Come Blow Your Horn
Despite famous friends, success and growing as better actor each role he takes, Austin doesn't toot his own horn. Far from it. But why?
Looking at his interviews, he comes off as, bright, engaging, down to earth, a little self deprecating paired with wit, dashing charm and flirtatious fun. Come on, he's a great interview. He charms everyone he talks to, and that smile doesn't hurt. But it makes you wonder why there is such radio silence .
Agents are dying to find a client who is not only handsome but who can actually speak to the press. Why is that his agents aren't out there trying to get him press? Austin's no shy guy. If you were an upcoming young actor in Hollywood wouldn't you be out to make a name for yourself even if you didn't have any projects at the moment.
It is not laziness or disinterest. Is it contentment?
Is he just looking at the parts and not the fame ?
Has he learned what the price of fame is from those around him and doesn't want it?
What's going to happen with Informers?
I think finding parts even for someone like Austin is not easy. And so far his best performances have been as a character actor, and I think there are fewer such roles for someone his age. Plus, I wonder if his height sometimes gets in the way.
ReplyDeleteBut given the odds in HW, Austin has worked steadily it seems. Somewhere I recently read that 90% of the members of the Actors' Guild make less than $5,000 a year.
I hope The Informers does well and that he gets a lot of attention from it. He just needs that one project. If only JFC had been given more time and more people had seen it. He has improved tremendously as an actor, but maybe not enough of the right people have seen him.
I also still have hopes for his being in the next Milch series, and I wonder if he's had offers for other tv series, but is holding out for that.
Blending adept humor, mysticism, ensemble melodramatics and some downright 'out there' plot strands, "John From Cincinnati" is a unique viewing experience. Even when I had no idea where the thing was headed, it kept me embroiled in whatever direction it chose to take. With today's cluttered TV schedule and the overwhelming pressure to create a knockout series after the first episode, that alone is reason enough to celebrate this genre-bending effort from Milch.

He just needs that one project.
ReplyDeleteITA. Austin has so many gifts. He needs the right showcase for them. I also have hopes that he will end up in the new Milch cop series. I'm not a big fan of cop shows, but this sounds interesting. I'm curious to see what Milch will do with it anyway, whether or not Austin is in it.
I really miss JFC. :(
Why are they making another Beverly Hills Cop movie? I just have to ask. Also, I want the straight women and gay men here to tell me exactly why John Mayer is considered hot. I really want to know. I don't get it.
ReplyDelete^^He's not my cup of tea, I'd like to help out, but sorry, no can do! ;)
ReplyDeleteBut I would like to see Austin in another Milch project, the new cop project seems to have some depth.
Reese's ballcap
ReplyDeleteProbably the school the kids go to?
I guess now that the Raiders sequel is a hit we'll be getting more sequels from long-dead film series.
ReplyDeleteI used to think John Mayer looked kind of hot when he had a shirt on and was wearing jeans that showed off his long legs, but lately he looks bad, and forget all those tattoes. And that picture of him in the Borat thong? It's enough to scare a bisexual girl gay. :D
^^That was awful, wasn't it? ;)
ReplyDeleteMy cup of tea is Jake.
I might be in the minority but I like Mayer, maybe not everything he does but for the most part yeah. He's funny, odd, articulate and makes himself the joke, and he does have the heart of a bluesman, and for this blues loving girl it works.
ReplyDeleteThe gos of some of his extracurriculars I can really do without.
Have to say I wanted punch someone if I heard You're Body is a Wonderland again. But warmed up to him when he went back to his blues roots and doing his own thing.
"And that picture of him in the Borat thong? It's enough to scare a bisexual girl gay. :D"
ReplyDeleteHere's another bisexual girl also scared by the thong. ;) (and I don't see the appeal of John Mayer - I like my brunets like Christian Bale and Clive Owen, thank you very much).
Oh please - Clive Owen reminds me of Richard Burton. I love his face. :)
ReplyDeleteI think Destiny is right that Austin's height is a handicap to getting parts. He not only towers above most females but a lot of male stars too. Also, I think given what we know about him, he was probably embarrassed by the DUI. Friday Night Lights did get pciked up for another season. Let's hope they continue his role as Noah.
ReplyDeleteSecond pic really makes me feel good!
ReplyDeleteThere’s speculation that Ellis himself made the decision to ditch the fanged murderers from the film version due to criticism the book’s subplot received originally.
