Out Spotlight LXV

Alvin Ailey, Jr was an African-American choreographer and activist who founded the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in New York Theater. Ailey is largely credited with popularizing modern dance and revolutionizing African-American participation in 20th century concert dance. It is theorized that Ailey's choreographic masterpiece Revelations is the most well-known and frequently seen modern dance performance.

Born into poverty in Rogers, Texas, on January 5, 1931 to a 17 yr old mother, and was abandoned by his father when he was 6 months old. Ailey grew up during a period of racial segregation and rumors of violence and lynchings against African-Americans. The rape of his mother by white men when he was five made him fearful of whites. His early experiences in the Southern Baptist church and juke joints instilled in him a fierce sense of black pride and would go on to figure prominently in Ailey's signature works. He moved with his mother to Los Angeles at the age of twelve and was introduced to dance by performances of the Katherine Dunham Dance Company and the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo. His formal training in dance began with an introduction to Lester Horton's classes by his friend, Carmen de Lavallade.

Inspired by performances of the Katherine Dunham Dance Company and classes with Lester Horton, he began his formal dance training. It was with Horton, the founder of the first racially integrated dance company in this country, that Ailey embarked on his professional dance career.

After Horton's death in 1953, Ailey became the director of the Lester Horton Dance Theater and began to choreograph his own works. In 1954, he and his friend Carmen de Lavallade were invited to New York to dance in the Broadway show, House of Flowers by Truman Capote. In New York, Ailey studied with many outstanding dance artists, including Martha Graham, Doris Humphrey and Charles Weidman and took acting classes with Stella Adler. The versatile Ailey won a number of acting roles, continued to choreograph and performed as a dancer.

He formed his own group, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, in 1957 which presented its inaugural concert on March 30, 1958. Works of note presented at this time include Blues Suite, a work deriving from blues songs. Ailey's choreography was a dynamic and vibrant mix of his previous training in ballet, modern dance, jazz, and African dance techniques. Ailey also insisted upon a complete theatricality including costumes, lighting and make-up. A work of intense emotional appeal expressing the pain and anger of African Americans, Blues Suite was an instant success and defined Ailey's style.

For his signature work, Revelations, he drew upon his "blood memories" of Texas, the blues, spirituals, and gospel as inspiration, which resulted in the creation of his most popular and critically acclaimed work. Ailey originally intended for the dance to be the second part of a larger, evening-length survey of African-American music which he began with Blues Suite.

He created 79 works for his company, Ailey maintained that his company was not repository for his own work. Today, the company continues Mr. Ailey's vision by performing important works from the past and commissioning new ones to add to the repertoire. In all, More than 200 works by over 70 choreographers have been performed by the Company.

Ailey took pride in the fact that his company was multi-racial. While, he wanted to give black dancers, who were frequently discriminated against by the racist attitudes of his contemporaries, an opportunity to dance; at the same time, he also wanted to rise above issues of negritude. His company always employed artists based solely on artistic talent and integrity regardless of their race

In 1962 the U.S. State Department sponsored The Alvin Ailey Dance Company's first overseas tour. Ailey was suspicious of his company's benefactors motives. He questioned whether their motives were propagandistic, seeking to display a distorted attitude of tolerance by showcasing a modern Negro dance group. He retired from the stage in 1965 to devote himself to the company.

In 1970, Ailey was honored by being commissioned to create The River for American Ballet Theatre. The River used the music of Duke Ellington. Ailey viewed this as a chance to work with some of the best ballet dancers in the world, particularly with the great dramatic ballerina Sallie Wilson. ABT, however, insisted that the leading male role be danced by the only black man, despite Ailey and other contemporaries misgivings about said dancer's talent.

Cry (1971), was one of Ailey's greatest successes. He dedicated to his mother and black women everywhere. It became a signature piece for Judith Jamison.

He received the Kennedy Center Honors in 1988.

Ailey kept his life as a dancer a secret from his mother for the first two years. When she came to his dressing room and saw him in stage makeup for the first time, she slapped him in the face.

