Out Spotlight XCVII

Today's Out Spotlight is Janis Ian. Singer, songwriter, poet, columnist, science fiction fan-turned-author.

Born Janis Eddy Fink, April 7, 1951 to a Jewish family in New York City, she was primarily raised in New Jersey, attended East Orange High School and then the pretigious New York City High School of Music & Art. Her parents, Victor , a music teacher and Pearl, ran a summer camp in upstate New York, and, in that Cold War era, were frequently under government surveillance because of their left-wing politics. (She would allude to these years later in her song "God and the FBI"). As a young girl Ian admired the work of folk pioneers such as Joan Baez and Odetta and at the age of twelve, ahe wrote her first song, "Hair of Spun Gold," which was she later recorded for her debut album. At age thirteen, she legally changed her name to Janis Ian, using brother Eric's middle name.

At fourteen, Ian met producer George "Shadow" Morton, at the time best-known for his work with The Shangri-Las, and was signed to a recording contract with Atlantic Records. Two years later she had a national hit single with "Society's Child" a controversial song about an interracial teen couple and the social pressure to end their relationship. Her growing fame made her time high school difficult with her teachers frequently making comments about her budding career and, despite her achieving good grades on exams, failed her in every subject due to her frequent absences to perform. She later dropped out of the High School of Music and Art with her teachers' blessing.

Her most successful single in the United States was "At Seventeen," released in 1975, a bittersweet commentary on adolescent cruelty, the illusion of popularity, and teenage angst, as reflected upon from the maturity of adulthood. Winning a Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Performance - Female in 1975, the 16 yr. old Ian beat out the of Linda Ronstadt; Olivia Newton-John; and Helen Reddy. She performed "At Seventeen" as a musical guest on the very first episode of Saturday Night Live on October 11, 1975. The song's album, Between the Lines, was also a smash and hit #1 on Billboard's Album chart. It was quickly certified Gold and later earned a 'Platinum' certification for sales of over one million copies sold in the US. On Valentine's Day 1977, Ian received 461 Valentine cards, from the line in the song about never getting one.

Her song "Fly Too High", produced by disco producer Giorgio Moroder, was her contribution to the soundtrack of the Jodie Foster film Foxes, also featured on Ian's 1979 album Night Rains. It earned her a Grammy nomination and became a hit single in many countries, including South Africa, Belgium. Australia, Israel, and the Netherlands.

While commercially successful in outside the U.S., with a very strong following in Japan, Ian made the pop charts only once more in the U.S. with "Under the Covers," though she had several more songs reach the Adult Contemporary singles chart through 1980 . She walked away from her CBS contract in 1982, while it still had three albums worth close to a million dollars in her pocket to go. Ian deliberately spent much of the 1980s and early 1990s without a record deal. During the 1982–1992 period she continued to write songs, She also studied under legendary acting coach Stella Adler and struck up a close friendship with Adler, which continued until Adler's death in 1992.

Ian became one of the first "indie artists," resurfacing in 1993, with the worldwide release of "Breaking Silence". Her lyrics pull no punches. The issues covered in this collection include incest, abuse, and the Holocaust. Much of the reason for the album's delay was that the music industry considered Janis Ian "unbankable." Finally in frustration, she was forced to mortgage her house to record Breaking Silence. As well as stepping back into the musical spotlight, she as came out publicly. Ian had been out of the closet to her family and within the industry for years. But she has chosen to come out publicly as a lesbian amidst the publicity of the album.

Ian has released five albums since, including a live album, 2003's Working Without A Net.Ian's most recent album, Folk Is The New Black, was released jointly by the Rude Girl and Cooking Vinyl labels in 2006. It is the first in over twenty years where she did all the songwriting herself.

On July 24, 2008, Janis Ian released her Autobiography: Society's Child to much critical acclaim. An accompanying double CD, The Autobiography Collection has also been released with all Ian's best loved songs.

Ian still tours and has a devoted fan base.

A outspoken critic of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA], which she sees as acting against the interests of musicians and consumers. As such, she has willingly released several of her songs for free download from her website.

In addition to being an award-winning singer-songwriter, Ian writes science fiction. A long-time reader of the genre, she got into science fiction fandom in 2001, attending the Millennium Philcon. Her works have been published in an assortment of anthologies, and she co-edited, with Mike Resnick, the anthology Stars: Original Stories Based on the Songs of Janis Ian, published in 2003. She attends sci-fi conventions when she can.

She has been a regular columnist for, and still contributes to the LGBT news magazine, The Advocate.

Ian currently lives in Nashville, Tennessee, with her wife, attorney Patricia Snyder, whom she married in Toronto, August 27, 2003. She and her wife have been a couple over 19 years.

  1. The Gyllenhuff thing - wow. Good call PG on Peter not being at lunch, but I think Jake will be in NY more now that he is working closer to Maggie for the next 3 months.

I look at it this way about discussions, where there are 2 people, 3 opinions arise. There will always be differences of opinion.

Have a great Sunday and enjoy it.

  2. Oh, and I don't even know if that twitter said when the lunch/dinner supposedly was and how it relates to Peter being in Toronto. I'm too lazy & time challenged to try to figure all the logistics of probability, lol. But I did see the pictures and thought I would mention it should more information come to pass. I do remember the twitter saying "Maggie & Co", so and company meaning who exactly but either Peter, or Peter & Ramona. Who knows, lol!

I am enjoying a great salad from my local Hy Vee store. You know, salads are supposed to be very diet-ish and nutritious. And I do my good thing by using Romaine & those funny looking greens, plus lots of other good stuff. But I always totally ruin my salads' value with my necessary additions of feta cheese, sunflower seeds, full fat Ranch Dressing, and hard boiled eggs.

