Planned acts of Randomness
As if you needed a reminder of OMG's JFC Discussion beginning tomorrow (Friday) evening at 5:00 EST. You still have plenty of time to watch the first hour of JFC and make a list of you comments and questions.
Last week this picture was one of two up as a JFC reminder and the question was do see anything in the pictures? Maybe this picture should have been "Where's Austin?" Did you seem him in the mural?
In a way Austin is kind of like that in life. Kind of slips around undetected for a while and then appears. It is that almost planned kind of randomness in a way that creates a persona.
As it has been said before that someone who wants to climb to the top of the ladder in Hollywood would be using every opportunity to get their face and name out there, trying to get some coverage and buzz. But is seems that isn't the Nicholas Plan as we have watched him over that past few years. Not a lot of bold face mentions in the scene & heard sections, not many red carpets pics or mentions.
Is the randomness planned? Or is it happenstance? Is more beneficial or detrimental for him? Or is it all about balance? Giving him the balance between his private and professional life?
Now this is just annoying as a JFC fan.
ReplyDelete"HBO has renewed Alan Ball's vampire drama "True Blood" after only two episodes.
"Blood" debuted Sept. 7 on the premium network to a modest 1.4 million viewers. But the debut has attracted a total of 4 million viewers with repeat airings. Also, HBO noted the second episode grew 24%.
'We're in a business where we have to believe in the show -- and the show is fantastic,' said Michael Lombardo, president of HBO's programming group and West Coast operations. 'It gets better in every episode. The show deserves a second year whatever the ratings.'"
HBO orders second season of True Blood"
Hello? JFC - did HBO even give it a chance?
I have a name to ad to the out famous people: Eric Millegan, an actor on Bones. He was Out Magazine's Hottest Up-and-Coming Openly Gay Actor of 2003.
ReplyDeleteThanks Little Blue Pill. We will put him on our list!
Gawker found the BBM fan fic story and posted part of nosunlight's story as an example.
ReplyDeleteGawker
That was a quick renewal! Unfortunately I think JFC didn't get that buzz going that looks like might be happening with True Blood. And given how long it took Milch to shoot, I suspect it was an expensive show to make. But I think HBO didn't handle things right with the show, starting with the start after the Sopranos. I have more on this subject but I'll wait for tomorrow's discussion.
ReplyDeleteTiming is everything. The Sopranos ending was such a disappointment it set a bad tone for what followed. That was just the first sign that JFC was not to be.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone else now think that Austin's low profile is due to his being tied up with Daddy duties? At least he has his priorities straight.
I think he is doing a lot of daddy duty. And OTH part regular appearance (stability) and not a main character (not as tied up shooting)would work.
ReplyDeleteIs it me or have they tried to schedule when they can not to both work at the same time. Then who's to say that Jake hasn't had the baby with him too, there have been a lot of closed sets for him this past year.
That seems to be the case in the past year, but not anymore. Austin has the Chris Carter movie, and if he's going to be in OTH starting in October then he would have to be filming either now or in the very near future, so there is overlap with PoP.
ReplyDeleteDear Ted:
ReplyDeleteWe get it, Jen Garner sucks. Onto more important things...Toothy Tile! Could you please run down the "And it's not..." list for me. After all this time, I am getting hazy on the Un-Toothy Tiles. My guess for T2...Matthew Broderick.
—Jen, Iowa
Dear Too Much Toothy:
Toothy's much sneakier than lame-ass Broderick. As for the list, check out the Internet. I do believe someone out there's been keeping track.
Dear Ted:
Is Toothy Tile Viggo Mortensen? You mentioned Lord of the Rings in one of your responses about a Toothy Tile guess.
—Cheryl
Dear Connection Failed:
Not the Lord of the Homo we're looking for dear, sorry. Think younger, less real-life brawny.
Dear Ted:
Love the new format—Monday mornings not so much, the yellow hurts my eyes. Toothy Tile has to be Matthew McConaughey. He has that "trying too hard" macho vibe. And the baby mama was a pragmatic career move.
—Groutless in Toronto
Dear Macho, Macho Matt:
Matt's more Hickville than Gayville, sorry. But at least he's not Toothy, I'll say that much.

ReplyDeleteAnd

Err, can we get a reality check here? People keep on talking about Austin keeping a low profile as if he could have a high profile but chooses not to. But that's nonsense. The guy is a struggling Z list actor (not in terms of talent, obviously) who got(minimal) media attention when he was hanging out with Jake, plus some more attention when he did JFC and a bit more when he was arrested.
That's it.
The man doesn't need to keep a low profile because the media aren't exactly breaking down his door. He's one of tens of thousands of struggling actors trying to get work, not some Hollywood A-lister ignoring projects to keep a low profile.
Strange that Ted would mention McBongo again.
ReplyDeletetz,
ReplyDeletethese tens of thousands of struggling actors are usually front and center on every Hollywood event that they manage to get into.
And I think we can count on two hands how often Austin has done that in the last few years.
Or are you saying that the photographers stop taking pictures for a few minutes everytime Austin is on the red carpet?