Alvin Ailey died of AIDS in 1989 at the age of 58. To spare his mother the social stigma of his death of AIDS, Ailey asked his doctor to announce that he had died of terminal blood Dyscrasia.

  1. Wicked, you know anything about Persian music or Disney? What your guess?

Persian music is something I don't know a lot about and Disney is something I try to avoid, so I have no guess.

Who cares why the biking pics showed up.

    I do.

Was Alvin Ailey out? I've seen his dance company a few times and they are wonderful.

  2. Thanks for the great spotlight Special. Ive always wanted to know more about Alvin Ailey and how he got started. I heard he was out to friends but that was about it as far as his personal life.

  3. Whoa someone got up very early today. Didnt expect to see an update this early.

Again a great Spotlight Spesh. You certainly do find very interesting people. The dance photo is amazing.

  4. Hi all,

Another amazing person to include in our Out Spotlights. Alvin Ailey certainly has done a lot for the art of dance, with his great creativity and inspiration of the stories of his & others' life experiences to dance and music, which is what art truly is IMO. Thanks, it's another gorgeous almost Spring day out there too. The dance photo is incredible.

  5. ^^but also have the vision to look beyond racial issues and look ahead, where art could just be art, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation.

PG, just read over the previous thread, and Rocky Mountain High is my very, very favorite John Denver song, ever. Has special meaning for me. :)

    Enjoy your Sunday, everyone!

  6. Hi everyone

I don't know for you but the weather here is dark and depressing!
    Fortunately OMG is my sunshine!

Thanks Special K for this out spotlight, that really interest me since I am passionated by dance univers and specially modern Dance!
In France, it starts to find his public even if people are still attached to a certain classicism, we have an "old mind" I think lol. BUT we had and are good choregraphers of dance modern nontheless , Maurice Bejart, recently died, was the most famous , and was PROUDLY out too.
I think I can thank "West side Story" because it's was the beginning of my love for dance. So Thanks America!
I am going to document myself about Alvin Ailey right now!!

Oh and for POP music, I don't know ,maybe kind of Laurence of Araby lol with symphonic Orchestra
but a bit too "old" Hollywood!

  7. Wicked I agree with you. I also care why the biking pictures showed up. I also care why these PoP photos were released. I feel that the change is good. What I am hoping is that Jake has decided to become himself and to make his own decisions. If they are just a change in PR tactics and Jake has decided to reach back to the fans that supported him then I can live with it as long as reeke is over. No more lies. No more bearding. I cant support either.

  8. Talking about POP pics , seemingly something is not clear with it.

I read they were pulled from jj and on ONTD the post was locked.
They credited IHJ but IHJ got the pics from a poster from Belgium, a girl with a Jake site !!! And some think the pics weren't authorised by Disney!!
    Odd affair!!!!
Like we say here " je mène l'enquête"lol

  9. They would have stayed out there if the response had been positive. Someone who is working on the promotional materials could have stolen them but to send them to a fansite for free?? That doesn't make any sense.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Disney is fanatical about their copyright. The Disney Corp. has sued daycare centers in Florida because they had Mickey, Minnie, etc. painted on the side of the building and didn't get permission from Disney first. There is no way that promo pics were "accidently released" or "stolen" by someone involved in the movie. If the pics were released it was done with Disney and Bruckheimer OKing it. The pics may have been pulled because the comments on JJ and ONTD were brutal. The majority of comments were that Jake look bad, gay, not Persian and that they made it look like the movie sucks. Bruckheimer has been trying to stir interest in POP for a while and he probably thought this would create more interest. The plan must have backfired and Disney probably had the pics pulled.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Looks like Stephanie at IHJ asked the girl from this belgium site for permission to copy, and then changed it to jpegs and put the IHJ tags on.

On ONTD the pics are still here and other blogs have the pics too!!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Does anyone think that Jake may have had these photos released on his own? Would he take that chance?

Could he have pulled this Off with the help of Matthew Frost?

Could this have been the photo shoot schedule that had Jakes name on it? How easily could this set have been put together? The board said Jake 2. Who is the guy in the back of the second photo?

