Busy Signal?

Glancing over Ted last night saw something in a completely different post he did totally unrelated to Jake, PoP, Austin, Reeke, Sophin, Toothy or Goose. He was talking about the show Cougar Town. And something caught my eye:

We caught Busy Philipps
—the deliciously ditzy Laurie on the hit show—as she tried to sneak into Grauman's Chinese Theatre unnoticed for the Prince of Persia premiere last night.

Seems odd if you are on a hit show that were were trying to sneak in. Missed the red carpet on purpose? Running late?

There was something about it. Something something something.

Now if you don't know Busy is Mathilda godmother and great friend of Michelle's who was there for them both after losing Heath. So she and Jake are godparents, there's that link.

And just a few days ago Busy was in a mention in about Austin at the LA Farmer's market with Jana and Sophia. They weren't there together with Busy but just another funky link.

Feeling nothing is coincidence it was a like a karmic pointer about who else could have been sneaking into catch Jake. Now don't think it was there Monday before the premiere or that night because it was, but it came to mind again last night so strong.

And then an email this morning was this question? Did you see this in Gawker?
friend in LA texted me outside the Prince of Persia premiere @ Grauman's Chinese as the stars were exiting. she saw J. Gyllenhaal w/ Austin Nichols, Tom Cruise w/ an unidentified man (yes, a man!), Billy Bob Thornton, Nic Cage, Ben Kingsley, Bruckheimer, Alanis, Gemma Arterton, and Alfred Molina

Must say there were was much happy happy joy joy in emails back and forth.

So to that wonderful person who has earned so many gold stars over the years. You have earned not only a jewel in your crown, but the whole damn crown, and wheelbarrow full of jewels.
Thank you Thank you Thank you.

  1. All things connect - I agree - but I believe that Austin wasn't there.

BTW, what would be the point of going to the premiere "with Jake", and then hiding and not being with Jake?

  2. Uh oh! Jake claiming to be a Laker and Celtics fan is stirring it up on the Lakers forum.

    Lakers Forum

If you don't know there is an intense rivalry between the Lakers and Celtics. For Jake to say he's both, well... as Prince (not the one from Persia) would say ---CONTROVERSY!

  3. They were seen exiting together. Can totally see Austin not doing the red carpet meeting Jake inside to watch it, and them slipping out together.

Honestly don't think he would miss the biggest premiere of his hubby's career.

And think he's done that before for other things.

Still think he is the "friend" that was walking into the Oscars when Jake introduced Rachel as the mother of his children.

    ReplyDelete
  4. So Austin went home while Jake went to the after party and then went to another party (Leo and Orlando)?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Oh you want to discount this big time.

The party with Leo and Orlando was as it was reported uber exclusive and a perfect place for Austin to be able to be with Jake.

Just as the pre-Oscar party that JAke was reported attending and hanging out, we saw a picture of man at the same party that was pretty much a ringer for Austin from what saw in the picture.

  6. After years of bearding Jake wouldn't bring Austin to the PoP premiere and risk getting pictures out and pissing Jerry off.

Okay, I know that the regulars are going to start saying "people sure are trying hard to discount this sighting" but I've triple checked and Alfred Molina was not at this premiere. That, coupled with the fact that anyone can post a sighting on Gawker, suggests that this sighting is a fake.

  13. "Straight" Jake isn't stupid.

  14. Exactly, non-valid. Pics or it didn't happen. Oh but this is OMG, where that phrase doesn't count if it's a made up sighting WITH AUSTIN.

That may be true, but it doesn't change the fact that Alfred didn't go to this premiere. And it doesn't change the fact that anyone can post a sighting on gawker. So that leaves you with a whole lot of nothing. But I'm feeling nice, so I'll go over to datalounge and post a sighting of Jake and Austin together at the prem, just for you.

Might we give you a few suggestions, Gem? Besides that aforementioned killer bod, Jake's goofball 'tude (when he's not trying too hard to be Hollywood) and dimples for days are total turn-ons. Hey, the dude may be a dating disaster, but, we can't help but love him.

  26. Count me as another one skeptical of the Gawker sighting. Too easy to make up, no pictures, I believe the DL comment about PR working overtime to make sure Jake is seen as straight therefore it would be crazy to take that chance, etc. Also, I just don't think movie premieres are that big of a deal to the stars, unlike being nominated for an award.

ITA with Faked too. This isn't Gyllenbabble where you have to buy the party line on everthing. People who are in agreement that J&A are together have very different ideas on everything else. And given all the reactions above, wouldn't surprise me if that sighting wasn't posted by one of our trolls.

M, I thought you had some very good points about Jake in your post on the previous thread. I think Jake feeds off the attention he gets from interviews, red carpets, etc., and gives him confidence that may not be there when all the attention dies down.