ReplyDeleteBret Easton Ellis Adaptation The Informers Loses Entire Vampire Sub-Plot with Brandon Routh?
Bret Easton Ellis says it's a beautiful looking film - I can't wait for Informers even if (as is likely) I will end up watching everything promotional on the internet and buying it on DVD.
ReplyDeleteYeah I don't think last year was Austin's favourite, but he's lovely, quirky, unlike anyone else and I really want to see much more of him. OK, rephrase ...
Does anyone feel that Jake signed on to do a series like PoP because the visual effects will most likely make the movie and not the acting? Does anyone think JG has discovered that he can't act except when the guy plays himself? A man who is afraid to come out.
ReplyDeleteI think he signed on for PoP because he's always wanted that level of fame, and I think he's a good actor. He doesn't only play himself. Really, he never plays himself - I don't think he's as troubled as the characters he plays.
ReplyDeleteJake is a fine actor who needs new projects. Box office successful movies if possible.

ReplyDelete^ I think we only need one of these :)
ReplyDeleteJake Twist was a closeted gay man.
ReplyDeleteJG plays this closeted gay man wins a Bafta and is nominated for an Oscar.
How was his reviews for Rendition?
How was his reviews for Rendition?
ReplyDeletePretty good, as were his reviews for Zodiac.
The NYT gave Zodiac a rave review and said Jake, RDJ and Ruffalo were all in top form. I think Zodiac was a great film that unfortunately never found an audience. The same reviewer for the NYT said Zodiac and There Will Be Blood made up her entire top ten list for 2007.
ReplyDelete'poor jake' -don't confuse awards with reviews. sometimes they run together but theyre def not the same.
ReplyDeleteLakers in the NBA Finals. Come on Celtics! I want a Celtics/Lakers series.
ReplyDeleteSpecial K dear. Jake and Reese will be sitting in the front row rooting for the Lakers.
ReplyDeleteDon't pack away the sick buckets for good yet, people! ;)
ReplyDeleteDon't pack away the sick buckets for good yet, people! ;)
ReplyDeleteLike we would!
She probably doesn't know a pick-n-roll from a give-n-go anyway. ;)
ReplyDeletea basketball from a marble.
ReplyDeleteWell if it's Celtics/Lakers in the finals you know Jake and Chris will be talking shit about the other's team. What are friends for. : )
ReplyDeleteYou will never see Jake at the game with Chris and no Reese. The only pics we've seen of Jake for almost the last year are of him and Reese, Jake by himself or Jake, Reese and Reese's kids. That must be a part of his contract with Reese.
ReplyDeleteDidn't say you would see them at the game.
ReplyDeleteBut I don't think Jake has stopped talking to his best friend he's had since he was 12. And friend talk shit about the teams love especially if they are rival teams.
Back to Austin, cause you know it is Austin Friday.
ReplyDeleteIt isn't just about him getting work, but for most non A list actors they are working hard to move up and getting out there and getting scene and getting coverage. Austin is doing the antithesis of that. There is not hustle to his game, or is that his hustle? having none.
NY Avon shopping week - remember Chris was walking to the car with his bags with reeke when they were leaving the hotel?
ReplyDeletejake was w/o reeke at clippers game with bookstore buddy too.
ReplyDeletesk, you KNOW their cell phones are burning with all the shit talk and wagers!!
Well it's late but never too late to catch a bit of Friday Night Austin - so thanks Spesh. :)
ReplyDeleteI also have hopes that he will end up in the new Milch cop series.
So do I, so do I.
Imagine: Milch's quirky writing skills combined with solid cop stories... In my wildest dreams I'm thinking about a combination of LAPD Blues & Dexter and salivating at the mere thought...
As far as Austin's acting skills are concerned, I have no trouble picturing him as the naive latest recruit, the cold-hearted serial murderer, the young professor regularly lending a helping hand to the local police dept, etc., etc., etc. In other words, I just want to see that guy back on the small or big screen pronto.
I think Zodiac was a great film that unfortunately never found an audience.
Just watched that damn DVD for the, what, seventh time or so? (Have stopped counting lately.) I'm fond of this film, of the setting, the acting, the procedural details, the atmosphere, the music - finally got the DVD with the fabulous Three Dog Night's "Easy to be Hard" song. :)
Destiny, just read this morning that the movie XXY is premiering over here. Will try to catch it. :)
Spesh you got your wish.
