Chap -schtick

Just saw TRUE GRIT. Only understood 20% of what came out of Jeff Bridges' mouth. Loved 100% of it.

Just saw BLACK SWAN. I'm ready to give up acting for ballet.

Could a Tall Texan do both?

Westerns

and Ballet?

Well Mr. Nichols you can.

Say Rodeo.

No PG they are not all old geysers in the Academy, unless you call Jake an old geyser. He was made a member of the Academy a year after his nomination.

Austin is not a member. I wonder if Austin is taking advantage "knowing" a member who gets screener copies of all the movies that are campaigning. (True Grit, Black Swan)

I think a large majority of the voters are old geysers SK. One of the big reasons Brokeback won everything but the Oscar.

  2. I can't hold back any longer - are we talkin' geysers or geezers here? :)

  3. M, I did catch Bomer singing on a fan site. My only regret is that is was sooo short, and even less of his voice given that it was a duet. But boy did he look gorgeous in his tux.

I did know he could sing, he tried out for musicals when he moved to NYC after college. Also, there is a great little clip of him on the set of White Collar singing. Did You Just F*ckin" Record That

I knew he was doing the Kennedy Center Awards and recorded the whole thing, but haven't had time to watch.

It's great that his people are able to get him things like this that get him positive attention.
What surprises me is how deep his singing voice is.

  4. I saw True Grit last weekend. I loved it, and I even liked it better than the original. My girlfriend and others have said they couldn't stop thinking of John Wayne, but I didn't think of him once. And the actress that plays the young girl is amazing.

It's also not exactly a remake of the original movie. Rather, they both use the same book as their inspiration. The plot is the same, of course, but the language is so beautiful in the new one, and the girl's character is grittier.

I usually don't like re-makes of classics either PG, but for me this one worked.

  5. One more thing, I thought Bomer had great chemistry with Kelli O'Hara, his duet partner. I would love to see him on the stage or do a musical movie.

  6. Destiny, now that you say that I do recall seeing that earlier clip of Bomer singing. Talented man.

POP got named as a 10 worst in FilmDrunk.uproxx.com's list today. Scathing write up so I wont repeat any of it but you know where to find it if you are interested.

I'm looking forward to this as well. I love a good Western, and The Coen Bros. are usually great with language, so I can't wait to see what they do with this. I don't remember if I saw the original in its entirety, but I do remember Kim Darby, who I keep thinking of when I see the photos of Hailey Steinfeld. She's supposed to be great in it. :)

That was a bit curt. Why so tense?

  9. Yes is it geeser or not geyser, although a lot of them probably do spout off.

  11. Thanks, Tom & Special. I didn't know how the Academy was made up.

Well, and if they did do a different spin on a classic, then that can work for me.

To me, there are just some and will always be some characters and movies that just shouldn't even be considered touching.

  12. Whew, time to rest a bit. Laundry always wears me out. Plus, trying to make the beginning transition from Christmas decorations to the winter theme. Lots of blue & silver, crystals, snowflakes, and blue, blue, blue! Even though I hate snow! LOL. That's what's kind of ironic & stupid. But it's fun to decorate with.

But the ol' Pg is worn out right now and needs to sit for awhile. **sigh**.