  27. lol.

I knew that would sound the alarms.

Hey, even if it's false, it's giving me an awesome laugh here at work to see people's bvd's all knitted in a knot.

  28. I'm still taking it.
    And I'm praying it's true.

This was a big deal, I disagree, Destiny. It was a big deal for him personally. He was out there on his own without his folks or sister around him. And he did it.

For all the comments he gets about being needy and all that, this was one occasion where the fact where he steps up needs to be pointed out.

It was a big deal. And I would love it if Austin was there to share in it with him.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I'm with you pg, even if it is a false sighting its pretty amusing to see certain posters getting their knickers into such a twist.

I particularly like the argument that just because Austin was reported as being at the after party he just couldn't have been there. Surely the whole point of having exclusive, private after parties is that people who 'shouldn't' be there can be.

    ReplyDelete
  30. 1:51 should read... reported as NOT being at the after party.

Either kind gets bunched don't you think?

    ReplyDelete
  32. I kind of doubt Molina was at the premiere, so that also makes me question the sighting.

First, no pictures of him either.

Second, he's currently in a play on Broadway, Red. Now they don't have shows on Monday night, but he would have to be back for a 7 p.m. show on Tuesday. That means probably taking a redeye back, to be safe. Plus he would have had to take a late flight after the Sunday matinee or an early flight on Monday to get there in time. I just don't think it is likely that someone who is not the lead in a movie would do all of that when he has a very legitimate reason for not being there--or do all of that, and then not get himself in even one photo????

    ReplyDelete
  33. Billy Bob was there. Nic Cage there. Alanis Morrissette there. Tom Cruise there. Ben Kingsley - check. Gemma - check. Bruckheimer - check.

  47. IHJ has a new (?) interview up of Jake with OK! magazine.

Jake talks about cooking and says "I found a real meditation to it and a way of expressing, in my opinion, love."

You can have love for your friends and your parents/siblings, but it doesn't sound like this is the kind of love Jake is talking about here.
It sounds like he's talking about the romantic kind of love or the love a parent would have for his children.
We know that Austin manages to mess up even something as simple as a milkshake, so I think that Jake's probably the main cook in that household. Interesting that he seems to use his cooking skills to show Austin how much he appreciates him.

Also interesting that he later very firmly says that he believes in long-lasting relationships. That's usually not something you hear from someone who is trying to paint himself as being devastated about having just been dumped or as hooking up with women in bars.

Ted had no problem mentioning Jake and Austin in NY in 2007, remember the digital dance based on a sighting that was sent in? That was an outing, the Gawker sighting is an event, he would be safe.

How is the sighting credible becasue of the Cruise mention? Everyone knows he was there and with the gay rumors, why not say that he was there with a man?

  50. Check out the action scene clip from the beginning of the movie. Wow.

    An IGNer at Heart

The highly-anticipated Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time hits theaters in a little over a week (this week, actually, if you live in the UK), so to help promote the film Prince Dastan himself -- Jake Gyllenhaal -- decided to stop by the IGN offices to take over editorial duties for the day. And believe me when I tell you, he didn't come empty-handed!

First up is this exclusive action scene from the opening of the film -- a sequence from the Persian assault on the sacred city of Alamut. After overseeing the processing of the clip (between you and me, he's got some mean quality control measures!), he sat down with our video crew for a very candid and in-depth conversation. On the talking block were a number of topics:

    Jake on Music

Not the same thing, that was reported to Ted by a third party. Seeing Austin and Jake together, being reported by Ted himself, ups the credibility. Or am I wrong in assuming Ted reported directly about seeing Busy at the premiere?

I love the idea of Jake and Austin together, and having a long-lasting relationship.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Would Jake really talk to Okay? More likely they cobble together something from other interviews.

The bit about long-term relationships fits with the "Reese dumped him because she was not ready to marry him" story, and again makesa him look like a straight man who is very interested in family even if he is single image. Whichb is not to say it is not also true.

  54. I believe the sighting. It's random enough to think it's true. The person doesn't make a big deal out of seeing Austin. It's just mentioning the people who was there and the sighting seems to be more focused on Tom Cruise. I believe Austin was there with Jake. It's very easy to avoid the press and photographers if they skip the red carpet.

Cooking can truly be a love gift. It's nurturing. From start to finish, just thinking about what you want to make for them, finding the food, making it, sharing it with them and seeing them enjoy it. Knowing what they like and don't like, making their favorite for them, making that one thing that comforts them or helps the less that great day be better.

