Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing

  1. No name with your post how do we know if you are really for real.

Pick a name and use it for now and maybe save it for later.

  2. Austin was great on FNL! Great and gorgeous. :)

If you haven't seen it, and want to, go to Austin Media. There'll you find a big bunch of screencaps too.

  3. hjulia, just been looking at your screecaps. Confirmation (if needed) that Austin looks pretty fine in a shirt and tie. He is absolutely gorgeous.

    thanks

  4. I decided last week that I wasn't going to dicuss Jake or Austin for a while but I have just a few things to say about what I read yesterday.

    1. Jake is sure well aware of what is being said on the internet. Not sure if he himself follows what is being said or if someone is making him aware of what is being said.

    2. What I heard mostly in this interview was Jake mocking the rumors themselves and trying to make light of them.

    3. I also believe they are slightly offensive and not well thought out in regards to his supposing respect for his gay fans and friends.

    4. Jake is very clever with his words. He certainly leaves you with an impression of what is going on in his life without using words like yes or no, gay or straight. Actually he is a master at it.

    5. My last thought is how much Jake has changed in such a short period of time. I am not sure what has actually happened in his life which makes it seem like he is not the person he was just a short period of time ago. I really miss the old Jake.

  5. I like to add one more comment to what I said above. The word that sticks mostly in my mind right now is how unprofessional Jakes remarks were. Very unprofessional.

  6. ITA - there ain't nothing like the real thing.

Haven't had a chance to see FNL yet so I'm still looking forward to it. Thanks for the screencaps, hjulia. Austin looks yummy. Love his stubble and love him in a shirt and tie.

  7. Had to DVR FNL and hope to watch it today.

    To respond to Tom's comments-

    1. ITA Ted has said this too.

    2. Jake was mocking the rumors. All the rumors about his dating life- gay and straight. Interesting to me that HE is the one who brings up rumors about same-sex dating. At least that's the way the interviewer makes it seem.

    3. I felt Jake was joking through the whole interview. He did not say anything to suggest he was offended by being seen as possibly gay. I did not see his remarks as homophobic. However, I do see the choice to beard as homophobic.

    4. Jake is a master at using words to hide behind.

    5. ITA Jake has changed. It seems he is becoming much less open and more guarded. I think he is taking the advice of his PR.

    6. The interview was odd because Jake seemed to be trying to come across as straight and toe the PR party line, but kept bringing up things like the rumors and Reese/beards. He should not be saying those things if he wants to be seen as straight.

  8. Never, in all my years in the profession, as there EVER been anyone that comes close to Austin in the faculty lounge.

    Vey iz mir!

Almost makes Texas look appealing. Almost.

And I've only seen the screencaps.

  9. Not to go OT but its interesting how the fold in the cover of Esquire magazine is half and half on Jake. Half of him is out, the other half is hidden inside the fold. "Performance of the Year"
I guess maybe someone had to be divided in the cover picture but its just kinda, i dont know....ironic.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Interesting how the quotes from that interview were held back until now. I agree with wicked that he shouldn't be bringing up these topics, even in a humourous, mocking way, if he wants to appear as straight. He comes off almost maniacal; it's pretty disconcerting. I also agree with Tom that it seems like a different Jake has appeared overnight. He is absolutely following some sort of master guideline, but he's very Jekyl and Hyde about it. Something's got to give unless he's so dead set on maintaining all this that he manages to pull himself together. At the moment I see a dam with a lot of small leaks in it.

I completely missed FNL. Thanks to the goodness of hjulia, I'll have to catch up!

  11. Sorry guys, but how old are these pics now? About two years, right.
I do admit that I thought he is gay. Not so sure anymore. Tend to believe he played us. Tend to believe he thinks playing with his fans is a funny game. Sure, he never said he is gay, there was never really hard evidence. But he sure loved to be ambiguous and implying things.
Now, with this interview, he again bluntly states that he wants to have nothing to do with his ambiguity. He (but to be fair also Austin in every interview during the summer) loves to make jokes now about fans assuming he is gay/bi, he really is successful in implying that this was just overheated imagination on his fans brains and he loves sex with women. He has a twisted way to make people feel that he is dismissing this rumor and is laughing right in their faces for believing he is anything but straight, giving the impression that he couldn´t care less what these really strange people are believing. At least I interpreted it that way.

