History Making

Today is a monumental day in US history so for all OMG'ers outside the US please indulge us. We may ask this favor 2 more times, so mark your calendar for day in November and one in January 2009.

Today Barack Obama accepts the Democratic National Committee's nomination as the Democratic candidate for the 2008 US Presidential election. Obama will be the first African American Presidential candidate from a major party in the history of the United States. His speech and acceptance falls on the 45th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech .

It was that speech were Dr. King raised the public consciousness of the civil rights movement. He campaigned for the civil rights and racial equality, it became more than just racial equality it became equality for ALL people. And the need is still there today.

Change comes, and the need for change continues. It must continue. There are days when we want change to happen faster and sometime we forget how far we've come, when look ahead and see how far we have to go.

It took one hundred years for Martin Luther King to come before the nation after the Civil War, and less than half that to have Barack Obama running for the highest office in the United States. Change takes time, and this still much change to do. The barriers are coming down faster and faster every day.

It is participating the system of the electorate that help bring those leaders and legislation to make changes. It is a civic duty wherever you are around the world, to participate help shape the world we live in through the leadership we elect. It is not the only responsibility we have as world citizens to bring change but one that must be at the top of the list. What will you do?

It was sung by immigrants as they struck out from distant shores
and pioneers who pushed westward against an unforgiving wilderness.
Yes we can. Yes we can.
It was the call of workers who organized;
women who reached for the ballots;
a President who chose the moon as our new frontier;
and a King who took us to the mountain-top and pointed the way to the Promised Land.
Yes we can to justice and equality.

We know the battle ahead will be long,
but always remember that no matter what obstacles stand in our way,
nothing can stand in the way of the power of millions of voices calling for change.
We want change!

- Barack Obama

"I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: 'We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.'" Rev. Martin Luther King

  1. RIP Del Martin. I am so glad she was able to marry the woman she loved before she died. She must of died a very happy woman.

I haven't watched much of the convention till last night. Joe Biden is a very good man and has been part of the Delaware Valley/Tri State scene for a long time. He brings experience to the Obama/Biden ticket. I am very much looking forward to Obama's speech tonight. It is great that they are taking it to Mile High Stadium so many more people can take part in this historic event.

I have had a busy week so haven,t have much time for posting. It is really neat that Ted has included my letters in "The Awful Truth". I am not sure why he has picked several of my letters. NO I am not blackmailing him. That is so funny. It was great that he gave me the simple answer that I asked for. I was not really a believer in BT but now I think it may be possible. Why would Ted answer that question with an affirmative yes if he was not pretty much sure BT exists. If BT does exist I just hope that he/she is getting lots and lots of love.

Some of neagative reaction in the comments section where the letter is posted sure is unbelievable. I am just not sure where the negative reaction comes from or why. I may be a little obbsessed with all of this but aren't we all.

I am sure tonight is a night that many 55 yo black men have waited for a very long time. Movies like BBM and very influential gay people telling the world that they are proud of who they are is something this 55 yo gay man has waited for a very long time to see. I am so glad it is happening and if that is an obbsession I am ok with it.

  2. Thanks for that Matt Mitcham video, Valentino. Matt has got to be one of the cutest people alive. You know I want to pinch his cheeks!

Didn't realize that, Spesh. Very, very interesting. I wish Dr. King could have seen this.

I would like to hear from some of our folks from outside the US with their thoughts on how the Obama nomination is perceived. It is obviously a big deal here in the US, because it is the first time an African-American candidate has been nominated by a major party. How is it seen outside the US? What I'm asking specifically is how is the fact that finally the US has a presidential nominee who is a racial minority seen? Is it a big deal or not? And what did other countries make of the whole Obama v. Hillary contest?

  3. I hope no one minds but I wanted to tell Norwegian girl I will be in her beautiful country Monday 9-1-08. I will be on a cruise and only in Bergan for about 6 hours. my grandparents both immigrated to the USA from Stavanger. We will be touring Mt. Floien Funicular City drive. thanks Joker

  4. I've been watching the convention every night this week. Even though I am a bit of a politcal junkie this is not something I normally do. And while it sometimes feels like things don't change fast enough, when you really think about it it is really amazing that in 45 years we've gone from an era in which there so many barriers, particularly to blacks actually being able to vote, to now having Obama.

OT, thanks Retoucher for that great analysis. That picture never made sense to me, and I was always suspicious of the site it turned up on. I'm convinced it is fake.