My step mom is the same way, baking for her is like that. How can it not be when she makes everyone in the family there favorite pie at Thanksgiving. Which ends up being like 16. She even makes one she would never eat because its your favorite. (like there are some of us in the family that love raisin pie and she can't stand raisins)

On another subject, I saw this today." New Timelord Matt, 27, stars as writer Christopher Isherwood in new BBC biopic Christopher And His Kind, based on Isherwood's 1976 memoir of the same name, and 17-year-old Burberry model Douglas will play his lover. Isherwood is invited to live in decadent Berlin in the 1930s by his friend, the poet WH Auden, played by Pip Carter, where he meets a street cleaner played by Douglas and they become lovers. ... The 90 minute drama also stars Lindsay Duncan, who recently portrayed Baroness Thatcher for BBC Two, as Isherwood's mother, with whom the writer has a "suffocating relationship". Sounds like a good story and I am fascinated by Isherwood.

  71. Well Monday is the only day there are no performances of Red and Tuesday’s Broadway performance didn’t start until 7 p.m. so it was certainly logistically possible for him to fly in from New York. Given the narrow window of opportunity, however, it’s possible that Molina may not have known if he could attend the L.A. Premiere so, therefore was not officially listed as part of the Red Carpet ceremony or Bruckheimer celebration. Still he may have flown in out of respect for Jerry and to support the film since he couldn’t attend the London or Moscow events because of his play. If the person who texted her friend outside of Grauman's Chinese was just making stuff up to work in Austin Nichols as one of the backdoor attendees, I don’t think that poster would have been so detailed in her/his list of celebrities. Even making sure to point out the added detail that Tom Cruise was with another guy.

  72. Interesting that he later very firmly says that he believes in long-lasting relationships.
Usually that's not something you hear from someone trying to paint himself as having just been dumped or hooking up with women at bars.

I would be surprised if Jake really gave an interview to OK! Probably cobbled together from other sources. And even if it is true of Jake, I still find it very consistent with the "macho single straight male who is just looking for the right woman to settle down and have a family with" image they are pushing of Jake.

It is consistent with all those stories about jake asking Reese to marry him and her not wanting to do it, and consistent with the story about the relationship ending because he wanted to get more serious and she didn't.

I also don't see why a single guy flirting with women at a party is a bad image for Disney. It's not like he's doing it and he has a girlfriend back at home. I think Disney and Jake's people are very much behind that video.

And don't forget POP is a tentpole movie, so they want everybody, not just families and children. Seems to me I recall Special saying she thought straight single and available was exactly what they wanted to promote POP. In Disney's mind I'm sure they think the Jake in the Russian video would appeal to men and women in their teens and 20s. the out having a good time like that also fits the stories of Reese thinking Jake isn't really ready to settle down.

    Everything ties in together.

  75. I would like to know WHY some people find that gawker sighting to be completely off the mark and untrue? We know that Austin and Jake (even if you don't think they're lovers or have been that in the past) are close and have hung out a lot. Just because you're not papped doesn't mean there's no relationship/friendship.
I remember four years ago Gawker had a sighting in which someone claimed they saw Jake and Austin on crutches in a Virgin record store. A bunch of trolls complained to gawker that the sighting was not true (Austin and Jake hadn't been seen together in months so it COULDN'T be true). Gawker contacted the person who made the sighting and he/she insisted he/she saw what they saw. Then later on we found out it was true and Austin REALLY had been on crutches (which no one know about) because he had broken his leg while skateboarding and was about to start filming "John of Cincinnati."

Granted this gawker sighting was not first-hand but there's NO reason to discount it just because Austin/Jake haven't been seen PUBLICLY (as in photographed) together in over a year.

  76. Just watched the ESPN video. Cute. I think Jake just wiped out any "straightening" achieved by the dancing with girls.

  77. Well, now I see a bunch of comments from earlier in the evening, including my original one about the OK! article, with all the typos, lol. The really weird thing is I could swear I saw it posted, because I was shaking my head at all the mistakes, and knew I couldn't fix it until I got home.

Strange indeed Special. Well, at least I know I'm not totally losing my mind.

  78. Well I think Blogger is finally catching up with stuff. It must have weirded out for awhile. It just happened to be the day I make a post about Jake and Austin being together at the premiere of course.

You thought you were losing your mind Destiny. I had zoomed right that and it was closer to ledge city.

  80. Watching all the videos, I noticed that Jake mentioned a music website he visits.

Please, M, could you point what video that is or what music website?? Please, I beg you. Of course I'm gonna try to find out by myself but in case I miss it... Please?

  81. Here's the Music video I think M was talking about.

  82. I made some comments that did not show up so I guess they got lost. Too tired to remember them now, maybe they'll come back to me tomorrow. Austin has said that Jake cooked for him often all during Day After.

Gawker used to be very careful about their site checking everything. Not sure if that is still true as I don't visit there often enough. I think they are a pretty reliable site.

