Hoop Dreams

It's all tied up with The Lakers and The Celtics and the series is back in Beantown.

Now Jake said he was a fan of both. But these pictures show a man who just lived a boyhood dream.

Back on December 2, 2006 Jake got to have a lunch with Magic Johnson. One of the greatest players in the history of The Lakers. Magic was the face of The Lakers and in the 80's he and Larry Bird from The Celtics personified the rivalry between the two teams.

You can just see the little boy in Jake.
Jake might say he's a Celtics fan, but don't know if he would have that look meeting Larry Bird.
Beat LA!

Jewelry, GG ads and "photoshopped" pictures - everything is better than discussing another Austin's "Jake who?! I'm dating a woman!" shoutout.

  2. I have zero memory of these pictures or that he met Magic Johnson. Even though Jake is looking a lot better post-Reeke, seeing old pictures like this I can't help but think we still haven't seen a complete return of the confident, care-free Jake.

  4. Career advice. Veteran Hollywood journalist Anne Thompson offers some analysis of Jake Gyllenhaal's career in the wake of the "Prince of Persia" debacle. (Is debacle too strong? How about disappointment?) Thompson says "Prince of Persia" "didn't change the popular perception of Gyllenhaal as a likable leading man best suited to naturalistic dramas. There's still a sizable gap between the rising star's acting bona fides and his ability to put butts in seats." One valid point Thompson makes is that Gyllenhaal's appeal is more to women than men so action movies might not be his strong suit. Guess he'll just have to go back to making thoughtful dramas. 5. I know there are not really any Bomer/White Collar fans on here, but I'm going to double-post this on here and WFT2.

Last night the Paley Center in NYC had a discussion with the cast of White Collar, just like they did in LA last month.

It was a lot of fun, and Bomer was beyond adorable. Jeans, a pale lavender (I think) shirt with a beige jacket, glasses, the ring.

    Some highlights:

Towards the end they opened it up to questions from the audience, and someone said they thought one of the themes of the show was love, even between the two guys, and asked if that was something that was planned from the beginning. Bomer turned to McKay and gave him a big old bromance hug. One of the producers was there (not the creator) and he answered that it hadn't been planned that way, but they realized it after seeing a scene in the pilot (haven't seen it) when they two guys were driving in a car and talking about their wife/Kate.

Another awww momemt, Bomer said one of the things he loved about the show was that the whole family could watch it together because it wasn't too racy or violent.

Finally at one point an Asian woman got up and told the actress playing the lesbian FBI agent how wonderful it was to have a woman of color playing a lesbian character on tv, and asked if we'd be seeing her characters girlfriend and more LGBT characters on the show. Nobody would talk about the upcoming seaon, but she hinted that the woman should defintely stick around because there were going to be lots of interesting developments with her character.

  6. Anne Thompson's article is predictably another Hollywood circle-the-wagons whitewash of Jake's so-called "speculation about his sexuality." The example chosen is an affair with Lance Armstrong?!! Give me a break. In other words, the writer mentions the gay rumors swirling around Jake, but picks an example that, at the very least, is largely discredited and one that briefly circulated back in the summer of 2006. The credibility of this article is even more suspect because Thompson also indicates that she is writing about current gossip. If that really were the case, she would have mentioned Austin Nichols, not Lance Armstrong. Then she goes on to make the PR approved/sanctioned statement that Kirsten Dunst was the love of Jake's life. Actually, it was Kirsten who said that about Jake, not vice versa. Another gross inaccuracy is that Thompson states that KD and Jake had an on and off again relationship for two years after they broke up in July 2004. Like Sophia Bush, sort of playing with timelines again so we can wipe away those Lakers photos from February, 2006, as well as the rest of the talk about town regarding Jake's sexuality. What a joke! Remember this nonsense from March, 2006, when Jake's people would trying to squelch the coupling rumors with Austin:

The couple jointly own two dogs, Boo Radley and Atticus, and a friend of Jake’s believes the pooches will bring them back together.

“They still see a lot of each other because of the dogs,” the friend has explained.

