OMG Olympic Event

For the past two weeks OMG has brought a unique perspective to the traditional Olympic games, Jake & Austin style. But before this closing ceremonies, it's now time for you to come up with your own Olympic style games with a Jake & Austin twist. Up for the challenge? What would get them up on the medal stand? And how many golds do you think they can get? What OMGer will capture the spirit of the OMG the best: "Citius, Altius, Fortius"- "Faster, Higher, Stronger"?

A couple from this Olympic minded mind:

Olympic Auto Texas Twister - Combining wrestling, rhythmic gymnastics and the vault in a parked car. Of course done in the spirit of the ancient Greeks.

Olympic Hide and Seek - Someone hides while the paps, press, fans worldwide try to seek. Extra degree of difficulty for size ( smaller, the higher degree of difficulty), duration, style, and risky maneuvers.

Ok... On your marks, get ready, get set , Go.....

  1. I think both heterosexuality and homosexuality should be Olympic events. It would make the Olympics even more interesting and I bet people who don't normally watch, would. Heterosexuality practically is an Olympic event; there are two sports that I can think of off the top of my head that are based on selling a hetero relationship to the judges- ice dance and pairs skating. As for Olympic homosexuality- could you just imagine?!

BEIJING (AP)—Matthew Mitcham of Australia, earning four perfect 10s on his last dive, won the men’s 10-meter platform in an upset Saturday night that prevented China from sweeping the eight Olympic diving gold medals.

Mitcham totaled 537.95 points in the six-dive final, edging Zhou Luxin of China by 4.80 points, and sending the platform title Down Under for the first time. He’s the first Aussie man since 1924 to win a diving gold, and just the third Aussie ever.

Zhou, who had a crooked entry on his last dive, took the silver with 533.15 points. Gleb Galperin of Russia earned the bronze with 525.80.

Zhou’s teammate, Huo Liang, finished fourth.

American David Boudia was 10th and teammate Thomas Finchum 12th, the second consecutive Olympic medals shutout in diving for the United States.

The Chinese went 7-for-8 at the Water Cube, claiming 11 of the 24 medals awarded in the sport that has produced the host nation’s most Olympic medals.

Zhou led through the first five rounds, earning three 10s on his next-to-last dive. But the 20-year-old from Beijing entered the water crookedly on his final dive, scoring 74.80 points and leaving an opening for Mitcham, who followed him on the tower.

The Aussie hit the toughest dive anyone did all night—a backward 21/2 somersault with 21/2 twists—for 112.10 points, including four 10s.

Mitcham got out of the water and dropped to his knees, holding his face in his hands. Teammate Mathew Helm rushed up to hug him. A small group of yellow wig-wearing Aussie fans exploded in cheers, and Chinese volunteers had to tell them to sit down for the last diver.

That was Huo, who also did the tough dive with a 3.8 degree of difficulty, but scored 85.50 points. Zhou went with a conservative list through the preliminaries, semifinals and final, never attempting the back 21/2 somersault with 21/2 twists that Galperin and Boudia also performed.

  6. Good Morning!!!!

That is Fantastic about Matthew Mitcham winning. I missed that he was from Australia. Boy, that Australia can really whip out the men. It's great when upsets happen. On any given day, in any given sport, anything can happen.

Hey, this is just too cool, forgive my newbie excitement, but this is my first time using WI FI outside of my apartment. I am at a Panera while dogsitting Sam, the 5 mth Lab mix. He is a HANDFUL. I know you all do this all the time, but I've never done this and it is incredible. Dangit, I wish one could use BOLD and underlining on these blogs. I feel strapped, sometimes. Got my WHOLE GRAIN bagel, (are you proud of me, Continental Europe?) and, gulp, well, a frozen Caramel coffee. Well, can't win them all. HA!

