Melting Pot

Austin is getting in to the spirit of the day, and also disclosing his Irish heritage (to go along with his Dutch baby ways)

Beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig! That means Happy St. Patrick's Day.

I am part Irish. And one of my best friend's name is Paddy. And I'm drinking a Guiness on an airplane. And practicing my best Irish accent.

Now Jake background is Swedish and Russian Jewish but who knew there is a French chef lurking inside?

Co-star Michell Monaghan talked about finding out about the French Chef during the premiere at SXSW. "We shot in Montreal, and [off-set] Jake played this sort of old, funny, French foodie chef – and talked a lot about food, because we ate a lot there." (People)

"Jake's an incredible impersonator with great accents,"

So who do you think is Jake's French chef influence? Some of these famous chefs?

Or has he been watching Ratatouille way too much?

And if he does a French chef? You gotta know he's done Julia.

But is it more Meryl? or Ackroyd?

May the sun shine, all day long,
everything go right, and nothing wrong.
May those you love bring love back to you,

and may all the wishes you wish come true!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

And Austin - some Irish that could come in handy.

Tabhair póg dom, is Éireannach mé!

And the picture - I agree!

  7. Well, it’s only fair. Jake visited the White House with his beard on June 25, 2009. Now, Austin gets to visit old 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. with his beard, as well. I wonder if Austin is going to tell Obama his dad’s story about that wild turkey on the White House lawn the night he was born?

  11. Yeah, I saw the mention about Jake being interviewed in LA tomorrow early this morning. No doubt it's just a coincidence that nowhere-to-be-seen Austin is now on the move the very same day.

  12. Jake is going to be on Conan!

Jake will be on Monday March 28th. The same night as Source Code's LA premiere.

Being on cable - what kind of shenanigans are they capable of?

  13. Jake will also be on Live with Regis & Kelly, Thursday March 31st.

  14. I've always loved the edgy interplay between Jake and Conan. Just like old times! I'm definitely looking forward to Jake displaying those impressive, ahem, marketing skills of his.

  16. It looks like Jake is Conan's only guest that night. Little Big Town is the musical group.

Jake is on Regis & Kelly with Howie Mandel as the other guest.

  17. JAKE Gyllenhaal has played down his title as Hollywood’s fittest celeb.

The sexy star was recently given the accolade by a men’s health magazine but Jake insists he hasn’t been working out to get attention.

“I really just do it for myself,” he said. “It’s just an incredible thing to exercise but for it to become like a meditative thing rather than just working out is amazing and that’s how it is for me.”

Jake recently revealed how he was left battered and bruised while filming his new movie Source Code.

“I had to do a jump off of a train,” he said.

“I was like, ‘Don’t worry. I got it guys. I’m cool.’ And then I injured myself. You see it in the movie when I jump off the train and then my legs go up and then I land on my shoulder. It was kind of an intense impact on my shoulder.” source

  19. Tom, glad to hear you liked The Social Network. One of the few DVDS I purchased lately. The script was great and Fincher's direction was solid. Quite a feat to make the subject matter so interesting.

Now I have an excuse to watch Conan. I have not checked out his new show yet. He and Jake usually have a great time together.

    Yes, that's right, Popular Mechanics.

  21. Another great review from BleedingCool.com

It’s fair to say that audiences and critics alike expect great things from Duncan Jones’ Source Code. That’s what happens when your debut movie is as big a favourite as Moon has become. But the pressure isn’t for Duncan Jones alone as there is hardly a scene in this film which Jake Gyllenhaal doesn’t appear. Just as well then that Source Code is not only a worthy successor to Moon, it also features what is arguably Jake Gyllenhaal’s finest performance.

...Credit here must go to Jake Gyllenhaal. Being blown up every eight minutes isn’t exactly conducive to character development but he manages to overcome it. The chilling moments in the pod complement the ‘real world’ of the train and, as Colter gets to know the doomed passengers on the train, the feelings warmth and compassion grow and the action begins to take a back seat. Against all odds, there are moments of true romance here. There are also little flutters of humour as Colter realises just how ludicrous his situation is.

...Much has been said about the similarities between Source Code and Inception and Groundhog Day, and it may well remind you of other things as well, but there is much more to Source Code than folding realities and repeating periods of time. As with most science fiction and time-travelling movies, there are going to be elements you will question or argue over. But beyond these questions, the film succeeds wonderfully on a larger scale too, combining a compelling and exciting thriller about the bombing of a train, and an intense and moving psychological drama about a man confined within his own mind.