I think these photos were taken after Jake got back from London.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Does anyone think that Jake may have had these photos released on his own?

    No.
    1. Jake signed a contract with Disney and there is no reason for him to do it
    2. these pictures are bad PoP marketing.

    ReplyDelete
  14. If Disney did do it then why are they still on IHJ, Huffington poast and other sites? The comments aren't great there either.

IMO JJ pulled them just in case since he realized they weren't officially Disney pics, you can tell. It even looks like a production perso is working in the background in one.

ONTD locked it so casual viewers like Disney suits can't view them and make them take it down and so it won't show up on google.

The cat is out the bag so it's doesn't make sense to tell ihj to remove them but the original source of the pics, that girl from Belgium with the Jake blog, i bet a friend of hers or maybe one of her parents took the pic while working on it.

    ReplyDelete

If they have people check in their cell phone cameras at some HW weddings & whatnot these days, though, wouldn't you think there'd be requirements for any employee of PoP to not take their own pictures or use professional stills w/o Disney consent? This would be a huge blunder by an employee to give these photos to their daughter for her to use on her blog. I don't know that I can imagine this happening, not with a movie that I'm sure had a big budget. Regardless, I'm sorry if the reaction has been overwhelmingly negative. I don't want to see his movie panned.

    Good morning, by the way!

Hey there, flf, I was going to look back because I didn't think I remembered seeing you for a little while.

I am glad to see all the closet John Denver fans. I tell you what was good entertainment and that was his Christmas special with the Muppets. It's not available on dvd and people wonder why it's not. I have it on VHS and it's great.

  16. Elinor, I've not seen West Side Story, but there's a song from that which I love. "One Heart, One Hand" or something like that. I heard it sung on American Idol (I know, I know...) and had no idea that's where it was from. What a beautiful song.

Guys, I know this is off topic and it's not J&A related, but it's extremely fascinating. And it does lend insight into how damage control & PR look at things. I read it this morning on CNN.com and it's in regards to Chris Brown/Rihanna, a story that I have found mindboggling & interesting because 1)domestic abuse, 2)Rihanna is a currently huge pop star & Chris Brown is very well known himself, and 3) I liked some of Chris' songs myself and now find them a little tainted & that is so disappointing. But this article is by Lisa Respers France. I'm just mentioning the PR aspect of it:

As details about an alleged assault of Rihanna by her boyfriend, Chris Brown, emerged, fans and the entertainment industry grappled with what it could mean for the future of the young star's career.
Authorities charged Brown, 19, on Thursday with felony counts of assault and making criminal threats, the Los Angeles County, California, District Attorney's Office said. If convicted, the sentence could range from probation to four years and eight months in prison, officials said.

Twenty-one-year-old Rihanna was allegedly attacked by Brown on a Los Angeles street before their scheduled performances at the Grammy Awards on February 8. Message boards across the Internet were abuzz with reaction after the sworn statement by Los Angeles Police Detective DeShon Andrews surfaced. The statement painted a brutal picture of what allegedly happened in the early morning hours of February 8

Emil Wilbekin, editor-in-chief of GIANT Magazine, said some readers were expressing outrage at Brown's alleged actions on postings at the GIANT Web site, writing that they hope Brown gets jail time and that justice is served.
"In Chris Brown's case, there are two things going on," Wilbekin said. "The first is that Chris is such a clean-cut young man and so this is a very shocking turn of events, because it's completely against what we know of his entertainment persona."
"The second part is that both [Rihanna and Brown] have very young female fans."

His good looks and athletic dance moves quickly rocketed him to teen idol status and he solidified that reputation with a successful follow-up album, movie and TV appearances and a Grammy nominated duet with "American Idol" winner Jordan Sparks.
Stories of troubled singers are nothing new to the entertainment industry. Many artists, including Whitney Houston and Britney Spears, have been able to survive the negative press and emerge with many fans still intact. But industry insiders like Wilbekin point out that there is a marked difference between self-destructive behavior and allegedly causing harm to another person.

