Caitlin Cahow was born May 20,1985 in New Haven, Connecticut and raised in Branford, Connecticut. She was named after figure skater Caitlin Carruthers, who won a silver medal for pairs skating with her brother, Peter Carruthers, at the 1984 Olympics. Her mother, Barbara Kinder was a professor of surgery at Yale University School of Medicine.
Her father, Elton, was a surgeon and he died of cancer when she was only 11 years old.
Cahow has two brothers, Garrett and Christian.
Cahow attended the Foote School, where she graduated in 2000 and then attended the Hotchkiss School where she graduated in 2003 after playing soccer, field hockey, ice hockey and lacrosse. She then went on to college graduating from Harvard University in 2008 with a degree in anthropology. She also studied the French language while there and has used her language skills for interviews with French-Canadian media. She went on to attend Boston College Law School, graduating with a J.D. in the Spring of 2013.
While Cahow’s mother was a professor at Yale University, her first exposure to the ice rink was through figure skating. After one figure skating practice, she saw hockey players take to the ice and noticed that the players had ponytails. From there, she gave up figure skating and attended a kids hockey clinic. Most of the students at the clinic were boys. Her mother forced her to play her first year in hockey wearing figure skates.
Cahow played four years at Harvard Crimson women's ice hockey in the ECAC Hockey. Led all ECACH defensemen with 37 points (15-22) in 34 games. And as a Junior (2006–07) led team defensemen with 28 points (8-20) in 30 games.
As a student at Harvard, she met Boston Lobsters tennis player Nicole Pratt. Cahow and Pratt developed a hockey-tennis dry-land workout which helped Pratt make a comeback at the French Open tennis tournament.
After collegiate hockey she went on to play for the Western Women's Hockey League. She tied for first among the league's defensemen with 21 points (3-18) in 19 games. She helped the Minnesota Whitecaps to the Western Women's Hockey League championship in 2008-09 season and was named top defenseman at the Championship.
One of Cahow's heroes was Manon Rhéaume. The two got the opportunity to play together for the Minnesota Whitecaps.
During the 2012-13 CWHL season, Cahow was the captain of the Boston Blades. By season’s end, she would become the second American-born captain to help a team win the Clarkson Cup.
Four-time member of the U.S. Women's National Team for the International Ice Hockey Federation World Women's Championship (gold 2008, 2009, 2011 and silver 2007)she played forward for the majority of the tournament and scored twice in the gold-medal game in 2009. She led U.S. defensemen with five points (2-3) and named one of Team USA's top-three players in 2008.
Cahow won a bronze medal at the 2006 Winter Olympics and a silver medal at the 2010 Winter Olympics.
Before the Olympics, Cahow Captained the United States Under-22 Select Team in 2006 after the USA Hockey National Women's Festival in Lake Placid.
Cahow is openly lesbian and was chosen by US President Barack Obama as part of his delegation to the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. She has called the trip humbling.
Olympics for ALL Moment:
The telecommunications giant AT&T posted a blog on Feb. 4 declaring its opposition to Russia's anti-propaganda law.
"AT&T has a long and proud history of support for the LGBT community
in the United States and everywhere around the world where we do
business. We support LGBT equality globally and we condemn violence,
discrimination and harassment targeted against LGBT individuals
everywhere. Russia's law is harmful to LGBT individuals and families,
and it's harmful to a diverse society," the statement read.
The company is not an IOC sponsor, but is a longtime sponsor of the United States Olympic Committee.
And because of a glitch - the wonderful video from Sweden didn't show up in yesterday's post. Here it is:
Actually m, I was wrong. I had 10 FB opinions by Facebook-ers and all of them were confused, said WTH, please explain, two hours lost never get back, etc. This evening, there were two more. Some are very vocal, others just plain didn't get it and ask if anyone else understood what the movie was about.
ReplyDeleteYou know, when there were interviews done for Enemy, Jake and Denis (Dake) spent so much time elaborating on their bromance and going on and on about that infamous bottle of wine, they hardly spent time talking about the movie itself.
That right there was probably the first questionable sign.
lol. Wow.
