80 years forward 2 years back

Fast forward 80 years from Billy and Jimmy to another pair beaming their affection for each other. Today marks two years from the first Lakers game for Jake and Austin. The first look at the ring and the first the glimpse of that grin that appears just for Austin.

The pictures were confirmation for some, conversation starters for others, but one thing they were, they were the most open and candid moments of Jake and Austin seen.

"He makes really smart choices.
He knows what works for him. And the kid can sing!"

"I know when I wake up in the morning
with the person I love, we end up laughing.
It really is the morning time,
the waking up time that I look forward to."

"I've learned a ton from Jake. He's a really sharp guy.
He told me everything about acting, the business, girls, life."

"The only people who can help you are
those who stay by your side
in hard times, those who really love you,
not stopping at saying so."

"In the end, it's about how hard it is to love somebody,
to really be intimate, to really let go and be open to that,
no matter what the context."

  2. Aw, what a beautiful post. I hope and believe J is getting support from his main man during this hard time.

Hugs to kacie & glad to hear you are well. Also how wonderful to hear from Heph again. I've missed your posts!

  3. Here is the sonnet that Michelle Williams read at Heath's interment, very appropriate:

"Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date:
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimmed,
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance, or nature's changing course untrimmed:
But thy eternal summer shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow'st,
Nor shall death brag thou wander'st in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou grow'st,
So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee."

  8. Such unguarded moments. They were so lost in themselves, they forgot the world was watching. I just love these pictures. You can tell it's the real Jake we see here, not his Hollywood persona, whatever that is.

A lot of good it did him.

  10. I guess one thing that always stood out for me, how in every picture there is one part of them touching the other, an arm, a shoulder, a knee. And how Jake had his hands tucked in or clasped together in many pics telegraphing what he really wanted to Austin to do.

Wonder where the next two years will lead?

  15. Well sorry but I think that if Heath had so much beauty and love in his life he would not be such tormented person. Something was obviously not so rosy about his life. Words words words, and a beautiful ceremony to make everybody feel good, but ultimately Heath is dead. Sorry for being cynical, but cannot help but thinking why was Heath left alone in an apartment in NY in a condition of very deep depression.

    ReplyDelete
  16. The only thing that is missing from the pictures above is what Jake is thinking. Looks to me like all he wants to do is put his head on A's shoulder and to put his hand on his leg.

They are totally connected in these pictures. Nothing seperates them. No jeese two years ago. This was real.

    ReplyDelete
  17. He wasn't left alone, he was seeing people the night and day before and had plans for the evening he died. Call me naive, but I believe his death was an accident.

  18. Getting back to Jausty, I love how in the middle two pictures first Jake is looking at Austin's mouth while Austin is talking and then Austin is looking at Jake's mouth as if thinking about kissing him.

Word. And I don't think skanks like Mary Kate Trollsen and Lohan and that party crowd did much to help deflect him from his depression and demons.

  20. I am so bummed out guys. I just got back from the pool and a young couple lost their dog. The guy jumped in the pool and the got scared and ran back toward a bridge taht crosses the lake. He was a tiny liitle guy and I really think he fell in the water. The girl who owned the dog is so upset. We looked all over and we couldnt find him.

I would die if I didnt know where my Maggie Mae was. Pets are so much a part of your life. I cant believe how upset i am for the young couple and little Vito. He came over to me and let me pet him when I first came down to the pool. Damn.

  27. Feeling Heath's loss, traveling blog-verse, and loving these my favorite Jake/Austin piccies...and though I never agree with any of your Reese/Jake assessments, because I can't bear Jake being called names or liar or anything similar ever, these two men obviously have a great love and affection for each other.

This series of pics, which I saved and posted, oh so many times on DCF were the happiest and most in sync pictures I've ever seen of any couple.

It's just too bad the photographers and paps ruined their outdoor fun...because the next pics of them taken in April of that year, were not happy, but were rather sad and pensive, Jake's eyes filling with a watery substance simliar to tears, and Austin looking as if he wanted to be anyplace else, but sitting with Jake at courtside.

    ReplyDelete
  28. If you ever doubted if they know if they are going to be photographed read between the lines of these quotes. Reese knowing what the article was going to say (you know she had the advanced copy) is already on the offensive with a tough love, sensible southern mom rebuttle to her too sensitive ex.

    Ryan Quote

he is concerned about how his kids are being affected by the paparazzi. “It’s really scarring. It definitely does a number on my eight-year-old daughter. To hear her say that she worries about what she’s wearing when she leaves the house because she knows her picture will be taken…. She’s worried about friends at school who come up to her and say they see her in magazines. It’s a really disturbing environment to bring up a child in. You don’t know that when you are in your early 20s and you have your first kid. You don’t know how ugly it can get.”

    Reese Quote:

“We all sort of deal with that in our own childhood or raising children. I wouldn’t want my kids to miss out on any of that teasing and bullying. It makes you who you are".

    ReplyDelete
  29. reese actually said that. Hard to believe any parent would feel that way. Hopefully she was misquoted. I sure wouldn't nominate her for mother of the year. She does say some weird things. Like when she said rendition was a fun film.