“Maybe because of that, they haven’t really moved on from each other so it’s got to the point where they both feel maybe they should be together.”

“They enjoy the same things and are under the same pressures from their work so they might just make it work after all.”

    Riiiight.

Current Gossip: After Gyllenhaal broke up in 2004 with the love of his life, actress Kirsten Dunst, he continued an on/off relationship with her for two years. Post-'Brokeback,' he good-humoredly shrugged off speculation about his sexuality, including a rumored affair with pal Lance Armstrong. Gyllenhaal met Reese Witherspoon in 2006 on the set of 'Rendition,' soon after her divorce from Ryan Phillippe, but that relationship ended at Thanksgiving. Gyllenhaal insists that he enjoys being single.

  10. I hadn't clicked through to read the article until I saw your comments M and M--I'd seen excerpts at wft2, but not the bit about his personal life.

I think you're right about what is going on and the white-washing. But is she just trying to address the elephant in the room, or does her article give legs to something that people were not saying--i.e., that it failed because people think Jake is gay.

Sadly nothing Jake or Disney did the past couple of years really targeted men. Come on, what straight man is going to want to go to a movie after the producer goes on about how good looking Jake and his abs are? Everything was directed at women, from the US Reeke covers (and a whipped little boy image) to the photos of Jake without his shirt from POP.

Honestly, I don't even think it is a gay problem. I think it's a "sensitive" guy as an action hero problem. I think sensitive guys don't appeal to men, whether the actor is gay or straight.

In contrast, Jackman, for all of his musical theater background, comes off as a swaggering guy type. I think NPH comes off the same way.

    ReplyDelete
  11. And before someone jumps all over me for it, I like sensitive guy types, and see nothing wrong with them. I just think that unfortunatley in our society that does not appeal to a lot of people. Americans still by and large buy into the tough guy, gu-slinging image as being what a "man" is. ANd maybe that is why POP has done better over seas.

  12. I think you're right about what is going on and the white-washing. But is she just trying to address the elephant in the room, or does her article give legs to something that people were not saying--i.e., that it failed because people think Jake is gay.

Hey, Destiny. I agree there is a provocative subtext, and Thompson did, at least, mention the gay rumors, but then she throws a camouflage jacket over that pink elephant by saying don’t look over there, look over here where, of course, there is nothing to see. I agree that Jake has more appeal when it comes to the ladies and teeny boppers, but would add, “thinking men,” to that list as well. I laughed with the director of PoP kept using the line about Jake appealing to “thinking women” because I don’t buy into the notion that women have to be particulary bright or sophisticated to recognize Jake’s many "charms". In fact, I know quite a few women who just go crazy over his eyes and sculpted abs, smile, and quirky humor. But, the men Jake appeals to most tend to be independent thinker types and often, if not formally educated, then at the very least cosmopolitan and open to experience. The heteroflexible types, if you will.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Ha! herteroflexible.

    That's cute.

  14. For what it's worth, one of my gay male friends (who saw SAT2) who is a HUGE movie buff and has written on the subject over the years, has no interest in seeing POP even though he thinks Jake is a good actor (he thought he was great in Brothers and of course BBM), and the first thing he said to me when the subject of POP came up is that he feels that Jake just cannot carry a movie like POP and that he couldn't believe he did a movie like this. Although he felt the real problem is that Jake just isn't the kind of actor/personality that can carry a big film. He also just doesn't have interest in what he views as yet another mediocre action film.

I haven't had a chance to discuss it with my heteroflexible movie-mad friend--the one who loves a good Broadway musical as much as he loves a good action film.

So, based on a survey of one, maybe the kind of men who'd go to Jake's movies just weren't interested in POP itself???

    ReplyDelete
  15. I would add to your comment Destiny that out of the guys I know, the ones that would normally see PoP type movies weren't interested because Jake was in it.

Not for homophobic reasons, at all, none of them ever once said anything about Jake being gay or possibly gay. They just think it was horribly miscast which in their minds equals the whole movie being disappointing. Ask any of them and they'd give you a whole long list of other actors they would have loved to see in the role.

