Nic of Time

Austin popping up in the wee hours of morning at the Beatrice Inn, and Butter showed him enjoying the New York City nightlife. But his days in the city? What do you think he did in New York, while Jake was finishing up filming Brothers? Plenty.

While Sophia and company seemed to be sitting front and center at every show at Bryant Park, the bet is that Austin was enjoying his time in town in his own way. Pouring over the Times with coffee, with maybe a sneak peek at the Post's Page Six. Time. Grabbing good food, not always at all the expected spots, you imagined him standing in line with everyone else in Washington Square Park at the Dosa Man cart. Blending into the city. All the while being the quiet observer of the people around him, soaking in the atomosphere, storing it up for future reference.

Austin being alone in the city he can move in anonymity, and when recognized, most New Yorkers just keep going. He can come and go with no worries. Afternoons of ducking in and out of little shops, stopping off for books, wanders in galleries, slipping in for an afternoon matinée, meeting up with friends. Time in his city.

  1. Great post, and I looove this song. I think you're right that he'd dine at everything from carts on up. As much of a foodie as Jake is, I can see Austin being more adventurous when it comes to carts and dives.

  2. I just want to see the ring out and about again.

Oh yeah, with Austin attached to it.

Had trouble posting for a few days here so belated Happy Valentine's Day and glad everyone is well. Good to see a couple of old faces back as well.

Re Reese and the kids campaign. I think someone is making up for the bully comment and her people realise Ryan looks like the better parent these days.
Funny how it's her dad that Ava felt comfortable bringing the pap topic up with.

  3. Reese is looking more like mommie dearest than mother of the year these days.

  4. It's just Ryan going for the "sympathy vote". I don't think it was an accident that Ava was caught Christmas shopping with Abbie or that Ryan was caught grocery shopping with Deacon and hugging him.

So, after years of using her children as window dressing to show a happy marriage, to help the jilted woman image, to gain sympathy as the single mother, to promote the showmance, NOW she's taking the paps to task?

    Sheesh.

This woman has absolutely no shame.

  7. Totally see Austin loving the vibe of NY. Everyone doing their own thing. From coming from a place like Austin where the celebrate keeping it weird, NY could be a second home. LA seems to just want to strip away the quirks and repackaging them according to the call sheet sent to central casting. NY revels in the uniqueness.

Word, and Word again! And I agree that from what we've read Austin seems to be the one who doesn't shy away from culinary exploration.

Gang of Four, The Buzzcocks, The Clash... I love these old (sigh) bands.

Gotta go; I'm not supposed to be here... ;)

  9. Except for the Dosa Man cart most carts in NY are not clean or healthy. This coming from a NYer. I don't think that makes you less adventurous. Just because he is a foodie, Jake doesn't seem above going to a bar eating different foods. I think that is probably what J&A have in common. They like different things, foods, movies and probably share that with each other. :)

  10. After the reappearance of The Ring I'm foolishly optimistic about a Jaustin sighting - particularly if Jake is in NY. (Not a picture - that would be far too optimistic for me!)

  11. I would like to hear from folks what they like about New York. I've been there several times and it was not my cup of tea. Just wondering what other people think is so special about it.

  12. Austin seems pretty happy these days with a jaunt in his step. I bet he is glad that he can still fly under the radar.

  13. I live in New York City and have been a resident for nearly 20 years. I went to college here, grad school, have experieced milestone moments and events here. I've gone to most of the major cities in the country and some major cities in Europe. And in my opinion (I'm biased), there's no city in the world that's like NYC. Some come close but nothing rivals New York City in terms of energy, culture, commerce, etc. It's extraordinary. NYC to me, will always be the epicenter for EVERYTHING. It's a reservoir of energy that always fills me up.

    But then I'm biased.

It is better living here when you have money.

  14. It's a reservoir of energy that always fills me up.

That is interesting, BWF. Let me ask you this- do you think that NY is more appealing to extroverts v. introverts? I am an introvert and the thing that I didn't like about NY is that for me it feels like there is too much going on. Maybe it's just me.

