So here's the challenge for OMG this Valentine's Day. Can you tell Jake & Austin's or even Toothy's & Goose's in just six?
Here's a little more inspiration.
And if you are so moved, tell your own love story in six.
C.S. Lewis said there are four kinds of love : storge (affection), philia (friendship), eros (carnal love), agape (unconditional love for others) - so on a day about love, celebrate all the ways we love and all the people we love and love us. And not just today but everyday.
And to Wicked and her Mrs. who's home is filled with love, thanks for the six word challenge.
Happy Valentine's Day!

ReplyDeleteI shamelessly stole this from Neruda: En un beso, sabrás todo lo que he callado.
Ahem. Eros is not romantic love, it is carnal.

Happy Valentine's Day.
ReplyDeleteLove is a fire that burns unseen,
ReplyDeletea wound that aches yet isn’t felt,
an always discontent contentment,
a pain that rages without hurting,
a longing for nothing but to long,
a loneliness in the midst of people,
a never feeling pleased when pleased,
a passion that gains when lost in thought.
It’s being enslaved of your own free will;
it’s counting your defeat a victory;
it’s staying loyal to your killer.
But if it’s so self-contradictory,
how can Love, when Love chooses,
bring human hearts into sympathy?

ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine's Day to my friends at OMG! Thanks to Maria for that beautiful poem. That's the second one I've read today. I read another one from an online friend on LJ entitled "This Love" by Jacques Prevert. It is unforgettable and it will bring to mind all the contrasting feelings that love can bring.
ReplyDeleteI am not in love at the present time, but I love alot of people. I have been in love just twice in my life & even though both people are not even in my life anymore, I wouldn't have traded all of that bliss & anguish for nothin'. I've been infatuated & crushing tons of times and even those events don't come along every day. I miss that electrical charge you get when you see that person. There is nothing like it. I look forward to the next time and in the meantime, I just love on who I can & who will let me, lol!
Uh, I don't have six words yet. Heck, I can't ever have a six word sentence ever, didn't you know that, Special? I'll have to think on it. I have lots of words coming to mind already, tho. Just need to pick the right ones.
Hey, here's a riot moment from The Brady Bunch. Just saw this episode. Greg is talking to Mrs. Brady, along with a couple other siblings and he tells his mom that "Bobby is being, well, a real stinker." And Mrs. Brady says, "Now, Greg. You know I don't like that word."
LOLLLLL!!! Ah dog, that just killed me. It killed me. You know I don't like that word.
Makes me think of " Mom always says don't play ball in the house."
Isn't that stuff just classic?
Destiny, you puzzled me with your comment from yesterday about having mixed feelings about Valentine's Day. I think that's what you said. I'd open up yesterday's post again to verify, but I'll lose this comment if I do. It was a very mysterious comment; had me intrigued.
Well, think I've gone on long enough. Hope everyone is having a great Saturday and Heart's Day.
"Longed for him. Got him. Shit."

Wicked that one is the best!
Hey, Prairiegirl...I was watching TV Land's Brady Bunch marathon, just for some '70's nostalgia, and was in hysterics as well. To think we actually thought their clothes were cool...fact is, they were able to pick their own wardrobes, this from Barry Williams' book.
ReplyDeleteI have mixed feelings about the holiday because it's such a commercial holiday. There are years when I feel like me and my gf do something only out of some kind of guilt and/or feeling like losers if we don't. Then there is the emphasis on couples when so many of my friends and people in my family are single, not to mention it feels like something you're not supposed to celebrate in groups. But hey, those are just my own hang-ups and perception of the holiday.
ReplyDeleteAlong those lines, I always roll my eyes at those jewelry store commercials because they always show the same (imo) tacky gold hearts, etc. Today there was an opinion piece in the NYT talking about that, and also how choosing something that is perhaps quirkier and cheaper often means more. The first thing I thought of when I read it was Austin's blue ring.
From My SIde of the Counter
I have seven words, not six, one of my favorite lines from U2:
We're one, but we're not the same
My girlfriend has a picture of herself with her siblings and parents that she calls their Brady Bunch photo, the clothes they're all wearing are so 7os and so ugly.
ReplyDeleteTo think that Robert Reed (The Ward Cleaver of the '70s) was very actively gay, and sad to remember that we lost him to AIDS :(

ReplyDeleteBS. That's what we're doing. And we got something for Pop and Mikel but not each other. You can do whatever you want.

