You Better Work it

"... stylish young urbanites, in a rare display of solidarity, have embraced the vest as a flourish that lends nearly any outfit a bit of cool. There are suit vests, in bankerly worsteds and pinstripes, and “odd vests,” in solid colors, checks and suede."

"Omar Nasir, 29, a singer and dancer, was prompted to give the vest a whirl after watching “The Thomas Crown Affair,” ...'To me, it’s kind of a throwback to an old Hollywood glamour,' he said."

"Body-conscious clothing has reached a breaking point of sorts,...But the inherently close-fitting vest allows you to casually show off the size of your drop, the measurement computed by subtracting your waist size from your chest size, while appearing to be above such vain concerns."

The Texan just may be ahead of the game. Austin has been rocking the vest for the past 2 years.
New York Times Style, Ditching the Suit, the Vest Struts Its Stuff(need to register)

Could Austin be so far out (of fashion, that is) that he's in? And Jake just playing catch up? Will scarves, antique watches, and suspenders/braces show up now that Austin has blazed the trail? Watch out -- he might show up wearing a bolo tie, hand crafted in New Mexico, natch, and it will be showing up on the runways two years from now.

  1. Sorry for so many pictures : )

Sometimes it just takes more than a couple to wash the Jeese away.

  2. Oh...my. Austin. *sigh*

Thank you, Special, for making my day this early.

Going back to stare at the post some more.

Oh, and here, sweetie, here are some *hugs* for strength and perservence today. *HUGS*

  3. "DONNIE TWO BEARDS - Jake gets another beard

A marriage made in heaven. That's what they're cooing in Hollywood about the news that Jake Gyllenhaal (previously thought to be a confirmed bachelor) has decided to give up the wild party nights and settle down at last. The major surprise is that he's chosen a woman to do this with, and none other that epic-chinned Oscar winner Reese Witherspoon, a woman with a name almost as attractive as her lower face.

So congratulations to the golden couple, who will surely inherit Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman's mantle as 'most unlikely couple to get together in Hollywood'. The pair have been courting for quite a while now, and Jake originally proposed in Rome when they visited the city last October. A source (un-named, naturally) said,

"When Jake proposed in Rome, he knew Reese needed time, and didn't really expect her to say 'yes' right away. He just wanted her to know that he was serious about their relationship - serious enough to make her his wife."

God, that's beautiful! Reese originally turned the offer down, but after talking to her closest friends (and perhaps discussing a pre-nup agreement with her lawyers) has now graciously agreed to be his beard. Sorry, wife.

Ladies and gentlemen, place your bets now. 3 to 1 the marriage is over in three years. 2 to 1 Jake embraces Scientology before the decade is out."

  4. Why does Austin vest up? No sleeves.

If you think finding shirts is hard from the those tres long (at least 37") arms try finding suit that fits in the sleeve but doesn't swallow up that lean waist. And course a good vest shows off what a lean waist indeed.

  5. Reeke to star in a new movie together?

"Jake Gyllenhaal Reese Witherspoon “Valentine’s Day” Movie

Supposedly engaged couple Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon haven’t learned much from their flopping box office disaster Rendition. The couple is in negotiations to co-star in Valentine’s Day, a film about a couple who breaks up only to make up just before the most romantic day of the year."

  8. Why don't they just cut them off him now and hand them over to Reese. That must be in the contract somewhere.

  9. So who will pay to see Jake and Reese re-create their amazing real-life sexual chemistry on screen?

Bad career move, Jake. Bad move. Some lame-ass rom-com?

Whether she's a real gf or a beard this is a terrible idea. I do not want to see any real-life couples on-screen. I prefer a little thing called acting.

I could handle the idea that Jake was bearding from loneliness/fear/confusion, but in order to star in a mainstream film like this? Toothy's gonna lose a fan soon.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Come on now Evelyn have you been watching "Pillow Talk" and "Lover Come Back" again?

It might have work for Rock Hudson and Doris Day back in the late 50's and early 60's, with the unknowing audiences, but it's been almost FIFTY yes FIFTY years since Pillow Talk came out. The world has changed, the audience has change, but I guess the movie industry hasn't.