ReplyDeleteIt's time for the rally caps, isn't it, if you're a Jake follower? Who's got the rally caps?
It just doesn't get too much more challenging than it is right now. Jake and Austin buried in their closet. Enemy is getting hammered by customers who spent gouging money to see it on pay per view.
Austin is the beloved Valentine of a foul-mouthed 20-something Britney Spears wannabe. And now Jake's name is viral all over the internet as being the one to take ol' Tay's sweet, young innocence.
wow.
Who would have ever thought.
Rally caps, people! Rally caps, boys. It's time for a rally.
Jake is sometimes 'single' and not heard from for months on end. Now Jake linked to four women in one week- the 'mystery' curly-haired girl (Greta Caruso), Minka Kelly, Alyssa Miller and now again yet another leaked detail about his brief relationship with Swift. No coincidence. What is this distracting from hmmmm?
ReplyDeleteTaylor Swift is a bully. That much is clear. She's a huge bully.
ReplyDeleteBut Jake is 33 years old and has chosen this path and the silence.
What can you say? What can you do? I mean, if it just isn't a hellacious situation.
All you can do is watch. And I just do not get that. I don't get how you just take it.
Cover, do you think the V-card leak is on purpose?
ReplyDeleteThat would just be incredible, wouldn't it.
I see your point, though. I think a lot of it has been in reaction to the Power Beard story.
It would seem so. Part of Jake's new image courtesy of WME. JustJared is a mouthpiece so that story was probably fed. The Taylor Swift story a reaction to the Power Beard story for sure but it still backs up Jake's new image as a heartbreaker.
ReplyDeleteOld Jake- sweet guy, wants a family, just can't seem to find the right girl and this worked for awhile then looked suspicious once he's in his 30s.
New Jake- player who can't settle down like George Clooney. About face image from the guy who played father to Reece's kids and wanted to put a ring on it. Dates airhead models (read- it's only for the sex), has brief hookups and breaks hearts. Doesn't want long term relationships (said US mag). His family urges are suddenly and weirdly satisfied by being an uncle.
Sadly you nailed it Yep.
ReplyDeleteYeah, screw the rally caps. Jake and Austin are both making me want to barf today. I've never been so embarrassed and disgusted in my years on the blog.
ReplyDeleteThis story takes the cake. Personally, I think WME is ruining Jake's image and career. And Austin is just plain giving up on working to be a stay at home husband.
But am I going anywhere? Nope! Not going anywhere. Going to keep on driving Mgmnt nuts. Going to continue to keep my eyes open.
What a deal.
I'm stuck at O'Hare due to weather problems while headed east. D-Listed is a real classic today!
ReplyDeleteShould have added it's his commentary re Jake and Swift.
ReplyDeleteNow Jake linked to four women in one week- the 'mystery' curly-haired girl (Greta Caruso), Minka Kelly, Alyssa Miller and now again yet another leaked detail about his brief relationship with Swift. No coincidence. What is this distracting from hmmmm?
ReplyDeleteI agree. As PG has already stated, the Beard story was very damaging. At one fell swoop, Jake's gayness was put on prominent display, once again. Secondly, I think Jake's team is trying to distract from the horrific reviews of Enemy. The kind of reviews that can tank a career fast. And thirdly, the obvious discrepancy of Jake not being in Europe filming Everest beginning on January 13th, as he was publicized to be.
Jake Gyllenhaal Didn’t Show Up To Taylor Swift’s 21st Birthday Party After She Lost Her Virginity To Him
ReplyDeleteFebruary 17, 2014 / Posted by: Michael K
File this under: 3-year-old Taylor Swift FanFic written in the style of Judy Blume using lyrics from all of her songs.
Thanks, m! Michael K. does it again. LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!
ReplyDeleteFrom the Dlisted article:
“The day before — all was set — he was coming, no issues. But the day of, she doesn’t hear from him at all. No texts, no calls. Taylor thought maybe he was planning some sort of surprise. Nope. He didn’t show up and she locked herself in the bathroom and cried the entire night.
Her breakup with Jake inspired every word of RED. The song that specifically references this ‘event’ is ‘The Moment I Knew.’ They lyrics are all about her birthday party and Jake not showing up.”
