    ReplyDelete
  54. "JR - "Can I ask, on behalf of the ladies, and the band (four gay men), are you single?"

"JG - "For the ladies, or the band?"

JR - "It's your career. Does it really matter?"

JG - "At this point, yes. So for the ladies, yes I'm single. For the band, I'm not"."

That seems to be the definite quote 9.34.

    ReplyDelete
  55. How do YOU read Jake's comments SK?

    ReplyDelete
  56. ^I wouldn't be surprised if Austin turns up as a student. He's very fresh-faced.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Now I can sleep.

    Night Mrs. R.

    ReplyDelete
  58. GC's transcript at 8:16 is accurate. I just watched the video at WDW. Thanks, WDW for posting that. To me, Jake is saying that at this point it matters for his career that he is perceived as single for the ladies and not the band (men).

    ReplyDelete
  59. 9:46

A name is so much better than a number. Even for just one post, one hour, one day. Can we call you FNL for now?

    ReplyDelete
  60. I find it odd that JR brought up the personal question anyway. He's a real film buff and usually doesn't. I find it very odd that he says "it's your career".

    ReplyDelete
  61. Spesh, maybe that anon should be called freshfaced anon?

    ReplyDelete
  62. I think he is very shrewd about what he says and how he says it. I agree that these are the two biggest rumors out there.

He makes it known that he is single for the ladies -- no Reese. But not for the band -- there is someone -- Austin. He didn't lie, he didn't give the exact truth. Everything stays a little gray.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Wicked

That might be a great name!

    ReplyDelete
  64. Did anyone think the dating/single thing was a little off the cuff at the end of the interview, just something to throw in ?

    ReplyDelete
  65. I have to say that right now I'm just happy the whole Jeese BS was finally denied!

Looks like, as important as his career is to him (and why shouldn't it be, it is for everyone else too), he won't go down the full bearding route.

Now if that isn't one thing that makes this interview great, I don't know what is.

(And yes, obviously I bought those nice rose-colored glasses after Special recommended them and I have to say I really like them ;)

    ReplyDelete
  66. You know the JIS group will read this differently - he's denying he's with Reese for career reasons, and he is saying he is off-limits to gay men because he is completely and utterly straight. Not the way I read it however...

    ReplyDelete
  67. You know the JIS group will read this differently - he's denying he's with Reese for career reasons, and he is saying he is off-limits to gay men because he is completely and utterly straight.

They have been saying that for ages. But what they still haven't answered is: what profesional gain does he have from keeping his relationship with Reese hidden? It would seem to me that having a girlfriend for everybody to see and therefore "proof" he's straight, might help his career a little bit more...

    ReplyDelete
  68. ^i meant "prove he is straight" of course

    ReplyDelete
  69. Convinced, the JIS crowd can read into these comments the same thing we can- Jake realizes that it is important for his career that he is seen as both single and straight.

    ReplyDelete
  70. The more I read that comment from Jake the more it reads like in public for women he's a single heart-throb, for the gay men he's not at all single. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  71. Toothy sooo wants out of the closet but can't for career reasons

    ReplyDelete
  72. Everyone here has elaborated beautifully on what was my quick, gut reaction. Nicely put, all. :) I can't read it any other way. Jake is incredibly sharp to say the least.

I had to wince a little at Jake's reaction to being introduced via BBM and the lame joke from Jonathan Ross while he was still in the green room. It was a duel expression of "c'mon man, I've released two movies since then" and very fierce protectiveness - and why shouldn't he have felt those things. I love how he guards BBM instinctively. And I know Jonathan Ross is a good, intelligent man, he knew he'd stepped in it immediately and back-tracked.

On a FNL note, I forgot to tune in anyway! :(

    ReplyDelete
  73. Did Jake knew about that question before hand or not? Because he is indeed incredibly sharp, brilliant, if he put that answer together in a few seconds...His brain thinks quickly.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I'm wondering that, too, zero, but only that it might have been indicated to him that they'd ask about his being single or not. I can't really imagine him knowing exactly what JR would say. Needless to say, as we all know, Jake is a quick thinker and wit on his feet, he can keep up with the fastest and sharpest of interviewers and that's no small thing. he handled what turned out to be a slightly uneasy interview deftly. His his passion, graciousness, charm and overall genuine ways continue to move me. I know I'm preaching to the choir here, hehe.

The rest of the interview (which I've just seen thanks to the great WDW site) really shows that; Jake gets his good-natured jabs in. It's very interesting to see his "single" comment in context and being able to see his expression. I'm quite firm that he meant it as we felt he did.

And, also needless to say, he looked lovely. :)

    ReplyDelete
  75. A comprehensive list of the all the songs played on JFC!

I loved the songs played on that show. Milch uses music really well.

    ReplyDelete
  76. thanks for the transcript. I have to watch the interview again (waiting for my bf to go out!)...

what I find odd is, why does he want to add "for the ladies or for the band?" when he could have just said, "yeah, i'm single" and get it over with. Cos when he said that, Ross then brought out the "does it matter to your career" bit.

i like Jake's answer, because if he wanted to appear as straight but politically correct, he could have said something like "it shouldn't matter to one's career. but yes, i'm single for the ladies".

but he distinctly made the point about "yes, at the moment (it does matter to his career) and yes, he single for the ladies, but not for the gay band.... "

?????? i think you can really read into whichever way you want from his answers.

JIS would think he's making a clear "preference", but I believe he's denying Reese and keeping Austin secret but alive. And kind of admit it's for career reason....

Actually this kind of remind me of what George Michael said recently - about why he didn't come out sooner. He said because he was ambitious, he wanted to know "how far he could go", he knew if he came out, he would have achieved what he had.
it's not the best way, but it's a reality, unfortunately.

So... no Austin on FNL last night?

    ReplyDelete
  77. Sadly no Austin on FNL last night. We will keep you posted on when he is going to be on.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Winterbird, the reason Jake mentioned the band because when Ross asked the question he said are you single for the ladies and/or the band.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I loved Jake on this show. What a great sense of humor. I thought his answer to the single question was perfect. imo he is saying he is not with Reese, and he is with Austin

    ReplyDelete
  80. tbs, thanks. yes, i do realise that Ross mentioned the band first (after watching it again), but Jake could have "ignored" that bit and just said, "yeah, I'm single"... without voluntarily making the distinction and have Ross asked that follow-up question relating to his career.... it just seems odd to me. :)

    ReplyDelete
  81. Didn't Austin give an extraordinarily similar answer recently?

    ReplyDelete