And hopeful tb, it is almost like the old days around here lately. Now if we could only get rid of Reeke.

  5. It's a very wonderful time in our history, and a very proud day for our country if Mr. Obama becomes our first African-American president. When I think of the time of slavery, and all of the civil rights and equality struggles, Dr. King, and now the possibility of our first African American president, it brings a tear to my eye. He represents positive change for all people. I think he's a very inspirational speaker, gives us hope for better things, for all of us. Great post today. :)

  6. I'm not usually into politics, but Obama's presence makes for exciting times. He has my vote, so far.

Question - no I do not recall the date of the ent lawyer contract mention. It came up in the context of a payment having just been made. There was a lot of dicsussion about it at the time. Can't even recall if the discussion was on WFT or here.

Retoucher, have you ever studied the infamous 4th of July pic. Even an amateur could tell it was tampered with. Not sure even where to find it now. Does anyone recall if it ever showed up on IHJ? Funny how we can sense that something is off, even if we can't quite put our fingers on exactly why it's wrong. The secret to survival I guess.

    Same, and you're welcome! :)

I would like to hear from some of our folks from outside the US with their thoughts on how the Obama nomination is perceived.

I'm in the same boat here as well. My own interpretation of the scene in Berlin is that he has an unusually powerful presence overseas. He represents a stronger diplomatic presence and that could be the reason why. No one sees him as a bomb-dropper, he's actually looked at as a symbol of return to real diplomacy, in my opinion.

  12. I love the Chris Rock comment about Obama: "People say are we ready for a black president. Why not - we just had a retarded one".

(Yeah, I would never use the word "retarded" personally, but Chris was just trying to get his point across, and he's not a politician.)

  13. Popping in for just a sec. Where was that 4th of July picture published at? Seems like I've seen it before, but I think I saw it posted here or something, not at its original site. Is Avonlady supposed to be in it? Jake looks like he's sort of "planted" in that one. Maybe I should stop calling her Avonlady. No need to give free publicity.

Also known as the Last Supper picture.

    LOLLLL!!!

    ReplyDelete
  14. No Avonlady, but Jake did walk on the beach with Natalie Portman. This picture is even stranger than I remembered. The way he's looking forward, it's very similar to the concert photo. Planted is the right word for sure PG. And that's probably Austin behind him. Was the original a photo of them holding hands?

  16. Y'know I've been debating over the last 24 hours (in my own head) whether I could accept the possibility that Jake is hiding a bf AND a baby, all while bearding fervently with Reese.

I'm totally undecided, but it's things like the photoshopped beach pictures (and July 4th pix) that make me think someone is really keen to hide something. After that it's merely a question of how far would Jake, and his management, go to keep/regain a straight image.

That brings up another question - if there is all this hidden life surely a lot of people know about it by now. His family, extended family, close friends....how do you keep everybody silent? Loyalty mostly, I guess.

  17. I think most people in HW know about J&A, but I wonder how many of them know about Baby Tile? As for "civilian" I would think the circle of people who know would be smaller. After all, people in HW are all invested in keeping things quiet, as probably are the hangers-on.

while I am at work! I really did
not think that there was a Baby Tile. But now I wonder? If there is, I really hope that he/she are
getting lots of love and attention. All I can say, Austin
must really love Jacob to have gone through all this. I guess it
just goes to show what people go
through to hide their "real" personal life. I guess time will
tell how this all turns out.
    Jersey B/Tom, isn't this the
4th or 5th letter of yours that
Ted has answered? You really must
have a special way in that he
    keeps answering all your letters!
Jake and Austin must be excited
as are their families with the
new addition to their lives!! It
really does make you wonder how
much and to what extent people
will go to hide their personal
    lives and private ones.
Sorry for such a long post but
I truly do hope there is a Baby
Tile. Just out of curiosity, I
wonder if any of the movie stars
    have ever sued Ted?

  23. Barack Obama is a mediocre thug, and Biden is a snake oil salesman. We've seen this kind of pairing before. If this charade is historic just because Obama is a respectable black man than MLK, Jr. died for nothing.

As for Jake stuff, I have to say that I'm stunned to see that people are still discussing this Babytile business. Babytile now means 'Jake is bearding with a woman who has a child.' That's all it means.

