.....and Action

Not the image you think of when you think of New Mexico. But that's the point. New Mexico is a state of contrasts. From the mountains of North Central New Mexico, to the desert of Whitesands, New Mexico has everything but ocean front. From the famed or infamous, depending to who you talk to, Area 51 near Roswell, or the Pueblos still inhabited for over a 1,000 years, or the artist communities of Taos, to the oldest capital in the county - Santa Fe will celebrate 400 years in 2010, New Mexico has a little bit of something for everyone. New Mexico lives up to its nickname
“The Land of Enchantment” thanks to its wondrous natural beauty and a lively culture built by waves of Native American, Latin and European inhabitants.

And Hollywood has noticed as well. Film making has been happening in New Mexico for over 100 years. With gorgeous natural beauty, great locations, a non-working prison set and Garson Studios, with two soundstages, you can see why Brothers chose to New Mexico for production. But many other movies you know have to: Easy Rider, Twins, The Milagro Beanfield War, Billy Jack, Independence Day, Last Man Standing, Last Stand at Saber River, Wild Wild West, All The Pretty Horses, The Lazarus Man, Earth 2, The Cowboy Way, Natural Born Killers, Wyatt Earp, White Sands, City Slickers, The Missing, North Country, Into the West, Comanche Moon, No Country for Old Men, Wild Hogs, 3:10 to Yuma, even Oklahoma! has parts filmed here. It looks like Brothers has some great company.

Today starts the first day of shooting. Here's to a great film experience and good times with friends like Natalie and Tobey for Jake.

  2. This is related to the ONTD post in the previous thread...

Rather significant, at least I think so, that out of five + pages of comments on that list (Which is hilarious and spot on!) there are only two or three that mention either Jake or Reese, most are spreading the James McAvoy love on thickly.

Seems the hot Reeke romance is not the big draw that PR thought they would be. And what press Reese is getting, not to mention Jake, is negative. Can't be what she signed up for.

  3. Coincidentally, Austin starts filming 'The informers' today too.

According to the Uruguayan newspaper, today starts the last stage of filming in ‘Punta del Este’. It says that Austin will film his scenes this week with Jon Foster, Lou Taylor Pucci and Chris Isaak. The report focuses on Chris Isaak and it says he arrived last Sunday and sang for the crew of the film Sunday night. The article doesn’t say when Austin or the other two actors arrived.

  4. ^^Wow, how exciting for both Jake and Austin. What a beautiful location; I'm really looking forward to Brothers a lot. :)

Also, I never did get to weigh in on Daff's mermaid videos. I haven't seen her latest, but I loved her first one. It had a "two ships passing in the night" feel" (sorry, I tend to free associate a lot!). It's the very simplicity of it that makes it so good. Sometimes, with too much razzle-dazzle technical expertise, what you are trying to say can get lost. Some of us here have known Daff on the blogs for quite some time and know what a creative person she is. Her blog is great. And I liked both versions of Can't Find My Way Home, but tend to lean toward the original.

Thanks, Frenchy, for your thoughts on No Country for Old Men, too. :)

  5. Flying by - thanks for information about Jake and Austin and their respective whereabouts *

And for all the information about No
Country for Old Men, which I am really looking forward to.

I will have to catch up with Daff's vids on my return home.

  6. ST, thanks so much for all of your updates on the filming of The Informers. Really liked the movie poster too.

What a beautiful picture of New Mexico. When I think of NM, I think of desert. Shows you what I know.

  7. I like the thought of Chris Isaak singing Wicked Games to Austin :)

  8. Oh yeah, that's what I thought too!;)

  9. Thanks for the "Informers" updates,
ST. I can't stop thinking about blond Austin. At one point Informers was going to be filming in both Uruguay and Buenos Aires. I wonder if Buenos Aires is still on the filming schedule.

And thanks for the info about New Mexico. We're getting some great geography and culture lessons from the J&A filming locations.

  10. blue velvet: about 'informers', according to the initial report they are going to be in Punta del Este, Uruguay until December 6 and after that they will film for two days in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

  11. Thanks, ST. We know that Austin likes to travel so this must be a great shoot for him.

  12. How do I see the Mermaid videos you all are talking about?

  13. If Austin had his JFC haircut he and Chris Isaak could have done who's hair is higher. If he had his natural brown, they could have done the separated at birth thing.
    : )

  14. ^^Hee! Yeah, they both have that rockabilly thang goin' on. I was remiss and did not thank ST for all of the info on The Informers filming and the interesting poster! Thanks, ST!