    ReplyDelete
  11. An exception to my no real-life couples on screen: Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? Just watch Burton and Taylor rip each other to shreds mentally and verbally. That's chemistry.

    ReplyDelete
  12. They could release it on Valentines Day 2009. Jake and Reese could give the world their top romantic tips. Or get mrried just before the premiere. It'll be just dreamy.

    ReplyDelete
  13. LOL, dreamy. Seriously though, is it a joke? What pinky said.

I'm just talking as a fan here, not as a tb.

  14. Have you ever seen Maggie pimp her relationship with Peter this way? No.

  15. London, let's hope it never comes to anything.

  16. Thanks for the collage, Spesh*

I'll try not to think about it, max :D

  17. Re-read yesterday's thread. This was predicted by some posters.

  18. Back to Austin for a moment. He does have the long lean look for runway, if he's 6' 2" could do fashion but if he really is 6' 4" (which I think is the case) he is a touch too tall.

Clothing size is standard 40Regular - 42long (US Sizes) -- He's a 40Long, but those arms are longer than a long.

It's ironic that - Matt McConaughey rolls sleeves up to make his arms look longer where Austin has to roll them up because his are too long. Is there a men's store in Austin (TX) that can help these two? : )

    ReplyDelete
  19. SK: Doris Day amd Rock Hudson were never pimped as a real life couple, Doris was married during the time they made those movies together. Her husband at that time was also her agent and they were married from 1951-1968( he died and left her bankrupt)

They were pimped as an on screen couple the press would never suggest anything else with sqeeky clean Day, they were very popular like Loy and Powell of the Thin Man, another couple that were NOT a couple off screen but sizzeled on.

Some people are too lazy to do a little checking.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Oh hush, d - I understand popcrunch are probably only taking the mickey out of the way Jeese has been publicised. We all care more that J might have been attached to something so lame-sounding!

    6' 3" wasn't it, Spesh? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  21. Thanks for setting us all "STRAIGHT" D.

Lazy? I'm amazed how Special and Wicked keep coming up with new stuff when all they get is more crap from HW.

    ReplyDelete
  22. But the inherently close-fitting vest allows you to casually show off the size of your drop . . .

Wow. Hawt. I have always loved a man with his own unique style. I hope we'll see him with a hand-crafted silver-and-turquoise bolo tie from New Mexico.

As for RuPaul, sashay! Love this song. Thanks for another great post, guys! :*

    For Your Consideration:

What If They Released A Movie and Nobody Came?

This is being floated just to torment us and what they think is a final coup de grace to finish us off, don't buy it guys! Hang tough! However, this will be the coup de grace for me. :)

  24. What a gorgeous post! Thanks, Special! If I didn't know who Austin was I could easily mistake him for a model.

    Word BV! :)

Please, please, please, let these Reeke romcom rumors be a joke. :(

    ReplyDelete
  25. I love Friday's because I can never get enough of Austin. I love his style. But then I had to go and actually read the posts....a romcom? That worked real well for McBongo didn't it. He went from getting good notice for some of his earlier roles to doing mostly romcoms after making some bad film choices. I'll tell you now if this is true, that is one movie I won't be going to see.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I have to come out of the closet and say I like romantic comedies. You can flagellate me if you want. However, I haven't liked seeing any real or alleged couples acting together onscreen. For me, it just doesn't work. Although, I will grant the exception for Taylor and Burton. I wouldn't mind seeing Jake do a romcom. In fact, I'd probably enjoy it.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I just wanted to add that I do like the occassional romcom, I just don't think of the actors in them as generally being in the same league as Jake. Not to mention so many of them are bad and/or flop.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I have to come out of the closet and say I like romantic comedies.

Lol! I was wondering when and how you would come clean with it Wicked. :D :D

    ReplyDelete
  29. ^^I know, I was thinking that too. I loved Matty McC, but when he went that romcom route, I just didn't find those movies appealing. The last one I saw of his was A Time To Kill, and he was great in that.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I like them occasionally too; there's a cute sounding one with Eva Longoria, where she gets crushed by a giant ice sculpture on her wedding day, and comes back to haunt the living hell out of her fiancee when he gets involved with someone else! That one may have possibilities. ;)

    I like a romantic comedy that's a bit unique.