    ReplyDelete
  12. he's very Jekyl and Hyde about it.

Some people are internally consistent- they are the same person regardless of the circumstances. Others are not, and change themselves to better match what is happening around them. Jake has always been in the latter category. But this has to be the most internally inconsistent I have ever seen him be. It's gotta be taking its toll.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I agree with wicked and bltb about the beard comments. And even IF he is straight and seeing Reese (I doubt both) him saying that she has a beard is weird. Rude, actually...it could be taken that she has a lot of facial hair or she has an unkempt pubic bush, something that no respecting straight man would reveal about his woman in an interview for gawd sake. What an awful (but funny) thing to say! The things Jake comes up with....... :D So the "beard" quote makes me wonder what he meant.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Since this interview was conducted BEFORE the Rome debacle, perhaps Jake was giving his 'unique' fanbase a heads-up of what was to come, i.e. Reese as a 'beard'.

Also, that comment about not having sex could also be a indication that Reeke is for show only, nothing but separate bedrooms.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I think the "beard" joke is kind of disrespect to Reese too (can't believe I am actually saying this!), it's like he's crossed a line with his joke. but then... we only have the "words on paper" to judge, we don't know the whole context and the tone... so I can't be sure.

That interview is both fun and weird... i think he was trying to sound clever, ironic, even affable, but somehow come across as slightly bitter. i don't think he sounded offended by the gay rumours though, just amused... but i agree, also carried a tone that he wanted to come across as a "funny straight guy talking about gay rumours".

i think the timing is strange - why do think print this interview after Reeke has gone public? i don't know anything about "Inquirer",what kind of publication is this?

*off to watch some Austin screencaps"

  16. ^^8:59 - Heh, I wondered about that too, Naughty Jake. As usual, he has us in a quandary. But, I did see our Austi on FNL last night and I thought he was marvelous. Very attractive, very confident acting and a good teacher! I loved the scene where he was critiquing Julie's article. I liked his voice for some reason.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Honestly I don´t think he gives a damn when it comes to his "unique" fanbase. Probably this attitude is covering his feelings concerning all his fans as such. We are just a strange bunch of people to him, he couldn´t care less. If anything I guess he prefers the average person, who isn´t really interested in gossip, who likes him regardless of what he does or says and pays for his/her seat and DVD. Easy work, appreciated, and probably the majority of his fans. Well, who doesn´t want an easy life. Can´t really blame him. I also think he is just using Reese and yes, this beard thing was kinda rude. Don´t believe for a second he is sending messages to anyone, least of all his troublemaking unique fanbase, it seems like he has enough of them and their demanding ways.
He´s a reckless, selfish and pretty young boy, who wants all that life has to offer and more without having to give anything. Can´t really blame him, he´s just mortal. Apropos: he does not give the impression that he is down anymore after the bo-tank, he´s really cocky again.

    ReplyDelete
  18. There's no reason for him to be down about it, it was a wonderful performance in an excellent, engaging film. He I believe is being advised to "branch out" now, into a larger audience. For the longevity of having a career doing what he loves, he may have no choice. :(

    ReplyDelete
  19. At this point in his career Jake is a product not an individual. He is shedding the gay friendly sweet guy image and becoming the macho cocky individual that he thinks he needs to be. He wants to be Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Johnny Depp type of star. I sure everyone who advices him wants the same. Everybody gets rich.

I think the reporters were very professional during the interview. Jake brought up the gay rumors and bearding jokes on his own. I think he came to the interview with the intention of doing so and waited for the right opportunity to say what he wanted to say. I quess he doing what he feels he has to do but it doesn't change my mind at all I still think he is gay.

Wicked brought up an interesting point. The more he brings up these types of issues in a public interview the more he is putting the rumors out there on his own and the more everyone starts believing that the rumors have some truth to them. Not real smart to do if you think of it.

This whole thing has been a disaster and it will come back to bite Jake and his advisors in the ass. Mark my word.