  7. Won't be a blog hog, so I'll try to keep it short.

These senior ladies at the next table were just inquiring to me about what I was doing, that I was on this WI FI thing, wasn't I? And I told them I was, that it was my first time and it was so cool. I explained to them how it worked. You know, just a couple years ago, my 93 or so yr old Sunday School teacher was herself using email. See? We are never too old to learn something. Isn't that inspiring? I always pray that if I live to that age, that I have my faculties & my health to still enjoy life as it is.

  8. Gotta go, can't sit in here forever; coffee's about gone, anyway.
Special, great post today. I don't have the sharpest, quickest imagination sometimes so I can't come up with anything right now. But I'm all for it, lol!
Hope you all's football teams do well this upcoming season. Unfortunately, it looks like probably another long year for the Chiefs. : (

Wicked, was looking @ some old OMG posts and ran across a picture of Tink. She's cute. What kind of breed is she? Looks familiar, but not sure. Corgi?

I had some far-out dream of maybe Caroline Kennedy being an Obama running mate, but I knew there was no way. That would've been something.

How nice to have a conversation with these ladies. They asked what kind of laptop I had & they knew I was having a good time because I was laughing out loud (laughing at those posts on here yesterday!). One of them would like to get a laptop; I said they should. And if they took typing when in high school, they were all the better. So nice talking to people you've never even met before. What a nice morning.

Anyway, sorry! I know I should be talking about what is relevant to OMG. Don't need to read this anyway. What absolutely wonderful news about Matthew Mitcham. I hope it'll be on the internet somewhere I can look back at because I missed it. Oh, hey, guess what was on LOGO last night? Priscilla! lol! I missed the first half of it, tho. I'll have to rent it, it was good what I saw. Take care!Everyone have a great Saturday. : )

    Kacie, where are you????

Tink's a Pembroke Welsh corgi. Tomorrow Tink will be attending the Blessing of the Animals service at our church with her brother, Potter (collie). I just gave her a bath so she will not offensive, at least smell-wise! Behavior could be another story.

Awesome news about Gro and Katja!

The men's 10 m platform diving will be shown in primetime here in the US, so folks here have not missed it, they just didn't televise it live.

  13. That's great about Matt, Gro and Katja!

My Olympic event for J&A would be the ring toss, also done in the spirit of the ancient Greeks, the object being to get your rings around as many of your partner's body parts as possible.

  14. Congrats Norway! Congrats Gro and Katja. NG girl will be very happy.

  16. Great videos. Thanks for posting them - both of you. I love that Matthew acknowledged and hugged his partner. My heart just melted : )

  17. How wonderful for Matt. I did not see his dive but enjoyed watching the video with his mom and boyfriend. Matt is a real cutie. Big eyes. Does he have a tongue stud or was that just a reflection of the light?

  18. I was going to post the clip from The Closet tomorrow I didn't have a chance to post at all today, but someone beat me to it. It is a touching clip.

  19. Congrats, Matt! I just saw it here in Arizona.

I knew we were cheering for him over here...so I had to come and comment!

What a lucky guy he is to be able to celebrate that time with his man. Showing the world - love is a beautiful thing.

...oh, and because I can, he's CRAZY HOT. Not gonna lie.

  21. Prairie Girl, I have been around
but have not posted! I have this
terrible cold and feel lousy. But
    congratulations to all in the
    Olympics including Matthew! He is
    really handsome! My favorite photo
of Austin is the one sitting on
the car. Those arms are muscular
and in good shape as are Jake's.
I have really enjoyed watching the
    Olympics myself. Please take care
of yourselves and have a great
    week!
I just got done reading a book
about Reese by Lauren Brown. Reese
does sound like a very professional businesslike person.
Anyway, good luck to all. I will
catch you later on next week.

  22. Does he have a tongue stud or was that just a reflection of the light?

Yes, Matt has a pierced tongue.

  23. Kacie, can you tell us more about what the book had to say about Reese?

  24. What I loved about watching Matt Mitcham last night was that he did not realize he had won the gold after his dive. He thought the last diver could catch him. He did not realize until a woman came up to him and said, "Matthew, you just won the Olympics!" And then he started crying. It was so sweet.