ReplyDeleteIsn't that funny, E.V.TB? And then they showed the classic "The New Jan Brady!" episode with her dark wig. A young Marcia Wallace playing the wig boutique clerk. And the classic Greg Brady episode where he wants privacy and his own room. Mr. Brady gives up his den and Greg comes in to breakfast, greeting "Good morning, Mike. Good morning, Carol."
ReplyDeleteDestiny, I was at Target last night and in the front section of the store where they have lamps and photo frames, they had a new display of home decorator items. They were right out of the 70's, in that pale aqua/goldish yellow/brown combination of colors, swirls & circles & dots & stripes. Oh man, it was awful!! lol
I said "You have got to be kidding me." What a hoot. Just like Greg Brady coming down the stairs in his striped jeans & brown suede, fringed vest, and "shades". When I was little, I used to have this red fake leather vest with fringe all around the bottom. Man, I thought I was the cat's meow in that thing & wore it to death. LOLLLL! snicker! What a scream.
I grinned as soon as I started reading your explanation of your Valentine's Day feeling. "That's our feisty lil' Destiny!" I thought. I hear ya. Other than Christmas, Valentine's probably is one of the most pressured holidays to buy something or try to come up with something really special. I just kind of roll with it, I guess. Love to decorate for it, tho, with all the bright reds & pinks. Next, it'll be St. Paddy's and bringing out all the green stuff. Green's a great color to decorate with.
Love this song and video.