    ReplyDelete
  30. No she said it on Good Morning America. No chance for a misquote.

    ReplyDelete
  31. “We all sort of deal with that in our own childhood or raising children. I wouldn’t want my kids to miss out on any of that teasing and bullying. It makes you who you are".

Yeah, I had a great time being bullied when I was 13. I was terrified-I couldn't depend on my teachers. I cut classes so I would miss the bully. Eventually I had to go to my mother who bless her strong spirit, went to the principal and kicked ass.

    ReplyDelete
  34. That is a very strange thing to say. I have a daughter the same age as Reese's daughter and I would hate for her to be bullied. As it is, my daughter does get a certain amount of teasing from some of the girls at school, cos she's a tomboy and prefers to play football with the boys than engage in more "girlie" pursuits with the girls and I'm very proud of the fact that she makes no apologies for liking what she likes and tells anyone who teases her that she doesn't care what they think. But it sounds like Reese thinks she's doing her kids a favour by making them targets for bullying. It makes her sound very cold.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I am not a Reese fan or defender but you may want to actually hear her say what she says before taking bits and pieces to judge it. The video is at Just Jared. I don't like bullying at all (was bullied as a kid and had to stop taking the school bus because of it) but I think her point is that having some adversity can make you stronger as a person.

  38. Granted, Ryan's response was a lot better than Reese's, but I think Reese just didn't express herself well. I know what she means - you do your children a disservice if you shield them from life too much, do everything for them, buy them everything, protect them too much. They have to experience things on their own to learn values and to find their own way in the world. While I wouldn't go so far as to want them to experience teasing and bullying, children learn from both positive and negative life experiences. I grew up poor without all of the advantages some others had, I had to work for what I got, but I was equally as intelligent if not more so than they were. I wouldn't trade my growing up years for anything; it does make you who you are and gives you a valuable perspective on life and sensitivity to others. I have put on my flak jacket. :)

  45. It also implies that we are at OMG, and WFT, aren't the only ones who have questioned Jake's silence or his motivations over the past several weeks, unlike what the Reekers have been shrieking, while using the 'main media' as a shining example of journalistic integrity.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Sorry but you do seem like you are looking for a fight. Ted has a point here. Jake should be allowed to deal with this in his own way.

    ReplyDelete

  49. Remember a community is built on respect.

    Thanks guys!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Ok, I watched the video and I'll admit I was reading Reese's words out of context. I thought she was refering to bullying and teasing her kids might go through as a result of the media intrusion refered to in Ryan's comments. I agree with her to a certain extent that going through things like not getting on the soccer team are character building and teach kids a valuable lesson.Disappointment is a fact of life that we all have to experience sometimes. But I wouldn't call that bullying, that to me involves deliberately inflicting cruelty on someone, and wouldn't wish that on anyone, least of all my own children.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Sometimes Ted should follow his own advice.

    ReplyDelete
  52. but I think Reese just didn't express herself well.

ITA. I don't think she meant her remarks to come across the way some people seem to be taking them. I think she was saying that adults today try too hard to soften ALL the blows and disappointments in life for kids, and that doing this harms the kids' development.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Yes, I'm no Reeke of Jeese fan, but that's only fair. Thanks guys! :)

    ReplyDelete
  54. ^^sorry, Freudian slip ;) that should have been "Reeke or Jeese fan".

    ReplyDelete
  55. Yes, children need life experience in order to grow, but how old are Ava and Deacon? Not even out of the single digits yet, right? Expecting them to understand the hardship that living brings at that age is rather harsh in itself. I bet Deacon is still in the discovering how he fits into his world, he needs more time to be master of that small sphere before being hit with things from outside.

Of course, both kids have seen that world crumble around them with the loss of Daddy. And to add a new person so quickly thrust into that role, a person originally identified as 'friend' is hitting them with both barrels blazing. They were still reeling from the first, I doubt seriously if they've come to grips with the second. (And, yes, I know, Jake and Reese are NOT a real couple, but he has spent a large quantity of time with them both, and, as in the case of Ava who is a smart cookie it would seem and probably recognizes the position that her mother is placing Jake in even on walks and such, the bearding lite still affects both kids).

Perhaps that's what Reese was eluding to with her comment, that kids, especially those growing up in Hell-Ay and Hollyweird, must learn to ropes early.

    ReplyDelete
  56. ^^Yes, that's a harsh lesson to learn at an early age.

  57. Fast forward 80 years from Billy and Jimmy to another pair beaming their affection for each other.

As Destiny said it's been a long strange trip since Lakers I, but very instructive too and I'll never regret those days of dazzling hope. Like all of you I have a special place in my heart for those pictures, yet the words "Fast forward 80 years from Billy and Jimmy" in today's post also made my head whirl...

In a way I'm happy to realize that I no longer need any particular protective gear for that ride anymore. Time has made its work and the fits of disappointment or anger that still occur from time to time are rather short-lived.

Tom I hope that little Vito is found by his masters. As the fond mama of two certified pests myself I certainly share your concern.

