Vanity Fair has released its 2010 International Best-Dressed List
As VF says,"There’s an eclectic feel to this year’s ranking of the style elite. But, as always, the list is about individual taste, not fashion trends,.... only one real through line emerges: their exquisite self-expression"
And what brother sister duo made the list.
Jake's favorite article of clothing? His Hoyle Jackson jeans. And they are clearly his fav.
Another fav the Billy Reid Delta Work Boots. But we knew that already.
Favorite fashion purchase of 2010: Salvatore Ferragamo made-to-measure three-piece suit (how could you not?)
Favorite watch: 1954 Rolex Submariner
Produced in 1954 and hard-to-find, it is the first watch with a water resistance of 200 meters. One sold at Christie's in May 2008 for $144,399 another sold for $115,000 at Sotheby's in April of the same year.
- Hmmm who else is into Vintage Watches? You know kinda tall, brunette, with a unique fashion sense.
Jake's Style Icon - Clint Eastwood Whatttt? Well that was the first thought too when you think of Eastwood you kind of think of this:
But looking over Clint's career, you can kind of see why Jake picked him. Who would have known.
Maybe it was the hair beard combo
The polo classic
The love of Grandpa sweaters
Maybe the Cowboy meets Prince look
Or just the simplicity of grey tee with talismans?
Clint's tracked down bad guys in San Francisco, took a romantic short story of hidden love and turned into blockbuster movie, played a cowboy, gone to the moon and hey done a musical.... hello... Paint Your Wagon.
Jake one word of advice, wearing the monkey suit was enough, you don't have to do a movie with a orangutan too.
Speaking of styling, think Austin should call it the Flying Dutchman.
Those Berks are looking a bit Gyllenliike are you trying to win the funky footwear battle round 2?
And what's next Mr. Nichols? Wheelbarrow Wednesday?
Now now no cookie cutter ideas
Why is Austin in Charlotte in that pic?
ReplyDeleteReally great post today. :)
ReplyDeleteWoo hoo! Prop. 8 found unconstitutional.
ReplyDeleteYippeee! A great day for justice and equality in America. The first time a United States Federal Court has ruled that a ban on same sex marriage has violated the U.S. Constitution. The Government has a no compelling reason to deny this fundamental right.
ReplyDeleteGreat news about Prop 8!
ReplyDeleteYes, fantastic news! :)

ReplyDeleteCivil rights on the march and a step closer to achieving the pursuit of happiness and liberty...for all.
ReplyDelete"Because Proposition 8 is unconstitutional under both the Due Process and Equal Protection Clauses, the court orders entry of judgment permanently enjoining its enforcement...
Still waiting to see if judge has issued a stay.
P. 114:
ReplyDelete"Plaintiffs do not seek recognition of a new right. To characterize plaintiffs’ objective as "the right to same-sex marriage" would suggest that plaintiffs seek something different from what opposite-sex couples across the state enjoy —— namely, marriage. Rather, plaintiffs ask California to recognize their relationships for what they are: marriages."
That's a great passage. I haven't had time to read the decision yet.
ReplyDeleteDue process, stays, enjoining its enforcement.. all Greek to me. And don't bother explaining it, it's been 'splained to me over and over but I don;t remember and still get confused. Bans, repeals, banning the repeal, etc, too many friggin double negatives!
ReplyDeletepursuit of happiness and liberty
ReplyDeleteAre you nuts? Those two things are NOT part of marriage.
question for POV from previous thread, the acquaintances you mention are yours or hers? if yours, how do you have so many friends who know RW? If hers , how do you know what you say, where do you get your facts gossip sites? You sound a bit overboard with your negativity, be careful, karma is a b!tch and, you know, might turn around and get you too.
ReplyDeleteThe legal definition of enjoining means to direct, require, command, or admonish. "To enjoin" connotes a degree of urgency. To implement immediately. Even though there was a statement in the ruling to permanently enjoin, it was expected that those in favor of continiuing the ban on same sex marriage would appeal.
ReplyDeleteJudge Walker, however, has ONLY issued a 2-day stay until he hears the arguments against the stay application. In brief, marriage licenses could be reinstated soon for same sex couples.
Thanks. Although I won't remember it next week!
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed he doesn't issue a longer stay.
ReplyDeleteYou sound a bit overboard with your negativity, be careful, karma is a b!tch and, you know, might turn around and get you too.
ReplyDeleteGive me a break. I happen to work and socialize with those in the Hollywood community. Believe me, Ms. Witherspoon's toxic reputation is about as much of a secret as Jake's glittery past. Being honest will translate to only good karma for me. Thank you for caring so much, though.
70. The gender of a child’s parent is not a factor in a child’s adjustment. The sexual orientation of an individual does not determine whether that individual can be a good parent. Children raised by gay or lesbian parents are as likely as children raised by heterosexual parents to be healthy, successful and well-adjusted. The research supporting this conclusion is accepted beyond serious debate in the field of developmental psychology.(p. 95)
ReplyDeleteHmm. I wonder what social psychologists would say about raising children deep in the closet once they begin to leave the toddler stage and enter those all important early childhood years? I sure hope Jake and Austin realize that there is a major difference between the two.
Jake, make a POP suquel so we can add to BT's therapy fund!

