Chris Hughes born November 26, 1983 and grew up in Hickory, North Carolina, as the only child of Arlen "Ray" Hughes, a paper salesman, and Brenda Hughes, a public-school teacher. He was raised as an evangelical Lutheran. He is a graduate of Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts. In 2006 he graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University with a Bachelor of Arts in history and literature.
Hughes served as the coordinator of online organizing for Barack Obama's 2008 presidential campaign on My.BarackObama.com, the campaign's online social networking website. He was the subject of an April 2009 cover story in Fast Company magazine under the headline, "The Kid Who Made Obama President; How Facebook Cofounder Chris Hughes Unleashed Barack's Base - and Changed Politics and Marketing Forever." In March 2009, Hughes was named Entrepreneur in Residence at General Catalyst Partners, a Cambridge, Massachusetts, venture-capital firm.
Hughes is the Executive Director of Jumo, a non-profit social network organization which he founded in 2010, which "aims to help people find ways to help the world". In July 2010, UNAIDS (Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS) appointed him to a 17-member "High Level Commission" of renowned politicians, business leaders, human rights activists, and scientists tasked with spearheading a "social and political action campaign over the coming year aimed at galvanizing support for effective HIV prevention programs."
He is also an invitee of the Bilderberg Group, an annual, unofficial, invitation-only conference of approximately 120 to 140 guests from North America and Western Europe, most influential people in the world. About one-third are from government and politics, and two-thirds from finance, industry, labor, education and communication. Hughes attended the Swiss 2011 Bilderberg conference at the Suvretta House in St. Moritz, Switzerland.
In March 2012, he purchased a majority stake in The New Republic Magazine and became publisher and editor in chief of the magazine.
Openly gay he attended President Barack Obama's first state dinner with his then boyfriend Sean Eldridge, Political Director of Freedom to Marry. Hughes and Eldridge announced their engagement in January 2011 at a reception in support of Freedom to Marry. They married on June 30, 2012.

Thanks so much for the videos.
ReplyDeleteI did see a few of those Jake smiles sprinkled in there.
And seriously does anyone wear a suit better than Jake? Talk about the poster boy for impeccable tailoring.
Happy Rosh Hashanah to all who celebrate.
ReplyDeleteIt's so great to see someone like Chris Hughes using his money and power to push for gay rights.
Sometime Jared's randomness is baffling. Why would he make a post about Nicole Richie and Jake in a post about the ALMA awards. There's not even one pic of them together.

Michael Pena about Jake:
ReplyDelete“Unfortunately, we didn’t have anything in common at first,” Pena says. “But we did a lot of training together for this film and became great friends. We really had each other’s back. I can call him about anything. He’s a good guy and a complicated dude.”
Anna Kendrick Anna Kendrick about Jake:
She describes Gyllenhaal as “a very sincere person,” with generosity and patience that inspire her fawning. “Jake should direct actors immediately. I think he would get the most stunning performances out of people. He’s just so connected and so willing to go the extra mile to help everyone out in their performance. He doesn’t think like an actor, he thinks like a director and it’s really beautiful.”
