No beaches, no Clothes over Bros, no BrookeDavis(tm) for Austin this week.
Instead it's Detroit. The Motor City baby.
And he's spending it right here:
Grosse Pointe South High, in Grosse Pointe, MI, an affluent suburb of Detroit filming the remake of the French movie LOL.
Here are the trailers lined up on location.
The set is pretty much closed because of Ms. Cyrus aka Lola. Who hasn't been winning over fans in the area with her off camera attitude. But we digress. A little review of what LOL is about:
"In a world connected by YouTube, iTunes and Facebook, Lola (Cyrus) and her friends navigate the peer pressures of high school romance and friendship while dodging their sometimes overbearing and confused parents. When Lola’s mom, Anne ( Moore ), 'accidentally' reads her teenage daughter’s racy journal, she realizes just how wide their communication gap has grown. Through hilarious and heartfelt moments between mother and daughter, LOL is an authentic coming-of-age story for the way we live now."
Not familiar with the original? Here's a clip.
Austin is playing the heartthrob of a math teacher Mr. Ross who is the object of all the girl's crushes, especially Emily's, one of Lola's bffs.
Emily(Ashley Hinshaw) is best friends with Lola and Janice, she doesn't make a move without overthinking it - although apparently that doesn't stop her from engaging in a little IM sex-play. She's a girl who cares what people think of her. She finds herself starting to "like" a somewhat dorky kid named Wen, with whom she's having a sex, which she tries to hide from her friends. She can't bring herself to tell Lola that she's the reason Lola mistakenly thinks Kyle had sex with Ashley, but eventually she does, and winds up getting the cold-shouldered by her now former bff.
But Mr. Ross was not Mr. Ross when Austin went up for the audition during casting the end of April beginning of May.
MALE (20s-30s; any ethnicity) - MR. COLIN KRYS. The hottest trig teacher on the planet, with a heart-melting smile, Mr. Krys is a high school math teacher and the object of Emily's true desire. Possibly unaware of his heart-throb status, the unmarried Mr. Krys is good-natured and kind, and even covers for Emily when her mother almost catches her in a lie. Wen's tutor, Mr. Krys sees some revealing photos of Emily on Wen's cell phone, and later subtly advises Emily that she might want to re-think her m.o. to get what she wants in life. LEAD

ReplyDeleteThink it will be a while before Ryan Reynolds gets invited over to the Gyllenichols for dinner. J/K
ReplyDeleteFirst it looks like he's gotten the part that Jake was in the running for for Safe House

And then he's doing his own PSA about the Gulf. Green Lantern vs. Absorbent Man. Austin Maybe you guys can join forces to fight for The Gulf. You know Ryan might be better to run with, he ran the NYC marathon in 3h 50 mins.

I couldn't picture Jake in that role, but boy, I sure don't get Reynold's appeal. I think he's as bland as they come.
ReplyDeleteI noticed that a couple of days ago Austin retweeted about giving money to Pakistan. Nice thing for him to do as there have been some stories about how the disaster there is not getting the attention it should.
What is happen in Pakistan is devastating, even with the US and UK coming in to with help and Pakistan asking the UN the aid is not enough. And now it is not just the flood and having nowhere to live but also not having clean water and now disease is running rampant.
ReplyDeleteHere are Austin's tweets about Pakistan.

Well that was quick. So not a big role in the film then.
ReplyDeleteAnother topic that brings joys to Gyllenhaal is her brother Jacob, who is also a very talented actor.
ReplyDeleteIn a recent interview, he said of his sister, "I’m just trying to catch up to her."
"I love my brother," she said. "I really do adore him. You know, he’s my little brother, so I don't know if little brothers always feel that way, you know, even though you’re adults you always feel a little younger. I still feel like his big sister, even though we’re very close in age." source
It was never a huge part in LOL for Austin. The main focus of the movie is Lola (Miley) and her bffs and between her and her mom (Demi Moore). Austin's just the hot teacher in that comes along in the storyline. There always has to be some adult that they all crush on in these movies.
ReplyDeleteWith the announcement that Orlando and Miranda Kerr are expecting a baby it reinforces to me how Jake is not following the other A listers and conforming to what Hollywood wants them to do. Look at McConaughey and now Bloom who are marrying and/or having kids in public fauxmances because that is the way is supposed to be for A-list leading men. You don't say no, I'm going to have a family the way I want to with the man I love, like Jake has done.
ReplyDeleteIt is truly groundbreaking what he and Austin decided to do, how they decided to have a family on their own terms.
I think sometimes that gets lost in the mix in of what has happened after the having their family, and it doesn't get acknowledged for taking a step out there that hadn't been done before.