  23. Dear Ted:
So Reese Witherspoon is getting married again—imminently, apparently. Now, it seems to me that when she and Jake Gyllenhaal split there was a lot of talk about how he wanted to get married but she wasn't ready to settle down. So she's been dating Jim Toth "for about a year," as the tabloids are now saying, with a mention of this seeming contradiction. Your take?
    —Christina

    Dear Altar Rusher:
Coincidences never exist in Hollywood, come on. Reese's relationship with Jake was nothing like what's going on with her agent-turned-fiancé. There's more than just an image. These two are totally in love, and good for them. The woman needs to move on, as Jake did with all his rebound ladies. A year is a perfectly decent amount of time to date someone when getting married at this point. Plus, she can't let ex Ryan Phillippe out-score her in the postdivorce romance department. Wonder if Ry and Jake got invites to the quickie nuptials, and who their dates would be?

  25. OMG, Bomer is co-hosting the 10 a.m. segment of the Today show, and he just talked about having three kids!!!!! He mentioned there names and ages, and blew them a kiss.

  26. I was a bit confused Destiny, because that hour of the today doesn't show here until 11am and all I saw was Al doing lines from Seinfeld. I just saw him with Hoda now.

  27. Way to go Bomer. He certainly has done everything but say the word. Wish Jake and Austin could follow his example. HW studios sure put fear in the hearts.

I love that Reese is getting married. If folks haven't figured out the reeke show yet I must question their intelligence.

Off to see the gorgeous Cole Hamels pitch against the Pirates.

  28. Tom, will we have to start collecting money just in case you rush the pitcher mound?

  29. Watched the Today Show and Hoda was a little stunned for a moment.(only can imagine what Kathy Lee what would do) It was sweet to see him send his love to his kids. Sometimes there's no need for a big splash to say a lot.

  30. Sometimes there's no need for a big splash to say a lot.

    Exactly.

Although I was taken by surprise, I figured it would happen eventually. I think he's been laying the groundwork to ease out completely. Also, he was on the Today Show a couple of weeks ago with Tim DeKay, who was asked about his children and traveling back every two weeks to see them while filming. I really got the feeling Bomer was bothered by not saying something about his own, and MUCHO KUDOS for doing the right thing by his kids.

Of course I couldn't help thinking about how Jake is always talking with pride about Ramona, but never about his own.

  31. Strange Special that they don't run that show right after the Today Show in Boston. I just always think of it as the last hour of the Today Show.

  32. I happened to be passing through Waiting for Toothy this morning and got tired of that person who keeps asking about how anyone could believe Austin and Jake are still together. I've never posted here before, but thought I would share my thoughts when my boyfriend (yes, I'm gay) nudged me to do so. I really don't have much else to say, but I guess I was just tired of all the crap about people being loons or idiots who might believe these two guys are still together. Maybe because I think there's a form of homophobia going on when no one can believe that two good looking, sexy and intelligent guys could ever want to settle down and have what everyone else enjoys. Here was my response and I thought it might be better received here than over there. Peace, love and maybe a little understanding would do us all some good.

Then who has Jake been with for the past 4 years? It certainly hasn't been Reesey or Tay Tay. I'm now about 75% sold on Jake still being with Austin Nichols. Jake went into the closet the same year he was still VERY closely associated with only one person...Austin (e.g. JFC all day assignation in Austin's trailer , Borders Bookstore, JAR and other restaurant sightings, rumors swirling about having a baby together). Yet, throughout the past 3.5 years we've only seen Jake associated with beards or phony associations with women like Munn, Lucas, Bilson -- even a little Dunst recycling during the filming of Source Code.

As much as Jake worked from the end of 2007-2010, there's no way he even had time to start up a relationship with someone else. He's 30 years old and definitely seems like a home body. So yeah, Austin is more than likely still in the picture just pushed into the closet...hidden away. While Jake publicly preens around like the everyday, heterosexual hound dog (the overkill this past January and February was particularly nauseating). The question is what's he going to do now. The latest article in Men's Life indicates that he's going to "rebrand" himself from the most eligible bachelor to Hollywood's most discreet. Probably hinting that since Jake doesn't have anything new coming up and Nichols is about to finish his last year on One Tree Hill that Jake is going to be pushing himself deeper into the closet as well. For how long? Who knows?

  33. Fed Up, glad to see you speaking up.

As you've probably seen I've been trying to argue on wft2 against that thinking. I have no problem with people who have different opinions, but what has been going on the last couple of days has taken on a nasty tone.

I do think a lot of it comes from a gay man who has a lot of internalized homophobia. I think he prefers to think of Jake as a deeply closeted man having anonymous sex on the down low, and is deeply disturbed by thoughts of him being in a relationship and having children.

  34. M and M, thanks for posting the links to Bomer so everyone else can see them.

Also have to mention Adam Lambert, who is looking incredibly hot lately with the dialed-back makeup and a great hair style, and who has recorded a new version of his song Aftermath, with some of the proceeds going to the Trevor Project.

  35. Finally got a chance to look at Austin's photos. LOL, only Austin would film the Washington Monument and the flagpole together like that. ;)

  36. Hi Fed Up, welcome and thanks for posting.

What I thought from that comment about being being rebranding himself as Hollywood's most discreet bachelor is a hint that he is not going to be seen bearding anymore.