ReplyDeleteThose are all beautiful passages, M&M. Thanks for posting. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful news re: Judge Walker's ruling. I'm sure there will be alot of back & forth business and alot of political mumbo jumbo I don't get or care about.
ReplyDeleteBut just the fact that it's the beginning of the end for the ban on same-sex marriages in the remaining states of the nation is uplifting.
I won't be down about political fencing and the vows already being heard about fighting this overturning. It's still huge. Because it's just a matter of time now.
What an imaginative and fun post, Special. Wonderful picture and caption complement with a lot of interesting factoids about Jake's unique fashion sense. I didn't even know that Jake had a 1954 Rolex Submariner, but I do think you may be onto something. Let's see what tall drink of "water" Texan is a vintage watch aficionado? Sounds like the kind of functional embellishment that might have been a gift from someone special. And, I agree. You've got to love that Salvatore Ferragamo made-to-measure three-piece suit. Perfect suit for the perfect body, with the perfectly marvelous pose.
ReplyDeleteThat last picture of Austin styling is, ummm, impressive. Balance and strength, along with a certain panache. Perfectly marvelous is his own right! ;-)
I know that Jake's dad gave him a watch and Jake was quite proud of it. This Rolex might be it. Wow what a gift if it was.
ReplyDeleteBut I do think the two have a thing for vintage timepieces to use the Nicholsian vernacular.
And yes, bet the Flying Dutchman knows some tricky maneuvers way below the flight deck.
Great news. Thanks you Mr. Judge.
ReplyDeleteCome on Austin lets hear some tweets on that one. Do u got the balls?

Sometimes Austin has some great tweets.
It is exciting to see another state join us six. Let's make it all 50.
ReplyDeleteWe have been so lucky in Massachusetts for the pass 6 years everyone has had the opportunity to get married. All the arguments that people had before it was legalized are moot now. All the fears never materialized.
It is such the norm and so openly discussed here that you kinda forget that 85% of the rest of the states in the US don't have the same rights. And you want every state to have it.
It takes victories like today in CA as reminder to be thankful for those places that do, to be examples for a nation and that there is much more work to do, until everyone has a opportunity to marry who they love.
It's really great that Austin tweeted in about the victory too.
.A MAJOR step forward. Everyone deserves the right to love whomever they choose. I am proud to be from Cali again! http://huff.to/c6CfTa