Check out Ted's last AT blog from yesterday about Rob and Kristen's house in LA/Bel Air. Look how isolated it is. And people believe that Jake and Austin can't hide themselves, BT and a nanny from the public, paps, and nosy neighbors?!
ReplyDeleteI think sometimes that gets lost in the mix in of what has happened after the having their family, and it doesn't get acknowledged for taking a step out there that hadn't been done before.
ReplyDeleteWhy should anyone "acknowledge" something that the actual people involved haven't acknowledged? There is nothing groundbreaking about staying deeply hidden in a closet. If you want to acknowledge people for being groundbreaking you need to look somewhere besides Jake and Austin and a phantom baby. NPH and David are a couple that deserve to be "acknowledged." If you truly believe there is a BT, then I would think it's pretty sad that he/she is hidden somewhere while cousin Ramona gets to go out in public with "Daddy." Why would anyone want to "acknowledge" such a situation or worse yet, admire it?
Dear Ted:
ReplyDeleteHave Toothy Tile and Crotch Uh-Lastic ever starred in a movie together? Wouldn't that be dreamy? Do you think they'd have the chops to do a remake of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid? I'm sure we'll never see them in a Making Love, but damn wouldn't that be hot?
—M
Dear Closeted Costars:
When we first introduced good old Crotchy, he hadn't starred alongside T2 and, sadly, that's still the case. Both actors are über-talented and have the chops to remake pretty much anything. And, M, if it makes you feel better, Crotch would be so down for a Making Love remake. Not over Toothy's dead body would he agree to it though.
Dear Ted:
You've said that sometimes gays and their beards are friends, and sometimes they even enjoy the on-the-job "benefits" that come with the gig. Often in life, "benefits" lead to unexpected "blessings." Do you think any of the beards ever liked the position, status, money that comes with the relationship that they arranged for the "unexpected blessing" on purpose to make their position permanent? Do the players ever get played?
—Single
Dear Good One:
Yes, your imagined scenario has come to pass. But it's truly rare.
Dear Ted:
You mentioned at one point that Shafterella was entertaining the ladies, but then more recently, in a Shafty update, you said that the person she is with now was who she was with all along—even when the initial bearding began. So was that tidbit true? Or was that part written (or given out) to lead us astray?
—Gets the Shaft
Dear Shave Off Shafty:
Let me clarify: She wasn't with her current fellow the entire time she was in her PR setup. Shafterella met this guy while she was smiling for photos with her closeted "BF"; then kicked her arranged guy out on his ass without thinking of what her actions would do for his public image. As for the ladies, well, she's never been shy in that arena, just not her main drive.
Bitch Back!
If you truly believe there is a BT, then I would think it's pretty sad that he/she is hidden somewhere while cousin Ramona gets to go out in public with "Daddy."
ReplyDeleteWell said. Couldn't have put it better.
The loons are in so deep that they think keeping kid/s hidden away is something to be acknowledged.
ReplyDeleteIn reality, you can't acknowledge something that doesn't exist!!!
Take it back to WFT2.
ReplyDeletelol, but you're responding
ReplyDeleteTake it back to WFT2.
ReplyDeleteTake what back? A logical response to one of SK's posts? Why should that take place at WFT2? The problem is, it bugs you that you can't respond to logic, so you pretend you're not listening.
I agree with all the points Nothing to Be Admired makes.
ReplyDeleteIt's unusual all right, but personally I think what makes it ground-breaking is the level of closeting involved and their disregard for a child's well-being. I find it truly disturbing, especially now that BT is approaching what, 3 years old? But I generally avoid talking about it anymore because it usually just makes me hopping mad.
IMO being so closeted that you would hide your own child is a step backwards, not progress.
Maybe I'd feel differently if they truly kept their lives private and didn't beard. But we had almost three years of Jake bearding, during which time he wanted everyone to think Reese and her kids were his family, and now we have Austin bearding.
Plus we have Jake out and about with Ramona, and for someone who supposedly has his own family he sure wants to make us think the only family he has right now are Maggie, Peter and Ramona.
Jake is using Maggie's family just like he used Reese and her family--to create a family image that is a lie.
As distastful as I find all these bearding marriages with children, at least they are doing right by their children and giving them as much as normal life as they can. What their parents do and don't do in the bedroom doesn't matter.
Pure speculation, but I think Jake has BT, and that Austin is not that involved in raising him or her.
ReplyDeleteWhoa. We are also in malaysia and qatar. I had no idea. I have some travelling to do!!!!!! :)

ReplyDeleteSpecial, I liked your comment at 23:56.
ReplyDeleteYou know, this could take several posts and I only have about 1/2 hr left of my lunch hour so I'm probably not going to get it all down. But I'm foregoing final working on my completed Ch 5 because I feel more compelled to comment than work on that.