Also, for the record many of them loved Jake in The Good Girl, Zodiac and Jarhead (and BBM for the guys who saw it).

    ReplyDelete
  16. The only reason they saw The Good Girl was because Jennifer Aniston was in it. ;-) and the ones who saw BBM it's because their girlfriends dragged them.

They are literally guys who only see one of two types of films: action and thrillers. That's it. They rarely deviate.

    Plus they play video games.

Exactly who needed to see PoP for it to succeed.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Yep.

It was probably also a big mistake to put it up against SAT2. If women hadn't been going to that with their girlfriends, some of them may have dragged their boyfriends/husbands to POP.

It looks like families went to Shrek, women to SAT2, and some men to POP, with the rest of the men staying home to watch basketball and hockey, and a lot of people in general not going to any movies over Memorial Day.

    ReplyDelete
  18. So, based on a survey of one, maybe the kind of men who'd go to Jake's movies just weren't interested in POP itself???

I agree. When I made my comment, I wasn't focusing on PoP as a movie so much as just Jake as an actor, in general. Frankly, even the most open-minded men I know were not interested in seeing PoP. Sorry, Jake, but all the pilates and yoga in the world couldn't inspire any of my male friends to be that "flexible!" (((Jake)))

    ReplyDelete
  19. "Open-minded men"???
Sorry, but reading your comments it looks like american men are just narrow minded.

Oversea audiences obviously don´t think Jake was "miscast" without even watching the film....

Circular Logic, are you new to blogging? I mean, seriously.

Who else do you go to when you want an opinion on something? Do you go to the next town and stand on a street corner? Poll strangers? Or maybe when you go to the pool, you survey people as they're getting ready to climb the ladder to the high board.
Oh, I know! Maybe only family members are allowed & trusted. So the phone bill goes up as you call all the aunts, cousins, nieces & nephews whenever you want an opinion on something.

Perfect description of the usual homophobic "straight" guys - and one of the reasons why actors like Jake never will come out.

If this is what you believe, then right, he will never, ever come out. And nobody else would ever, ever come out either.

Why does everything always have to revolve around being homophobic?

Not everything in life revolves around sexuality.

If he really, really wants to ever come out, he will.

Otherwise, we may as well all just pick up our toys, pack our bags and go home. Because life is just too hard.

  31. Anne Thompson has been around for a long time. Sounds like she hasnt paid too much attention to Jake but for sure she has heard the rumors.

I am not sure why PoP was such a disaster in America. I just dont think it appealed to any fanbase in general. I dont think the video was the type of video that gamers were that interested in. PoP has done much better in Europe though. There will be no sequel and I am happy about that. I think so much has been said about Jake being wrong for the parts he has taken. Jake has got find his niche and go with it. he needs to sit down and reevaluate where he wants to go in his career. Hopefully his next two movies will do well. I think playing Joe Namath would be another disaster. The Damn Yankees sure sounds good to me.

  32. At least you have a fair assessment Tom. It's very strange that some here and at WFT2 were hoping he would fail. I don't think he has, but the thought that people would wish that upon him and be happy about it is evil. I have read comments that said just that.

  33. Oversea audiences obviously don´t think Jake was "miscast" without even watching the film....

There was no mention in my post about Jake being miscast because of his perceived orientation , ergo that's why my male friends did not want to see PoP. The premise (storyline) of the film did not interest them at all. They like Jake as an actor. Respect him even. But, had no desire to see another Bruckheimer boiler plate yawner, with minimalist dialogue and large doses of CGI. They and I think Jake is far too gifted for this kind of nonsense and they could care less about who he chooses to love. Those folks who repeatedly brush regular posters with a broad homophobic invective reveal themselves all too clearly. Reductionist thinkers need to look in the mirror and see what discriminatory, baseless certitude is all about.