    ReplyDelete
  20. There are moments that define an actors career and makes them a star. For Brad Pitt it was when he took his shirt off in Thelma and Louise. For Tom Cruise it was when he did the danced in his underwear. Right now Jake has a big problem his moment was when he lowered his jeans in that pup tent. Gonna be hard to shake. Lets see what happens. Seems like the work has begun though.

  21. "Sorry guys, but how old are these pics now? About two years, right.

The oldest one is exactly 2 years but there are newer ones. Put that with the TMZ report this April of Jake and Austin spending a day locked in a trailer together and I don't think it can all be dismissed merely on the grounds of "oh it was all two years ago".
Jake sounds like he is trying to dismiss it I agree but without adressing the rumors head-on.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I'm sorry but I see nothing wrong with Jake's interview. Despite the fact that he is public figure it has got to be a bit much to have so much of your personal life looked at under a miscroscope. How many actors have multiple blogs based on their personal lives (straight or gay leaning)? Guys, he doesn't owe us anything but a good performance in his movies. How would you like it if every little thing you do is then put on gossip blogs to be mocked? How would you like if every person you stand next to was made fun of or thought of as your lover? Sure he could just be direct but that has not been Jake's way. He has always been ironic and jokey. One of the things I love about him.

Tom and a few others, you seem so quick to judge but how do you know he will distance himself from his gay fanbase or freinds? And yeah he has always seemed to respect and appreciate BBM. But it has got to be frustrating 3 years later when people are still making the same lame jokes and not talking about your current work.

I don't blame Jake if he is more distant in interviews. Again, he has a right to privacy and he really only owes us good performances in his movies.

  24. Esquire

    Liv Taylor and Mischa Barton?

    ReplyDelete
  25. I don't think he would have said those things in that interview post-Rome. I think he said them because he thought Jeese was behind him. This whole thing still seems like a pr nightmare. He can be the next Matt Damon and Johnny Depp without all of this, how often do you see thier lives become fodder for the tabloids. For example, look at Matt Damon turning down the People's sexiest man award. He probably did this because he wants people to know this had nothing to do with him, that this is not the way he is going to market himself. I think if Jake had truly gone the private route we could all respect that. Instead he has gone the circus route. I don't respect that even when it comes to real couples, let alone bearding.

    ITA with your post Wicked.

  28. I like both covers - the one with the jutting jawline always says "masculine agression" to me, like a guy is gonna bring up his hands and say "c'mon, bring it on", or something like that. But his facial expression softens it to a teasing look. Just my vivid imagination again. The other one with the furrowed brow, raised eyebrow in faux incredulity look is amusing. ;) I haven't seen this other cover? Just Liv Tyler and Mischa Barton.

Sorry but his current work although not awful has not left us much to talk about. Just a fact. He has to live with that for another year and I quess the reinvention plan is very much underway. Jake has touched my life so much in the last couple of years and seeing him and listening to him today is just really tough.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I think there are people who are never going to be happy with what Jake does. He really is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. Sad really.

Have to give a thank you to Esquire for bringing it back to Jake's acting abilities. Great to see that they get what he was doing in Rendition.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Sorry Tom, but your remark about defininf moment for Jake was when he lowered his pants in the tent is rather offensive. If that is the case, and completely eclipses the fine performance he did in BBM aside lowering his pants, no wonder is going in overdrive to change it, no wonder no other actor would take up that part. Your comment is simply awful. And yes I would do anything to shed 'fans' like you who cannot see past the fact I lowered my pants for another man in a movie. Sad.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I like Matt Damon's refusal of the "Sexiest Man Alive" title. It give him more seriousness. But then again, he's in a position to be able to do that. Jake may be being advised to go along with these things. I don't think he's entirely comfortable with it, but who knows.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Sorry but his current work although not awful has not left us much to talk about

While that might be right, some people like you seem to be refusing to look past his pants lowering in the pup tent, and have absolutely don enothing other than putting his personal life under a huge micriscope and given him absolutely no break waiting for him to come out any time and getting all bitter when he did not. Got to be awfully hard to live your live like that, without being able to even watch a tennis game with your childhood friend without that being scrutinized to no end and the whole set of pics dissected to see if your alleged (and probable) real lover is hiding in disguise a few rows behind. Who would want to come out under such condition. Be honest

    ReplyDelete
  34. Then just scroll down this link to IHJ and you should see the article and cover Stephanie/Twilight posted.