But I did see corn on the bar this morning so I tried it. Excellent!!! Good ol', plain ol' kernel corn, who would've thought?

This Spotlight was fascinating. It caught my eye because of course, being a BBoomer, I remember that song At Seventeen. Her story is just totally intriguing.

What a fascinating, fulfilling life she seems to be having. Kudos to her. She sounds like quite the feisty person, lol.

  3. The twitter from Brooklyn yesterday afternoon just said Jake,Reese, Maggie and Co. No mention of Peter at all. I guess there was an assumption that Peter was a part of the Co. and they didn't recognize him but most likely it was a group of friends and or relatives. Maggie and Jake have cousins,an aunt, etc. that live in Brooklyn.

  4. Nice article. Just one change: in 1975 when she won the Grammy, she was 24 years old. Any Janis fans are invited to join the Janis Ian message board on her website and meet her other fans. It's a great group of folks.

  5. Wow Janis Ian. She is one my friend Joe's favorite performers. I have seen her perform several times. She has a beautiful voice and is an amazing musician. If anyone gets the chance to go to one of her concerts I highly recomend it.

I have decided to ignore all tweets. I have no clue why people post them. They are meaningless. From now on I only believe things when I see a picture. People post them to make us feel bad. I wish they stop but for sure they wont. I dont understand why folks want to make other people feel bad.

So I guess you don't believe tweets with a picture either. Reeke tweet and pic today, ignore it.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Sorry, but I don´t see the problems with twitters. Why should they make you feel bad? Because they are not what you would like to read?

    Babbler, go home!

  9. Stay clueless, doesn't matter.

Big deal, they're strolling around the city.

You had better believe your sweet bonnet that had Reese really been having lunch/dinner/brunch/greasy hot dog at an outdoor food cart on the sidewalk with Jake and his sister, we would've gotten a pic of it.

When or if that event ever happens, we will definitely see proof of it. She will make sure of it.

Hey, Tom!!! Good morning to ya! What is up, buddy?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Great. Scoffers are nervous over the recent lack & quality of Reeke pics and so we have to put up with their snarkiness.

And we are probably on our own to defend the castle.

That's alright, bring it on, you guys. ;D

    ReplyDelete
  11. Btw attitudes like Tom's is why I didn't post the tweet or the pic. Why bother. You all will have to find it yourself. Isn't it wonderful how some of your posters put extra work on you?! Instead of having the link done and ready on your site as soon as it's posted at the source, you have to go look for it yourself and be the last to know.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Because they are not what you would like to read?

"Twitter" ITA. You can bet your ass if there's a twitter and pic of Jaustin they'd be all over it.

Btw "LOL" Twitter sightings and pics isn't a matter of Babbler vs. non-Babbler. If you're that dense and angry about a micro-communications tool, you got problems. Just sayin.

    ReplyDelete
  13. huh?^^^^

We're not going to have another Twitter Meltdown today, are we? Darn, and I think I have an appointment to have my nails done.

    dang!

  14. "Stay clueless",

Troll, you are the one with the problem, and your problem is gay Jake and fake Reeke.

See? There are so many other things in life to talk about, think about, enjoy, dream about, than to get worked up over like a technological tool.

Oh, and how about this? Yesterday's video of Buckin?!!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Ha ha PG - I haven't looked in for a while, but that Buckin video is something :) :)

I don't care much about the tweets and think this kind of profile is probably part of Jake's job right now.

Nice profile, Spesh, and what an amazing song this is.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Oh, really?! Then why am I over at WFT totally ragging on Reeke?!

Jeeze. Let me tell you something. I posted the tweet and the link at WFT and we're all over there having a great time looking at the pic and LOLing about Reese's rat hair and how Jake is holding his coffee cup so she can't hold his hand, and what if a speeding car gunned their way thru a red light while Reeke is in the street etc. But here at OMG you mention the word "tweet" and everyone covers their ears and eyes and screams "I'm not listening" like a bunch of children and calls you a Babbler for saying that forbidden word. The reactions here are ridiculous.

  18. Great OutSpotlight, I say that every week! I have always loved Janis Ian. :)

    ReplyDelete
  19. SC, let me check that blood pressure for you, alright?

Hey, I was over there laughing on the sidelines right along with you guys.

    Look.

People have every right, every human right to feel however they want to about something. I believe some tweets, I don't have any problems with tweets that have back up pictures, but you can't believe them all, just like you can't believe everything you read.

But stop shoving Twitter down every single human's throat as if your life depended on it, alright?

It's not just an OMG thing. If someone doesn't like Twitter, leave them the heck alone and just converse with those who do like it or who do want to indulge themselves in your amazing talents.

    Criminetley's.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Hey London!!! Big hug for you. Sorry for that interruption there.

Was that video something or what?! I'm still perspiring a bit over that, I do believe, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Clueless, if you have a place that enjoys your tweets, then by all means visit them. Don't get upset if not everyone feels the same way. Each blog has its own personality, just like people.

Fascinating spotlight today. I always enjoyed Ian's music but never gave her private life a moments thought. Glad to hear she has a long time partner.

I have watched that Robert/Austin video more times than I care to admit. Good bet I'll watch it a few more times too. One more day to go till OTH. I think its great that Austin is not afraid to call Robert an attractive man or to wish for a joint nude scene, even if the latter statement was just a joke. Funny how Austin is growing more self confident while Jake is doing exactly the opposite.