There is some truth to that. I did not go see the movie because it represented everything to me that changed Jake from this relly fun cool guy who I really believe is Gay into somebody I didnt even reckonize or like. It was hard to watch. I hope its over but I dont think it is.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Actually, I found people professing to boycott Jake's film on WFT2, far more than on this blog. Only a few individuals indicated that they didn't want to see PoP on OMG. As Tom has graciously admitted, he was one who was quite honest in his viewpoint. I never took his rejection of PoP to be a rejection of Jake. Many of us went to see the film just to support Jake as a performer whom we admire and respect. Normally, I would never see a film like this, but given my fondness for Jake as a man and a professional, I plopped down my money, like alot of people opening day weekend. It's called being able to objectively hold two opposing viewpoints at the same time.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Well said M and M. I dont think anyone ever tried to convince anyone to see or not to see the movie. Everyone made their own choice and no one took any heat from anyone else. I am sure hoping we can all enjoy LAOD without Jake bearding again. We know whose turn that is now.

Say what you want about Austin showing that ring but it is pretty apparent he wants someone to see it. Most men would have their hand down by their side or in their pocket in a pic like that.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I went to go see PoP and I loved it!!

I had a great time. No, it wasn't a serious movie. It wasn't meant to be Gone With the Wind.

It was 2 hours to just sit in a theatre and have fun. That's all I ever ask. But again, I'm not a "serious" moviegoer. I don't like violence and I don't like drugs and movies about war, etc.

I think Jake did fine. Yeah, there were some cheesy lines and I wish they had shown some of those fighting moves from a further distance back but oh well.

I did not want the movie to fail. I didn't want to see him embarrassed.

    ReplyDelete
  43. You know, I used to criticize singers like Donny Osmond & David Cassidy for trying to break away from their goody image. I used to roll my eyes when Jim Carrey wanted to try drama instead of comedy. I thought he needed to stick with comedy because it's what he did best and who wanted to see him be serious?

But as I've gotten older, I admire anyone for at least trying to grow, to push themselves or try something new. Why? Because I usually don't do that myself. I like my comfort zones and being "safe".

I wish I was more like some of these other people who go for it. So what if you fail? So what if it doesn't go as well as you hoped? At least you tried. And you throw enough paint at the canvas, something great just might stick.

I know movies are different because you have people backing them up with alot of money and no one wants to lose money. Sometimes, it's only 1 strike and you're out.

But if there was a part of Jake that truly, truly wanted to just make a movie because it looked fun and he wanted to be an action hero for once instead of having to work himself up 16 hrs a day being teary and angry and all serious, then I say why in the heck not.

We never know what's going to work unless we try. I wish I tried alot more than I do but I'm too much of a scaredy cat. So because I see things differently, that's why I don't criticize his choice on this movie. I know I'd sure hate to try a different career or a big risky business move and see the entire world watch me fail. I think I'd crawl right under a rock and never come out.

lol. Man, it was bad enough this afternoon when myself & my big buddy both missed an important email which resulted in us shipping some product that we were supposed to save for customers instead of a sister plant. So therefore, we had to short some customers and we're going to short a few more tomorrow. Luckily, the BB was pretty nice about it and just wanted to see how we could avoid this kind of error in the future. It's always embarrassing whenever I make a mistake at work. Been a few times I went to the bathroom & cried about it. I can't imagine doing it and having the entire world see. Man. At least I can say it on here and no one can see my face. LOLLL!

**sigh**. It's really not funny. But oh well. We're all just human.

  45. I would like to see Jake come out, but his not doing so is not the reason why I haven't gone to see POP.

The reason I haven't gone is because he bearded, actively lied to his fans, pushed straight as the only acceptable lifestyle and willingly went along with becoming tabloid fodder for some of the worst written pr dreck I've ever read in my life. Everyone has a different opinion as to why he bearded, but personally I think he did it mostly for POP.

I think he and Disney thought he needed to be super straight for POP, and not just single and available.

I think he thought having a family image would bring in all the families--and what better way to do that than a beard with children to play stepfather to--all while hiding his own.

I think he thought bearding with "America's sweetheart" would bring him all kinds of new fans, and that Reeke would be the new Brangelina, and make him that A-list star who can open a big movie.