And I'll go ahead & say right now that I won't be back on here until after work so take alllllll the potshots, cheapshots, crit, namecalling at me you want; I don't care and I won't see it because I'm not getting on here until I get home.
We are busy here at work and we had a big newsdrop here this morning so it's not a good day to have OMG on my screen, lol.
For one thing, Destiny, who's to say that Jake doesn't now regret some of the things that happened these past 2 1/2 yrs? Who's to say that this past summer, while he's staring out at the Atlantic, there weren't some things that he thought he sure would have done differently? Wouldn't have done? Or would have done? If I could have a quarter for every regret I've had in my behavior & words, I would probably be richer than Bill Gates and I'm not kidding.
ReplyDeleteBut if you watched that Tony & Gary documentary on cnn.com, you and everyone else would see the time, effort and $$$$ that goes into a gay couple trying to adopt a child. It's not something you decide on a whim. Jake & Austin had to have started thinking about the whole thing even before the beginning of 2007. You've got to research & interview the egg donor. You've got to research & interview the surrogate. Then there is the invitro process because it's not always successful that first time around. I know someone who is single and has gone through having her eggs fertilized. It has cost $10,000 every time to go through that entire turkey baster process. I call it turkey baster but that's just a slang term.
well, so much for that. I'm out of time. I'll have to maybe try tonight. I've got to get back to work.
But Special, you're not alone in your views. I'm still supporting the guys but I've got to get off of here for now. Just wanted to say that.
so take alllllll the potshots, cheapshots, crit, namecalling at me you want
ReplyDeletethere wasn't anything in my 7:32AM post that fits any of these descriptions. I don't understand why simply and calmly stated logic is met with such defensiveness.
I happily welcome the opportunity to respond to Special’s perceptive comment about Jake’s and Austin’s unconventional ways. In doing so, I’ll apply logic, as well as something that is often missing in these discussions, a large dose of compassion. First off, “to acknowledge” means nothing more than to recognize that if you agree that Jake and Austin are together and raising a family, then in comparison to standard Hollywood practices, what they are doing is groundbreaking. Many may be upset/frustrated that Jake and Austin have not chosen to publicly acknowledge their relationship or private life with them, but that does not mean they have not acknowledged, shared and celebrated their lives with family and friends, every step of the way.
ReplyDeleteJust because someone doesn’t tell or show you that something is true, doesn’t negate the existence of that unknown reality. There’s broad daylight and then there are the shadows of the more intimate and personal. That’s what the closet is all about. To suggest that if actors in the closet don’t acknowledge their homosexuality then no one else has to acknowledge the real truth behind the straight image is sort of like ostrich in the sand kind of behavior. In that case, every politician would be honest, every philandering husband would be faithful and every fool would be a genius. And, no, Special did not posit that living in the closet was groundbreaking. She suggested that Jake and Austin could have easily fallen into lock step (tow the party line), married some starlet or high fashion model and raised a family of 2.5 kids, all for public consumption and to advance their careers. Simply genuflect to established practice and maintain their dirty little secret on the side. No doubt the power brokers in Hollywood would have welcomed that kind of conformity, and rewarded it with plum roles, lavish salaries/perks and industry supported nominations/awards galore. On the other hand, if Jake and Austin did decide back in 2006 to plan for and have a family “on their own terms,” (which several of us believe to be true) that is not only groundbreaking, it is courageous and radical.
Some may consider the action a study in cowardice, but when considering what the alternative could have been (e.g. Orlando Bloom, Matthew McConaughey) maybe a more sympathetic reassessment might be in order. I, for one, believe that actors are marginalized when they dare to buck the system (just as in any career), and that Jake’s career has suffered, since 2006, because of the personal choices he has made, and because he followed his heart and not his head. But, that was the risk these two took, when they decided they wanted to share a life and raise a family together. No one has to believe this to be true, but a rational, logical and compassionate argument can be made to suggest that it is.
PG, you have the sweetest posts sometimes, and I mean that. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd M&M's too! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks PG and M&M for understanding where I was coming from and adding you own perspective and thoughts to it.
ReplyDeleteUh oh. Dissension in ranks. Time to rally around the most delusional of all. Because that makes all the sense in the world.