  15. More about Informers:

Amber Heard and Chris Issack Are Also ‘Informers’

If films could be a success based on the cast alone, I would say that The Informers was on its way to wonderful cinema. News about the project first came in May, and since then, the cast has slowly been coming together in a great, eclectic sort of way. This isn’t some sort of Ocean’s wonder-project of hunks, but rather a collection of randomness that looks pretty darned tasty — the first batch had Billy Bob Thornton, Kim Basinger, Brandon Routh, Ashley Olsen, Jon Foster, Austin Nichols, and Lou Taylor Pucci, and then along came Winona Ryder and Mickey Rourke. Now The Hollywood Reporter has Amber Heard and Chris Isaak have joined the cast.

Heard, who is the object of affection in the upcoming horror film All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, is said to be playing “a sexually promiscuous woman caught up in the decadence of the 1980s.” This is pretty much what Ashley Olsen’s character description was, so I wonder if she’s become the Full House alum’s replacement, or perhaps a fellow sexual cohort. As for Isaak, whose last film was John Waters’ A Dirty Shame, the crooner will play “a sex-and-alcohol-obsessed father who takes his young son to Hawaii.” The film is currently shooting in Los Angeles, and then it will journey to Uruguay and Buenos Aires to finish up.

  16. Hey, thanks for all the comments on my little mermaid films - never expected that! The first one is part of a longer short film called The Wonderful Thing that just screened at the Portland Lesbian & Gay Film Festival. I am currently in the last few days of post-production on my "proper" feature film with "proper" live-action, "proper" animation etc by a professional animator, "proper" mise-en-scene, "proper" storyline etc. These little films are what I do to release stress where I don't have any rules, and don't have to answer to anybody, and can do whatever the fuck I want. Basically, it's me playing in a punk way. Ya gotta play. I wrote an entire erotic novel while I was supposed to be finishing my MA thesis. Anyway, the first mermaid film has been removed, but it appears in the larger film The Wonderful Thing, now uploaded to Youtube. The Liberty film is also connected to the first, but I haven't worked out how yet in terms of storyline.

  18. New Mexico really is a beautiful place, I lived in a tiny town in the southern part of the state when I was a kid, and I've been to the northern part in more recent years. However I didn't know so many movies had been shot there.

Thanks ST and Daffodil for the updates. Maybe there is still hope we'll get some pictures of blond Austin in Uruguay.

  20. (I am pro-Jake, a bi/gay, A-List male actor with more b**** than most of his peers, and I suspect most of his fans. He isn't the first actor to beard, and he won't be the last. And he didn't make the rules in HW. He just has to live with them, unlike most of his fans.

When and if he comes out of the closet, I will be the first person to applaud, but as someone who has dealt with the brutal realities of the closet myself, I'm not going to blame the victim. And Jake is the victim.

He is not Hitler, Roy Cohn, Hoover, Jim West, Mark Foley or Rev. Haggard. And he's more pro-gay, and taken more flack for being NCS/bi/gay than many famous gay people, including Andrew Sullivan, Jody Foster, Pete Williams, Cynthia Nixon and Anderson Cooper.

Some of us remember Jake before Nichols and Witherspoon entered the picture, before we started playing the game of defining Jake by who he spends time with.

Jake is more than the person he vacations with, is paired with for PR purposes or is photographed with.)

    THANK YOU, I Totally Agree.
Sorry for the carry over post from the last thread. I could not post at work and I so agree with posters opinion.

Doesn't matter. Alone or not alone, Jake is still a big ole bore. And not a very good actor. Ledger is ten times better.

  24. 4:10 pretty sad for you to post on a site dedicated to someone you so don't like, what's up with you? Couldn't find any Heath Ledger website out there? There should be plenty!

  25. Hey 4:10 -- gotta name for your post?

    ReplyDelete
  26. anon 4:10 he's a bore to you because?

And, how about a name and your sexuality.

And, will Jake become more appealing to you if he came out as bi or gay??

I wanted him to come out as bi/gay, but he has not and may not. I still think of him the same as I did before the TT Blind Items.

    ReplyDelete
  27. We can disagree on things, but we still show respect to other people here.

I might not agree with everything that is said, but I respect the right that people have to post it. What i respect more is people who believe enough in what they are saying to put their name to it.

And to some that our visiting. Hey maybe this is your kind of blog or maybe it isn't. If you don't agree with the mission statement we have here then maybe you should find a blog that you do believe in. And that's cool, there are plenty of places to meet everyones opinions on things.

  28. I would be really interesting to see or know how many poster here or on WFT are gay, bi or straight. I have a strong feeling the majority is straight. I could be wrong though.

Long-Time Lurker, with all due respect, I fail to see how this is relevant?

I made a decision not to discuss my sexuality with others out of solidarity with my gay, lesbian and bi friends and associates. I don't see how that information is relevant to people I don't know and who don't know me, and if it is, who needs 'em.