After the new pictures with Austin came out I thought about my decision again to not see POP--but then new Sophin photos confirm that it is business as usual.

And now I do think Jake has put himself in another bind, and that it is just a matter of time before he beards again. Because now he's going to be fighting all that chatter in HW about his being gay was the reason for the movie not doing well. that Thompson article raised it, and I'd bet good money she did because that is what people are saying.

And he's not going to want to have that happen should LAOD not do well. So he'll have a new beard, and probably one that walks the red carpet with him at the premiere.

    ReplyDelete
  46. And now I do think Jake has put himself in another bind, and that it is just a matter of time before he beards again.

I will agree with you on that, Destiny. He's painted himself into a corner.

The fact that his people keep testing the waters with Isabel mentions and we had the Jake&Girls Dance Wild over in Russia and then the latest People magazine up close & personal interview where he is quoted as saying that the perfect date starts with the perfect woman...That whole two page Tiger Beat Spin was made for 19-20 year old girls.

What's he going to do now? He went so far with Reeke and the fact that he & Austin think they still need to do the tag-team bearding tells me that they're in this for the long haul.

They've had their one or two little chickadees. They have their little nest going so the fact that they're still bearding makes me believe that another beard will have to be on the way for Jake. The bell will "ding!" and Austin will part from Sophia when OTH is done and then about the time for LAOD to start promo-ing, Jake's PR will have the next candidate ready with probably a 202 page contract freshly inked.

I didn't feel this way about 3 weeks ago. But his little European promo tour, that People mag interview piece of drivel and Austin's carrying of the beard baton lends me to see that this is no longer to cover for BT.

And all the ring flashing in the world doesn't make up for "the perfect date starts with the perfect woman" line. Please.

    Give me a break.

    ReplyDelete
  47. And what I just said does sound strange after what I said earlier but I still feel both ways.

I'll still support him & Austin; still hope for the time they don't feel they need to lie to the public.

But many more weekends like this past weekend, and it'll get a little bit harder every time.

I'll have to console myself with chants of Buckin, Buckin, Buckin!

lol. Hey, it's a new season. I can still hope and campaign!

Actually I was just pointing out why they broke their only action and thriller movie mold (and really, why do most people break their normal habits? Finding an actor attractive or on dates- that's not a stretch to say, it's just logical). Honestly I believe it has zero to do with anything "homophobic" especially since most of them don't think nor have they ever thought he was gay. They loved his other movies that were more up their normal movie-going alley (thus the Jarhead and Zodiac references) and they enjoy him as an actor.

He just doesn't say "action star" to them.

Granted, I realize there is little point in defending anything since you will think what you want.

It takes a 100 things to go right to make a movie successful. Acting direction, editing, casting, script, sound. Failure of any one of them can ruin the entire project. Like baking a cake. One wrong ingredient and the whole thing is a flop. Add bad timing caused by an extra year of Reeking, Avatars release, a British dance video, overspending, a bad marketing campaign and it gets even worse. In this case you can find something that went wrong in every aspect of the film. Oh and let's not forget Jake turning his back, literally in some cases, on his fans for 2 years. Lots of things were right, but too many went wrong. It happens all the time, most of the time really. That's why Brokeback Mountain was so spectacular. Everything went right.

What are you talking about M?
Nobody has said the 20 or so people who post here caused POP to fail. What are you reading?

Have you read the worldwide BO? It's done well everywhere but in the States. The 20 or so people who post here can not make the movie fail.
What was mentioned is that the people who call themselves a Jake fan but in reality they are only Gay Jake fans seem to want to see his failure because they are made that he has not come out as the rumor mentioned. It seems you are again blaming Jake, Reese, bearding, Jake being gay(???) for what you call failure of the movie in your above comments when most have said, including you, that there are a number of factors that a movie does not do well.

Oh and let's not forget Jake turning his back, literally in some cases, on his fans for 2 years.

You see it that way? I don't.
Turning his back on who? Turn his back on gay fans because he has not come out as the rumor stated? Really? M, Please make sense.
Maybe you should not follow and depend on the rumor mill so much, then you might not feel so betrayed, you think?