I am pretty sure there were two pictures taken of reeke at the concert. They both looked like they were taken from an upper balcony. One was very clear and that one was jsut reeke sitting in seats looking straight ahead. The other was very blurry or distorted and looked as if Jake was touching reeses's hair. Unless I was dreaming I think they exist.

  29. Yes, two pictures. Second picture - Reese leaning her chin on her hand and looking at Jake. I think Jake was looking at the concert programme.

  30. After reading all the comments on OMG and WFT yesterday I have to say I was pretty speechless. I had to stand back and really think about all this. One quote did jump out at me though.

“It's a heavy subject and it involves one's own personal ethics, morals, and all that inside stuff that we don't let others see for fear of what they might think of us.”

PG was absolutely correct about that. It also takes into account what type of fan you are too. I was shocked to see all the infighting though. It’s clear that these two blogs have become very separate from when I first started visiting them a year ago. But then again, a lot has changed overall. I have to say it’s a little sad for me to see people actually praising someone for lying and hiding while praising others for being out and proud. I know that this is because of your love of J & A and I can understand that but it does seem a bit confusing to me.

I think I’m starting to lose interest in this whole thing anyway. It just doesn’t feel right anymore. Thanks for letting me vent.

BTW: The music today was awesome. I'll have to check that out on I tunes.

  31. m: Funny how we can sense that something is off, even if we can't quite put our fingers on exactly why it's wrong. The secret to survival I guess.

yes very true. its been found that people who survive violent attacks saw tiny clues right before. like they saw the person in their outside rear view window when they were standing and unlocking their car or something out of the corner of their eye. little things that the eyes sees but doesnt register in the brain or it does and something tells it its not important. like i go with my 1st reaction and gut feeling when i see a pic but then i look closer for proof. i think we all do it one way or another and m you are right, its a survival instinct.
i havent looked close at the 4th july pic yet but yeah the lighting on his face is a dead giveaway. btw what is the ones you talk about of austin being photoshopped out? haven't seen those.

prarie girl, i meant the non furry kind!

    ReplyDelete
  32. btw i made a mistake when i said 1300x. i meant 300x!
i went back and looked at it and its good in parts but the points of focus on the faces is totally different. thats why [with the naked eye] you can't see reese's face details like lips and chin, eyelashes, even the profile curve but you can see jakes eyes, beard and the hoody/forehead clearly. if the pic was real the face positioning would put them on the same focal plane.

    ReplyDelete
  33. prarie girl, i meant the non furry kind!

Retoucher, I dunno. After talking to some of my cube-mates awhile back, you wouldn't even be talking about their calves in the winter, LOL!!! Interesting conversation us girls had about how often you shave your legs in the winter. I was horrified at what I heard & I told them so! They were talking weedeater stage, not even razor. Sorry to horrify you men! Probably a little too much information, huh. So funny.
Retoucher, I really respect what you reported on finding. That was so impressive. It certainly earned a point on the Wow factor scale for me.

Okay, Tom, are you talking about the Rufus Wainright concert? We were talking last night about the Jack Johnson concert where there was only one picture that we saw. I just want to make sure I understand which concert you're talking about. The Jack Johnson concert is the one Retoucher was commenting about.

Oh, work was a BEAR today!! I'm so glad tomorrow's Friday.

Clarity, I feel bad that you're losing steam. I wish you didn't. It can get really crazy or discouraging sometimes, that's for sure. But I sure still have alot of fun on here.

Kacieeee!! Missed you! Sorry you've been so holed up at work. In about another month, I'm going to be just about absent-io myself through the end of the year. Actually, I think our busy season is just about to hit now. May be sooner than I thought!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Retoucher, it's Jake that's been photoshopped out of these pictures from early 2006. You can see some floating shoes and a fifth leg:

    Sophia and Austin

And here's Jake in a parking lot wearing the same shoes, and Sophia is in the same outfit:

    Sophia and Jake

    ReplyDelete
  40. You know, Destiny, I'd not looked close up at these pictures before. In a couple of the ones with Sophia & Austin, you can see another shoe being carried by somebody to the right of Austin. But they're cut off.

I wonder why somebody would cut Jake off out of these pictures? I wonder where they were first posted? An attempt by somebody to make it look like it was just Austin and Sophia, huh? Hmmm..