    ReplyDelete
  31. ^^sorry, fiance. :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. I own both Pillow Talk and Lover Come Back, and even it's homage Down with Love. (Which Renee and Ewan did perfectly) I own the Thin Man series, and I love Loy and Powell. And and all time personal fav -- Desk Set (Hepburn and Tracy) - which Maggie wants to remake with Peter.

I do like Romantic Comedies. Does that me I want to see Reese and Jake in one? NO! Why?

1)Well, I if don't buy in real life I'm definitely not buying it on screen.

2)Reese will always have to be the bigger star, there is no way she would ever let herself have an equal to or less than role than Jake.

3)For romantic comedy to work, you have to like who's in it. Granted I like half the duo, but the other half not so much.

4)It's time to see a romantic comedy that's modern for today. Let Jake and Austin do it instead.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Ok, I will honestly try to find some romantic comedies that I actually like. ;) Does "Groundhog Day" qualifies? I loved that one!

    ReplyDelete
  34. qualifies -> qualify. Sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Most movies featuring real couples have not worked historically so I cant see a studio going for this, especially with reeses big price tag. I am sure the studio that just dumped her was happy to have an excuse to get out while they could. Also, they have zero chemistry in photos so will have even less on film. You need chemistry to make a movie like that work.

Love the Austin pics. He is getting more handsome as he ages, while Jake is losing his sexiness. I hope we hear about some more movies or TV for Austin soon. Preferably TV so we can see him more often. I do think his height works against him getting roles. Not too many women or other actors tall enough, so it makes for awkward shots.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Love the Austin pics. He is getting more handsome as he ages, while Jake is losing his sexiness.

Tut, tut, tut. M, what kind of language is that, lol! I actually think Jake looks better and better with time. :)

Thanks for the tip Spesh: another romcom I like: The Wedding Banquet!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I don't mind admitting that I like romantic comedies. Some of them are actually pretty good. But I agree that a real life couple or rumored real life couple usually kills any chemistry. Maybe Jake thinks he can do romantic comedies like Tom Hanks did and then go on to be a much-loved and admired oscar-winning actor like Tom.

On a happier note, working together on a film is often the beginning of the end for a real life couple's relationship.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Oh I'd love to see a (good)romantic comedy with a same sex couple. I like some of the classics too, Spesh.

Taylor and Burton were such a passionate couple, that kind of thing come along only once in a millenium, and J&R ain't it. J&A? Could be. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  39. if Reeke star in that garry marshall romcom that would totally smells like "Gigli"...

JAKE - please DON'T GO THERE!!! I am begging you. You can go marry whoever blond babe you want, but please don't pick up a lame romcom.

Garry marshall, the guy who made Runaway bride and Princess Diary? oh god...

    ReplyDelete
  40. I can see I have a lot of flagellating to do :D

OK I've thought about it and I quite liked Music and Lyrics. Is that enough romcom for one life? Please?

I have been told this rumour is just a joke so that's what I'll go with for now :)

I wouldn't even like J&A in a romcom though I'd love it if they were BOTH in the moon project :p

    ReplyDelete
  41. I have been told this rumour is just a joke so that's what I'll go with for now :)

Thank you, thank you, thank you oh you kind bearer of good news!

    ReplyDelete
  42. If this Valentines movie thing is for real then that would totally explain Reeke (i love that BTW..cause this mess sure Reeks). If this is the case then I have to say he has lost one more fan. I would not be able to recover from the manipulation. Even from beautiful blue eyes himeself.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Forget big budget some small independent project that both J & A could be in would be great.