  22. i haven't seen a good pic of reese lately, but usually it's her bizarre clothes that freak me out, not her hair. i don't get what motivates her when she's dressing, but i'm pretty sure it's not the desire to look good.

regarding the pics in general: if we just saw one picture of them, looking all smiley and happy, maybe it would be small of us to pick on them about that. however, when you see the whole series of pics, 10-15 where they look in varying stages of miserable, then one half-way decent one that - wahlah - shows up in the mags a few days later, it's hard not to be a bit critical.

i've been thinking about other couples i see who are/aren't married, but are couples, like mathew mc and his girlfriend. they've got a baby together, and they look like a couple, altho we do see lots of pics of him on his own doing his guy things.

halle and her hunky dude: they have a baby, and they look like they are together.

jim carey and jenny mc: they aren't married and no kids, but they seem to interact when they are in pics together, and - hey - she talks about him! that's a giveaway right there!

brangelina - obvious, but for the record - kids, talk about each other, walk the red carpet together, etc; seem troubled at the moment.

tomcat: even with the baby, they don't seem real to me.

tori sp and her guy: that seems totally fake to me; i think he's using her, and i thought that before it was a magazine cover.

katherine z and michael d.: they seem very much in love.

jake and reese do some of the right stuff: they go to dinner, they shop, they goof off getting coffee, etc, but they have no connnection between them. they don't look in love, they don't look like they want to be together, they don't look like maybe they just got out of bed after making love - there is nothing special or secret or unique about they way they are together. they are just 2 people occupying space, and more and more anymore, they both look miserable.

for a while - the first year - they looked kinda ok with it all, but this year for sure jake started losing his hold on it, and now even reese doesn't seem to be happy anymore. i bet it ends soon. even if they are supposed to drag it out till POP, if they can't fake it anymore, then i think it would do more harm than good to keep up the charade.

  23. If you don't believe in twitters or want to see pictures or twitter posts isn't it possible to just ignore those posts? Just like posts about Reese's kids if you're not interested can't you just ignore the post. Is it necessary to get indignant and tell people not to post things that you're not interested in? I've stopped posting because I been lashed out at but I like to pop by on Sunday for the out spotlight so I felt compelled to add my thoughts.

    ReplyDelete
  24. ^^Me too - there's no need to get so upset about Twitters. Some are true, but I'll be some are not, and it's just too convenient of a medium not to be taken advantage of, IMO. I don't know much about it, I don't use it, pretty technologically challenged.

I don't post as often, do lurk and do like to check in for the other fantastic topics OMG has, such as the OutSpotlight, and the music. I've been called a troll and Babbler outright, as well as harassed and accused of being some of the other antagonists on here such as Popcorn. Which is untrue. So I no longer use a regular name, I read OMG's fine print and that is acceptable under the rules. I don't know if that makes me "ungutsy" or not, but I don't feel my online time should be spent fending off trolls and insults. I just want to spend a few minutes enjoying.

    Have a great Sunday,

I still have an interest in J&A, and of course Jake as an actor.

    ReplyDelete
  25. The reactions here are ridiculous.

ITA. And that's why the only twitters even the ones with proof of pics, get posted on OMG by Special K. Because anyone else who posts them or even talks about twitter gets called a Babbler and a troll but Special K is untouchable and beyond reproach. So in addition to doing great creative posts every single day, monitoring the blog and making comments of her own, Special K also has the task of finding and posting twitter links because if they are posted by anyone else, or even brought up in convo by anyone else other than her, it creates friction and factions on the blog and who knows how many more posters and potential posters are lost because of it. It's really nice that Special doesn't mind doing all the work and having any twitter postings left up for her to do. Thank you Special.

    You are joking, right?

    Jake doesn't work since Dec 15, 2008 - that's 9 months of free time.

Destiny the pic from tribeca was from this morning, the Brooklyn tweets are from this afternoon.

  45. This site is terrible. If you post a twitter or disagree with anyone you get called a Babbler and a troll. If anyone destroys this site and cuts its poster members and comment numbers, it won't be the Babblers, trolls or PR. It will be because the OMGers turned against their own.

    ReplyDelete
  46. ^^^ OMGers have names. What is your name? Why don't you have OMG name if you're TB?

    ReplyDelete
  47. No Pic No Believe.

If pics show up then everyone will be convinced it's an arranged op.
    Reeke can't win. ;)

But "knowing" Reese and her past habits of arranging ops, I wouldn't be surprised if she arranged one in Brooklyn too. I guess we'll see.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Boy, the convo here today just keeps going down a grade, elementary school by elementary school, doesn't it? Looking at all the comments on here regarding OMG'ers and their opinions on things makes me feel like I'm looking at comments made by grade schooler's.

Man and I thought I was thin skinned and supersensitive. You guys are making me look like a devil may care.

Music Luvah, I don't know who has called you a "babbler" or "troll" or "Popcorn". I admit if it was Popcorn or "scoffer" that would have been me. Was it me? Surely you remember.

I'm not going to reiterate the whole spiel about my feelings on names, anons, made up names, etc. I have said it all enough that I'm sick of it myself.

If you have a problem with me or things I've said, particularly my using the word "gutsy", please just address me to my name and we can discuss it on here. I won't pound you on the head or be disrespectful or call you names since now I recognize you when you use a name that I know.

I'm sorry if this ends our somewhat tenuous friendship but I'm not changing my mind on how I feel and I'm not going to walk on eggshells around people.

This whole entire subject is absolutely ridiculous and childish.

    ReplyDelete
  49. ^^^ OMGers have names. What is your name? Why don't you have OMG name if you're TB?

Yes I used to post with a regular Google blogger name. But after getting hassled and harangued by trolls and annoyed by others I don't use a regular name anymore. Nothing in the TB or OMG rule book says I have to. And after seeing how others have been treated rotten here by getting called names, as well as myself, you don't deserve to know who I am.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Destiny, if you're around, I sent you an email.