    ReplyDelete
  15. It does have it's own energy and liveliness, a vibrant heartbeat and an excitement, there is no other place like it. It does seem to move a little bit faster than other cities, a New York minute is a little quicker, but I love that energy, and New Yorkers, real and forthright people. I love all of the different neighborhoods joined into one. I have not been there as often as I would like to. I have favorite cities, and they all have their own character. There is no place like NYC. I do feel also that it is like an epicenter. I'm glad it's Austin's city; I hope that J&A will make it their home one day! :)

  16. Wicked, I'm an introvert, but there are times that I feel a need to "get out of myself" and meet other people different from me, and talk with them, and traveling is great for this. You see that we all have differences, but are the same in a lot of ways too. I can always pull back into myself when I need to. :)

  17. Mommie Dearest Reese can dress up Ava as much as she wants but one thing can't be faked is how unhappy Ava looks when with her. Only time she was papped smiling and happy and carefree was with Christmas wreath shopping with Abbie and Ryan. "Double Standard" - that was no accident/on purpose, that was REAL, genuine. Whether she knows if paps are there or not, I've never seen a 8 yr old look so constantly sullen and distressed like Ava does when she's with her 'perfect mother' Look at those 2 sets of LA Park pics, is Ava smiling and happy in any of them? Nada. Makes me wonder if Reese is the bully in that family.

  18. I love the energy of New York too, but one of the things I like best about NY is fact that you can walk or take the train almost anywhere, and not having to drive, especially to work. This includes everything from walking to and from work unless the weather is extreme to being able to run across the street to the store if I'm in the middle of cooking and need something. And speaking of food, the variety of food in NY can't be beat. And I do eat from the carts for lunch almost everyday, usually from a cart near my office that has Indian food that is as good as any you could get in a restaurant. I have to disagree with Sharing on that one, as I don't see that the carts are any less clean than a lot of delis and similar spots where people usually grab lunch.

I also like the fact that "arts" in every sense of the word are a big part of the city and a dominant industry. And I don't always take advantage as much as I should, but I like knowing it is all there if I want to.

And Wicked, I think of myself as an introvert, and I think I feel more comfortable here than I do elsewhere. I think that is due to another reason I love NY, to a far lesser extent than anywhere else I've been there is no expectation that there is one norm (which usually means straight, married with kids if you're of a certain age, white and christian). If my gf isn't around and I feel like just being by myself, I feel completely comfortable going to a restaurant, play, concert, etc. by myself, and I don't feel like I get treated any differently the way I do in the burbs.

What don't I like about NYC? Not having a yard, not having a car and being able to escape into the desert like I did in Arizona, and the fact that it is a lot more crowded than in the good old days when everyone was afraid to come to NY.

    ReplyDelete
  19. New York has tons to do and see, and you can just do your own thing, which is way cool. As an amateur photographer, it is an awesome place to shoot. But the hustle makes me way too pushy and aggressive just in trying to keep up, and it is constant, you just keep going and going.

Here in Boston I can still do my own thing, the city has great energy, not to the level as NYC of course, but still great energy and I don't turn into that person. Ok maybe I do during the commute and baseball playoffs.

Destiny, I was going to say this too. Dosa? I would die for that. I'm crazy about Indian food. :)

  21. I love the energy that you feel the minute you step foot onto a NYC street and, being an introvert, I also like the fact that I can go about my business and be completely anonymous while being in the middle of crowds of people. I actually do not like being in places "where everybody knows your name" and where everybody knows your business.

I also love that you can walk everywhere, never run out of new restaurants to try even if you ate out everyday and that there's no end of new things to do or see no matter where your interests lie.

  22. I love this post - I can completely see Austin mooching around bookshops and galleries in New York (which I *heart*, by the way).

Always been so intrigued by his "my city" comment :)

  23. Destiny, While I agree with most of what you say about NY. Those are the reasons I love it too. However, I don't eat at those open salad bars in the delis or at most of the street vendors. I know people who have gotten very sick from some of that. I do agree there are a great variety of cheap and delicious foods.

  24. I love that you can find anything I mean anything you can imagine.

I love visiting NY, don't get me wrong. I just don't know how I would do living there. I think I appreciate it more as a guest than I would as a resident.

  29. Living in AZ now, I'm originally from Connecticut. New York has and always will be a phenomenal place. I've done the Pride Marches down Fifth Ave (both directions), practically lived in the W. Village. The song that best captures my devotion for NY is David London's "The Sound of the City", from that colossal flop of a movie, "Can't Stop The Music", with the Village People. It's available on Itunes and Rhapsody. Although it's almost thirty years old, it still captures the quintissental vibe of the best city in the world! Venture a listen if you can tolerate a bit of dated kitsch ;)

Seems Tom has been enjoying sunny F-L-A more than anyone knows just leaving Wicked alone to fend for herself. Heard she is claiming nothing is wrong but insiders say she's said that the plan has been scrapped.

  32. Valentines Day and Night Report:

Twicked enjoying the sunny delights of Florida and the fever of baseball spring training! The uber-hot couple were kissing and hugging, fondling and feeling up while at Pitcher & Catcher Day. At one point during the event (the baseball one, dear readers), Twicked disappeared into the stadium restroom together for 11 minutes. And we don't think it was to fix Tom's frayed sweater, if you get our drift. Those two sure know how to pitch and catch the lovin, that's for sure!