About teasing and bullying: I tend to differentiate teasing from bullying. Bullying in my book is inexcusabe. I've seen it cause a lot of pain when I grew up and I would intervene if I witnessed it today. I understand that Reese means that children should not be kept in a bubble, and I agree. But since she's also a woman who shamelessly exposes her kids to the scrutiny of paps in order to promote her showmance, I can't help but find her words a little self-serving, to say the least.

Mr. Casablanca I agree that Jake didn't have to make any statement but I stand firm about by opinion that his team's silence was extremely unprofessional.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Must say that I disagree with Ted on giving Jake a pass on his silence. Everyone else close to Heath, even a few who weren't, found it within themselves to say a few words to honor the man's death. Even Michelle, the mother of Heath's child, was able to open up, see through her sorrow, and offer those very moving and poignant words to the rest of the grieving world.

    But, not Jake.

Seems as if, with his continued silence, and the pass Ted is insiting on, the statement really being made is that he was somehow more devestated, more distraught, more destroyed by Heath's death than family, than friends. Even more than Heath's lover. And because of this, because it's Jakey, he isn't expected to honor Heath at all.

    ReplyDelete
  59. The Sun set and Heath's friends and family celebrated it. Michelle's back to work. If Jake doesn't share his grief so be it, it's his choice, let'm do it when and how he needs to.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I agree, Dawn, too much water under the bridge, to grab that cliche.

But, mark my words, Jake's silence will come back to bite him in the ass.

    ReplyDelete
  61. If I had kicked the bucket, Jake would TRULY be grieving.

But he would never get back that ring! No way!

Dawn I totally agree with you.

  66. You don't know what happened in the car on the way over or on the way home. ; )

Don't be such a tease Austi. Spill. We won't tell. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  67. Some thots:

When have you seen Reeses daughter Ava smiling in any pap pics (whether she knows they are there or not)? Only 1 I know is the Abbie Cornish/wreath pic. Happy much? doubt it. Ava hardly ever smiles and it is far from normal for a child her age to look so sullen all the time.

Jake didn't say anything even thrua 3rd party, ie PR about Heath. Hasnt been seen at any memorials or funereal. Wanted to be silent, 'grieve in his own way' and avoid people. Doing that sometimes only prolongs working thru the issues and the pain, ya know?

I always come back to the fact that he was seen and photographed getting coffee and walking with Reese and kids and dogs in a public park 4 days after Heath died. As for Jake disappearing for Heaths memorials and funereal because he was 'grieving', this doesn't make a whole lotta sense. Something smells like bullshit.

And with all the silence he has somehow turned Heaths death into the Jake Show, have you noticed? One has to wonder if the ice-queen 'anything for your career' lessons from Reese are finally paying off.

    ReplyDelete

Destiny it does seem like Ted is being easy on Jake about this. Maybe somehow he knows jake is upset. Notice that both times Ted has talked about this he has used the word patience. Sounds to me like he expects Jake to say something in the future. We will see.

Maybe Jake has some unfinished business or contract to finish before he is allowed to speak. Something is not right people dont change as quickly as Jake has. I know BBM was two years ago but something changed and it changed fast. We know it started in Rome but we are not sure where it will end.

Not sure what you are talking about, to my knowledge Ryan is quite alive and very much involved with his kids.

    ReplyDelete
  92. All of these pictures are so great to look back on...but the 4th one down...that's the one that does it for me.

  93. The second photo made me think J&A
were close. I guess this sounds so
funny but sometimes I actually think that Jake is seeing Austin
and Reese BOTH. If Jake is seeing
Reese, why couldn't they just say
    so?
I saw an interview with Reese
this morning on Extra and the lady
that interviewed her asked if she
(Reese) believed in Prince Charming! They said she was RUMOURED to be dating Jake! Hollywood is something else sometimes.
I hate that Heath is gone for
to me he was exceptionally talented. Matilda will be lucky to
have her mother and all the family
    around her.
Thanks for all the good wishes
for my health. I hope that you are
    all well too.
Glad to hear Tink is getting
back to her usual self. It is sad
to hear about little Vito. I hope
    that they find him.
May I say that I think Jake and Austin are both handsome? I
have always thought Austin could be a fashion model.
I will always wonder if they
maybe had an argument or something
around May 2007 that caused them to not be photographed together anymore.
I just hope that they can be or remain good friends. Sorry for
such a lengthy post but this is just my opinion. I think it is just amazing that you think up such great articles and music! Keep up the excellent work!

    ReplyDelete
  94. I know that Nailed is Jake's next
movie. Has the Moon Project and
the Joe Namath movie been signed
for certain or do any of you know?

    ReplyDelete
  95. I wouldn't rely only on photos, kacie. They are both selectively taken and released, as we all know.

Now, since you're all asking, I'm NOT C from London but I have to agree that Ted looked radiant on that programme.

I've stayed well away from this debate, but I think a timely statement from Jake's people would have been advisable. That's always been the beginning and end of my opinion on this, it has nothing to do with what Jake might be feeling in real life, I'm talking strictly about professional courtesy.