    ReplyDelete
  51. PG, it wasn't you, but it is on a previous thread - I was granted the title of "Troll of the First Order". It was great that I was offered a royal title, but I just can't accept in in good conscience because I am not a troll. I was also slyly made to be associated with Popcorn in that same post, but I am not Popcorn either. It shouldn't end any friendships, because I think people should say what they think, as long as they don't become abusive about it, and it doesn't mean people can't get along anyway. I may get into a heated discussion over a topic, but refrain from name calling in them.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one. I don't believe in using a regular name and you do. Normally I will use Music Luvah unless I am targeted like I was that time. I don't have a problem with using the word "gutsy", just that their may be legitmate reason why people may not feel comfortable using a regular name, it doesn't automatically mean someone might have ulterior motives.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I am not *Shakes Head* either.

    ReplyDelete
  53. On WFT 99% use anonymous but a babbler/troll can be spotted a mile away. When twitters are posted at WFT people talk about them and discuss. Having a twitter posted at WFT doesn't mean the poster is a babbler, a troll or deserve to be treated meanly or dismissed. Yet at OMG, it does. I really don't understand OMG, which is why I prefer posting at WFT where people treat each other and the opinions and information posted with a lot more respect.

    ReplyDelete
  54. And I'm not Music Luvuh!

    ReplyDelete
  55. ML, I don't have a problem with people not registering.

It does strike me as funny if someone uses a different name nearly every time they post. You use ML alot but as you mentioned, you also used, oh, what was it, I forget but we were talking about music the other day.
I don't have any problem with that but I have to tell you, it did makes me feel kinda strange inside to know I had been talking to someone I "knew" but didn't know that at the time.

But I'm not going to obssess over it. At least it was friendly talk and no big deal.

I am just saying that it helps to know who you're talking to when you're in a serious conversation or you talk to someone all the time. When it's just a fun or funny comment, who cares if it's a made up name? I don't think anyone cares. It's not that big of a deal, honestly.

What I'm talking about is when someone addresses me by my name, gets nasty, gets personal, gets abusive and they're using a made up name that they're just using that day, I have a problem with that. If you're going to duke it out with me, by gosh I want to know who's doing it and who I'm talking to.

To not identify yourself if you personally address someone by their name is cowardly. That's how I feel about it.

    ReplyDelete
  56. you don't deserve to know who I am

OK. Please stop complaining about being called troll, no one can read your mind.

  59. People post Tweets here to deliberately make the regulars feel bad. That is trolling. I have nothing against Tweeter, facebook or my space but when you know some is gonna hurt somebody and deliberately post it then you are a troll. Why jsut not dicuss what you like on a blog were others can celebrate your posts. Kinda sick folks trying to get a rise out of people all the time.

I still say i believe no Tweets unless pictures confirm the sighting. Anyone can lie or amke up shit.

    ReplyDelete
  60. PG, you can be assured that I don't have any ulterior motives - I think my posting style can be spotted a mile away anyway. If I don't always use the same name, it's strictly for privacy's sake. Or at least my own illusion of privacy.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Peace, ML. Let's put this behind us for crying out loud.

    gaaahh. I'm mentally exhausted.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Ok. Wow. Home from a Sox make up game and find a whole lot of discussion.

Thanks AJGLA - for the revision and the invitation.

I really like this song and hearing again, I knew I had to do a spotlight on her. Janis' biography has gotten really great reviews too.

The thing about twitters. Hey everyone can post what they want without attacking abusing or defaming others, tweets included, different opinions or whatever. To those who like twitter read it. To those who can't be bothered, hey just give those peepers a longer blink.

There are lots of things I don't agree with, and there are lots of things here I say that you don't agree with either. But I want to give you as much respect for what you say as I want to get for what I say. That's it. And its good to have differing opinions, frustrating maybe, good yes.

Good things can from constructive discussion, we're all have an equal voice.

Sometimes I have been called a babbler in the past. I posted under another name and saw what happened. And it is tough to take. I just want people to feel they can post, can disagree, there is no party line, and just comment. We just don't want personal attacks of people posting.

I don't say things about other blogs, because you know what they are doing their thing. It's not my thing, and that's ok, there is plenty of space for people to find a niche in the fandom for everyone.

Back to the game. Gorgeous day for baseball, hey you can worship at Church of Baseball one Sunday every once in a while, believe me there have been enough prayers said at Fenway as there are in church.

It was just great day and nice to hang out with my nephew just us.

  63. Thanks Special - PG, no worries, I've already forgotten about it! There's too much really good stuff going on at OMG to let a nest of trolls try to create dissent with each other. I see we've been bombarded with bird sh*t, I mean tweets! I feel like Terry Gilliam does about it, I'm technologically challenged by choice sometimes.

Today is a great day out there. :)

LOL irl. I thought I'd heard everything but this takes the cake.

  65. I thought it was a comment that hi the nail on the head unbelievable. I for one dont wanna see reeke tweets planted on this sight. Why? What for? Why do you feel a reason to do it? There is only one reason. Not that hard to figure out.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Don't read any newspapers Tom. There might be world news events that are planted in there just to hurt you.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I don't have a problem at all with tweets being posted on here. They can be a source of information.

But just my feeling that it is up to an individual whether or not they want to believe it or not.

Not all tweets are posted on here to make anyone feel bad. I think sometimes some are put on to get us stirred up. But other times they are put up just as a source of information.

I'm not going to bite the hand that feeds. But by the same token, I don't feel like I should bow and feel eternally grateful to whoever puts it up. That is their choice to do it. No one is asking for it. If a tweet turns out to preclude a big noteworthy event, then more pictures will follow.

If one long single tweet should just reveal something totally scandalous, it will be exploited on CNN.com and USA Today.com and People.com, JustJared, you name it.