    ReplyDelete
  44. This stuff you hear is getting more and more ridiculous each day. I loved it when Jake was a serious up and coming actor. He sure has lost his shine. I am hoping Brothers is a very good movie and Jake gets great reviews. Maybe his life can become acting on the screen again so he doesnt have to act like a fool in real life.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Oh Music and Lyrics, that one appealed to me but I never got around to seeing it. I loved most of Hugh Grant's romantic comedies. And Pretty Woman too. I guess I do like them, but just not ones that are too formula, or I guess I have to find the premise they are based on appealing. :)

I did get October Sky and am looking forward to watch it this weekend. :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. Great collage Special. Yes Austin is sure a looker. The one at the bootom with the short hair is amazingly hot. He def has the looks of a model.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I confess! I loved Pretty Woman and Sleepless in Seattle.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Spesh, you're right, I was temporarily swayed by the thought of Austin in silver.

NETB, I can guarantee you'd enjoy Music and Lyrics.

  50. See, nobody stays in the closet for long over here. :D

It would be hypocritical of me to try, now wouldn't it?

I would not like to see J&A in a romcom. I just don't like seeing real or alleged couples playing couples onscreen. Now a drama, like the Moon project, sure.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I just don't like seeing real or alleged couples playing couples onscreen

    i agree... it's totally ick.

yeah, please let it be a joke.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I really had forgotten what a great song this is. I wonder what RuPaul is up to now.

    ReplyDelete
  53. The looks of a hot model?? HA!!! I'm the hot model!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Ok, after reading all of the posts and thinking about it I guess there are more romcoms I like than I thought, I even like Failure to Launch, despite my McBongo comment. And Desk Set, I can't tell you how many times I've seen that, it's one of my gf's all-time favorites. I still need to see Music and Lyrics, I do love Drew B. romcoms. But romcoms need a decent script and chemistry. Even though Reeke is not real, there is NO CHEMISTRY(sorry for yelling).

    ReplyDelete
  55. I do love Drew B. romcoms.

I love Drew B. ANYTHING! My car is named after her. :)

  56. I just read with great sadness that figure skating champ Christopher Bowman was found dead. He was one of my favorites.

I read that in her book Inside Edge, author Christine Brennan said that US Figure Skating knew about Bowman's drug problems, but did nothing to help him. She alleges in the book that they allowed him to do whatever he wanted because he was one of the few straight male figure skaters, and they didn't want to lose him!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Here's an article dealing with the figure skating side of sports. A homophobic community from what I read of it: Christopher Bowman dies of drug overdose suspectedAssociated Press
Updated: January 11, 2008, 10:05 AM EST 63 comments RSS digg blog email print LOS ANGELES (AP) - U.S figure skating champion Christopher Bowman pleased fans and fellow skaters with his flair on the ice. But he was also known for his off-the-ice struggles with drugs and alcohol and other personal problems.

    Christopher Bowman (1967-2008)

Christopher Bowman, a former U.S. figure skating champion, was found dead Thursday at 40. Follow his career in photos.

Now the 40-year-old former skating champ known as "Bowman the Showman" has been found dead at a budget hotel in the San Fernando Valley, and authorities say a drug overdose could be to blame.

Bowman was pronounced dead Thursday at 12:06 p.m., said Coroner's Lt. Joe Bale, who confirmed the death was being investigated as a possible drug overdose, but wasn't immediately able to provide more details. An autopsy was planned for this weekend, he said.

Bowman's body was found by a friend Thursday morning at a Budget Inn in the North Hills area, police Sgt. Francisca Wheeling said.

A desk clerk who answered the phone at the hotel late Thursday declined comment.

"He just passed away in his sleep," Bowman's mother, Joyce, told the Detroit Free Press. "His friend told me that he was fine. He just went to bed and didn't wake up."

The friend who found Bowman told police the former skating champion might have been drinking the night before his death, Wheeling said.

Bowman, a former child actor, was one of figure skating's bigger personalities in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Immensely talented, with a gift for performance that few others could match, he won the U.S. men's figure skating titles in 1989 and 1992, and was runner-up in 1987 and 1991.

He also won a silver medal at the 1989 world championships, and a bronze the next year. He skated in the 1988 and 1992 Winter Olympics, finishing seventh in 1988 and fourth in 1992.