Even though Brown issued a brief apology for the incident, Wilbekin said he believes the entertainer has been hurt by the silence emanating from his camp. "He still has not made [an extensive] statement to the public, and particularly because a lot of his fans are young women, that's not going to go over well," Wilbekin said. "I think the fact that he's not come clean about it, which I understand for legal reasons, is an issue. Not saying anything at all is not helpful, especially not for his career."

Joann Killeen, president of Killeen Furtney Group, knows a bit about crisis communications -- her marketing and public relations firm initially represented California octuplet mom Nadya Suleman before later dropping her as a client -- and agrees that silence is not always golden.
Killeen said Brown's representatives may have erred by waiting a week before issuing a statement.
"By then everybody had an idea and a vision as to what happened," she said. "Unfortunately if you don't speak and frame the issue, state what happened, state the facts that you know, someone else is going to do it for you and you lose your position of being proactive and owning the story."

While she points out that America loves a comeback story -- like actor Robert Downey Jr., who was nominated for an Academy Award this year after multiple drug-related arrests in the past -- Killeen said the public can be much more forgiving about drug abuse than domestic violence.
"I think it's going to take a concerted effort on [Brown's] part to be very vocal about asking not only Rihanna for forgiveness, but he has to convince America that he's really going to work on resolving his anger issues and putting his life back together," Killeen said.

Despite the charges, some fans are vowing to take a wait-and-see approach.
"I'm sure there are people out there that feel betrayed," said twentysomething Brown fan Kadija White of Capital Heights, Maryland. "But there are probably some people like me who still are going to like his music."
However, Devi Dev, who does the entertainment segment on urban radio station 93.5 KDAY in Los Angeles, said listeners have been extremely vocal in their support for Rihanna and their sadness at the incident.
"A lot of the ladies are just like 'I feel so bad for her. Leave him girl, leave him' and the guys are being very defensive, saying women hit men, too," said Dev.

If Brown has any hope of surviving this, he is going to have to completely reinvent himself as an artist who appeals to older fans, Dev said.
"His fan base is teenage girls and the fact that he allegedly hit a young woman, his fan base is completely gone," she said. "No parent is going to want to support their child listening to his music or buying his music."

I have found this HW story very sad, though interesting. And having seen this article plus a couple others analyzing what this can do to Chris Brown's career made me realize the fragility of a HW or musical career. A celebrity's image & persona is a huge part of their career. That there are companies now that specialize alone in damage control says how important it is. I just find that really fascinating, I don't know why.

  17. More seriously ,no wonder the reactions given that the pics aren't well chosen!

    I mean it's a action movie.
We know Jake is beautiful and hot yes , but it look like they promote the last novel of Daniel Steel.
Of course that please some fangirls who drool over his muscular arms and chest hair , some gays cause the guy is frankly too homo erotic and others find him ridiculous what I perfectly understand!!

  18. PG - Howard Bragman, who we did an Out Spotlight on is one of the best in crisis management.

And there is crisis management for all kinds of things not just stars and musicians.

Fame is a fickle mistress, she lures you in, makes you do things that you never thought you would do, and then can turn and crush you in a minute.

  20. Watching Spiderman for a few minutes. And it got me thinking the trajectory of Jake's career if he had done it.

But then again - he would have never been able to do a movie like Brokeback if he had been a superhero first.

Maybe there are reasons the way things work they way they do.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Really sad Story Prairiegirl.
Yes public image does maybe 70 % of the career I think. Each action have their importance, a celebrity can be one day on top and down the day after.

Oh "West side story" is wonderful and the song you quoted is on of the best with "good night","maria" and "somewhere" but it's specially the choregraphy whish was totaly outstanding and has been plagiarized by many artists later.

I can talk about that hours and hours lol so I stop.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Oh yeah, I remember Howard Bragman; that one wasn't that long ago.

What kind of crisis management? You mean, for like natural disasters? Oh, you mean political figures, I bet, huh?

I didn't know Alvin Ailey, Jr. had passed away so long ago. That last picture is beautiful. And so sad about that stigma of AIDS and how he tried to shield his mom from any harshness. That breaks my heart.

