"I like Coffee, I like Tea....

Time out alone in Paris this past summer and you get a glimpse of the Jake many wish to see again, with a grin, a good book and a little shopping. Who said the company you keep doesn't matter?

Yes this was business but he was enjoying this afternoon. This was research that Jake got really into because it was things Jake loves, books and tea. He will do the coffee for "business meetings" but you know the man loves his tea.

What's in the bag this time? Well it's Mariage Freres. One of the best tea purveyors in the world. This could be tea nirvana. Britain might make the best cup of tea, but Mariage Freres is were you get the tea to make it. You have to give it respect when this is the place where Claridge's of London gets its tea. In fact Mariage Freres has a book on the French Art of Tea.

Their long tradition in the tea trade goes back to the Mariage family's travels in the 1600's on behalf of Louis XIV to sign a trade agreement with the Shah of Persia and also to explore Madagascar for the finest teas as well. A hundred and fifty years later, two brothers in the family, Henri and Edouard Mariage, began to import and sell the finest teas as pre-eminent wholesale merchant to exclusive retailers, tea rooms and hotels. It wasn't until the 1980's that the company began selling directly to the public.

How better to get a sense of princely destiny than with having a cup of tea that once the Shah of Persia would have had, while reading Authurian legend in The Once and Future King? And if it involves two of your passions even better.

While it was not on Jake's workout schedule you know that tea time is definitely observed on the Prince of Persia set. Makes you wonder if Jake brought his favorite over or if he has been looking for additional sets during shooting.

Jake looks like a tea drinker, you can picture him into the ritual of making "the perfect cup" or should I say "cuppa"? Putting the kettle on, getting the tea ready, warming the teapot, adding the tea leaves, adding the boiling water (if black tea of course) and precisely knowing how long to steep it, having the perfect china cup to drink it from, and finally enjoying it. Austin may like tea, but bet he sits and watches, finding the whole the tea maker making it even more fascinating.

Now if you put Jake and tea and Austin together you either get tea for two or you get this guy. Here's the funny part, he was a Disney star before Jake.

Now Audience Participation Time: Any movie suggestions for this month's movie club?

Do we want to do something with a holiday theme to get us in the mood?

A favorite Thanksgiving one - Home for the Holidays directed by Jodie Foster. Robert Downey Jr., Holly Hunter, Anne Bancroft, Charles Durning, yes total dysfunctional family, but a real snapshot.

Or Gurinder Chadra's "What's Cooking?" looking at families celebrating Thanksgiving in their own ways. Or maybe just skip past all that and go straight for Christmas, a favorite that you'd like to share with everyone?

Any and all movie suggestions are welcome today and tomorrow.

We'll pick over the weekend with the poll open Sat & Sunday.

Catch Jake from the set of Prince of Persia tonight on Entertainment Tonight, (check local listings for time and channel)

...I like the boys and the boys like me."

  1. Finally, something Jake and I have in common... a good cup of tea. Bring it on with a nicely pre-warmed pyrex teapot and a big old mug for sheer volume. A few Peak Frean Biscuits and we're all set.

    Cheers everyone.

  2. I've never heard of Mariage Freres. I'm going to check out their teas (if I can find them) for those cold winter days when I want a pot of tea.

I'm feeling kind of clueless on movie suggestions at the moment, particularly holiday ones.

  3. What a beautiful post - I'm relaxing just reading it. My favorite ways to relax as well - a good book and a good cup of tea. I'll give the movies some thought, but I like the idea of something food-oriented for the holidays. I'll definitely check out Jake on ET tonight. Great song. :)

  4. Clicked on the link. The kid's name's Jake T. Austin and he's on Disney? Where you do find this stuff? How does your mind work?

  5. ((((Frenchy)))))) so good to hear from you.......I have missed you!!

  6. Jake got a proper english tea set as a birthday gift not that long ago. Wind chimes, cashmere socks and a tea set. A straight guys dream.

I didnt realize Jodie Foster directed Home for the Holidays. Robert Downey Jr is a hoot in that film. I dont have any suggestions at the moment but will give it some thought. I'm still reeling a bit over the events of the last few days - Obama and prop 8.

  7. Frenchy!!!! MWAH!

    How does your mind work?

You are a very brave person to ask Spesh how her mind works! I have been scared to ask but I kind of want to know.

I really like Home for the Holidays. RDJ plays a gay character.

  8. I'm thinking if BT gets Nichols last name then BT is probably JG biological child. Sounds fair doesn't it? If trheres a BT2 later maybe it would be Nichols biological child but for now I'd bet the name/genes is equal tradeoff. Dunno about mixing the baby batter..would a doctor allow it or would it be possible [ph levels, acidic environment, all the scientififc stuff].

BT names..does anyone know Austins favorite books? Jake's is Kill a Mockingbird. Maybe BT is named Callie [Calpurnia], Jem, Harper, Lee, Dill, Arthur, or Scout.

Movie idea. What about Fanily Stone? It's at the holidays, the white gay son [who's hearing impaired] brings his black partner [who can hear and also signs] and they announce they're adopting a child together. It isn't the main plot but it has some interesting conversations at the dinner table about it.

I love tea. Hot cold iced lukewarm, teabags teaballs or loose. Plain or witth sugar or cream. Having a big mug of it right now!

"shaking head' maybe we best not know LOL.

