Sit down, Stand Up, Get the Heck out

Think have figure out why Jake is sitting for Stand Up 2 Cancer. They are saving the standing up for Sept. Jake will be a part of the telethon that will be on all four major networks in the US.
Jake actually made two PSA's for Stand Up To Cancer. In this one with Scott Cooper he talks about how cancer touched his life.

and if you haven't seen it, here's the shorter version that he did in conjunction with Major League Baseball.

Stand Up To Cancer has provided funding and support for some of the most innovative and exciting cancer research that is currently happening in the US. Over the past two years, government support has been held flat and in some cases reduced in medical research due the current economic situation, that's why Stand Up To Cancer is so important.

Now for the Get the Heck Out

David O. Russell has seen the light, writing on the wall, bottom line fact that Nailed will never get off the shelf. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting: "Russell has withdrawn from the $26 million production after one-on-one negotiations with financier Ronald Tutor, who controls rights to the movie with Pangea Media Group CEO David Bergstein, broke down.

Neither Tutor nor Russell would go into detail about why they could not come to an agreement, but THR has learned that Russell apparently was not happy that producers Doug Wick and Lucy Fisher of Red Wagon Prods. were being squeezed to cut their fees in half.

In a statement to THR, the producers characterized the concessions as "unfair" and "unprofessional.""

"This has been a painful process for me," Russell told THR on Tuesday. "The multiple production delays and stoppages, which were caused by David Bergstein and preceded Ron Tutor's direct involvement with me, have now spanned two years, and the circumstances under which the film would now be completed are much different on several fundamental levels than when we embarked several years ago. I, unfortunately, am no longer involved in the project and cannot call it 'my' film. I wish Ron Tutor well."

Read the rest here. Hollywood Reporter

What does it all mean? Well it means that Tutor and Bergstein will bring in another director to finish the movie. That the outcome and look of the movie is at their mercy discretion. That Jessica Beil and Tracy Morgan are under contract to finish up the last scene never shot and don't get any more compensation and may have to do so. That movie may become something that the actors, the writers and the director never envisioned.

The question is how do you promote this? Is Jake contractually obligated to? Talk about awkward.

"Yeah I did this a couple of years ago but this is not the movie that I worked on. This is something else." " Me? and the monkey? Now that's a story"

Does any of the gossip you hear ever get boring even though it might be fascinating to your readers? Out of these B.V. subjects, who do you find the most and least interesting to write about? Toothy Tile, Crescent Kumquat, Judas Jack-Off, Grey Goose and Nevis Divine.

    Dear T-town Twist:
To answer your first question, I stick with those celebs who are relevant currently and making goss worth gabbing about, that way it doesn't get boring for me or you. As for the Vices, I'd say I'm mucho intrigued by Cres and Nev and the ways they're exploring their sexuality. None really bore me, but T2 hasn't exactly been causing any trouble lately. Care to fix that, Tooth?

  3. Well, I really don't understand what Bastille Day is all about but I send happy festivities to those who celebrate. They have fireworks so it sounds like it's a celebratory occasion.

I also must join Special in my own belated observation of George Steinbrenner's passing.

I was talking about him with my Big Buddy this morning and we were reminiscing, although he is too young to remember some of this stuff. Those were the days. The Royals & the Yankees had some real bang-up confrontations. Gosh, when I remember their line-up which had players like Goose Gossage, Thurman Munson, Mickey Rivers, Greg Nettles, Chris Chambliss on 1st. Nettles was a forever Golden Glove and Mickey Rivers was sooooooo irritating because he was their lead-off man and he was always getting on base and he was lightning fast. Was there a player with a more irritating batting stance than Mickey Rivers? I don't know.
And was there ever anyone tougher than Thurman Munson? I know, Special, Carlton Fisk ranks right up there. Which one was tougher, do you think? That's impossible to answer.

And then everytime there was a bad call, ol' Billy Martin would come running out there and he'd start kicking up the dirt. LOLLLLL.

And George Steinbrenner was the "bad guy" because he was the one who started paying all those crazy salaries.

Now it's funny because I think of him fondly. Why? Because all I can think about is the Calzone.

LOLLLLLL!!! George Costanza and the Calzone. All you ever saw was the back of Steinbrenner's head. And that episode where George got his job w/the Yankees. He rattled off all of his proud moments: killing off Susan with the poisonous wedding invitations, pretending to be handicapped, etc. And George Steinbrenner hires him on the spot.

All the great ones are going. Baseball will never be like it was.

  6. Not a Yankees fan, but Steinbrenner was one of those real characters that help make New York New York. And I instantly thought of Seinfeld too PG.

I wish everyone would stop playing games and just get Nailed finished. I can understand wanting to get paid, but producers take on risk that others do not, and it seems like it would be in everyone's interest to get the film out and, if they're lucky, make some money on it.

