While Jake is winding up with Prisoners and having another busy week of press, things are getting ready for Jake to start his next project, and this time as the press.
More cast are being added each week to join Jake and Rene Ruso on Nightcrawler. Last week Bill Paxton was announced to join the cast of Dan Gilroy's directorial debut of his own script about a driven young man, (Jake), who discovers the nocturnal world of freelance crime journalism in Los Angeles. He scripted “The Bourne Legacy.”
Add a new name to the list of cast, this week. The Wrap exclusively announced that actor Riz Ahmed is set to join Jake, Bill and Rene Ruso.
Ahmed will be Jake's driver and protege in the movie.
Some might know Ahmed, from the movies “Four Lions” or Mira Nair’s “The Reluctant Fundamentalist.”
Nightcrawler will start shooting in LA in October. But first Jake has a full court press for Prisoners to finish up. Catch him here:

P.S. Pop Quiz: What Austy connection is there to Nightcrawler? That will be
Bill Paxton. How? Paxton is one of the producers of Parkland.
When it comes to Jake Gyllenhaal, many, and probably for the right reasons, gravitate towards his work in Ang Lee’s “Brokeback Mountain” as his shining moment in film history. I believe he’s gone deeper in works like “Jarhead” and “Zodiac” but those were just the surface of what he can do as an actor. As Detective Loki, Gyllenhaal stands firm and tall in one of the year’s finest performances. Terrifically executed as a man disconnected from real emotion, he finds himself enamored by the mystery surrounding two missing girls. He also orchestrates character beats and ticks that’s reminiscent of Joaquin Phoenix’s towering work in “The Master” last year.

Is Jake's PR team on the prowl at OMG too? Some of these articles are written like Jake is the greatest actor who ever lived. Let's have a little nuance and depth, instead of these unqualified assessments and walk on water reviews.
ReplyDeleteinstead of these unqualified assessments
ReplyDeleteLOL,, warns those of Variety or Playlist, that they are not qualified enough to release movie reviews
I did notice that the critic's Rotten Tomatoes score is dropping, not going up, as we get closer to the opening date. They may have put some restrictions on critics to keep the negative reviews out of the press until after the film opens. I'm not suggesting that the performances are not good, but the subject matter and tone may simply be too dark for some.

ReplyDeletewhat's your f** problem 8:14 PM?
Hey, watch your language when speaking to other posters. They did not speak to you in that fashion and had every right to express their opinion.
Clean it up. We don't talk to each other in that fashion over here.

ReplyDeleteActually There are at least a dozen rave reviews, not yet insert on rotten tomatoes, which should bring the rating to about 92/93%
Don't forget Jake will be on The Daily Show tonight.
ReplyDeleteAnd an Update:
Jake will be on Good Morning America tomorrow morning. And then he will be heading over to sit down with Kelly & Michael.
I totally get what Yawn is talking about. Jake's Mgmt has been all over Twitter for about the past week or so. I don't mind some good word of encouragement, but what they're doing is pretty obvious; flooding Twitter with overflowing, over-the-top endorsement.
ReplyDeleteLet his acting speak for itself and quit trying to buy attention with paid accounts.
Prairiegirl it's really sad and unfair to Jake and his talent, what you're saying,
ReplyDeletecan not you just be happy for him, and recognize its value and quality of the his work?
I do not know if you know this, but Prisoners, almost won the TFF, 12 years a slave, Philomena and Prosoners were the front runners
What's sad and unfair is the fakery that surrounds Jake's image these days. Who knows what's true anymore when Jake and his reps use every opportunity to distort and inflate his popularity with both the public and the movie industry and his peers. Oh, excuse me. I mean the heterosexual public.
ReplyDeleteI could care less about any TIFF recognition. How true was it?
ReplyDeleteAnd that is not a slap at you, it's just me being frank.
There is so much fakery (bearding, photo ops), so much planting (tweets, Facebook & interviews), so much verbal lying on Jake's part (Letterman and movie promos), so much intended deception (teal sneakers and green pants), that I don't know anymore what is true of Jake. I don't think there's much about the Jake we see that is genuine.
He and his management are on such a mission with his career "path", I don't believe much of anything presently involving the guy. And that goes for Austin as well, because where there's one, there's the other.
An eloquent and beautiful statement about authentic happiness and the "potential power of transparency."
ReplyDeleteBobby Steggert and the importance of living true
And as for the practical “fall-out” of an actor’s decision to live transparently, I would argue that if people don’t want to hire you because of their altered perception of your sexuality, they’re probably not the people you want to be working with in the first place. They lack imagination. And isn’t imagination the point of it all?"