  56. Nevermind the supercilious rationales, the truth is, a lot of you didn't like the movie or go to see it because you want him to be out, period, and he hasn't done what you have wanted him to.

Exactly. Da haus frumps stamped their swollen cankles for months and months leading up to the release of POP, especially when Jake was still bearding with Chinny. They were not going to support Jake because he beards and won't come out.

Jake is an actor, not the gay version Nelson Mandela, who the frumps think will set the closeted world free.

    ReplyDelete
  57. And he's not going to want to have that happen should LAOD not do well. So he'll have a new beard, and probably one that walks the red carpet with him at the premiere.

OK, so Jake isn't bearding presently, that's all over now, and now you're all going to hate on him because of what he might do in the future? Great. *shakes head*

  58. What a dismal bunch. You're already hoping that LAOD won't do well.

  60. Boy, am I soggy. lol. I walked this morning in a light rain; I'm glad I didn't cop out though because it never got to be a hard rain, just enough to kind of sop me all up.

I have to be quick because it's going to be another busy day at work. meetings, meetings, meetings.

I watched a movie on the LOGO channel on Sunday that I think also impacted me. I watched East Side Story, which was pretty good. But towards the end of the movie, there's a scene where the really cute guy's ex comes into his restaurant with his latest "gf". And the cute guy is standing there with his hostess, who happens to be the ex's former fiance. She broke off their engagement when she found out he was gay (she had no idea). And I forget why the ex & his gf don't eat there but they decide to leave and on the way out, he gives her a smack on the butt, she giggles, and etc etc.

And the cute guy looks at his hostess and they don't call him out on it, they just sort of look at each other sad-like.

Did you get all that? Sorry! I can't remember names now. But it was a good movie.

But that scene just blew my mind. That's all I'll say.

  61. Question for you PG if you are still up-
why do you believe in BT? I'm not being argumentative or mean, I'm just curious if there is something I missed. I figure if people around here believe it's possible, I probably did miss something.

I had turned in, I think, turbulent mouse, sorry. I wasn't ignoring you.

Um,...there's not enough time this morning for me to go into my reasons for believing there is a BT(s). I think if one were to go through the archives for the past year, though, there were alot of topics of discussion where one would see all my comments about why I believe. I could gather it all up from my head and put together something like a term paper (more like a timeline, actually) but 1) nobody here wants to read all that again and 2) I honestly don't know yet who you are and until I get a trust zone going, I can't put myself out there like that yet.

So, sorry for the long answer but it is all said with very due respect.

Okay, I gotta go. You guys have a good day. I've got family coming in today from San Antonio and my aunt from the land of Osceola Cheese Factory so it's going to be a hectic week from here on out.

Oh!! And on Thursday, I guess that is tomorrow, lol - I am going to go visit my love!!!

mr. Curleyyyy!! I am so excited. I hope he remembers me.

  62. You don't know anything about meJune 9, 2010 at 7:50 AM

I'm one who has never claimed to be a Jake fan. I loved BBM and when I found out about Toothy Tile I was fascinated with him/Jake. I saw several of Jake's movies at that point but never really thought he was the be all and end all of acting. I could take him or leave him. His acting is OK to good as far as I'm concerned. I thought is was good/very good in BBM, miscast in Rendition, decent in Zodiac. I did not see PoP since it's not the type of movie that I ever bother seeing. Jake being in it makes no difference to me one way or the other. I'm not a teenager who thinks that a fan has to profess his undying love and support to any actor. I find all of this talk of what it means to be a fan very childish.

I totally agree. Call a spade a spade.