Boy would I love to hear what a professional has to say about that one too M and M. And funny you should bring it up today because it was on my mind after seeing a fan photo posted on wft2 of Bomer with the fan and his stepson.
Can you imagine Jake or Austin doing that? No, neither can I.
@AUS10NICHOLS Now it's finally time for you to marry Jake Gyllenhaal!!! :D #JustWishing (Don't be angry LOL)
ReplyDeleteThe joke is on Giannis1. They probably already are, dearie!
I second the applause for today's post. So much going on I didn't get a chance to really look at it until now.
ReplyDeleteRegarding tweeting together, in all fairness to Sophia, she has been supporting gay marriage for a very long time, so it anyone is doing the copy-catting here it's Austin. I don't care, still glad he's doing it.
REEDONKULOUS!!!
ReplyDeleteEven though the meaning is obvious I just officiallly learned a new slang word from Mr. Creative Writer, along with that term's "esteemed" etymology: Urban Dictionary - re.donk'u.lous adj. 1. significantly more absurd than ridiculous to an almost impossible extreme; without possibility of serious consideration. 2. fitted to excite absolute ridicule; intentionally crazy and silly; completely absurd and laughable. "redonkulous" - as first popularized by the fictional character Seth Cohen on FOX's The O.C.
I guess Austin's double "e" means the sentiment expressed is even more ridiculous? Either that, or he can't spell. *snicker* Once again, for someone who says he doesn't have a TV, he sure is familiar with televised popular culture.
And yes, bet the Flying Dutchman knows some tricky maneuvers way below the flight deck.
ReplyDeleteOr, as Jake's PR team would describe it, "Bottoms Out!" *grin*
Must say I do love the picture of Jake and Austin at the Lakers with Austin showing off those big rubba' boots. Why? How their shoes are touching.
ReplyDeleteGotta credit them for doing safe shoe sex!
ReplyDeleteI spilled oil on myself, so I put dispersant on it. Now i have three dicks and migraines. Thanks BP, you should sell this wonderful product!

...funny you should bring it up today because it was on my mind after seeing a fan photo posted on wft2 of Bomer with the fan and his stepson. Can you imagine Jake or Austin doing that? No, neither can I.
ReplyDeleteSigh. Maybe someday.
Psychological studies that have looked at the less frequent "big" lies, which involve deep betrayals of trust, have discovered that the vast majority of those deceptions occur between people in intimate (those nearest to us) relationships. Basically, suggesting that people save the really big lies for those people that they are closest to. And, here I thought love was about honesty and genuineness. Ironic, huh? Of course, the human animal is amazingly skilled at the art of rationalization.
Being that Jake and Austin are actors probably causes them to intellectualize their choices even further, and mistakenly convinces them that their in the closet lifestyle only means that they are keeping their private lives off limits to the public. Of course, remaining private and living a lie are two very different things. I hope the guys realize that distinction in the future.
Now i have three dicks and migraines. Thanks BP, you should sell this wonderful product!
ReplyDeleteHmm. The dispersant multiples the possibily of sex, while developing a ready made excuse (migraines) not to. I suppose someone could market it as some kind of freaky birth control product.
Must say I do love the picture of Jake and Austin at the Lakers with Austin showing off those big rubba' boots. Why? How their shoes are touching.
ReplyDelete:-)
I also noticed that Austin has already finished his beer, but Jake has hardly touched his. Oh, that's right. Jake was already enjoying a natural high. Glowing like a fool. Inebriated by looooove.
Prop8:It Ain't Over-But It's Better!
ReplyDeleteDare we say the California judicial system agrees George Clooney? Remember what the handsome human-rights advocate told us?
"At some point in our lifetime, gay marriage won't be an issue, and everyone who stood against this civil right will look as outdated as George Wallace standing on the school steps keeping James Hood from entering the University of Alabama because he was black."
Something tells us Judge Vaughn R. Walker had this exact same sentiment in mind today when he struck down Prop 8 as being unconstitutional. Couldn't agree more:
After all, what right have those who don't believe in gay marriage to legally admonish those of us who do? Zero, says Vaughn, and we concur.
As you've no doubt heard by now, Vaughn's ruling considers Prop 8 unconstitutional under both the due-process and equal-protection clauses.
Meaning, us fruits who care to get married have rights, too, you Sarah Palin-types. Take that!
And to use Clooney's analogy in all this, if Vaughn had upheld Prop 8, surely, it would have been akin to preventing James Hood from entering the Univ. of Alabama.
Well, we just got permission to (re-)enter the institution of marriage in California, quelle joy!
(May others have better luck with this right than I did, and I mean that with all my heart.)
But as Kathy Griffin has astutely pointed out, "we have a long way to go" before this case likely hits the U.S. Supreme Court and will be decided for good.
Keep on keepin' on, everybody!
Reactions to Prop 8 ruling CNN
ReplyDeleteWhite House: "The president has spoken out in opposition to Proposition 8 because it is divisive and discriminatory. He will continue to promote equality for LGBT Americans."
ReplyDeleteCalifornia Attorney General Jerry Brown: "In striking down Proposition 8, Judge Walker came to the same conclusion I did when I declined to defend it: Proposition 8 violates the equal protection guarantee of the Fourteenth Amendment of the United States Constitution by taking away the right of same-sex couples to marry, without a sufficient governmental interest."
California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger: "For the hundreds of thousands of Californians in gay and lesbian households who are managing their day-to-day lives, this decision affirms the full legal protections and safeguards I believe everyone deserves. At the same time, it provides an opportunity for all Californians to consider our history of leading the way to the future, and our growing reputation of treating all people and their relationships with equal respect and dignity."
The other ones, pro Prop 8, are truly laughable. That marriage is between a man and a woman because they make babies and people have the right to vote on others' civil rights. The ones above, the President of the USA, the Ca Atty General, and the Ca Governor are the most important IMO, and they are against Prop 8.