So I'm not worried about missing the entire world going by if I don't see one.

Really. This entire subject is absolutely ridiculous and hardly worthy of an entire day's conversation.

In My Opinion. Giminy's. It's almost downright comical.

  68. Ok, so flipping around waiting for the second Sox game to start on TV, and ran past ABC's family channel showing A Cinderella Story with Hilary Duff and Chad Michael Murray. Had to chuckle after the Gyllenhuff tweet last night, but laughed harder when heard when I found out the Chad's character is named Austin.

So is the Duffster the missing link for Jaustin? LOL

  69. IMO Tom and Prairie Girl, with their irrational fear and hatred of Twitter, are two domineering bullies who end up keeping a lot of good people, i.e. TBers NOT trolls or babblers, away from posting freely on OMG.

IMO to them a Twitter posted about Reeke, whether genuine or not, automatically means an endorsement of Reese and Jake as a couple, that they are real and in love and Jake is straight. A Reeke Twitter posted on OMG can't be analyzed or made fun of or used as info or laughed at or heavens - questioned: whether or not it is a true sighting, it is a fact and an endorsement of Jake and Reese in love.

So no Twitters on OMG because even though they say they don't believe in them, they do. Without any questions.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Ur points are riduculous. My TV viewing revolves around CNN and MSNBC. I am very much informed about world affairs. A lot of it is not good. I dont come here for world news. I come here because I still believe Jake will come out one day. I am not giving up. It wont happen today or tomorrow but it will. I care a lot about it. I really do. When I feel like something is being shoved down my throat that I believe is a lie dont like people making it worse. Yes Jake and reese are together. I know that. How many times does someone have to remind us with some tweet that cant be proved without a pic. Enuff said for you. Fell free to have the last word but please make some sense.

  72. The twitter about Jake and Maggie at record vintage clothing sale in Dumbo (Brooklyn) - man that would be so much fun. Can see Maggie shopping for herself. She has such a 40's - 50's era kinda look to her, even if she has a lot of "hippy mom" (great article btw). And can see Jake shopping for his favorite guy who loves vintage men's accessories. : )

  73. domineering bully. LOLLLLLLLL!

Your comment is just so absolutely irrational itself that no one is going to take it seriously. You obviously have just jumped into the pool cold because you have no clue what you're talking about.

You totally are making up crap.
You haven't read a word I've said at all today.

You are the same person who has been on here since Twitter first came on the scene. You've cried and cried because you feel you get no appreciation for putting up twitter references. No one is glorifying your name. No one appreciates your Masters in Communications. No one is awed by your four Twitter accounts.

Your bitterness and obssession with Twitter is bordering on psychotic and I am not kidding.

Let it go for gosh sakes, can you not see that other people can and are talking about other things.

I swear, you either have stock in Twitter, you own the patent on Twitter, you work for Twitter and gain commission for even mentioning Twitter on blogs or something. It's getting to the point of your being a Twitter Stalker and a Twitter Cult Fanatic.

lol. Twitter Stalker. I think I just made a funny.

  75. Sorry for 3 in a row.

Okay, so what I want to know is why on earth Jake is in NYC? Why wouldn't he have been at the Disney Expo along with those other actors who have upcoming Disney movies? Don't get me wrong, I think it's great he's with his sister, brother in law & niece. But why now, this weekend?

He wasn't needed in Pittsburgh for any work related purposes, that is now plain as day. So work cannot be used as a reason.

Doesn't it just seem strange to anyone else that here was the lead guy in this movie and he was clearly available to be at this Expo? But he's not there. He wasn't filming. He was in NYC eating, drinking and being merry. lol. couldn't resist that one.

To me, it does not seem like Disney is confident at all in their product or their lead man or something.

And that's really hard to say because Disney is king of the blockbuster. They're total pros. They're king of the castle when it comes to smartitude and knowing how to market their product.

And I'm just a sometime moviegoer. Am I missing something?

Will they wait until March & April 2010 to have Jake start mentioning & talking up this epic like movie?

Tom the Tweet from this morning had a pic. Also there are masses of tweets coming in about the gang in Brooklyn, no pics yet but loads of them - of course you probably think all of them are phony PR accounts. LOL!

FYI believing in the validity of twitter sightings and a pic of Reeke doesn't make me a Babbler. Those are 2 different issues. You guys really need to learn to separate the two and get over it.

  83. Many twitters turn out to be bogus as do some celeb sightings. Any person can Twitter anything as can they email a gossip sight claiming to have seen someone.

I usually wait until there are several twitters putting the person in that area from several people (plus now somebody provided a photo)

Just like the twitter about Austin being in east hampton or the one on just jared putting him at the Ronson party @ chelsea w/SB. She showed up in photos at both places, we know he was in the area and then several people in gossip columns and on twitter saw them.

I'm in the mindset that you need more than on twitter to prove it's real.

    ReplyDelete
  87. I'm not sure why Jake wasn't a part of D23, but then maybe Bruck wants the biggest bang out of the credit buck. Because it is interesting that Burton came for Alice because he was the director, but Mike Newell didn't and he's the director for PoP.

Also wonder if they are saving their stars for a big solo promotion for PoP, with Bruck you wonder how big of an event you do for an epic movie? Multiple Premiers. One in shown against the desert dunes or desert palace somewhere? Or do you recreate a Persian palace scene for the premiere?

You really don't get it, do you. Like I stated: FYI believing in the validity of twitter sightings and a pic of Reeke doesn't make me a Babbler. Those are 2 different issues. You guys really need to learn to separate the two and get over it.