The pics taken of Handsome Tom and Super-Tiny Wicked runnin the bases, playin pickle and rockin the home run are so HOT HOT HOT our attorneys are having to review them before public release. We don't want the FCC calling "You're OUT!" on us so stay tuned for more.

Exec 2: Rachel Bilson, Hayden somebody, 'Be good to Momma' Latifah, Jakers and Reese, about 18 others.

Exec 1: Jeez. Well at least the screwed up hetero image of middle America is keeping us in business, eh?

Exec 2: Yep. And let's hurry it up, I gotta a date at the bathhouse with those wannabe actor twins I was tellin you about.

Exec 1: I hear ya 'bout hurrying it up. This buttplug my bf wants me to wear is killin me.

  35. Arriving back home at Philadelphia International the swarm of the paparazzi hit me as soon as I walked off the plane. Everyone was screaming and yelling T are you engaged, are you getting married, where is Wicked. I am so angry right now. I am so thinking about firing my people. I had no idea it would turn out like this. I got to go back and read the fine print. I dont know if my unique fanbase can handle this. What is in this for me. Get me to New York. Get me to New York.

  37. gg.. I just read that, poor Jake, he'll be blamed for the iraq war and global warning next.

on a more postive note, I love the idea of Austin mooching around New York, although Austin mooching anyway is an attractive thought.

Also is it too soon to think that the fluffy, valentine reeke filled vomitfest is not going to happen. Let's hops so.

  40. Exec 1: Shit. We're having problems with Twicked.

    Exec 2: Like what?

Exec 1: Well the paps caught Tommy gettin off the plane alone.

Exec 2: Shit. Are the pics all over the internet?

Exec 1: Well whadda ya think? And all the site comments are yelling showmance cuz of it. Fuck.

Exec 2: Hey it's not my fault. Look, all we have to do is say he disembarked before Wicked to distract the paps. Or that she went out another exit. Easy as pie, the public'll believe it.

Exec 1: Yeah, you're right. Unless Tommy Bomby had sex with another male flight attendent and the story ends up in a blog again. Shit. I hate having to work with these horndogs.

Exec 2: Oh I know....it's hard enough making up the fake romance crap and then they go ruin it all by doin their real life raunchy. Shit. Let's hope if Tom Tom did the Bomb Bomb again it'll just end up as a blind item somewhere. Fuck.

Exec 1: Okay well back on track. The other problem we're having is Tom is getting too many Google Alert hits.

Exec 2: How many is he supposed to get again?

Exec 1: 10%, Wicked 90. But this time Tom got 25%.

    Exec 2: Oh crap.

Exec 1: Yeah. It was because of that stupid 'frayed sweater' line you wrote. Bunch of knitting crocheting and sewing blogs picked up on it.

Exec 2: Well hey you approved it. Okay, live and learn. Or should I say knit and purl? Ha!

Exec 1: Shut up. Next time, just say old or favorite sweater, okay? We don't want Tom getting any sympathy Google hits from the knitting and sewing contigent. Wicked is gonna be pissed when she hears about it.

Exec 2: Hey maybe next time we can say Wicked is into knitting, makes blankets for all the poor people in some third world country. That'll get her a lotta points.

Exec 1: Yeah sounds good. Plus knitting goes a whole lot better with that 'she's so tiny' crap we always have to write.

Exec 2: Remember those crock o'shit releases we did about her furniture building hobby? Fuck, she doesn't know a nail from a hammer. Sure glad no one remembers those stories anymore.

    Exec 1: Yeah me too.

Always planned to see that but not first day or week, but now I will be there as soon as it opens.

  47. Clean shaven and freshly trimmed too. Looks like a little boy. lol

He has his keys, his phone but whats that green thing in his hand? It looks like a leash but too thin small for Atticus. The back window of the car was down a little. Maybe he has a new dog? Or cat? But maybe its just a key leash, cuz why would he have a leash with him in the med centre and no pet. Unless he left the pet there. Or maybe Jakey's into leashes, carrys one around whereever he goes, just in case. He could tie me up with that green one. OK my imagination is running away..running away with Jake and wearing his green leash.. Jeez. is there a cure for this??

  48. flf actors have to have physicals when they do films. Plus they have their own stuff going on like all the usual annual visits and dental checkups, eye exams, maybe allergy shots, chiropractor, psychologists, hypnosis, dermatologists, sports massage, you name it. And med buildings have more than doctor offices in them, like pharmacies and optometrists. Shit if I was photographed every time I walked out of a med building during the course of a year you'd think I was near death or a hypochindriac.