ReplyDeleteTerrific news about Prop 8. I hope it does not get endlessly delayed with appeals. But then again it is another step forward.
ReplyDeleteLeave it to Austin to surf a shopping cart.
In May 2009, when we learned Chad Griffin had lined up Ted Olson and David Boies to argue the shit out of Prop 8's unconstitutionality, America and California's Gay Inc. groups were furious. Now they're so happy!
ReplyDeleteHRC joined Freedom to Marry, ACLU, Lamda Legal, GLAAD, Victory Fund, Log Cabin Republicans, and PFLAG in denouncing the Perry v. Schwarzenegger lawsuit, saying in an open letter, "Rather than filing premature lawsuits, we need to talk to our friends, family and neighbors, and help them understand why denial of the freedom to marry is wrong."
By June 2009 many of them had come around, or come around long enough to say they hoped the lawsuit at least didn't go poorly. And then some of them demanded Griffin & Co. let them in on their high-profile case; he was like, "Oh hell no!" (By June 2010, HRC was talking about how it was "hopeful" our side would prevail.)
Fast-forward to today, when all these groups were bouncing off the walls.
.....
Now it's not like these groups don't have a right to be happy. They do. And they should! But if everybody took their advice last year — and opted not for a federal lawsuit, but a continued piecemeal strategy that's an exercise in two steps forward, one-to-three steps back — we'd be here in August 2010 still with our tails between our legs. And while Perry has a long way and likely several years to go before today's ruling becomes the law of the land, it is unarguably the most significant victory in the history of the marriage equality battle. And HRC, an organization devoted to securing federal equality, didn't have a single hand in it.
These Gay Inc. groups proved that while they remain sometimes useful, they are not necessary to securing LGBT rights. That is a shift change only one year ago might have seemed unthinkable.

Dear Ted:
ReplyDeleteNow that Judas Jack-Off and Dashed Dingle-Dream are back together, what are the chances they will finally come out? Do you think they are more or less likely to come out than Toothy Tile and Grey Goose? I hope at least one of them will!

Dear Close Closet Call:
That's a tough one, Chaz, 'cause both the duos are mucho comfortable in their respective closets. But if I had to choose who would come out as a couple, it would be T2 and G2. Way more serious and way more comfortable with each other.

ReplyDeleteLOL.
Of course, remaining private and living a lie are two very different things.
Absolutely.
I recently read a short interview with Hilarie Burton. She wouldn't tell the interviewer the actual date her son was born, or his name.
It put me in mind of SoGo and the days when Austin was blogging over there. I loved the fact that she wasn't using her personal life to sell herself and her projects, and was trying to do different things with her blog, like talking about books. And I liked the way Austin did that too while he was over there.

ReplyDeletePresident Obama did very little speaking out against Prop. 8 before the election. And President Obama and his adminstration continue to fight in court and file opposition to cases involving gay rights, such as ones on DADT, federal employees seeking rights for their partners and challenges to DOMA.
ReplyDeleteIn sharp contrast, Governor Schwarzenegger refused to join in the effort to uphold Proposition 8. It porobably helped the plaintiffs' win, because there was no government there trying to argue they had a "rational" reason for banning gay marriage.