  83. What always makes me laugh about the reaction to any possible Jake Austin connections is that IF Jake as straight as an arrow as some people insist, what would be the problem with Austin (in the role of long time friend) attending any event / party / cycling excursions. The presence of Austin at the PoP premiere could easily be explained as Jake bringing along a good pal as he now sadly doesn't have Reese to support him.

If someone is so certain there is and has never been any romantic involvement between Jake and Austin why it is so important that they prove that the two could not be seen together. They're just good friends aren't they.

  84. Wow, that opening sequence is great, I like the background music too. Jake gives his portrayal of an action hero something more, a human quality, and all of the scenery and action is amazing. I saw Robin Hood over the weekend, a story close to my heart and I was blown away by it, the best version I have seen, but this might even rival that.

I thought the SC clip was cute too. :)

  85. Gawker used to be very careful about their site checking everything.

Gawker or any other site can not verify sightings because that is not possible.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I would like to know WHY some people find that gawker sighting to be completely off the mark and untrue?

Because no one beards for years and then hides a boyfriend during his big movie premiere, and because the person lied about seeing Alfred Molina.

  87. I don't have time to say much because I've got to get into work but Meg, good point made. What is the big deal. There isn't.

Special, thanks for posting the link to the ESPN shot; I can't wait to watch it tonight.

And I don't ever have a problem with moderation. I know I sure wouldn't hesitate to use it whenever I wanted. That's the privilege and a right of owning a blog. Whether or not it was just a blogger kink, we all can remember that any of us can be zapped at any given moment, lol. Kind of makes us behave, I think.

Simple, that's simply not good enough of an argument.

I'll say again what I erased earlier.

And that is that Hollywood protects its own. It's part of that professional and union brotherhood protective arms part of a community.

  88. dropping the leather on SCMay 20, 2010 at 6:42 AM

"He sure brought up leather quick"

"Its an ESPN inside joke, the leather reference. I cant believe he actually went there with it lol. Chris Berman gonna be pissed lol"

"Okay, he gets props for that. I cant believe he went there. But he dodged and went around it, he should have just dropped the phrase."

"BTW, for those of you who dont get the leather references. Its an inside joke:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/You%27re_with_me,_leather
    http://deadspin.com/166570/youre-with-me-leather
Someone behind the scenes at ESPN must have put him up to it."

It is if you use common sense.

That's quite an assumption you're making. Just because some people don't simply take an anonymous second-hand posting as gospel truth doesn't mean that they never thought there was anything between J&A or that either one of them are straight. It simply means that they are using their brains and logic and common sense and not believing something because you want it to be true. destiny has stated she doesn't believe Molina was there and questioned the sighting. Does she think Jake is straight or that there is nothing between J&A? Not everything is either/or.

  91. Ted might not mention Austin, because he has said he wouldn't out anyone. To mention Austin would be just as good as outing.
Don't think Ted would mention either.

Is this some kind of joke?

Ted mentioned Toothy doing drugs, having sex with bigwigs, having a kid with his boyfriend, but he wouldn't mention Toothy and GG attending the movie premiere?

  93. Austin talking about on set with Jake for TDAT and cooking together in YM magazine.

The online link is gone. But ANJ had a transcript in their archives. (Thanks Spooky and Vespy!)

Hardest part to film: His scenes with Jake. "He was always making faces at me, trying to crack me up," says Austin. "It usually worked too. I was trying to be all serious and I'd see him sticking his tongue out and I'd lose it."

Fave on-set pastime: Cooking with Jake. They usually make Mexican food, but Austin's most proud of their make-it-up-as-you-go-along chicken dish. "We put three full chickens in a huge pan with shallots, garlic, onions, radishes, and seasoning." Sounds tasty.

YM Magazine April 2004 - The Day After Tomorrow - ANJ

Looked like Jake owned up to making it hard for Austin.

This is from YM - June 2004 again courtesy of ANJ.

Jake : I especially love messing with Austin [Nichols, who plays a rich kid who also wants to date laura]. He'll do a take and I'll say, "youre not reallly going to do that are you?"

  94. Jake clearly has a "problem" with being seen in public with Austin, unlike, say, Leo and his BFF.

Now what I want to know is who is that guy Daniel Craig was with in a gay bar in Venice, and supposedly seen kissing out on the street.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Wow, Mr. James Bond.

I will say this and I agree with you, Destiny, in that I think Jake's people were behind that Dancing with The Girls video. If they could keep that last super-uber-private post Premiere gala behind closed doors, then they can control it anytime.

  96. What I want to know about is with all that hot n spicy Mexican cooking going on in those TDAT trailers, was there anything actually produced?

I reckon they could've come up with some great pet names.

    my little chimichanga

    my tantalizing tostada

wrap me up, my tough tortilla