Jake Gyllenhaal whisks Reese Witherspoon away to Egypt amid engagement rumours
ReplyDeleteWhile Reese Witherspoon no doubt enjoyed a Valentine's gift or two from Jake Gyllenhaal, the Hollywood actress can look forward to an even more romantic treat. Mandrake hears that the couple, who did not confirm that they were a couple until November, are to be taken on a romantic holiday to Egypt amid rumours that Gyllenhaal may be planning to propose.
"I was asked to organise the trip for Reese Witherspoon and her boyfriend," said Geoffrey Kent, the founder of Abercrombie & Kent, at the opening of the company's private travel office at Harrods. "They will go everywhere by private jet and cram as much as possible in. That means Luxor, the Pyramids and possibly a private viewing of the newly discovered Saqqara mummy. They are going to stay in the best hotels and the idea is that it will be quite an experience."
Telegraph UK
"I was asked to organise the trip for Reese Witherspoon and her boyfriend,"
ReplyDelete1. "boyfriend" whoever that is
2. it sounds like the trip was Reese's idea and she did the paying
Ian & Mandrake in cahoots, or one and the same??
ReplyDelete"whisked away" LOL Jake, take our advice, whisk her off the side of a tall pyramid why don't you. If anyone asks just say she was so tiny! you thought you were kicking a bug.
ReplyDeleteGood PR story all around. If we don't see pics, then it implies to the People/OK/Babblers the Reeke trip was an ultra private romantic experience. But no pics/evidence could also mean that Jake and Reese each spent time/went somewhere separately to be with whoever they want to be with.
But if there are pics who's to say they were taken around now? And who's to say there wans't a tall Texan there.
It really puts pressure on the Kent guy if pics of Jake, Reese or Reeke show up of them being anywhere else.
Whatever, Reese showing up next week with a ring on her finger wouldn't be a surprise after Ian. All part of the pathetic homophobic Reeke show.
The world is their own private Disneyland?
ReplyDeleteDo I want the 90 pound midget who's a controlling bitch or should I get the nice gay stud who weighs 200?
ReplyDeleteLast week half-true Reeke story was used for real estate marketing. This week Reeke is used for travel agency marketing.
ReplyDeleteHow would a travel agent know what Reeke is going to talk about/dicuss on their trip?
ReplyDeleteThat added bit about the "engagement" is such utter nonsense it's gone beyond silly and right up absurd.
Such a private couple telling the world exactly what their iteniary will be. And how is this not whoring yourself out for the publicity?
Do people REALLY believe this kind a drek? Really?
"I was asked to organise the trip for Reese Witherspoon and her boyfriend," said Geoffrey Kent, the founder of Abercrombie & Kent, at the opening of the company's private travel office at Harrods.
ReplyDeleteWhat a coincidence. A newly opened company that needs attention to get costumers just happened to be the one "entrusted" with this little trip.
Why exactly would Jake - who has been back from London since December - book this trip in the UK? Surely there would be agencies in the US where he could book it with a lot less effort.
This new office must have made quite an impression on him when he was last there in London - you know, when it hadn't even opened yet.
Isn't the Telegraph also the source for all the Reeke buying a house in London stories?
I think in this case Reeke PR wasn't the one putting this out there, it was the agency trying to get themselves noticed. And everybody with two brain-cells knows that Reeke would never deny a story like this so they're an obvious choice.
That's not to say that PR isn't going to be happy about it.
Especially since Jake is probably still celebrating Valentine's Day with Austin in NY at this very moment.
Who love publicity more than Hollywood and who owns Harrod's where the travel agency is opening? Mohamed al-Fayed
ReplyDelete1. Stubborn tb A&K has offices all over. Sounds like the Kent guy was providing the "info" in a press release/interview when he was at the debut of the office in Harrods. Makes it sound good.
ReplyDelete2. Nowhere in the story does it say when the trip is/was taken. The start of it leads you to assume its for valentines but thats from the writers hook to pull the reader in. Could be "scheduled" for anytime. Canceled, too.
3. I must have missed when and how exactly the concrete "confirmation of coupledom" last November. Oh thats right, saying someone is supportive of you means true love and hot sex. Wonder if my support staff at work knows this.
4. "Reese Witherspoon and her boyfriend". Funny how no one like Vogue and this guy Kent can say the names of both people. Kinda leaves it fuzzy just the way Reeke likes it.
5. Rumors that Jake's gonna propose. Again? This must make it the 5th time, right? I thot the last we heard Jake was waiting for Reese to propose. No...... wait, I take that back.. Wasn't the proposing and the "yes" answer already a done deal, since a wedding was planned for December around Jake's birthday but then with his parents getting divorced he wanted to postpone it until summer 2009? So if they're already planning on getting married in 4 or 5 months, tell me again why they're taking a trip to Egypt so he can propose?
Arriving in LAX Feb 13
ReplyDeleteLooks tired/sad/something.
ReplyDeleteOf course we all knew there'd be *something* put out there today. Can't let the holiest of days slip by without the world's most loved-up couple sprawling all over it. Sorry, but they really are so painfully obvious and lame. They're no better than Heidi and Spencer half the time, except with less ridiculous pictures. At least Speidi seem to be in on the joke, whereas Reeke is SRS BZN.
ReplyDeleteThe Egypt trip really does sound like a joint PR venture. Blah, so distasteful.
A camel would the only hump Reese would get on that trip.
ReplyDeleteMohamed al-Fayed.
ReplyDeleteSharp Sharp Spesh. And Mohamed is Egyptian by birth. Coincidence?
Happy Valentines day all. I decided to give my own husband some attention today so am here late. Just saw the new pics on IHJ. The coat Jake is wearing now has black lining, not red, so maybe he was wearing a special someone's coat afterall.
ReplyDeleteThat Egypt story sounds totally PR driven. Are they taking a team of paps along to chronicle their trip for future Disney POP filmgoers?
Tom, I am so jealous you got to see Rufus up close. He is really handsome and I love his personality.
ReplyDeleteThat's cool Wicked about recognizing some of the couples from your Church. I wondered if you'd know the performer since he is D.C.-based, didn't expect you to know some of the people in the video.