ReplyDeleteI think you could count on two hands the number of big events Austin has been invited to, but go ahead and correct me if I'm wrong about this.
Or are you saying that the photographers stop taking pictures for a few minutes everytime Austin is on the red carpet?
So how many times has Austin been to big events and not tried to get attention by being photographed? What are all these red carpet events that Austin has
ducked away from attention at?
Really, what are these red carpet events? Those ten of thousands of struggling actors (of which Austin is one) don't tend to get invited to many. And when they do they don't tend to get much attention; you don't get to put yourself "front and center" at a Hollywood event, because you don't get to decide where the front and center is. Front and center is wherever the most famous person at the event is, unless you're an actress in a particularly scandalous dress ;)
Anyway, my point remains that the idea that he is keeping a low profile makes no sense because the guy has never gotten that much attention to begin with. He's Z list (although, to repeat myself, not in terms of talent. I've loved him in everything I've seen him and, and wish that he could have gotten a regular gig in the excellent Friday Night Lights rather than the awful One Tree Hill).
Where did I say that Austin has been to a lot of big events and tried not to catch attention?
ReplyDeleteWhen he is at an event he usually does get his picture taken (unless it's one of Jakes premieres, then yes, he tries to avoid being seen).
My point is: He's not actively seeking attention unless it's part of promoting his movies/tv series.
Yeah, Z-Listers might not get invited to the really big events, but they can show up at just about any premiere that they want to and they do get their picture taken if they do even if it's just one.
And then there's the little thing about going to the Ivy or any other well-known pap-spot. They will take your picture if you play it up enough even if they don't know who you are.
Just go awhile back on DListed and watch the video of the paps taking pictures of the woman that Michael calls Chicken Cutlet (can't remember her real name right now). They're asking each other who that woman is while they're taking the pics.
That said, I don't think that someone getting steady work would be considered a Z-Lister anyway. Not an A or B-Lister of course, but definitely not a Z-Lister either.
TZ,
ReplyDeleteUnlike most actors, Austin is usually always working and in a profession where 90% of its members are usually UNEMPLOYED, that's an accomplishment.
Any agent would be trying to get their client any face they could to help them move up. More face time, more mentions, give them more chance to be on the buzz for parts. It's part of that game. Its the same with gossip circuit, they give stories about their A list clients (what the magazines want because it will sell more copies) in exchange guarantee to give their B and rising stars some press.
ReplyDeleteAnd Austin isn't that Z-list. He is did something not many do, he had exclusive deal with HBO. Even the trades mentioned how unique that was.
He had the chance to ride that snippet more than he did.
tz: I think you could count on two hands the number of big events Austin has been invited to,
ReplyDeleteUh, INVITED to or GONE to? How the hell would you know how many events Austin was invited to?
Gosh darn it, things must be slow as molasses over at the wreeseship temple!
How funny is the video of the guys with the surf boards. Can't wait to talk about JFC tomorrow.
ReplyDeletesorry I meant the leaning tower of wreesehip!
ReplyDeleteIn the TNT drama Time Heals (is this a TV show or a Hallmark-card genre?), Jade'll play a widowed, single-mom nurse at a South Carolina hospital. Say buh-bye to any semblance of suspension of disbelief with that casting choice—think any viewer in their right mind would believe the richest wife in H'wood (save Kate Capshaw, 'course) is a down-on-her-luck mom with money troubles? (Hmmm, Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon as lovers, starring in People magazine, comes to mind right about now, can't think why.)
ReplyDeleteLOL!!
Get Real
Jada Pinkett Smith is heading back to TV—smart move, since The Women ain't exactly getting the gals and the gays, as the filmmakers oh-so-hoped would happen. Sex and the City it was seriously not.

God I love Ted.
ReplyDeletetwin posts! Great minds love Ted!

ReplyDeleteLOL TED! I just love him.
ReplyDelete"That said, I don't think that someone getting steady work would be considered a Z-Lister anyway. Not an A or B-Lister of course, but definitely not a Z-Lister either."
ReplyDeleteWell, how about D-Lister LOL Sorry, I had to do it. LOL but, he's working aint he?
Ted, you never cease to amaze me. Not afraid of anything. Keep thumbing your nose at Reeke.
ReplyDeleteI have no doubt that if Austin wanted to be seen, at parties, at clubs, at restaurants, he would be. He has chosen not too. And now we all know why.
they then start acting like Toothy Tile in a West Hollywood parking lot
ReplyDeleteLOL!~ Love how Ted always puts a Toothy reference in everything!
The Ent Lawyer put a picture of Austin and Adrianne Palicki only recently so I think there are certain blogs that would cover it if he was turning up at the opening of an envelope like some of these people do.
ReplyDeleteI lose count of the amount of 'stars' I see on blogs and I have no idea who they are.
As for the Ted/Toothy stuff, I really think Ted meant it when he said he was going to name Toothy. I think he's just building up to it. I also think Ted knows it is at a time when he can name Toothy and get away with it because of Toothy's bearding cover.
Ted knows there will be a ton of people who will say 'Duh' but will fall back on the 'Ted's making it up cause he's got something against Jake' agenda.
Ted knows this is his best chance to name Toothy and then put the BI to bed.
Ag when did Ted say he was gonna name Toothy? I have been working so much lately I havent been able to keep up with things. Ted sure has been giving us what we want lately but I think it may be due to the fact that so many people didnt like the new format and he wanted to give us what we want more and more Toothy. I hope your right though.