  9. I think they would use Nichols as the last name regardless of whose child it is biologically because it is such a common name and easier to hide BT. And I would think they would consider the child "theirs" regardless of the name and biologoy.

  12. Agree Destiny at 12.46. That's what Ted said when he first started about BT. Ted is on fire! seems to be really going after J&R specially R. Wonder why.
As for being unpopular in college, I have read that before ages ago somewhere.....wonder if he was a lonely kid despite all the fame & wealth.
FYI, I couldn't believe Ted said that ! heeee.

  13. Watched Ted. So how much footage did Ted go through to find a picture of Reese standing in front of the picture of the witch from the musical Wicked.

  14. More talk about Jake and Matt for leads in Torso. There are two best parts. The Narrator that leads through the story and Eliot Ness.

"Could the square-jawed Damon be Ness then? Could Gyllenhaal be reprising his “Zodiac” fascination with the hunt for a serial killer as the story’s narrator? “Some of those rumors are true,” Mechanic said, “and some of those rumors are not true. But there are major people waiting to come aboard.”

MTV: Torso and Jake and Matt Damon rumors.

  15. Some interesting comments about Austin on 411mania.com

"Austin Nichols is using his One Tree Hill stint to prove he is a charismatic TV presence who could easily handle a series lead. No Butchie instead…Speaking of One Tree Hill, I was slightly disappointed with the scene where Lucas asks Dan about shooting Keith; not that either actor didn't do a good job but rather because I think that conversation could have been the focus of an entire episode. Am I completely out of line in thinking that Dan Scott would make a list of the top 100 TV characters of the last 10 years? Certainly the top 50 villains of that same era, right?..."

  16. ^^That was a good scene - I have to catch up on the background of OTH.

  17. So how much footage did Ted go through to find a picture of Reese standing in front of the picture of the witch from the musical Wicked.

I had nothing to do with it!

  18. Between Wicked and her smells and me and the Reese doll we should have Reeke done with in no time. *puts another pin in*

  19. SPELLS Wicked's SPELLS. [sorry..LOL]

  20. Not that Jake would only drink tea with his Texan. Forget the Stella Artois. It's Boone's Farm, Thunderbird, Gatorade and Everclear, Wild Turkey. woo hoo!

"Business Meetings"? Jake's just hitting the hard stuff to deal. Yeah that's right. General Food International Coffees. French Vanilla Cafe.

  21. Moonshine! Texas Tea. Texas Wine. Wild Turkey. Grey Goose. Probably no Southern Comfort tho. LOL

  22. Was Jake/Pop on Entertainment Tonight? Btw I just saw interview with Michelle Obama..she looks like a Black Reese Witherspoon ..OMG.

  23. Christmas movies.

    Holiday Inn

    White Christmas

and of course what would the holidays be with

    Christmas Story

    "You'll shoot your eye out"

    Fra-gee-lay. That must be Italian.
Uh, I think that says FRAGILE, dear.
    Oh, yeah.

    and my favorite line

    "Bumpuses!"

Yes I am back to the puppy cam again.

  24. No Jake tonight on Entertainment Tonight.

  25. I've lost count of how many times I've seen Christmas Story. I love that movie, but I'm not sure there would be a lot to discuss.

  26. Well, Austin is a charasmatic presence capable of carrying a series. That was evident even from a bit part in Six Feet Under. JFC's failure had nothing to do with him. If this is what he needs to get his own series, then more power to him.

Ted is merciless. Going for Reeke with a vengence.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Lol, good ... you get the prize for most stupid comment of the day!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Sorry m, but you are capable of carrying a serie when you actually manage to get people to see the serie, not when a couple of fungirls say so. This applies to Jake and his supposed A-list status as well. I think both guys have quite some work to do to reach their supposed goals.

  29. national enquirer said...
While waiting for a train to take me to D.C, I was out the Universal News outlet in the station and started rifling through the National Enquirer for kicks when LO and BEHOLD, there's a story there about Jake and Reese. Supposedly (according to NE), Jake has pulled the plug on Reese's marriage plans--telling her it's off now and in the future--the reason being--he's deeply upset about his parents getting a divorce. Reese wants a commitment and doesn't want to wait around forever.

    more national enquirer said...

Also, the National Enquirer says that the reason why Jake flew into LA last week (or two weeks ago--whenever it was) during a break in filming was to break the news to Reese and
    tell her it was off.

  30. No wonder he was all smiles on the return to Heathrow!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yeah he was glad he came out alive

  32. Did anyone ever tell Jake he was engaged? LOL

  33. Oh it's just another cliff-hanging chapter in the whole fake story ... I expect MUCH more Reeke in the run-up to Four Christmases.

    Nice tea post :)

  34. Dear Ted:
Is Stud Bucket LaBeouf Ben Affleck, and Toothy Tile Aaron Eckhart?
    —S

    Dear Double Whammy:
Stud is a current superstar. Eckhart is close with T.T., but not the answer.

    Dear Ted:
Love the new yellow background You rock! Tell me, is Toothy Tile Mathew Broderick?
    —Bored in Canada

    Dear Age Inappropriate:
Big e-kiss, doll-face, thanks. And no, M.B. is older and far doughier than our fave closeted star.

  35. I don't see a breakup now either. After all, he wants the world to know that Reese's kids mean more to him than his own rumoured child, so he's not going to "break" Deacon's heart by breaking up the fauxmance on his birthday.