  35. Sexiest man alive on People? No kidding, that has been negotiated with Matt PR all the way because that's what happens with People. Then, quite conveniently refused by Matt, yeah, to bolster the 'serious' image. What bunch of crap. Just ignoring would have been a much more serious way to approach it.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Forgot to add - even with Matt's refusal, he is still on the cover. I like Matt in an intellectual way - but to me Jake is one of the most beautiful and sexy men I have ever seen in HW, if not the most - he's the Sexiest Man Alive. I don't know if he wants this image or not. I'd hate to see him go for that only tho, and not also an aware and involved actor. :)

I saw that moment as a beautiful tender moment. The fact is that much of America did not. I bet Jake sees it as a wonderful also but his PR has convinced him otherwise.

I am very angry and hurt aweful and if Jake doesn't want me as a fan then I have to live with that. his antics have brought me much happiness over the last couple of years. I will miss those antics if they are now a thing of the past

  38. I'm old enough to remember a time when Johhny Depp was all over the tabloids for his relationship with Kate Moss. The stories were a lot more outrageous than anything Jeese is up to. Trust me. Sex, drugs, and rock and roll ;-)

I just think it's something that happens to a lot of younger movie stars (being over-exposed for their love lives). It usually settles down. People move on and forget minor scandals generally.

Might not for Jake because being closted complicates all that. It could all still explode in his face.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Jake - I always agree with everything destiny and bltb say, so I won't bother rehashing ... I do think, however, that Jake is coming in for it more because he did BBM, and in my quietest (saddest) moments about the current state of affairs, I sometimes wish he hadn't. If you *are* gay/bi and you *do* a role like that, you have to be able to walk the walk. And that's as strong as I ever want to get about how I feel about Jake.

New Austin interviews and caps? Back soon ...

    ReplyDelete
  40. I think Tom has a point aboiut BBM, after all people kept bringing it up in interviews for Rendition. On top of the rumours, I think he's had a harder time getting away from BBM because he was the bottom.

Scylla, the funny thing about Jake doing BBM is that I suspect at the time he took that role his manangers, etc. had no idea he was bi/gay. I 've often wonderered if they'd known at the time if maybe they wouldn't have encouraged him not to do it.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Anybody else think it's odd that Esquire put Jake on the cover for his performance in Rendition? I thought he was good, but his character did not have enough to do. I did not think it was a performance that was likely to be singled out. Maybe there is hope for Rendition during awards season after all?

    ReplyDelete
  42. It's all so silly, isn't it? I will always see Brokeback Mountain as one of the most beautiful films I have seen, ever. Jake should always be proud of his brave and beautiful performance, no matter the tasteless, phobic comments. What a loss it would have been to us if Jake hadn't done the role. I wonder if we will ever see him in a role of a person with an open sexuality ever again, I have wondered about the Jack Kerouac role, which would be wonderful.

In fairness to Jake, Matt Damon is a lot older than he is (10 yrs?) and has done a lot more films. Yes, I agree that the People thing for him is probably a crafted, PR move as well - but I can only speak as Joanne Q. Public about the ultimate impression some things leave you with. IMO, his refusal gives him more seriousness.

I was dismayed with what been happening with Jake as of late too; but, having had time to think about it a little, it appears to me that it is all PR and career related. He may have to go along for now, and if so, I hope someday he will say enough is enough and do what he really wants to. I don't think he's abandoning his unique fans, of which I'm happy to consider myself. In any case, I think he needs his fans' support, from all sides, more than ever.