If you think that determining a Twitter pic along with a cluster of Twitters to be valid, placing its subject in a particular geographical area, makes someone a Babbler or a troll then you have some big problems with information and comprehension. By that same logic, anyone here who mentions Reeke in any manner or form is a Babbler or a troll.

You'll most likely answer my comment here with another "Troll go home" or Babbler accusation which will actually prove my point: that you have absolutely no concept of the journalistic difference between presenting information and taking a side. To you, twitter = babbler/troll. So go ahead and accuse me. Prove your ignorance.

In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional or disciplinary response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.

Anyone who posts Twitters, talks about Reeke, talks about Reese or who believes Jake and Reese is Real is a TROLL. It DOES NOT MATTER if you are a diehard Jaustinite: if you post ANYTHING about ANY TWITTER you are a TROLL.

  102. Too bad the bullies took over the blog today because they can't accept Twitter as a communication tool and for some odd reason automatically associate it with being a Reese & Jake supporter. The Out Spotlight got lost, any discussion of Reeking became accusations of Babbling and Austin, who cares.

    ReplyDelete
  103. This is so exciting about the 3D. Why? Because while a lot is coming out in 3D now because the technology is getting so much better, but that Bruck has just done something for the video game adaptation first, made it 3D. And it taking that world that gamers have and giving it depth. And if looks visually similar to Frank Miller's 300. WOW! It could be like stepping into otherworldly almost ethereal watercolored sand painting. Just Wow!!

I want to see the gamers reaction to it. I think it will go over well with them.

I don't think it's any accident that the 3D thing was so quietly released. That's the big story, and it didn't need the fanfare, it has its own legs. Shrewd move Bruck shrewd move.

  105. This isn’t the first time that producer Jerry Bruckheimer has made this decision. The family action-adventure film G-Force was converted to 3D after the fact, but most of the film’s creatures were computer generated, which makes things a bit easier. While I’m one of the few web bloggers who believes that 3D is more than a gimmick, I still am not convinced that post production 3D processing is good enough for public consumption.

    ReplyDelete
  117. No, Prairie Girl. People have to repeat themselves because you aren't listening. You are not accepting their honest answers. FWIW it is very frustrating to post over and over that I am not a Babbler or a troll simply because I believe the Reeke pic from this morning in NY to be a real photograph, or that the numerous tweets and sightings are so many that these people are in a certain place. And then the more I try to convince you that I am a Jaustinite, the more you say I'm a liar?

I used to like this place but is very difficult to be here lately. Using a regular name or not has nothing to do with a comment - it's what the comment says, the viewpoint and content. Criticizing someone and making gross misinterpretations of their post simply because you don't who they are is like wanting to see who's playing the guitar before you decide if you like their music.

This blog, despite having Special's hard work, will die if you all continue by slowly killing off others. I see so many come here with valid things to say - and I'm NOT talking about the tired Babblers trying to convince you that Reeke is real and that you should give it up - yet they get taunted and dismissed.

You saw it yourself, at least 3 or 4 posters today confessed that they rarely come here anymore because of the way they are treated. Keep going like that and you'll be left with 3 posters with nothing to say. The only other alternative is to require Google Blogger names, and perhaps keep the blog under invitation/permissions only. If the blog has to go that route to get people to respect each other then I'll post under my regular name but until then I'm reluctant to post here again.

    ReplyDelete
  118. You tell me one thing, Rock Creak. Who are you. What is this regular name of yours that you are so protective of? Why hide today? Why hide now? Is it because I know you?

And no, you are not listening to me nor paying any attention whatsoever to what I was saying earlier. For crying out loud, look at my very first comment up there! I am referring to a twitter. I am acknowledging a twitter. I say no bad things about it. I don't doubt it. I am not saying any babbler posted it. This is the first time I have even typed this word today.

Good grief, talk about me reading, why in the heck don't you.

And don't even go on about woe is me, I don't post anymore, everyone picks on me, I'm a poor soul, I don't post anymore, I'm afraid to speak up anymore, I'm afraid to say anything on OMG because I'm just absolutely terrorized and harrassed.

You know what, try something else. I want to know just what you said exactly and when that got you in such hot water here. What exactly did you say and why would it be considered trollish? I want to know. I want to see specific examples and I want to hear who specifically called you these names. Back up what you're crying over and over about.

I'm starting to get pissed now. This is beyoond reason and it's starting to be harrassment on your part.

I think I know who you are, and I think you are moles for pr. You pretended for awhile to be regular posters, using different names over time, but I recognized the style over the years, then got hissy about a few things awhile back, now you come back to do this.

  122. I'm not sure what I think of PoP being in 3D. I think it can be a fun addition to some movies, but I think for most it is just a distraction. I've been reading how some people think a lot more movies will be made in 3D, but I guess I'm old fashioned, I prefer a good story to having a lot of bells and whistles.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Actually, it's not twitters themselves I object too. I take them with a large grain of salt since so many of them are made up. Its the commenter who goes on and on about them and is obviously so needy that they melt down when not given the attention they crave. But then again, that's what scroll is for. They seem to vacillate from WFT2 to here and back, trying to get attention.

I agree that there is something fishy about Jake not being at the Disney thing. Depp was there for a film 2 years away. Lots of other Disney stars were there too. And POP did not get all that much air time either. Their Reeke campaign is backfiring and the big star is just as gay as ever.

    ReplyDelete
  126. I hear what you're saying, Special.

But whether you know who Rock Creak is and Wicked knows who Rock Creak is totally irrelevant of my question to them.

I am not questioning their validity. How sick is it to be commenting on here as only a secret identity to you and Wicked? What kind of situation are we building here?

What is the big secret? And identities really isn't even my point; I'm getting off subject here.