I just saw a movie from Netflix called Leaving Metropolis. Interesting movie from 2002. Left me with a few questions. Has anyone seen it? I'd like to know what you thought about the ending.
It's about a pretty famous gay artist who develops an artistic block & goes to be a waiter in a couple's restaurant. The husband and the artist eventually begin an affair, etc etc. The artist's roommate is a cross dresser or a transgender? I'm confused on that front & don't know the difference. He's really gorgeous as a woman, though. Anyway, it was an interesting story and I wondered if it was supposed to take place in the 80's because of the prominance of AIDS in the story.

Also products, like Peanut butter right now in the US. Anyone or anything that has a public image can need crisis management.

  24. Oh, yeah, the peanut butter deal. That may have done in that company, hadn't it? That situation is still having rippling effects.

Just a couple more things before I head out for the day.

Almost forgot! Saw another snail today on my walk. That thing couldn't have been more than an inch long, but the details on those lil' guys is astounding. Their little antennae. That swirly thing on their back and their little bodies. He was just sitting there on the sidewalk; could've been squashed by anyone.

What I wonder about the Rihanna-Chris Brown situation is what will happen to Rihanna's career if she stays with him.

    ReplyDelete
  26. As usual, a very interesting spotlight. I always wondered about Ailey's background.

Just one more comment from me re the biking pics, other than that they are beautiful. I think Just Jared is largely a PR driven site. The fact that their blurb mentioned the boys have been buddies for 2 years is good. It is Jake and Austin letting us know that Austin has indeed been with Jake all along.

ONTD has a pic of Neal Patrick Harris and his boyfriend at a basketball game. I saw it while looking for the pop pics again. Could not help but notice that their upper bodies and legs are touching, just like Austin and Jake's were.

  27. Have just seen the Prince of Persia pics and I'm sorry to say that I'm really not buying them. They just look too cheesy and as others have said 'Danielle Steel'.

I actually expected some hideous Reeke engagement story to appear over the weekend (I suppose it still could, yikes!!!!) so Jake looking mildly ridiculous in a cod piece with greasy hair is some consolation.

Would love to have read the ONTD comments (I love the reactions to things on that site) but obviously have missed the boat on that one. Having spent the weekend eating the best seafood in Scotland is also a good consolation though.

  30. Very interesting Spotlight today. Another person whom I knew very little about. When I was younger I used to enjoy going to see dance, but I fell out of the habit and haven't gone to any performances in years. Too many things and too little time.

I agree with Wicked and Tom, I do want to know why we got the pictures. I could go on at length about all the possibilities, but I'll wait and see what happens next.

Interesting point M about the 2 years.

The Pop pictures are still up at Huffington Post. Maybe JJ took them down because he's friendly with pr and was asked and/or didn't want to ruffle any feathers??? I don't know that it was due to the reactions so much as Disney probably wanting to have control over how they roll out the pr for PoP. Sorry I missed the boat on ONTD too.

    ReplyDelete
  31. So much discussion about the reasons why we have the biking pics. I don't want to wonder, isn't it beautiful enough, let me just look at these two again and again , just that.

As for POP , really uneasy to know if the movie will be bad or good based on two pics. People complain to much " he is not right for the part, too white, greasy hair, not Persian enough bla bla....."lol, let him a chance.
I would like more news on Brothers and Nailed thought.

And right now I am going to bed!

    I agree Elinor.I totally agree.

I am sure that we will be hearing more about Brothers soon since it will be a Cannes. And there talk about about Nailed too.

Just have to see what I can find.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I have to admit for the first time in a while I feel bad for Jake. Sounds like the reaction to the pictures from PoP have been pretty darn negative. I dont think they are bad at all. No one knows yet what this movie is going to be like. One thing I know is that Bruckheimer is a very talented man. The movie is over a year away for crying out loud. People need to see more before they start critizing.

I am not sure Jake is ever gonna shake the gay image though. Not sure if that is because of BBM, Ted, or Jake. His relationship with reese has actually made things worse. Jake just needs to get back to being Jake and what worked for him. I think it is time for Jake to come out. I believe he will be respected beyond his own imagination. I think it is the right thing to do and the right time.