ReplyDeleteShe suggested that Jake and Austin could have easily fallen into lock step (tow the party line), married some starlet or high fashion model and raised a family of 2.5 kids, all for public consumption and to advance their careers. ReplyDeleteI'm not going to debate the point about how groundbreaking it is to have children the way you believe they have, since I don't believe there are any children. But the points you make above don't seem valid to me in light of the fact that it seems to me that Jake DID "fall into lockstep" and he DID "genuflect to established practice" when he bearded for years. That's the one of the most established practices in HW. As far as "lavish salaries and plum roles," again, it seems to me that, for Jake, PoP was all about getting what Jake believed was a plum role and a lavish salary. Now it's true that Austin's career can't be described in the same way, but I don't think that has anything to do with his sexuality. I'm having a hard time figuring out exactly how it is that you think either Jake or Austin has "bucked" any system. They're deeply hidden in a closet, they've both bearded, and if you believe there is a child, they've publicly denied it's very existence, not just with actions, but with direct words. If the best you can do is try to label other people as cowards in some lame attempt to paint J&A as the Rosa Parks of the gay community, that's pretty pathetic. As I said, if you insist on looking for groundbreaking couples, you should look elsewhere. I don't have a problem with anyone not wishing to come out, and I wouldn't criticize anyone who wishes to keep their private life private. I do have a problem with faking a romance for years.
I get what M and M is saying. Life is not black or white. This choice or that choice. There are many gradations/choices in-between.
ReplyDeleteIf you believe that Jake and Austin are together as a couple and chose to have children together and create their own family that means that they got some of what they wanted and the bearding was the compromise to the executive types. Let's face it, Jake's bearding was never even believable so it looked like he may have agreed to the arrangement, but refused to walk the red carpet as a couple, or conduct joint interviews or, for that matter, even verbally acknowledge that she even existed, until the bizarre and awkward "girlfriend" statement a week before the break-up became official. So, yes, I would say that Jake put his foot down and said no fake marriages, no loveless children. But, I still want to work in my chosen career so I'll play ball a little bit. Who knows what the future will bring. Yes, he agreed to stay in the closet, but he still got the family he wanted. Not the manufactured one, the power structure would have preferred.
If the best you can do is try to label other people as cowards in some lame attempt to paint J&A as the Rosa Parks of the gay community...
ReplyDeleteI've been reading for a long time and that is about the lamest statement I've seen in a long time. No one is trying to label Jake and Austin as the Rosa Parks of the gay community. You seem to have a problem that intelligent, logical arguments can be made to indicate that (if you believe they're together as a couple) there are aspects of what these two men have done which can be viewed in a much more favorable light. Too many people prefer to judge and condemn them, instead of trying to understand their choices and realize that maybe there were acts of courage and risk taking that have not been considered before. I like Jake. Think he's a good guy. A loving person. So I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Thank you M&M for providing a more generous angle on what's been happening over the past few years.
I'm having a hard time figuring out exactly how it is that you think either Jake or Austin has "bucked" any system. They're deeply hidden in a closet, they've both bearded, and if you believe there is a child, they've publicly denied it's very existence, not just with actions, but with direct words.
ReplyDeleteRead the words again. Don't believe anyone called their actions perfect. They did, however, seem to figure out how to avoid the Orlando Bloom nonsense and even their bearding attempts can be seen as lackluster. Particularly with Jake who, more often than not, appeared to be going through the motions. And, how long has it been since Jake has dated? Nine months! In Hollywood years that's like a lifetime. Unlike others, I don't think Jake took PoP to advance his career. The script was pathetic, the past history of films based on video games not a promising one. Yes, the money was good, but the ability to be in Morocco and England probably seemed highly attracted to someone who was trying to avoid the paps and maybe raise a child out of the Hollywood spotlight during the first year. As PrairieGirl said, having a child from surrogacy is not cheap so that may have factored into his decision making as well. Just a thought.
No one is trying to label Jake and Austin as the Rosa Parks of the gay community
ReplyDeleteSK specifically used the words "groundbreaking" and "on their own terms" so she certainly was trying to portray them as brave trailblazers. I don't have any problem with intelligent, logical arguments, but I don't believe they are a couple because I haven't seen any intelligent, logical arguments or any eviedence that they are. (Aside from "Ted said so" and that doesn't count for me as intelligent or logical, sorry). M&M's post was nicely written but the point of it seemed to be asking for compassion, not making any logical arguments that J&A are a couple and there certainly wasn't anything in it to support the claim that they have chidren. I'm not judging them for having children because I don't believe they have any. I don't dislike Jake. I don't know him, but he seems like a nice guy and a loving person. But it doesn't make him a trailblazer or a groundbreaker.
And regarding 3:55PM's remark about no fake marriages - I think you need to add "yet." You can't predict what will happen in the future.
Read the words again. Don't believe anyone called their actions perfect
ReplyDeleteNo, you read the words again. I never claimed anyone called their actions perfect. I simply pointed out the ways they haven't "bucked" the system and the ways in which they have gone along with the HW system. And what are you going to say when Jake beards again? Austin is bearding right now.
The idea that Jake took the PoP job in order to keep his newborn out of HW seems like a fanciful rationalization. It seems to me that as the child gets older it has a greater need to be out of the HW spotlight than when it was a newborn, but I won't get into it further since I don't believe in BT. And as for the expense, please. People with MUCH MUCH less money than Jake have used surrogacy.