  7. Believe me I am no fan of Steinbrenner when it comes to baseball, heading the Evil Empire (Yankees). He did ruin baseball for small clubs like KC inflating salaries and using small clubs like the minor league.

But I will give it to Mr. Steinbrenner, he could be a tyrant and rule with an iron fist, but there were parts that were very kind. Despite the rivalry between Sox and the Yankees, The Boss would make a very sizeable donation to The Jimmy Fund for Dana Farber Cancer Institute, and the official charity of the Red Sox.

Well, Kerry, welcome to you, too. You just kept right on reading, though, didn't you? Couldn't stop? Felt compelled to come back?
    lol. Thought so.

Old Biddy Moment. 3 of us went to Jimmy John's for sandwiches and as soon as we walked in, those kids were blasting their rap music to high heaven. Jimmy John's always seems to have great young people working for them; they're always young, no matter which one you go to. But my gosh, this music was just bouncing off the walls. And after having to ask the gal, "I'm sorry?" several times because I couldn't hear her, I asked those kids, "I'm sorry, but could you guys maybe turn that music down some?"

They all kind of looked at each other like, "Huh. It's too loud for her." I had already asked if they had outdoor seating but they didn't. lol. Good kids - they turned it down.

And who does Austin think he's kidding with the OTH Season 8 gushing? Come. On. m, I don't think I will be able to do it. I'm getting past overload of Sophin/Brulian already with the resumption of Tag-Team Twittering.

I can't wait til we get all the play-by-play of their "Let's Play House". Will we get alot of TMI twitters?

  9. And now I must go back to work. It's been pretty rough here this week because a bunker mate is on vacay this week.

And we will be 5-S'ing our kitchen area here in the office soon. You guys are going to hear about 5-S whether you want to or not but it will have to wait until tonight. I know, you're going to be sitting on your hands waiting, but that's too bad. But this kind of stuff must be exposed!!

Chocolate Royale Slimfast guzzled down - those things are like chocolate malts. And it's hotter than all get out here. I tried to bring in the Impatience (sp? Seaweed, that's wrong, isn't it?) and the Gerbera Daisies from the patio for the day but when I brought in the impatience, there started to be like these little ants starting to crawl on the dining room table and I had to hurry & smash them and then get the flowers outside. So they may not make it today. Poor things. And the impatience were doing so well.

It's a Soft Oldies Boomer Radio day today. There's nothing like alot of 70's music to get in that mellow kind of mood. So much of 70's music was so happy and simple.

"Wind Beneath My Wings" is on right now. lol. Aaaaahhhhh. It's a Calgon moment.

  10. And was there ever anyone tougher than Thurman Munson? I know, Special, Carlton Fisk ranks right up there. Which one was tougher, do you think? That's impossible to answer.

I can answer that question, PG. How about the Big Red Machine's Johnny Bench? With all that "tools of ignorance" protective gear on, I don't think I've ever watched a catcher play with such a combination of grace, instinct and just overwhelming skill, almost balletic and I would say, darn close to perfection. He had one of the strongest and most accurate arms when it came to throwing men out at second base and he was a great hitter in the clutch. And, talk about toughness. During his rookie season alone he caught 154 games (major league record for a rookie)and he was known in his early days to actually catch double headers.

And, to tie it back to today's post, I remember when he was just 24 years old, during his second MVP season, a routine physical examination showed that he had a spot on his lung and he continued to play and lead his team to another World Series, telling no one that he was scheduled for off-season lung surgery. Fortunately, it turned out that the tumor was benign, but I'll never forget the poise he demonstrated. He does a lot of work for the American Cancer Society and is the National Chairman of "Athletes vs. Cancer."

Okay, I got carried away. *smile* But, you did ask PG!

  12. Munson and Nettle talk about rough and tough and brawlers.

I have to say Pudge Fisk is up there for one of the toughest in baseball, you did not want to run into home full force, when he was covering the plate. Jason Varitek back a few season ago was at the tip top of his toughest too, especially going after A-Rod and giving him a taste of his glove.

The Sox have two cancer survivors on the current roster. Mike Lowell who is a testicular cancer survivor and Jon Lester who was diagnosed during his rookie season 2006 of non Hodgkin's lymphoma treated and came back to pitch the winning game of the 2007 World Series.

Friend of mine from where I used worked his daughter and her friends were in college had rubber bracelets made to raise money for cancer in Jon's name for Dana Farber. They ran into Jason Varitek one night in Boston and told him about it and gave him a couple. Tek was so blown away that they had raised over 6 thousand bucks from it at that time, he invited them to a game and introduced them to the rest of the team.

