PoP on Top

Jake and PoP pulled off a hat trick this past week.

PoP debuted No. 1 on all three charts, DVD sales, DVD rentals, and Blu-Ray.

PoP sold nearly 2:1 unit to it's nearest competitor, "Letters to Juliet," which debuted at No. 2, and television show "The Big Bang Theory"(Season 3) and "Glee: The Complete First Season" and even beat out Barbie! in "Barbie: A Fashion Fairytale".

While PoP did not meet expectations at the US box office, it looks like DVD sales will be strong for the film and could ride over into a little PoP for Halloween

and leading into PoP Holiday.

  2. Adam Levine in OUT

You’ve also gotten a lot of attention for hanging out with Jake Gyllenhaal.
Will everyone stop thinking that dude is gay? Seriously guys. How immature is it of the media to perceive this guy -- it has to be because of Brokeback, right? I’ve known this dude forever. He’s one of my oldest friends, and it’s very weird that they have this -- it’s very immature and infantile the way they treat his whole situation. If him hanging out with his bros means he’s gay, it’s like further perpetuating that weird homophobia that exists in our culture, which is just stupid. So, yeah, he’s my buddy. I fuckin’ love the guy.

  3. Only an idiot or someone with something to hide would call discussing whether someone is gay "weird homophobia".

And funny, he's the one who brought up the gay stuff, not the interviewer, unless something didn't get posted above.

Edward Zwick’s Love & Other Drugs will open the AFI FEST 2010 in Los Angeles on November 4 and Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan will close the event a week later. - Screendaily

  5. Did anyone else notice that Adam never once outright says Jake isn't gay. And that people should stop thinking that. No one was implying that, but Adam immediately saw it as a threat.

  6. Hello there, Mr. Austin Nichols. You look awesome in your surf suit. It would have been more than awesome if you brought along your BFF Jake Gyllenhaal to your surfing adventure. Jake and Austin in their surf wetsuit? That would be great, right? Oh, Austin, you look awesome without your shirt too. You should remove it more often like that beach boy, Matthew McSomething.

  7. Well, first off, congrats to Jake for a home run with the DVD. I thought it would do well as Disney flicks appeal to kids who want to view them over and over.

Didn't they try that Jake is not gay tactic with some ancient gossip gal. It backfired and just wound up re-energizing the is Jake gay debate on the web. And you are right. Adam's statement does not even make sense. He does not actually say that Jake is not gay, just that lots of people think he is gay. Note to Adam - it has nothing to do with Brokeback. It is the result of Jake's demeanor and behavior these many years.

  9. Make sure to keep an eye out for an upcoming feature where we have a sit down with a modern legend in the world of film. Edward Zwick, who has directed films like The Last Samurai, Blood Diamond, Defiance, and Glory, has a new film on it's way called Love & Other Drugs starring Jake Gyllenhall and Anne Hathaway. Let me just get this out of the way, the movie is phenomenal, and while I can't share all the details with you just yet, take my word for it, this is one to look out for. We were lucky enough to grab a few minutes of Mr. Zwick's time and chat a bit about the upcoming Rom-Com-Dram (my term...trademarked, don't steal it). Well be sure to let you know as soon as the interview goes live but until then here are a few highlights.

-We talk about the need for nudity in the film (and there is ALOT of it), and how he prepared the actors for such a....revealing....role.

-What is it about his directing style that consistently leads his actors to Oscar glory?

-What are the main differences between this film and his other more action based dramas.

-The cultural impact of Viagra on our society.

  11. Why so much about Jake and Toothy in Ted today? Well you got your answer, Mr. Levine.

It looks like Ted got the heads up on the Levine comment coming out today and got it in first thing this morning. After all these years in the biz, you know Ted has contacts over at OUT.

  12. Good catch Special. Ted has been quiet about Toothy for a while so it was odd to see him come up today. Let's see if Ted counters with a rash of Toothy clues over the next few days.

  15. Dear Ted:
I hate the idea that bearding works, but I suspect that some of my fave celebrities are playing that game big time, and I am torn because I want them to be successful but happy too. I would guess that one could say that bearding has definitely helped guys like Toothy. He seems pretty successful, but what if he hadn't played that game? What about Judas Jack-Off and Dashed Dingle-Dream? Has bearding seemed to help their careers any, or is it too soon to tell? Is success always determined by getting bigger and better roles on TV or in movies, or could it also be that bearding actors get to keep jobs they have and like but with more money or other perks?
    —Supercurios

    Dear No Shave November:
If it sounds a bit dramatic, well, it's Hollywood, but if Toothy, Judas or any of ‘em came out, their careers would be over. It's different for A-list move stars like T2 compared to say Neil Patrick Harris—whole different rules. Totally lame, but that's how it is

    Dear Ted:
Did you hear the good news about Florida? We finally lifted the ban on adoptions by gays! Baby steps (pun intended). Not much about Toothy Tile or Grey Goose lately. Any new tales to tell?
    —XXOO

    Dear Gator Gold:
Kudos to Florida! Now if Cali could only get its act together, we'd keep making those baby steps. T2 and G2 haven't been making much of a splash lately. Grey's been super busy with work, while Toothy is enjoying a bit of down time. When did these two become so friggin' boring?