ReplyDeleteThe Rufus concert was great. He performed with his sister Martha whos voice reminded me very much of Stevie Nicks. The concert was a sell out at the Kimell Center in Philadelphia. It lasted almost three hours. No Jake to be found. Sounds like he had orders to get home for Valentines with the general. I hope he had a great time in NYC. At least Jake didnt bring his goldie locks lie to upstage his sister this past week.
I have a feeling Maggie has most of the scruples in the G family for now. Hopefully Jake will get his back soon.
I was standing in the Kimmell Center lobby tonight with my friend Joe picking up our tickets when I saw these people walk right in the front door. I reckonized Rufus pretty quickly caught his eye waved and he smiled right at me. He is quite handsome.
I hope everyone had a great valentines day.
Hey Spesh! PITCHERS and CATCHERS.
Egypt is a perfect match for Reeke isn't it. Consider this:
ReplyDeleteThe bearding is set up like a pyramid scheme. An initial large investment from TPTB, a flimsy or non-existent product, and a highly detailed and perfected glossy sales pitch. It sounds good, people eat it up and it trickles down to the lowest masses. The only ones who reap the big profits are TPTB. And in a pyramid, if you want to get to the bottom of it there's mazes designed to confuse you, mysterious guards and lots and lots of hieroglyphics.
The landscape that surrounds and supports the pyramid is a "relationship" that's shiftier than sand and just as dry and dead, with no solid definition or visible life form within. Them going to Egypt is perfect. Pyramids, death and offering treasures to the gods in hope of a better future life, that's bearding and Reeke.
Glad you had a good time Tom. I always have a good time at his concerts. And isn't it wonderful to see someone like that who isn't ashamed to be seen with his boyfriend, even if it means he sells a few less records? Rufus has won a lot of fans and respect and has built himself a successful career without resorting to lies.
ReplyDeleteAnd isn't it wonderful to see someone who is happy and glowing with love for his boyfriend the way Rufus does? Quite a contrast to Jake running back to L.A. with his tail between his legs for V-Day.
At least Jake got to see me. I really had to talk them out of opening Uncle Vanya on the 14th because it would have broken my heart to have Jake put his bitch, I mean beard, first. I don't know why that sweet boy Austin puts up with it. Heaven knows there are days when I would like to kick my own brother to the curb.

I would have reported in for V Day, but like Destiny I absolutely hate it (V Day, not Destiny).
Lucky you, Tom! I love Rufus - and think he is very handsome :)
Pap challenge: you made it to Tate Modern! You made it to a Mexican airport! Now let's see you at the Temple of the Kings for the proposal :D Too absurd.
I dunno london, I really don't wanna leave my coveted celeb hangout pig farm to run off to some stupid Temple of the Kings.
ReplyDeleteI'd go to Egypt. Gettin tired taking pics of shop doors and Myla bags.
ReplyDelete:D :D :D @ paps.
ReplyDelete& blogger back, yay!
Anythings better than having your twofaced clients laugh at you while you're getting pelted with eggs. What time's the flight?
ReplyDeleteI hope that everyone had a really nice Valentine's Day! Mine was pretty quiet. I guess the next set of photos will be from the Great Sphinx and the tombs!! I agree with Prairie Girl-this really does get tiresome all the time!! All I can about Jake is if he lets
ReplyDeleteAustin go completely, he is a FOOL!
But who knows-Austin may one day on
his own get fed up and LEAVE! I think that the whole thing has got
to be a regular show! Anyway, to be
nice, I wish Jake the very best in
his personal life and career!!

Since you don't credit an author I assume you wrote the second 6 word story. Trying to one-up Hemingway. Your arrogance knows no bounds, Rattler.
Destiny at the concert last night Rufus spoke about his BF several times. He sang a song for him for Valentines Day.
ReplyDeleteIn one of songs last night Rufus sang I am so tired of Homophobia and Im so tired of California. That got a huge ovation.
When I went last night I expected to see more gay men than I have ever seen in my life. I was big time wrong. The crowd was so diverse. All ages. Gay men and women. Straight couples. Fangirls(Yep spoke to one she is a Rufus groupie). She told me that she didnt have a date for Valentines so she came to see Rufus. There is actually a group of women who have followed him through this whole tour. They give him a scarf after each concert. He wore all the scarfs made in too this long ass thing which he wore while he came back for his encore.
There was also open effection between str8 couples and gay couples during the show. It was awesome to see. Nothing over the top but just normal things that you see all str8 couples do in public.
Your arrogance knows no bounds, Rattler.
ReplyDeleteDon't you see the obvious? My positive outlook inspired by Hemingway's short story effectively one-upped the negative thoughts evoked by the same story in your mind. Hemingway has nothing to do with this.
You want to deny.
You are the arrogant one!
BTW, Special K has spare rosy-colored glasses. I am sure she will not mind sharing one with you.