Obama's getting close to speaking. This is really an historical moment; kind of gives one chills. I'm pretty much Republican but I don't think I want McCain and I don't care if Obama's a Democrat. If he can lead this country, I don't care what party he is. I wouldn't care if it's HR Pufnstuf; somebody needs to right this ship!! And if HR Puf could do it, so be it.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Reese looks botoxed.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I would like to hear from some of our folks from outside the US with their thoughts on how the Obama nomination is perceived.

Well, Stephen Harper, our current Prime Minister, is a staunch supporter of the Bush administration and the "values" it stands for. Not surprisingly, Harper has strong roots in Alberta, one of our provinces with a very oil-dependent economy.

Thanks to the general apathy, indifference and disillusionment Canadians feel towards politicians these days, Harper has been able to get his way in a number of spheres; even garnering some positive results in satisfaction surveys!!!

Harper is now pushing hard for elections and some political commentators think this is due to Obama. Some specialists think that our Conservative government fears that a change of government in the U.S. might also trigger a wind of change that will inspire Canadians and pull them out of their current lethargy. With results that will not be to the liking of the current rightist trends in our country.

So it's clear that the U.S. elections and Obama clearly matter over here.

As for Clinton, the reactions were pretty much the same as in the U.S. People agree that she's a formidable lady with first-class intelligence and drive and a wonderful dedication to the re-engineering of the American health system (and God knows some serious reworkings are needed in that field). But they didn't like to see and hear Clinton constantly in the background.

Personally I also think that her worst liability was her husband. Time and again it felt like she was fighting for her family's "right" to occupy the White House. Also, her obstinacy has been detrimental to the Dems IMO.

Ok, enough with the policital stuff.

Valentino & About Damn Time, thanks for the links to those Matt goodies. This kid is just what the doctor ordered to counter my current BT spleen.

  43. I can't remember on which sites those photos ran, but the picture of Jake and Sophia ran on at least one of the gossip blogs, and a few days later we got the ones of Austin and Sophia.

  44. I'll call a spade a spade. Reese looks fantastic in those pictures.

Thanks, Destiny. Those pictures were before I knew who either one of them was. Who knows who I was following then.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Reese does look better than she has lately, but why are her legs so shiny? They look strange to me.

I thought Obama gave a great speech tonight, and did a lot of things he's been accused of not doing, e.g., giving policy specifics.

  46. Same old Reese with good makeup, good lighting and good angle.

  47. I cant see the entire 4th of July pic as the window opens too small. It was taken at Matthew McCongoghy's place. As I recall there were too many hands and feet, someone's clothing was in 2 places at once and all the people looked added in. Jake looks startled. I suspect the original was Jake and Austin alone.

I'd also forgotten how specific ent lawyer got. Not that many A-list actresses even dating, so it points to reeke pretty clearly.

Wonderful how we can pool our resources to bring clues together so quickly.

  51. The scale is off in that 4th of July picture, Jake's face/head are bigger than the people in the foreground. The image of Jake is clearly from a different photo.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Reese looks really tan like fake tan. I like the dress and her figure is nice but her legs are too shiny. I agree she looks botoxed. Her hair looks stiff, almost dirty. 55. maybe Jake was hanging out with the small head party people

    ReplyDelete
  56. Wicked, The US elections are being talked about in Australia too.

I think most people see Obama's endorsement as historic.

He is such a stirring speaker but he's going to have to do a lot more than that if he gets elected.

The biggest thing about the US president is that he/she becomes so much more than just the leader of a country because the US has placed itself in the role of worldwide peacekeeper (officially anyway).

As for the Clinton/Obama showdown, I much prefer Bill to Hillary but I thought that she made a huge error in dragging the fight on when she knew Obama had got enough points. It divided the party and that's never a good thing.

It remains to be seen what will happen but if the Dems can work together (and now with Bill on side -he's another stirring speaker) they've got a great chance.

    ReplyDelete
  57. OMG, prairie girl called Reese fantastic! The world has spun off its axis!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Hey, like I said, I call a spade a spade. And I said she looked fantastic. Not that she was fantastic. Big difference there.
One thing you can know. I always own up to what I say, whether it's stupid, off the cuff, or whatever. I don't hide behind a temporary name, albeit those crack me up when other people use them because man, sometimes they are just hilarious. Don't see anything wrong with them when it's a casual, funny comment. But that's what I like about OMG. For the most part, people use their blogger name that they registered with and aren't allowed to hide behind "Anonymous". Seems, in a way, of facing up to yourself & everyone else what you say.

Jake has a big head in rl. god I hope his poor mother had a cesarean