Recently, Bowman had returned to acting. He had a role as an assistant coach in the upcoming Brian De Palma-directed movie "Down and Distance" starring Gary Busey.

Bowman had a daughter with his former wife, Annette Bowman, according to the Free Press.

  58. Thanks Special for the absolutely wonderful Austin montage, that man is just gorgeous. He looks particularly good in the Men's Health shots for last summer, the striped t-shirt ones are quite simply to die for.

Pretty sure the Valentine rumour is a joke, let'ss be honest, even Reese couldn't be that crass (could she?).

    ReplyDelete
  59. Maybe somebody got hold of PR's plans for Reeke and thought it must be a movie.

    ReplyDelete
  60. This fauxmance has reached nearly tragic proportions. Instead of talking about verifiable facts, like Universal dropping Type-A Productions, or the absence of a firm next film for Jake, we're talking about a fictional wedding engagement.

It's like throwing a bright, shiny red ball in front of a cat napping in the street, hoping that it doesn't notice the huge tractor bearing down upon it.

Reeke is not only a media creation, consisting almost entirely of smoke, mirrors, fabrications, unsubstantianted rumors, staged photopics and deliberate misrepresentations and/or silences on the part of both actors, but it is also shredding Jake's professional reputation.

The Gyllenhaals should be ashamed. Utterly ashamed.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I know NETB and Special must have loved Fever Pitch. Damn Red Sox:-)

    When Harry Meet Sally :-)

    ReplyDelete
  62. Well said Bond. I'll admit to being a little too much like a cat at times.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Rom-coms I can tolerate: forgot about Fever Pitch. It works because of John Cusack, and the acid view of love/human nature.

But I despise most - I'd rather stick red-hot pokers in my eyes than see PS I love You. Really.

    ReplyDelete
  64. ^^That one didn't look appealing to me at all, either, from the previews. I agree, I like the ones where you can laugh at human nature - the good, the bad and the ugly! I didn't get around to seeing Fever Pitch either, can't believe I missed that one. :)

  66. New from Defamer's Privacy Watch -

"· Jan 4 - Last night, waiting to pick up my takeout order at the insanely crowded Gingergrass in Silver Lake, I could have sworn I saw a handomsely bearded (I mean that in the facial hair sense, not the Penelope Cruz sense, although...) Jake Gyllenhaal chowing down with a group of 3 other normal looking people. There was a girl to his left and her back was to me and I didn't have the time, the room, the lack of dignity, or the energy to do a walk-by, so I can't add a +Reese sighting."

Defamer ; Jake Dinner with Friends?

    ReplyDelete
  67. Silver Lake??? Jake, what are you doing? That area is (GASP) a "gay enclave." How could you do that? You need to meet with us asap. I'm going to call Reese and tell her about this latest infraction from you. And we've worked so hard to straighten out your image too.

    ReplyDelete
  68. What couldn't the poster tell it was Reese from her perfectly highlighted blonde hair or her "Jake" Red Sox cap :-)

    ReplyDelete
  69. You better get on it pr, that's the first thought I had. Not to mention people are making fun of that beard (oops, I mean Reese) again.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Nah, couldn't have been Reese. Flynet wasn't there.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Reese is in Canada. They are shooting all the interiors for 4Xmas's up there.

Of course PR will tell you this was a California production because she doesn't like to leave her children.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Nah, couldn't have been Reese. Flynet wasn't there.

    LOL!!! Good one, ME!

    ReplyDelete
  73. Back for the weekend and Flynet is there:

    http://www.flynetonline.com/2008/01/run-reese-run/

She'll have the kids this weekend since she's been working all week I doubt they'll be another family outing.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Now would be *the* perfect time for a J & A photo. Any photo, doing absolutely anything. A return to the Rebel Jake of old! It would be too sweet. Even a sighting. That Defamer sighting is five days old, but it's a happy reminder that he's - hopefully - doing his own thing away from the Flynet photo calls and pr write-ups.

If that sighting was Jake and friends, It seems doubtful that it was Reese with them, seeing as it can *only* be Reese and people with Reese's DNA with him when they're out. And yeah, no Flynet, no Reese, hahaha.