Sorry Jersey Tom and Destiny, you two are NOT a fan of Jake Gyllenhaal, you two are a fan of GAY Jake Gyllenhaal. That's all.
Nothing esle can be said about this. Since you have totally immersed yourselfs in the rumor whether true or not you can't see anything else. His movies mean zilch to you.
I find it to be a form of Prejudice. You can only like him or allow yourselfs to like him ONLY if he's gay and comes out.
You can't be a fan if you have ulterior motives for him such as you do.
The question is, why are you on a Jake fan blog. He has not done what you wish and you're still here complaining and wishing ill for his career. This is a Fan?
I would think only Trolls would be on a Jake fan blog hoping he fails at everything he does because you are not pleased with him and what he does

You are CORRECT as far as it goes for me. I have always said that for me this is NOT a fan site. Yes I love a GAY JAKE. A Str8 doesnt interest me that much. The only movie that I have not seen of Jakes is PoP. So in that case you are wrong. I dont wish for Jake to fail I only felt that I dont want to support PoP because that would have put my seal of approval on something I thought was wrong. Bearding!

Now that doesnt mean I dont like Str8 actors. I love Depp and Leo and many others and have seen a lot of their movies.

i guess you rather talk about a gay actor you are a fan of and adore. then it's mature?

  67. I have never considered myself the type of person who was the fan type. I like movies and sports and I have my favs but never wanted to be part of any fan club. I just find Jakes career and life a very intriuging story. I believe he is Gay and its kind of like watching a very interesting reality show. I hope they make it a movie someday. Tab Hunters book was sure enjoyable.

ITA m. A lot of people dont want to hear it but Jake lost a lot of his Gay/BBM fans. What new fans did PoP make for him. If Jake feels that he doesnt need a fanbase then he better start putting out some better products. After saying that I do think LAOD will be a better product.

  71. Well, at least you are honest about how you feel Tom.

BTW, I don't think anyone has said that being a fan means you have to love every film an actor makes, or everything they do, and you can't discuss it. I also agree that a handful of disgruntled fans won't make a difference at the box office, but even when Jake was seen with Austin recently, some sought and found some kind of convoluted ulterior motive for it. Most people were just happy to see them together; I for one didn't expect it. The constant negativity is mystifying, and the campaigns to make everyone think the same way as Devious.

I just think the continual bashing by some, and banging heads against the wall because they won't come out of the closet isn't very mature either, and is childish. It's his decision to make.

Thanks, M&M, I'll take that as a compliment.

  72. Man, I thought I'd posted earlier, but I guess blogger ate it.

POP is not the kind of movie I'd normally see, unless it got really good reviews. The only reason I'd be going is for Jake. But I don't like the product Jake and Disney put together for POP. I've always had issues with Disney, and usually don't go to their movies. I don't like the vision of the world they sell, fulll of motherless children, few people of color, no gays, etc. Disney, like the CW is also full of bearding and showmances.

I'm not going to support the HW machine, Disney, bearding, Jake's frat boy straight humor, etc. that, for me, POP represents, by plunking down $12.00 to go see it.

I have seen all of other Jake's movies, including Brothers. The beard was gone and I don't think bearding had anything to do with Brothers.

  73. PG- Thanks for the reply, I totally understand.

I've been weeding through the archives, it's just slow going :-) I'll continue to do so.

  74. Turbulentmouse, I'm not as good at the archives as some, but one place to start would be IHJ abd the photos of Jake and Reese in Paris in the summer of 2008, particularly the set around the fountain. There's also a video, but I can't put my finger on it until I get home. There's a photo of a blonde woman with a baby, and she falls into line with Reese's nanny, and Ava runs up to them in the video and touches the baby.

The blonde woman looks like the same woman that was seen driving Jake a couple of times, including once when she picked him up at the airport. Can't recall the dates of those photos.

Also, you won't find them at IHJ, but there's a picture of Reese loading a stroller into a car in Paris, and at that point her son Deacon was too old for a stroller--not to mention he was never seen in one that year.

  75. That's great- thanks! I've found that the titles of posts here don't tend to give away what's in them, plus lots of info is just in the comments.

Now I have an area to focus on. I had heard the words "strollergate" over on WFT and had no idea what it was in reference to.

  76. turbulentmouse, there is a Baby Tile thread on Fanchitchat that has a summary of what was discussed here and on WFT with the pictures and links. It’s on page 2 and 3 of this thread: Fanchitchat. You have to register (free) to access the blind item part, but it’s worth it if you are interested.