My feelings about Jake haven't changed as a result of recent events; I still admire and think the world of him. The only reason this story caught my eye at all is because I felt that a possibly gay or bi actor in HW would need the support of his fans. I've always been a supporter of gay/lesbian rights, and am becoming enlightened about oppressive HW. I'm sure he couldn't care less what I think about who he chooses as a lover. It's whatever makes him happy. If it's Reese, so be it, if it's Austin, that's beautiful too. As long as he is free to be who he is, that's all. :)

sorry special k, but at this point I totally fail to see your point! ANY troll can actually show up, post a comment giving himself as a name the first thing that comes to his mind , and never use that name again. And that will not stop him/her from posting again and again using the same tactic. We are all anon in the blog world, except of course for a few exceptions (i.e those of you who met in person), names are only useful to correlate posts, but if one changes them with every post then that's useless.

Ted mentions the three Amigos of last summer (Jakey, Lance and Matt) when talking about Lance and his new "romance" with Ashley Olsen.

    ReplyDelete
  41. The poster said he didn't know that much about the actors but that they were all nice to him. It was also mentioned elsewhere on the board that the locations in Uruguay were substituting for Malibu and Hawaii. I think we knew about Hawaii already.

    ReplyDelete
  42. (Long-Time Lurker- is your theory that most here are straight and are asking for Jake to come out because they haven't experienced what it's like?)

    Wicked, that's part of it.

And how can some ask a person that they don't know but ONLY suspect to come out (and get mad when it does not happen) when they don't really know the person and what they are going through. None of us here actually know if Jake is bi or gay. I have a strong feeling that he is bisexual and had a relationship a man, that's it, A strong feeling.

Also it is great to support gay rights and gay/bi people but if one has NOT experienced being gay or bi and the persns's reason for the closet (whatever it is) you should NOT get so emotionally involved as to ridicule, name call, or judge.

I can sympathize with a blind person and want help for him, but I don't know what it feels like to be blind. I can only imagine being blind, but quickly return to a person who can see!

How can posters expect Jake to be open about his sexuality towards him being NCS/BI/GAY to HW and the WORLD when they CAN'T or WILL NOT even post their OWN sexuality!!
Seem HW is not the only one with double standards. With all this said, I DO BELIEVE that a person should be themselves and who they were born to be. I do NOT promote the closet at all. I try to respect a person's descision until they are ready.

    ReplyDelete
  43. ^^Long-Time Lurker, I sincerely hope that you would not try to use this question as a divisive tactic. No matter what anyone's sexuality, the important thing is to understand each other. The reason I choose not to say is not for the reason you think.

Speaking for myself, I don't expect anything from Jake, and never did. If he does come out, he does - if he doesn't he doesn't. It's all about, for me, IF he does, then I think his fans would find that amazing, beautiful and want to support him and his partner, whoever it may be.

Just because I am not blind, doesn't mean I can't respect, support and try to promote understanding of those who are. It's the road to acceptance.

And along the way, I met some wonderful people, both online and offline, who have come out, are in the process, or are not gay, lesbian or bi. Some of the people I have met are some of the most creative, artistic, and have the best senses of humor ever, and I feel privileged to know them. This is why I still post here. I get a lot of inspiration from these people. I no longer believe in labelling people, and I also do not think a person's sexuality is always a static thing. So who's to say? :)

    ReplyDelete
  44. (Long-Time Lurker, I sincerely hope that you would not try to use this question as a divisive tactic.)

No, not at all. Just speaking my mind about what I've witnessed within the last month or two.

(I no longer believe in labelling people, and I also do not think a person's sexuality is always a static thing. So who's to say? :))

That's great, and Thanks. I do think your take on sexuality is in a minority in Jake's fanbase. Again Thanks

  47. Well, I am a straight woman, married many years. But having been a SF Bay area resident, have many male friends who are gay. A few lesbian women friends too, but somehow not as close to them. My very best and closest friend of 30+years is a gay man. I take my lead from them re their personal lives. If they are out, then I am open about them being so with others. If they are out in close circles, but discrete in larger groups or with unknown people, then I stay mum.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I'm a straight woman and having worked in theater, I have worked with A LOT of gay people, many of whom have been friends of mine. I also had a gay boyfriend many years ago when I was in my 20s so I can understand Reese's motivation (I too was coming off a bad breakup with someone I loved) but then who knows with her.

Jake could very well be straight and Ted might have gotten bad info all this time. I don't know. Shrugs.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Straight mother of a gay child.

Am I disqualified then, because of my orientation, as one who can empathize with the troubles and trials the GLBT face in our society today?