Well now I am really going to bed, after having comtemplated our love birds once again ( sometimes I wonder if I am not crazy, it's a sweet craziness no ?)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yes Elinor it is a sweet kind of obsessive craziness. I agree wholeheartedly. But we all got it.

Unbelieveable that the pics are being taking down from everywhere. I been trying to figure out why people have had such a neg reaction. Maybe Jake jsut looks out of place. To me Jake is kind of nerdy cute. Maybe not the Prince type. But look at Toby he was a huge hit as Spiderman. Does Toby come off as the Superhero type. It has been quite an interesting week.

    ReplyDelete
  37. A sweet craziness, yes. :)

I also agree with Tom - let's give it a chance.

    Goodnight!

  38. One thing I am sure of tonight is that reeke has been a disaster for Jake. It has ruined his image. It has done nothing but make Jake look awkward and out of place. I really believe Jake is well liked in HW. You can see it when people look at him and are in his company.
Jake and Disney need to realize real quickly that reeke has failed.
Time for both to move on before it gets worse. This week has been a good start. People know what is real and what is fake.

    ReplyDelete
  39. You're right Tom about Jake's image. That's why he should embrace his gay image and ambiguity, the way he did when he sang on SNL. I think that is one of the last times he did something that got him a lot of positive feedback on such a wide scale.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Tobey wasn't critized because Peter Parker was a nerd under all that Spandex. And, even with the mask, Peter continued to be one. The character fit with Tobey's persona and psyhical type.

Jake is being critized because Dastan, or at least what we've been shown of that Persian Prince, is nothing like Jake's persona, or at least what we've been shown for the last 2 years. No one can see the pussy whipped thing that trailed behind The General into the VF as a dashing hero. The guy was spends his leisure time sipping lattes and shopping for women's knickers is hardly an action type guy. The person that PR has promoted to the public is merely an extension, an accessory if you will, to the romcom queen. Not a butch, stand-up, stand alone kind of image, right?

Disney and PR, are banking on the flesh to attract. Makes Jake a side of beef first, and acting ability a distant second.

Sad, so sad. Jake should have learned to trust his Muse instead of listening to those who saw only a meal ticket.

    ReplyDelete
  41. The pictures are still up at Huffington Post. And I'd say 3/4 of the comments are positive.

    ReplyDelete
  42. The pics are still visable at Towelroad, also. About the comments, 3/4 of them talk about wiping down their keyboards after.

Jake's at least a hit with gay men. Always has been actually. Is that the reason for the pics, maybe, to pull in a demographic that wouldn't have normally come to see the movie? Could Disney REALLY be courting the pink dollar?

    ReplyDelete
  43. The biggest problem for Jake was that this movie was pushed back a year. It certianly didnt want to compete with compete with the blockbusters coming out this summer.

Jakes problem is that he needs to start looking past PoP and he most likely now knows it. He has made alot of money and he needs to make some changes rather quickly. If reeke continues for another whole damn year it would be a huge mistake. I keep hoping this weekend that he has realized that.

Gays around the world rejoice!!! Obviously this film KNOWS the crowd its gearing toward... and that would be the queers... and I speak as one of them.
Bring on the shirtless J.G. in all his awkward glory.

  46. "Sorry guys. The new set pictures were removed at the request of Disney."

    ReplyDelete
  47. Wow obviously Disney didnt like the reaction or did not aspprove the pics. Thanks for letting us know that stephanie

    ReplyDelete
  48. Since they were getting positive comments at some places, I think it is more likely it has to do with not being authorized/not being part of Disney's marketing plan. They probably want to wait until Comic Con this summer to start the ball rolling.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Disney did not approve of the pics.

Nothing they can do about the other sites, too many. But since they originated from IHJ, they had to make them remove them.

Looking at the pics you can tell they weren't official studio shots.

  50. Well if Disney didn'y put these pictures out there who the hell did?

  51. Well if Disney didn'y put these pictures out there who the hell did?

Well, the one person who has been trying very hard to drum up interest in POP and Jake being such a wonderful prince has been Bruckheimer. Wouldn't put it past him to have accidently released the pics to show off his studly prince. Looks like it backfired on him though because the majority of comments where ever the pics were posted were negative. Disney must be mega pissed. They would never run a PR campaign off the cuff like this. Wonder how many phone calls Bruckheimer got about this.