    ReplyDelete
  43. destiny - very probably.

    hjulia - thank you * *

  44. Wicked, did you read the description from Esquire about why they praised Jake's performance? I think they have a great point. Jake's been very underrated, imo.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Yes, Fair Praise, I read it. I felt Jake's character was not fleshed out enough and I did not get to know him well enough to care. That feeling has much more to do with the way the character was written than how the character was acted. I would have liked Douglas Freeman to have been on screen more.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I agree Wicked about the Esquire article. I just don't think his role was big enough, although I do think he is underrated as an actor because he has a quieter style.

And yes, Matt Damon is older, but I don't recall him being gossip fodder when he was younger, unlike Depp, so that was a bad example to pick. And there is a difference between living your live and having it covered, and putting yourself out there for the purpose of being covered.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Hi all,

I've seen Rendition a few times now, I recently saw it with my SO. He said the same thing, he'd have liked to find out more about what Douglas'work, etc. Then, as I considered it, I started to think of it as just a few moments in time, before the blast, and at the time of the taking of Omar - then it appears to me like a snapshot in time, and that's what you see of each character, just that portion. I loved it; I definitely feel badly that more people couldn't have seen and appreciated it. Hopefully, they will when it comes out on DVD, which I plan to pick up as well. :)

    ReplyDelete
  48. I only was speaking about Matt Damon as an acting peer of Jake's, in terms of acting experience, not gossip. You're right, Destiny, I don't recall Matt being gossip fodder much. That also leads to being taken more seriously, IMO. However you slice it, this PR move may hurt more than help.

    ReplyDelete
  49. It's hard to compare the initial public image/sex appeal marketing of Matt Damon, Johnny Depp and Brad Pitt to Jake, though, because you have to remember that the internet ("information highway") along with camera cell phones (instant visual evidence) weren't part of the equation back then.

Marketing an up-and-coming actor used to be a controlled strategy of official press releases, appearances and deliberately planted innuendo to create the desired buzz. But it's a totally different ballgame now with the general public's ability to access, create and distribute information, false or not.

And whats weird is you'd think with all this technology The Truth (of anything) would be apparent, but it seems to get more muddled than ever. :(

Not that Im complaining about freedom of information. But it just seems like comparing apples to Apples (lol) when talking about the marketing of Damon, Pitt and Depp to what today's younger actors are experiencing.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Have not seen Rendition yet so can't comment on Jake's performance, but none of the publications that focus on movies have mentioned it as an awards contender for anything. Esquire is not really a film type mag. That said, after Brokeback's Oscar loss as best film, I am convinced the whole system is suspect and no longer watch the Oscars.

Jake did comment in an interview for Ent Weeekly recently - about a month ago. Article was about gay characters in film, TV. He said only wonderful things about Brokeback. That it pushed his career to a whole new level. I do think Jack Twist will be/is the equivalent of his Stanley Kowalski - but what's wrong with creating an indelible character. He made Jack real. So did Heath re Ennis. That's why everyone was so moved by the film. To this day, 2 years later, I am moved to tears at Jack's death and Ennis's pain as though I had known them as friends.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Jake did comment in an interview for Ent Weeekly recently - about a month ago.

"Brokeback could have done the same for gay film. It wasn't just a hit, but the first unabashed gay romance to cross over to mainstream audiences. It also obliterated an ancient Hollywood phobia that playing gay would kill an actor's career. Not only did stars Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal both score Oscar nominations, but Ledger is playing the Joker in next summer's Batman sequel, The Dark Knight. Gyllenhaal will be starring opposite Tobey Maguire in Brothers.

'It's been extraordinary,' Gyllenhaal says of life post-Brokeback. 'It has taken me to a different place in my career. Nothing but wonderful, positive things have come out of that experience.'"

  52. i have said it before and i don't mind saying it again. I will always love Jake for bringing Jack Twist to the big screen. Whatever he chooses to do with his off-screen life, will not affecct my sentiment for that.

i can understand if he's frustrated that people keep talking about his role in BBM, because he has a new film to promote and he probably wants to make some progress. But i don't think he ever regretted taking up that role or making out with a man on screen, that performance changed his life and career. It's stupid to say that BBM harmed his career, cos it didn't.

He since made two brilliant films (esp Zodiac) with disappointing box office. It's not the end of the world.