    ReplyDelete
  50. All I know is that the gay community itself is highly divided on the closet issue. Some say that nobody should be dragged out kicking and screaming. Others claim that this very attitude is on par with supporting the status quo.

As a straight woman (I've already indicated my orientation over at WFT when relevant to the discussions), I fail to see why I should stay mum about the current situation. What irks me is not that Jake is still closeted (as a potential HW leading man he certainly has good reasons to have cold feet) but rather what I consider active bearding. Maybe Reese is leaning on him because she needs a good friend but what these two are selling to the public is the full traditional het romance, and oh, quelle surprise! (as Ted himself would say) right after a bona fide outing.

Of course whoever believes Jake's bi or straight might find my posts on the subject unfounded, delusional, farfetched, rude, etc. etc. etc.

I think it's important to keep in mind that we're not just talking about another victim of the closet here. We're also talking about HW's shenanigans, homophobia and about those who are lured by fame, power and money.

  52. Ted refers to Lance's "pearly toothies" tonight. While Ted may have gotten some of the details wrong, I don't think he is wrong about Jake, there are just too many other things that point the same way.

I don't think people need to label themselves, although I am always interested to hear someone's story. And labels don't always tell the whole story, someone can be straight and very progressive and emphathetic or they can be gay and unfeeling, and any variation inbetween. I think most regular posters know, but for those who may be new I am a bisexual woman with a gf of many (happy) years.

Somewhat OT, Gatecrasher has a blind item that could only be Justin Timberlake: Which singing heartthrob currently tied to an actress is really single and living out his sex fetish dreams with different girls all over the country?

    ReplyDelete
  53. And some of us are highly divided ourselves frenchy. Sometimes I feel sympathetic to Jake's situation, but mostly I feel anger. While I can understand not coming out, I cannot understand actively bearding, particularly someone in Jake's position. Then again, there are some people who I think should come out at this point, like Jodie and Andersen because I think they have the status and power to weather any fallout. I don't think that is the case with Jake.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I agree with you about Jodie. Honestly, even my father knows she's gay and has a longtime partner. It's not a big deal and I seriously doubt it would horrify middle America or deter them from going to her movies. I think Hollywood is way behind Middle America when it comes to being gay--just like that EW article said.

  56. I'm about 70% straight, 30% gay, but it changes all the time. Bisexual, yes, but I think of it as being more into the person and the moment and the feelings.

I live in a different world: I grew up with gay neighbors and my parents have gay friends (male and female couples) that they've known for 30 years. My mom has asked me a few times if I'm totally gay and even tho I've said no she's still not convinced. I also have an out gay cousin. Btw, my parents thought it was terrible when Melissa Etheridge's girlfriend (Julie?) left her (and their child) for another woman.

So I have no problem being myself, I'm not afraid if anyone knows. BUT I'm very fortunate to be in environments (family, social and business) that allows differences. Not everybody has that.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Seriously, sometimes I wish I could be 100% gay. It seems like it would be easier than trying to figure out men. They're wonderful, but a completely different species.

  58. Smelly people on the NYC subway? This sterile bastion of cleaniness? probably a dirty diaper. Stinky Heath or not, I'd still hit it!

  59. Variety says Jake will play Joe Namath

Most here know I'm an out lesbian, married to a female partner. We wear the same rings and have the same last name, so people notice and we have to answer questions all the time. "Is she your sister?" "No, my partner."

I agree with Destiny that it's the bearding I can't stand. And I really do think that's what he's doing. Bearding is homophobic.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Jake as Broadway Joe.

I saw a interview with Joe Namath this week, and said to my sister in law, do you think Jake Gyllenhaal could play him? She shot back, he has the eyes, the dimples, and the hairy chest, but I don't know about his legs -- for the famous pantyhose ad. Nothing about being convincing quarterback. I had to laugh.

Jumping into the conversation from earlier. I am a straight woman with many friends who are gay lesbian and bisexual. And I have been the friend many have first come to share that they were gay. Which I consider an honor that friends could come and share that with me with confidence of our friendship. Our friendship did not change because of it, in fact it made it stronger because we reach a place that we were more open rather than hiding things.

I still have friends that are not ready to come out, some that will never and you know I will be their for them when they are ready it is up for them to find there way. But I try to show them that they are other friends who have gained so much by coming out.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I`m a straight married woman with three kids. I do respect people for not being out. It`s the bearding-thing that`s a problem for me too. Before all this things with Reese started, it seemed to me Jake was trying to live his life as open as he could in Hollywood without being officially out.
I still like Jake very much as an actor and i will always love him for portraying Jack Twist.
Maybe some day, he will come out. There is always hope.
