Under the guise of a 12 day trip to Indonesia, Austin Nichols has been secretly working in an intensive vocal training program to prepare for a shot on the show The Voice.
"Singing has been a passion of mine. Turning thirty last year I made a goal that I would kick start my singing career. I did have the chance to sing the theme song for the episode I directed this season.I've been really busy this year with the show and I had to wait it was was over for before I pursued it. As soon my contracted ended I was on the first plane out of there, heading to live out my dreams. I only have a couple weeks left to do this."
"I hoping to go on The Voice and be recognized for something more than my alarming good looks. It's tough being so damn handsome."
"What do I like to sing? I'm big fan of Kitty Wells and 'It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels', but I've really found my place as a singer with a combination of Western Swing, showtunes, Tibetan throat singing, and the Bee Gees. It works well with my range."
"I've been working on material over the past year, and working with a vocal coach for almost a year, lots of vocalization, extending my range and improving my technique. I just found a new coach to work with for my throat singing."
" Adam will probablythink it's me trying to get to sing with his band again, but I really want to work with Cee-lo, just for the outfits alone.""I'm going to start with the Theme to Thundercats. But my go to song is Katy Perry's "Fireworks" I think I can go all the way."
Happy Austin Friday. (and a little April Fool's too)
Somewhere in the world there is a big tall Texan with a beer in one hand and a mike in another belting out this one out today. ; )
Here's to a great opening weekend for Jake!

Hey...wanted to share, esp w/ SK...am sponsoring, hosting, mentoring...whatever...Thai guy here for the summer. Going to Kaplan U. to learn English. Never done this before, but it's an experience. He speaks VERY little English, fortunately my nephew's wife is Thai (lives in Quincy). He arrived last Saturday at Logan, and has mastered bus & T already! Would welcome you, SK to my home to meet him, and anyone else willing to make a trip to Boston.
ReplyDeleteBTW, he's adorable :)
ReplyDeleteHi E.V., sounds like you're going to have a fun summer. :)
ReplyDeleteI was looking at the ads for SC in the paper and noticed that Jake and Duncan are going to be "introducing" the film at three of the showings tonight; two at a Times Square theater, one at the theater in my neighborhood (no, I'm not going again). It's not unusual for directors to do this in NY with smaller films, but usually you don't get any of the actors appearing too.
Phils win! Phils win! Phils win!
ReplyDeleteGreat opening day game.
Does anyone else think that Regis might be a little suspucious that Jake is Gay or am I imagining that?
I thought it was so honorable when Jake said yes when Regis asked him if he wanted a family someday.

Congrats to the Phils for winning Opening Day. Not a great day for the Sox. Big Papi had it tied up, but then the Rangers went ahead by 4 to win 9-5.
ReplyDeleteBaseball Break is over.
That would be fun EV! And great to see you.
Dest - I think Source Code is a baby for Jake. I have seen a lot of comments wondering if Jake was a producer. Jake wasn't officially but I think he took this unique opportunity with Duncan almost like an internship for producing and directing. I can totally see him wanting to do all these small meet and greets as part of it.
Thanks Roma for the links for the reviews. Everything I keep seeing the consensus is very positive. Can't wait to see it.
Details from last night's after party.
ReplyDeleteSome of the guests: Howard and Beth Stern, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Seth Meyers, Rufus Wainwright, Russell Simmons, Gina Gershon, John Varvatos, James Marsden.
"The stars of “Source Code” were present and accounted for, with the heavily lusted-after Gyllenhaal (“He is impossibly cute,” one partygoer squealed, midselection of a bite-size Kobe beef slider from a passed tray. “He just has that guttural-sound-provoking movie-star quality: Oomph!”) posing with co-stars Michelle Monaghan (in a teal Roksanda Ilinic cocktail dress) and Jeffrey Wright."
Due to the layout of the space and the seemingly unshakable human tendency to gravitate toward those with bold-faced names, partygoers clustered and clotted around armchairs, couches and protruding wooden shelves of tea lights, creating a sort of party gridlock/human-moat around Monaghan and Gyllenhaal.

Looking at the competition Hop is opening on 3,579 screens, Source Code 2,961 and Insidious 2,408.
It might not beat Hop who has 600 more screens but Source Code should have a big weekend.
8 Milestones in the Evolution of Jake Gyllenhaal
ReplyDeleteAfter a lackluster performance in the "Prince of Persia" and only a lukewarm reception for "Love and Other Drugs," Gyllenhaal delivers an intense, hard-edged character that we haven't seen from him before. Right out of the gate he manages to capture and hold the audience's attention - not an easy feat, given that the first half of the film revolves around reliving the last eight minutes of a doomed train ride. It's hard to build suspense when the audience knows what's going to come next and sees it multiple times. However, Gyllenhaal excels and each time he finds himself thrown back into the same set of circumstances, he finds a different angle to play up in a highly nuanced performance.
ReplyDeleteHis trademark "gentler" side also makes an appearance when he learns about the circumstances that led him to be a part of the source code trial. Farmiga is as cool as a cucumber, the pinnacle of professionalism in her role as the Captain who is instructed to give nothing away.

ReplyDeleteFRIDAY PM: I am still on medical leave. And in pain. And understandably cranky. But I asked Universal to forward me early box office numbers today and those overpaid slackers are too self-absorbed to care about the one filmmaker, Illumination Entertainment's Chris Meledandri, who is singlehandedly rescuing that bomb factory. If Universal doesn't make a big deal about Hop overperforming today, why should I? (Note to Steve Burke: Fire the studio's entire executive, marketing, and PR staff. They're useless...) Guess would be $10 million for today and $35M for the weekend from 3,579 theaters, which is more than the $30M Universal predicted at the start of the week. Meanwhile, Summit Entertainment is conservatively estimating Friday's grosses for Duncan Jones' direction of Jake Gyllenhaal in the thriller Source Code at $5.2M for a $15 million weekend from 2,961 theaters. Once again, Jake can't open a movie to $20M, but at least this isn't a complete disaster. Meanwhile, FilmDistrict's horror flick Insidious (2,408 theaters) was produced for only $1 million and also earned millions in international pre-sales. By afternoon, the film had already made back its negative cost many times over. While many are trying to mimic this low-budget/wide release model, the Paranormal Activity team of Oren Peli and Jason Blum keep doing it with engrossing marketing, too.

Okay, slight correction now.
ReplyDeleteAustie wasn't exactly shipped off, he was boated off!!
lol!
And at sea for 7 days. Just like his ol' lady is doing a Charles Kuralt with her 7 Day CrossCountry Tour. What about the other 5 days?
Where's the pic though? He forgot to attach the time/dated pic!!!! Didn't it say Photo on? He forgot the attachment. Don't you hate when that happens.
Gotta say it's great to see he's got his Voice back. Missed you, buddy!
The Lenten Fish Fry was excellent-o last night. I don't know where they get their fish but it is great. Salmon was not bad. I passed on the tilapia this time - it was a total focus on the fried fish and worth the standing in line.
ReplyDeleteThere's a Catholic church in my old neighborhood in Kansas City that served Wisconsin Style fried fish for their dinners. Man oh man, that was the best. I don't know what it is about Wisconsin Style but good, good stuff there.
Since KU was bumped out of the Sweet 16, people were at the church in full force! And you could get all you can eat shrimp if you wanted. You could also have crawfish if you were brave enough. Man, if those things didn't look, to put it politely "offputting".
Have you seen Source Code yet, PrairieGirl? What did you think of it?
ReplyDeleteShe's boycotting the movie because Austin didn't send any coded Tweets for a week.