    ReplyDelete
  53. It's stupid to say that BBM harmed his career, cos it didn't

Absolutely, and Jake knows and embraces that. What he does not embrace and it is currently hurting his personal life is the morbose interest some people and gossip sites have taken to his personal life. For several reasons he does NOT wish people to interfere in any way. Being a public figure and being watched every move, he can only counter it by putting up a crafted facade, so the rumours are deflected. It is not working very well, but what else can he do. He is only lucky that Austin is not being followed 24x7

    ReplyDelete
  54. How is it hurting his personal life?

    ReplyDelete
  55. The fact remains that Jake and any other actor don't owe us an explanation for their personal life.

But where a lot of actors/actresses go wrong is that they use the media/paps to promote themselves but then want the media/paps to back off when they've had enough or are just trying to run an errand.

The paps are always going to be there in the background but once you invite them in, they become the proverbial last party guest who never leaves.

Despite lots of pictures of Jake running errands in the past, it wasn't until Rome that Jake invited them in.
Now he has to deal with that decision.

Reese spent most of her marriage on the A list. She was America's sweetheart and yet she managed to keep the majority of her marriage to Ryan private. She'd hit out at anyone to dared to say there was anything wrong with the marriage and protect her family like very few other celebs in her status were able to do.
Throughout the divorce, she stayed silent and classy about Ryan
Yet in three weeks, she's done a 360

The media/paps aren't going to waste their time on the celebs who won't let them get a look into their private lives. They are going to follow the ones who will.

Whether Jeese are real or not, they've made the decision to become those celebs who allow the media in.

The downside for them is they can't stop people having an opinion, and with the internet, that opinion gets taken all over the world.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Just watched FNL. Completely disagree that it was like watching John Monad teach English Lit. This is a different character entirely, and I liked what Austin did with it. Looking forward to seeing the new episode in two weeks.

where a lot of actors/actresses go wrong is that they use the media/paps to promote themselves but then want the media/paps to back off when they've had enough or are just trying to run an errand.

They want the attention only when they want it, and it doesn't work that way. You're right, AG, you can't turn it off. Once you invite them in, they really will never leave.

    ReplyDelete
  57. The downside for them is they can't stop people having an opinion, and with the internet, that opinion gets taken all over the world

Actually it is not a having an opinion, it is more like bitching and loving to play character assassination, just like you seem to like doing yourself.

  58. "Yet in three weeks, she's done a 360" (ag)

I think you meant a 180. It's okay, math isnt my strong point on the weekends either. :*

The 360 is yet to come: It'll be when she breaks up with Jake because the paps and the public wanting to know all about their personal life is too much of an intrusion and so she will have to sacrifice her relationship with him for the well-being of her children and she will ask everyone to respect her decision and privacy.

Hey as long as it gives Jake what he wants and needs in the long term, I'm all for it. ;)

This comment jumped out at me and I can't dispute it. I think when it comes to the knuckle-down, it's true of Jake. There is a part of him that's very business-like, even unsympathetic. I think it's there all the time but you don't see it very often. When it does come to the forefront, it's like observing another person. I think when it comes to his work - being on the set, negotiating and talking to directors, many of his interviews and promotion - it serves him well. But on a personal level, I think he's literally in a hundred different places. Inconsistent, as wicked noted, which isn't a bad thing, it's something I love about him. I don't think he suits containment, he's too demonstrative, too effusive. So to be suddenly following a course which isn't him as a person is bound to be erratic. I suppose that would be true of most people.

  60. I agree with previous post wholehaeartedly, The paps are there to document lives of stars and get paid. When they are givin this much access, you are telling them in so many words, you can have all you want. Just because your done with them, does'nt mean they are done with you. they will push the limits wether Jake or other stars like " for the moment" it or not. Be careful what you ask for Jake, you just might get it. Doubts? ask Britney or Brangelina. You are the news, and your personal life becomes news too. He put his business in the street, with the Rome pictures, Now, no matter what happens he must own it. . Personally I've seen all I need to see of Gag-me-with-a-Spoon, Im now more interested in Ted's latest concerning Jake's friends. If somebody has pictures to the contrary of what Jeese's PR team is putting out there,( somebody's anonymous collection), This little charade parade will combust, taking Jake, his career, and Reese the "good girl" Witherspoon with it. Maybe it's better than Austin is not involved, I'd hate to see his career damaged at this point behind Jake's stupid nonsensical Jeese business. Knock knock, Avon calling. Keep that job honey, you may need all the make-up to disguise your red-face, hmmm maybe a mud mask? buckle up folks, this ride may get bumpy in the very near future from my take on the matter. Thanks.