  52. Warning might be NSFW. Prepare yourself: Jake's face in drunk girl's tits. :(

    ReplyDelete
  53. And the PR war begins...

    ReplyDelete
  54. A lot of gay guys like looking at breasts and even feeling them up, I guess Jake is one of us I mean them. But I can't believe he would do it in public like that. Did you see his lips? Like he was ready to breastfeed. He must be really desperate to sell his straight image. or maybe he was just hungry?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Hmm, I wouldn't be worried. Half of the posts were by a couple of silly people so obviously from this site from this site drumming up their Jake-is-gay and spitting their resentment by dissing PoP, with their hardly concealed homophobic comments...

    ReplyDelete
  56. ^^^ You should be worried for your mental health.

  57. Reed, hope you are joking. Ask for immediate help, otherwise! Like, now! Actually, ask for help even if you were joking!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Lol, I don't think I need, there are many people much more needy, like you! Seriously. And now I know who posts there.

  59. And you thought Lakers 1 was steamy! Ed Westwick at Knicks game

    ReplyDelete
  60. Thanks for the link H.C. Those pictures certainly are something. The thing I find interesting about those Gossip Girl actors is not only the continued ambiguous behavior despite all the gay chatter, I get the feeling they play it up because of the buzz it brings them and the show--and a show that is all about the fangirl.

  61. Jake Boob Picture.

Old picture. Three years old. That was from a contest on the Best Week Ever from 2006.

They took his devil face from the Pre Oscar party where he was drunk remember and asked people to photoshop it on different places.

Here is the contest announcement and requirements.

And here's the picture of Jake on Tara Reid's boob

  62. LOL! What is it about Laker games???

I have no idea what the big deal about Ed Westwick is, but that guy who is his guest is not bad eye candy. Man, and those aren't photoshopped? They're practically in each other's laps, lol. Pretty darn hot pictures.

Night, Elinor!! Nite, NETB! Long day away here.

And the Big D is setting in. Big time. heavy sigh. I know I said on Friday that I was ready to go back, but now I'm not. I don't want to get up in the morning!

Boy, quite a snafu over the PoP pictures, eh? That's incredible that they got that far released to other major blogs before getting yanked. That is not too whippy.

I'd like to know the source of the bike pics release, but I don't have to know right now. I'm still floating down the canal in my inner tube, enjoying the ride. Things will probably reveal themselves further down the line.

Thanks, Wicked & Special, for your work on the recipe file. That'll be great.

Well, short night tonight. Hopefully, a walk will be possible tomorrow as they're calling for thunderstorms all day. And Dancing With the Stars starts tomorrow night, yeaaaa!

  63. Boy, Marie Osmond is advertising for Nutrisystem and she just looks fantastic. I always thought she was pretty but she looks 10 yrs younger now, I'm not kidding.
Have you ever seen those NutriSystem meals? Has anyone ever tried them; are they good? I see them at Big Lots (does anyone have Big Lots in their town??) and they are tiny little meals.

Okay, I have to do a little call out before I check out here. And it is to Little Blue Pill. Little Blue Pill?? Are you lurking? Where did you go? You were going to check back in after your travels, but maybe things have gotten really hectic for you? Hope everything in RL is going alright. Anyway, I just wanted to say hey and if you can, poke your head in here & say hi! Are you in the States?

Okay, well sweet dreams to you wherever you are and to Destiny & to Special, who are around. Man, weather on the 8's just came on and it's going to get cold in a few days. Alright, well nite & I'm going to get ready to hit the hay.

  65. Not surprised those were not authorized pics. They are probably the ones meant for the trash. I know every one has a different opinion, but I thought they were awful and did not convey the right message for the movie. I do wonder if Disney leaked them deliberately to embarrass Jake and bring him into line. They just spent 2 years trying to straighten his image and Jake rebels and gets caught biking with his boyfriend. I've seen many a honcho with a sizable ego make things personal because they got mad. A juicy story is behind all this, that's for sure.