  15. I saw both men play many times, but I'll have to stick with Johnny Bench. Definitely, not a physical brawler, but a more durable, uncompromising, able-bodied performer would be hard to find. His fierceness was found in his finesse. For me he was the quintessential catcher. Strong legs, great footwork, a rapid release et al. The "Little General." No doubt, Fiske was a tough guy, but as I recall it still was Bench he was always being compared to.

  18. How bad must have things got for a director to quit a movie that he did 98% of? What would make you walk away from the whole thing at this point? You went through how much hassle to just shooting what you did and walk away.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I know what you mean. The whole "Nailed" saga seems odd on mnay levels. Almost a movie within a movie. More than likely some pretty provocative, hidden issues are factoring into this scorched earth policy announced by Russell today. The phrase, "And the circumstances under which the film would now be completed are much different on several fundamental levels," is riddled with...well riddled with riddles. I wish people would just stop talking in legalese speak. Gylliebabble is hard enough to understand, as it is!

  20. Tbh I think the majority in HW believe Russell is getting his due. The huge fight with Clooney over his (Russell) poor treatment of the extras on the Three Kings set and the Huckabee violent outburst vid that made the rounds and that's just the stuff we know. It might take a few years but HW has a way of sending people down permanently. It's too bad Jake's acting in Nailed was collateral damage but I'm sure he knew the risks of working with a HW pariah director like Russell.

    ReplyDelete
  21. What goes around, did you even read the Hollywood Reporter story about this? Sounds like Russell walked away, not pushed.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Maybe they wanted to release the film without shooting the scene where she has the accident, or they were wrestling away creative control in some other way? Russell may have just gotten his pr people on top of the first story on this, or he said he walked away to save face. So many possibilities.

And yes I do have Bomer on the brain because I was out last night and couldn't watch the new season premiere of White Collar, and the work I'm doing today is mind-numbing, so all I can think about is getting home to watch (and pray that it recorded all right). Also lots of Bomer appearances to think about, including Fallon tomorrow night.

  24. Looking at press and comments over Nailed since it started you see two trends. One one hand is being called a romantic comedy, and the other it is being called a satire. And another thing is that some of the stuff coming out downplays Beil's character being a nymphomaniac after her accident. I wonder if Russell wanted to keep it the satire it was created to be. It was supposed to be about health care and a "no boy scout" of a Congressman.

"And we're like a political version of The Wizard Of Oz. And I'm like the lion, and Jessica Biel is Dorothy, and Kurt Fuller is the Tin Man. And we just head off to the government to get health care for everybody. [Laughs.] All three of us have health problems, health issues, and we couldn't get health care." AV Club

Well Carlton Fiske and Johnny Bench were two of the best cathers ever and game 6 of the 1975 World Series was one of the greatest games I ahve ever watched. I am looking forward to the second half of the baseball season and would love to see my Phils head to their third straight World Series. The Phils and the Red Sox have had a ton of injuries this year and both teams have hung in there. The rest of the season should be fun. Hate to say it but it is gonna be tough beating the Damn Yanks though.

I am rally looking forward to seeing LAOD and Source Code. I will be out there supporting Jake as long as he isnt bearding.

PG the Royals have had some really good teams and I got to see them play the Yanks in a playoff game at the old Yankee stadium. Of course my Phils were lucky enough to beat the Roayls in the 1980 World Series. I am glad the Royals came back to win the Series a few Years latter. George Brett was a great player.

  39. Nailed never being released may be the best thing to happen to Jake in a while. He does not need a film to sink in the box office right now. Cant say that the premise held any appeal for me and Biel is not considered a serious actress. I'm not sure how he got involved with this film to start with. Many thanks for yesterday's update (albeit disappointing) on my two favorite Blind Vicers, Toothy Tile and Grey Goose. I was starting to think you had thrown in the towel on these two. With the news that G.G. is now the least likely to step out of the closet, does this mean G.G. might actually genuinely be falling for his beard? As sad as it may be, is this the end of Toothy and Goose's erratic relationship?
    —Lovelorn

    Dear Heart of the Matter:
More like G2 is genuinely falling for his booming career—his beard is just helping him get there.

    Dear Ted:
How's a girl supposed to know who is bi, gay or otherwise when it seems like even the ones long suspected of same-sex shenanigans are shacking up and having babies? One of your old timer Blind Vices just announced a baby on the way and I was sure he was gay and used to be with a famous beard. I mean at this point I wouldn't be surprised if Grey Goose and his beard announced a marriage and a kid on the way, and now you're saying the oh-so-gay Parrish Maguire (nice name by the way) is doubting his gayness! Please! Seriously!
    —Marissa

    Dear Miss Mariss:
That's the problem with assumptions about my Vices—you never quite really know who they are, do ya? And unless they out themselves, that Hollywood-encompassing Venn diagram of gay and nay isn't gonna happen. To quote the greatest pop star of our time (Adam Lambert), Whaddya want from me!?