  62. bltb: Iagree, too. Although actors tend to be childlike, Jake is especially so, and its a gift and a curse. For both him and us.

cdoggray: Love your avon calling. :D

As for the rumor that Jake paid reese for the bearding, it could be that spending a million dollars is worth keeping one priceless Nichol.

  63. AG, I totally agree with you. IMO I don't think it's his PR only, I get the feeling he has pressure from his parents too. Specially after BBM lost out for Best Picture, and Zodiac and Rendition flopped.

  64. lilmamma'sboyJake, how pathetic. Guess WFT is closing down and here comes the idiots. I think I am going to vomit.
Nice how you think someone else's life is like a ride at the park. Yeah the 'luni' park in your particular case, cdoggray.

  66. I don't put much stock into what Ted has to say. Love Jake, love Austin together and apart. But seems to me Ted has as much agenda and coverups and fakery as any PR firm.

I also don't think we can know what Jake is really like. Who knows what he has to deal with. Same goes for Austin. I won't place blame on one over the other. I try to give both these two priceless guys.

  67. ag, there are millions of photos of Jake running errands out there, mostly because he kept his private life as private as possible, the few outings with other 'male' people we have seen of him ended up translating into pages of crass comments about who is the top or the bottom especially with Chris and Austin. With female all about bearding even when a much older PR person appeared involved. Jeez

I think there is a possiblity that Jake and Reese are putting up a parade to deflect attention from their 'real' life.

  68. ^^ Meant to say that I give both these pricless guys (Jake and Austin) the benefit of the doubt. Also, I hold even less stock in anything "Ent. Lawyer" (please what a joke. Like that guy is a real lawyer) has to say.

  69. BLTB- internal inconsistency is a very adaptable thing. I really envy people who can do this. It's only bad when overused.

  70. I recall an interview Jake gave where he said that he always puts on a public face, but if he meets someone and wants a relationship, he immediately shows them the real Jake. I think it was done back when he was with Kirsten. I've looked at 1000s of pictures of Jake. When he is with Austin, I feel like I am seeing Jake the man, not Jake the actor, public figure. Just think of that Borders smile and then compare it to Rome, Napa, SF etc.

  71. You guys should know by now that every time you mention that Borders smile I'm going to then comment about it for the 87th time, lol. That smile...damn. His whole face is involved with that smile; crow's feet threatening to take completely over. His head tilted, his body pulled back, slightly coy and definitely playful, his arms and hands relaxed and loose, making sure not to cover the front of the book with his fingers so that the person in his sights could see it clearly (I'll always wonder what the book was).

The smile, the head tilt, the posture, the playfulness and submission, not to mention the thoughtful gesture of seeing a book someone special might appreciate, will always have me believing their was a Jake and Austin in love. I think there still is and I hope there will be a long time from now.

  72. I'm not dead. I just slept like one.

Up for 2 days and then crashing for 12 straight, I am just catching up on yesterday.

The Pics-yes I know they are 2 years old. But the one to the left was the first public off set picture of them at Cassanova, the other at the track the spring after the Lakers. These were the first three sets of public off-set pictures we had seen of them together.

ITA with Wicked first post. And M's comment about Jake putting on a public face. Some people feel they must do it. While I Jake does do this he sometimes betrays himself. It tries but can't always keep it. Whether it be a look or a comment sometimes he consciously or unconsciously gives hints to what's really going on with him.

BLTB - that smile kills me too. It comes from every part of him. And thanks Stubborn for the photo caps of Jake's Austin smiles. I love the smile he gets - because you know that at that moment he is truly happy and there is nothing else in his life or career that matters. All the issues and problems are gone in that moment.