  66. "Old picture. Three years old. That was from a contest on the Best Week Ever from 2006."

i know all that^. What I didn't know was no one can have fun around here. Guess i be lurking, reading now. Sorry you had to link to the sources and write an explanation to make sure everyone knows you know it's a 3 year old pic.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I didn't mean it like that. Sorry if I took your fun. My apologies.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I didn't catch that earlier about the recipes, so thanks for putting them in their own post so I don't have to go digging for them.

Can't see Disney deliberately putting something out there that they thought would be bad for Jake because that means it's bad for PoP. I agree with you that the timing does seem a bit suspicious, coming after Jaustin. I could see them doing something "unofficial" like this thinking it would appeal to gay men, and be forgotten by everyone else by the time PoP comes out.

    ReplyDelete
  69. M, maybe you've seen them elsewhere, but you should see the pictures of Taylor Kitsch they have at FCC in the No Beave Steve Blind Item thread. And no, the consensus is still that this BV is about Quinto.

  70. i go away when I want, retard!

    ReplyDelete
  71. sorry but I don't find the Ed Westwick pics that steamy, perhaps because I don't find the guys appealing in any way, and i cannot stand people wearing forma shoes ... and no socks! Yuck!

    ReplyDelete
  72. neena you're missing the point. It's not about you finding them attractive. It's how they are with each other at the game.

  74. You always come up with great articles and music OMG! I just hope
that Jake does what makes HIM happy. If he is with Reese, I meant
that I hope that he does not cut
out most of his friends out of his
life. I know that Ted has said that
TT and his GG are still together
and I truly hope so! IF they have
put an end to their romantic relationship, I hope that they stay
the best of friends!! Has Mr. and
    Mrs. Gyllenhaal's divorce become
    final?

  75. Hey, Kacie! Now what kind of home repair/remodeling did you say you were going to be doing? Painting? That's always exciting because it gives a room a new breath of air & look. But you know what that means, kace. It means that once it's painted, that leads to new valances or curtains, new linens & accessories. lol

Okay, gotta go, gotta go ..to the ugly bug show, gotta go, gotta go...
That song is from Summer Magic; I've been watching it on dvd. Ol' Burl Ives. Hayley Mills.

I know what you're saying, neena. I am not an Ed Westwick fan either - I have no idea what that is all about, but the guy he's with is interesting. I was liking their body language.

Alright, everyone have a great day! I have got to get going.

  77. Bitch Back!

    Dear Ted:
Please, please, please! Share the Rachael Ray's publicist's letter! Also, I know you've probably revealed it before, but what is Toothy's age range? his 20s, 30s? Tom Cruise 40s or George Clooney 40s? And given what happened to Rupert Everett's career, do you blame Toothy for staying in the closet's closet?
    —GeeGee

    Dear Age-Defying:
You'll get a taste of the letter in this week's Truth, Lies, & Ted. BTW, Toothy is younger than Cruise and Clooney.

    Dear Ted:
So I liked your rant of Jakey-poo doing Damn Yankees. Is it safe to assume you're about to the edge as promised in keeping Toothy a secret? Two totally different thoughts of course!
    —Hoosier Toothy

    Dear Pulling Teeth:
Sorry, babe, I'll hint as much as possible, but it's up to you all to figure out Toothy Tile. For now, at least.

    Dear Ted:
Let's boycott Toothy altogether. Now, James Franco on the other hand is so delish and not a college dropout, so he is so much more deserving of our attention, n'est-ce pas?
    —Tarquin

    Dear Frankly Franco:
Yummy indeed. And that boy is def deserved of our attention. He's already been a Blind Vice!

  78. The record is called The Other Side of the Mountain and it's really solid.

I'll check this out Wicked. Very haunting and intriguing. My first impression was that line in BBM "dirge slowness", but I mean that in a good way. :) I tried to find the lyrics, but didn't have much luck, but it reminds me of the Native Americans being booted out by Europeans. Very haunting.
