Fly Me to the Moon

When you thought it looked scrubbed the Moon Project is back on the launch pad with a new writer brought onto the film, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Up and coming writer Dan Mazeau has been hired to redraft the action film about lunar colonization that was originally written director Doug Linman and John Hamburg. Mark Bowden revamped Linman's and Hamburg's script first, now Mazeau challenge is working on a script "based on an original story by Liman, Bowden and Simon Kinberg," Kinberg will be executive producing with Linman, the pair have had box office success with "Mr & Mrs. Smith" and "Jumpers".

So Astronaut Jake will get to suit up soon enough it looks like.

Astronaut, Soldier, Prince, Cowboy, Football Star... sounds like action figures, but in reality recent roles and projects in Jake's career. What little boy didn't dream of being at least one of those? Acting gives the chance to be all things taking some of those boyhood dreams of really being the astronaut, the cowboy, the Prince and bringing it to the role. It is the magic of that sometimes is the spark to such roles, that translated it from the page to the audience. Wonder if Jake will ever get to be the bird he wanted to grow up to be?

Are the astronaut and the Prince boyhood dreams or a way of providing security in his career with big box office projects? Jake has said he admired Matt Damon's career, that of balance big box office with smaller critically acclaimed roles and indie projects. Is he making his own version of the Damon plan?

And if not acting then what for Jake? Would it be serious run at cooking? Or woodworking? Or gardening? Or would be behind the camera? Do you think he would be able to walk away from acting completely? Or would he always keep acting a part of his life?

  4. Reese with Ben Stiller in new Cameron Crowe movie

You think that's why Ben was popping up in the Reeke mentions?

  9. I guess the shine is going off Jake. I don't know why this makes me sad; he has only himself to blame.

  11. I like this letter from "Jake from Boston"-

    Dear Ted:
On May 21 you wrote about Lance A. having “such nice legs (and, yes, I’ve seen them up close and personal, just like Sheryl and a few other assorted, as well as, smitten celeb types).” How close? How personal?

    Dear Hairy Wonder:
    Close enough.

  12. Wonder if Ted is giving a heads up to a mention of them in tomorrow's Awful Truth.

  13. Is there any hairier wonder with a yen for Lance's legs than Jake himself?

  14. Some ways I think Jake is trying to build some box office clout so he will be able to do whatever he wants, and I don't mean projects.

And soccer mom -- it is interesting now that you mention it about all the Ben Stiller mentions with Reese/Jake/Jeeese/Reeke.

  17. Ted has listed Jake but not mentioned him till next day before. I think things may get messed up during editing or something.

I may be the only one not horrified by the prospect of BBM, the opera. I am not an opera fan, have never even seen one. But as a devoted slash reader who has seen all manner of plots and variations of Jack/Ennis and BBM stories over the past 2 years, I am open to anything. It may even get me to actually go to an opera.

The Moon news is a bit of a concern. A rewrite could take a while to get done. I would like to see Jake in a movie more than once a year.

  18. Well Jake has worn his Sox cap, but a Jake from Boston, during the Celtics Lakers Final, with Jake as a such a big Lakers fan is very interesting.

  20. Dear Ted:
Thanks for the update on Jake and Reese (and I think it's Gyllenspoon instead of Githerspoon, though you know best!). But why are you the only one out there reporting that these two are a sham? Elsewhere, all we hear about are engagement rumors.

Who says it's a sham, darling? They truly are adorably, terribly close. Just like sisters!

  21. I did not see that letter in the 6/10/08 letters. Was it in the registered users special email? I have those sent to me at the office for some reason so would not see it until tomorrow. Actually, I know the reason. Makes for a treat at work to brighten my day when they show up. They are always juicy. Ted pulls no punches.

M, you are not alone. I also am quite intrigued by this opera. It could be a beautiful tribute to the film and book, and we need that with Heath's passing and the tragedy that left behind.

LOL! Marry me, Ted. Oh wait, you're already spoke for!

And the double entendre is fantastic. Ted implies that the people who really understand what's going on don't consider Jake and Reese's friendship a scam. That part is real, and necessary, especially given Jake's emotionally fragile state.

The scam is that Will and Grace are anything more than twisted sisters in real life. Clearly, they aren't, and the insiders understand this sad reality and accept it.

It is a sad reality indeed.