I am asking for specific instances and who exactly told you, RC, to go away. Because I bet it was a temporary name, was it not?

I can sure tell you it wasn't me. If it was me, you can say because I would've said it under my name. I have never, ever posted on here under another name. Never. So there can be no doubt what I have said on here.

I don't appreciate being told that I'm calling people babblers & trolls when I never even use those two words to begin with. And I don't appreciate being generalized into the group who is calling commenters trolls & babblers when it is maybe one person or two who did it. That is why I want the identity of the name of the person who did this namecalling. Was it me? Was it Tom? Was it m? Was it Destiny? Who exactly called you these names during these traumatic moments?

That is my question. My question isn't who knows who you really are.

There's no growth from this, Special. This is an attempt at sabotage of the blog and nothing will convince me otherwise.

And Rock Creak? If you want sole run of this blog so you can talk however you want freely and talk with the other 3 or so who have been tragically driven away because of us horrible tormenters, why don't you don the ambassador coat and you just go at it whole hog on here. You want it?

    ReplyDelete
  127. Troll, you are the one with the problem, and your problem is gay Jake and fake Reeke.

^^^ I tried, but I couldn't resist. Your problem LOL, or aka (loney gay man).

You can't except Jake as anything but gay and you have some unnatural need for him to be gay just to satisfy your existance. Any threat to your reasoning of Jake as Gay really disrupts things in your head so you resort to the most intelligent reason you have, and that is to call anyone who gets in the way of your needs a babbler or PR. It's very obvious in your post and it's also really transparent. Apparently you don't know how stupid it sounds. BTW, if Jake is gay, what's the big deal? I'm quite sure you are gay, aren't you? And since you seem to fighting for some type of cause, why not use a real name or Identity? Don't hide in the closet under LOL.
The way you go about keeping the flame burning with Jake is gay tends to be of what was called early on as a fangirl type mentality. Or in your case a gay "fangirl".
I truly hope that you are young and not an adult, which I think you are. You really need help.

  128. Yes there were a some trollish post, with not good intentions, today but there were a lot of others who weren't trolls and were speaking with open emotion.

I really want everyone to be able to express their feelings here.

There are many times I disagree with what is said here, and many times you disagree with what I say. But it is having a space to say it and feel like you can. Some days both myself and OMG has to keep working on that lesson.

Emotions keep building and building and the emotions bigger than what was the catalyst.

Hope people step back and give themselves space, and find serenity.

I really want to find a space of balance where all people can have place here to speak.

    ReplyDelete
  129. I think it is good for people to express their feelings. But if they don't use a name people have ever seen before, they are going to put themselves at risk of being called a troll or babbler if all they are doing is going into attack mode.

  130. You can tell its the troll by their consistent spelling errors. They give themselves away every time. That said, I don't believe in censorship so if they have to come here with their Jake is really straight message and hidden agenda to turn people away from this blog, then we will have to tolerate it. I do think it strengthens us in the long run as we rally around to defend each other.

I think the troll is particularly upset because Austin & Robert showed more chemistry and affection in a 1 minute display than Reeke has ever done.

  136. Observer, I am afraid you are talking to a middle aged gal not a gay men. Which is even more puzzling isn't it?

  137. (Austin always did scare the shit out of them because it is so clear that he is gay, making it all the more likely that Jake really is gay.)

Destiny, why do you think that Austin being gay scares some people? Maybe the ones who want and need for Jake to be straight might get agitated because of the connection to Jake. Or maybe the ones who personally know Jake and think they know his true sexual identity because of being around him, but I don't think his personal friends would post here.
    And they could be wrong.

Your argument of posters being scared because Austin is really gay, is equal to some posters who post here and may be scared that Austin, or Jake, for that fact, may not be gay. It's the same. Some here are threaten and would be disappointed if Austin and Jake really were straight. Any sane person can see this. You can only hang onto what Ted alludes to for so long.
Some may go along with what Ted says for many years to come.

Gay, Straight or Bisexual, It does not make a difference to some, such as myself, but others seem to have some need for Jake or Austin to be Gay or Straight.

PR / HW = They have to be Straight

OMG / WFT2 = They have to be Gay

Average moviegoer = Rumors may or may not be true! Who Cares!

Tear it apart if you wish, but it should not make a difference, Especially if they have not been caught in the ACT.

  138. Observer has no clue that LOL is a general term used in a lot of names/posts. Observer thinks LOL is one specific person. LOL!

  139. Observer, I am afraid you are talking to a middle aged gal not a gay men. Which is even more puzzling isn't it?

Weird, are you LOL? What's puzzling is that you are a middle aged gal who is obsessed with what you think is a young gay male and ridiculing his every move and who he is with and who he dates. Although you don't really know him. And, if it matters to you. Now that's PUZZLING.

You're right: Jake has never been caught fucking a female. So he's not hetero either.

  145. Get it right Exhibit. Weird is LOL masking as Weird in his/her post. I called LOL a gay man and he/she or shim said she was a middle aged woman. Please read correctly.
I am not into twitter yet, but do it at times. You are right, I could care less about twitter if posters here believe the twitter sitings. I do know they would believe them if Austin and Jake together were mentioned.

Please don't use me to justify them calling you a troll / babbler. Stand up and fight your own battles. I scroll right past your "Twitter babbler calling" post because the subject matter did not interest me, and I suggest you do the same.

  146. It's been a day indeed.

Blog insomnia, up and wandering around trying to figure it all out. My inner Frank Constanza is yelling Serenity Now and Sleep but my head's not listening.

And checking in to see what's happening in the wee small hours of the morning.