Before this is all over, what I'd love to see is some photos of Jake and Reese with an assortment of Jake's friends and family (funny how those haven't occurred naturally). Maybe one day have it be Chris. The next, Jake's mum or dad. Ones with Reese's many friends might be fun, too. Besides the obvious third wheel factor, I'm just hungry for some photo analysis, lol.

Gorgeous post today, special. I love the picture of Austin just to the left of the one of him with his cute, curly mop - wow, very nice. I've also always loved the one of him in his rain boots. :) He's irresistible. You could call this collage "A Portrait Of Jake's Helplessness". He never had a chance and likely never will.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Our Jake in a gay enclave. No it can't be. His godparents must have made him go there.:-)

    ReplyDelete
  76. I'd find it strange to see a picture of J&A now. I'd rather Jeese was over first (next two months IMO) THEN see a photo of them together.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I know what you mean, max.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I'd prefer that, too, Max, in the big scheme of things. I guess I just have this need to see things messed up a little bit; it's far too calculated. I want to see a crack in the facade. Heck, I want to see pictures of the two of them with other people they know for my own evil enjoyment. Don't mind me. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  79. TR, there are shots of Reese with her mother on people.com.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Anyone going to claim 6:34 as theirs?

    ReplyDelete
  81. Sorry--that was me.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I love the pic of Austy in the far right column, second from the top, in the brown suit with the book.

    ReplyDelete
  83. I could never pick just one pic or just one look.... now you understand why I love collages!

    ReplyDelete
  84. That is NOT a good picture of Reese, and I actually think she's pretty cute generally. I also never bought her sexied-up image - thought she looked better before she lost weight.

I guess bearding can weigh a bit on the slow and make a girl look pensive a la Marie Claire.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Why oh why do they always have to photoshop to death otherwise good looking women?!?

Reese looks like some kind of wax doll on that MC cover!

    ReplyDelete
  86. Wow this whole jeese thing sure seems to have worked for reese while poor Jake looks like a sad little boy who has lost his way.

I dont know about anyone else but I need Jake to give us some love and do what he does best BE JAKE!

    ReplyDelete
  87. Bond, you know if you actually looked at anything but the gossip rags and websites you would see that Zodiac is getting tons of praise and is up for WGA awards and other critics lists and nominations. That is a very good thing in Jake's career. The Zodiac Directors Cut dvd came out and is getting great reviews too. Zodiac is only behind There Will Be Blood (which Jake's godfather Robert Elswit is getting lots of awards and nominations for because he did the cinematography) and No Country For Old Men in critical praise. There is still some chance Zodiac could get some Osar nods like best Screenplay.

TR, do you have some personal knowledge of Reese, Ryan, Jake's schedules or something? You sure act as if you are "in the know". Although I take all your "knowledge" with a grain of salt. As I do all this stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  88. I've been enjoying looking at some of the stills taken from the Zodiac DVD extras. You get to see the real Jake there. Working, but content; even playing around on set as he does.

Speaking of photoshopping (which truly is out of control these days), has everyone seen that recent photo of Britney and her two sons? It's quite a nice picture, very natural, but the photoshopping done on her two kids is ridiculous. The eldest is so smoothed out it doesn't even look like him! And these are kids!

  89. If its a decent script, I think Jake would be great in a comedy. Perhaps Jake wants to branch out and do different things. Who knows it might be better than we expect.

Thanks for the great Austin collage. How I miss that boy!

  90. This was interesting, a reporter commenting on the stars.

    Part about Jake:

Most stunning: Jake Gyllenhaal. Virtually all actors look better onscreen than in life. Gyllenhaal, chiseled and magnetic, is a rare exception. His female counterpart would be the jaw-dropping Bryce Dallas Howard.

I never heard of BDH, will have to look her up. What do you think of her, is the reporter right??

  91. Bryce Dallas Howard is the daughter of director Ron Howard, and an actress with roles in M. Night Shyamalan's The Village and Lady in the Water and the role of Gwen Stacy in Spiderman 3.

The irony - Bryce and Jake are close friends.