LOL! Poor Ted, no inside info for years, and covers it up by calling them "boring".

  17. Great comments from Deadline Hollywood. More Oscar buzz for LaOD.

    Oscar Contenders, Part 2

LOVE AND OTHER DRUGS (Twentieth Century Fox - 11/24) This rare adult comedy from a major studio centers around a womanizing pharmaceutical salesman who falls hard for a free-spirited girl with early onset of Parkinsons disease. Director Ed Zwick delivers sex, drugs, nudity, and smart dialogue in a film that will do for Viagra what Social Network does for Facebook. Oscar Chance: A winning Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway in career-best performances should be high on any list. And the film is sophisticated and different enough to become a strong possibility in Best Picture and Adapted Screenplay, too.

  19. Really good points about Adam PG, especially the fact that it was Adam that brought up all the gay stuff about Jake. Isn't he just doing what he accuses others of doing?

I really think Ted is exagerating about coming out killing careers for movie stars. I can't believe that if someone with a lot of appeal and clout came out that they would never work again.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I'm surprised they're ordering more scripts for OTH. I know the 2.2 million it got for the season opener was considered pretty good for a Tuesday on CW, but this week it dropped back to 1.9 million viewers with Glee on.

  21. Ted's comment today fits exactly what Jake and Austin are doing at the moment, so are clues in their own way.

Cruising around the web looking at comments, the whole Adam thing did not get much play and he did nothing to change anyone's mind about Jake. I am always surprised at how little interest there is in Jake on websites, other than the few devoted to Jake directly.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I was surprised about the 6 episode addition too, but it is a time slot filler. The 1.9 million seems decent until you see the numbers for all of the other shows. Really low versus all of the competition. I don't think the CW has a replacement ready to put into that time slot even if they wanted to.

  24. I can't believe Adam Levine made those comments. Does anyone know why he was doing an interview with the Advocate in the first place. Sounds to me like he is asking the Gay community to back off any debate involving Jake's sexuality. I def think Adam is one of Jake's str8 friends Ted talks about. I also think the hanging out with guys he is talking about is Matt, Lance and Austin. Adam doesn't seem to get Jake was practically sitting on Austin's lap in those first set of Laker game pics. I don't think he is talking about himself.

  25. I also think Jake's friends and family are very protective of Jake and realize how important it is for Jake to remain in the closet for his career.

  28. Well, it's a good thing I just don't have time to talk at length. I'm still steamed. So it's probably just as well I don't have time to put a comment together.

I have a co-worker, dear friend named Roy who I was just getting to work with more frequently here in the plant who right now is entering the final phase of his life. I think he's right around my age and he always used to sing my name every time he saw me or called me. He has colon cancer and it recently spread. One of our production people gave me one of those rubber bracelets with a Bible verse Ps. 118:17 on it to symbolize Roy because I had signed Roy's Caring Bridge page and poured out my heart to him because I had a feeling I would not see him again.

That guy had colon cancer that spread to his liver & spine, taking chemo & he was still at work. Even standing up at the prod lines when he had to but mostly he had a desk job. And he did it wonderfully. I love Roy with all my heart and he really impacted alot of people's lives with the way he lived.

It sure hurts something awful to lose my buddy. I told him I still had his darn ol' #2 pencils for him. LoL. I got him whatever he asked for. There are some people that you know, you would just do absolutely anything for, you'd chop down wood for them. And Roy was that for me.

Adam doesn't give a fuck if Jake beards or not, why should he care?

Adam wants to appear gay freindly by agreeing to do a Q and A with a gay magazine but he really is a homophobe IMO.

The only thing Jake regrets is that Reese pulled the plug on it earlier than planned as per Ted.

Would explain why he is walking around NY looking like a homeless man, riding subways and carrying his belongings in plastic garbage bags at gallery openings=depression.

I have a feeling a mjority of Jakes pals are of Levine's ilk

  30. So sorry to hear about your friend PG. Sometimes we forget the impact we have on others just living our lives. It is wonderful that you had opportunity to tell him what he meant to you. Sometimes we think we have all the time in the world do that, and never getting around to telling people. Thinking of you. (((PG)))

I kind of think that too; seems like all he cared about was getting rid of the rumors about himself, even if it meant raising the rumors again about Jake.

M, the interview is getting some attention. Huffington Post, Dlisted, Perez and ONTD that I know of.

The fact that Jake is so closeted and his friends are "defending" him (not that I'd call what Adam did defending Jake), and the fact that sites are so quick to pick up on any talk of Jake not being gay, in my mind makes Jake his generation's Cruise or Travolta.

  32. I also am very sorry about your friend PG. Colon Ca is such a tough one to beat if you dont find it early. Colon Cancer is also very hereditary so anyone who has a family history should be screened very closely.