  148. Just sat down to turn off the computer for the night and had one more thought. Someone may have already said this - I don't want to go back and reread all the comments, but I think what we are seeing from trolls is a reaction to Ted's heavy hand this week. I think he ragged on Toothy almost every day this past week, confirmed that Jake is a blind vicer by showing his picture in the line up, and mentioned that Baby Tile exists. Add to that the enormous cost of POP, which will only go up even more if they decide to add 3d to the mix, and we have some very nervous people with a lot at stake.

One question, m. How does real twitters about Reeke in NY today have to do with trolls and Ted? IA about the Reeking reaction against Ted, Cantara, the WFT mention, the baby footprint, all the things you mentioned and IMO Maggie & Peter doing the Reeke stroll is pretty obvious that something big is ahead. But the basic problem today was people like Tom saying that Twitters are posted on OMG to hurt him. When posters argued how ridiculous that was, they got called trolls and babblers.

Like I said, IA that the Reeking today in NY was a reaction and a PR photo op. The accusations here against other Jaustinites, making it look like there were a million trolls descending on OMG, had very little to do with it.

  150. Another insomniac!! Good morning! Woke up and couldn't go back to sleep.

Still waiting on my answer too, I see. Oh well, it is a new day and for gosh sakes, let's talk about something else.

Heavy sigh. I see now someone still wants to take up that tired argument. How interesting is this that there's silence on this subject for hours since most people went to bed but the minute m gets on here and says something, pop!! immediately here comes another doggone comment about that nameless thing which is just eating at someone's ulcer.

It's an obssession. I'm changing the subject, sorry.
I'll start up by being totally D'd over having to go back to work this morning. :(

Major cubemate is out all week on her own vacay and so it's not going to be fun. I anticipate frequent late nights.

Ted did throw out a heavy hand this past week. The yogurt pictures were absolutely awful. The baby footprint may have really gotten Jake in trouble.

Jake may have been paying for it his weekend. Possibly. Just sayin'.

I just don't know why they don't know when to quit a losing game. They just keep trying to strap on the duct tape and going back out onto the field despite being able to go at only 25-30%. How stupid is that.

Emailing and making corrections/updating in Word at 3 in the morning. lol. Now I know I am crazy.

  151. Yeah, be glad, sienna. lol. Good to see you anyway!

I think it's important to reiterate that I count myself as one of a core that is not going away. I may get hacked & take breaks, but I am not going away.

So PR, you can just dig yourselves in a little bit further too if you want. Cause OMG is not fading off in to the sunset. Some of us are firmly entrenched here. Put that in your teabag and dip it, alright?

5th comment on the post, from Tom: "I have decided to ignore all tweets. I have no clue why people post them. They are meaningless. From now on I only believe things when I see a picture. People post them to make us feel bad. I wish they stop but for sure they wont. I dont understand why folks want to make other people feel bad."

^^ When people brought up various points such as there indeed was a pic today, that if there were Jaustin twitters those would get posted too and no, people don't post twitters or any links to "hurt" anyone, those people unfairly got called trolls and babblers.

The problem is that many of you skimmed over the posts (can't say I blame you with how many there are today) and saw the words "troll" and "babbler" and assumed that there were a myriad of Jake+Reese supporters here arguing that they were real because of the recent Toothy coverage and other eye-opening events. Granted there might have been one or two, Observer/weird included (lol), but other than that nothing could be farther from the truth. Sadly it was all OMGers against OMGers. The blanket definition of "troll" and "babbler" apparently includes any person who discusses the contents of twitters.

I fully expect to be called a troll and a babbler because I used the word "twitter" in my comment and talked about it. *sigh*

I see now someone still wants to take up that tired argument.

Prairie Girl, if a poster wants to discuss something you are free to use the scroll wheel on your mouse. It would also be courteous of you to bypass making any belittling remarks about their post as well. There have been many posts of yours, Prairie Girl, that I have scrolled by but as a matter of common courtesy I did not make any digs at them.

  155. Nothing wrong with a little Hatfield & McCoy action, 16:35. FamilIes don't always get along.

The thing is it's a new day and OMG is still here, thank you very much Special & Wicked for not shutting the thing down.

Still breathing. Still going to have a good time.

17:35, also free to comment on anything I wish to, including other comments. Aparently, your scroll isn't working either.

    Still. Here.

  157. Okay, here's another theory to throw out there, lol.

A Reeke Summit. Perhaps sister Maggie & brother in law Peter S. trying to talk sense into Reese to let the guy go and find herself her own man or whatever it is she needs to get back at her ex.

Perhaps trying to help head off a disastrous lifechanging decision in the works or being bantied about.

Hey, tonight is OTH with a little Buckin going on. I hope they at least let Brulian have a bit of happiness before they throw the angst in. And being a soap opera, you know they're going to have to have some angst.

Perhaps when Brulian has troubles this season, Julian could seek some rejuvenation & solace in one, uh, what's his character name, I have no idea? Buckles.

    I think that's a heckuva script idea.

Great walk. Now begins the tedious ritual of getting ready for work. heavy sigh. The Big D is really starting to set in my bones now. The only consolation I take is that I get to see my little buddy and see the ol' B man, our new guy in the office. He's a crack up and I know he's going to be glad to see me. He hates doing some of my stuff while I'm gone, lol.

  159. I guess People is trying to catch up on the stories laying in their file. Interesting since Jake was in Pitt last week and Reese was in Philly.

    • Jake Gyllenhaal, shopping hand in hand with Reese Witherspoon, hit Madison, a boutique in Brentwood, Calif. The two were flirty while they browsed the clothes, looking for items for Witherspoon. The actress paid special attention to the ALC collection, but she left without buying anything.

Reeke is a business arrangement - Reeke will be over when the contract expires. I don't think there is a chance for Reese to find a boyfriend soon and terminate the contract.