I’ll wait here as you pour yourself a cup of throat coat tea and swallow an entire bag of lozenges, because you laughed your tonsils raw while reading that quote. Radar’s source got it all wrong. Jake didn’t “take” Taylor’s virginity. What really happened is that he took the last cherry tart they made in her Easy Bake Oven and that really pissed Taylor off so she disinvited him to her birthday party and then sent him a strawberry-scented envelope full of their shredded contract. That’s how they really broke up. The closest Taylor and Jake ever got to fucking was the time they were playing dolls in her play room (as part of their contract, he was forced to do that) and he kind of humped her Skipper doll with his Bow from She-Ra doll.
I think Jake's team is trying to distract from the horrific reviews of Enemy. The kind of reviews that can tank a career fast

this is so far the only rotten review on RT , and even this recognizes the extraordinary Jake's work
" Enemy is a mysterious and strangely atmospheric thriller , but outside of an exceptional dual performance by Jake Gyllenhaal , Its enigmatic nature nonsensical and offer very little reason to watch" .
surely it will reach other bad reviews, but that's what happens when you do an art film, complex and controversial
Definitely not a film for everyone but even the epic iconic Donnie Darko was not a movie for everyone, also Enemy won the Val d' Aosta film festival and I am not aware Denis is a native of Val d'Aosta.
Why you keep saying falsity about this movie?
Why you keep saying falsity about this movie?
ReplyDeleteNumber one, you can cut it out trying to pretend you're some new/different kind of commenter when it's just you.
You are not fooling me. Plus, you're the only one ever up at that hour in Jake World so give me a break.
ReplyDeleteI don't think you want me to put up all of those 14 or 15 Facebook commentaries, do you? I could because I've got them saved. But I'm not doing it; there's no need to kick something when it's down.
It took you over 24 hours to come up with your rebuttal, didn't it?
I'm not arguing with you. I look forward to big numbers and reactions when the movie is released.
Put your FACEBOOK comments PG, for every bad comment I Have at least two, who have loved the film
ReplyDeleteSam @SECMovies
Jake Gyllenhaal is brilliant in Enemy and continues to prove that he is one of the top working actors today. What he does in Enemy is great
You posted an excerpt from an interview that was robot tweeted for about 48 hours. "seethes" was the first big clue.
ReplyDeleteI'm not arguing with you. I don't have the time to waste this am. Talk to the hand.
Yes and that same review was robot tweeted over Twitter and Facebook over and over.
ReplyDeleteI'm done with you. Some of us have real jobs in the real world that are supporting this economy.
Yes and that same review was robot tweeted over Twitter and Facebook over and over.
ReplyDeleteit happens with all the reviews of all the movies not only with Jake, and what about the enthusiastic reviews of Indiewire, or Anne Thompson or Variety?
I wonder why a film that actually has its lead actors nominated for Best Actor and Supporting Actor categories, and has actually won several of those major awards already, costs a viewer only $5.99 on Direct TV but, Enemy costs a whopping $12.99. And, the esoteric Canadian Screen Awards nom doesn't count. There's probably not much more than 50 films made in Canada so I would hardly call that a competitive environment.
ReplyDeleteJake one of the top working actors today? I'm sure that's why the guy has been nominated for so many awards since Brokeback Mountain. I mean Prince of Persia, Love and Other Drugs and Rendition were pure classics. I simply can't figure out why the BAFTA's, SAG Awards or the Oscars have not recognized Jake's thespian genius since 2005.
ReplyDeleteAnd, there's no doubt that when I think of Daniel Day Lewis, Jake Gyllenhaal's name immediately leaps to mind.
When did OMG turn into the ANTI-fan blog? PG and several others seem to hate the very existence of Jake Gyllenhaal. So the question is - why expend so much energy in picking every aspect of his being apart?
ReplyDeleteWow, that Taylor Swift story sure is something. It really makes Jake look bad.
ReplyDeleteThe reason Enemies cost so much to watch is because it hasn't been released in theaters yet. It's becoming more common to show independent films that way, or releasing them on demand and in theaters at the same time, but it costs more than the typical movie that goes up after it's theater run is over.
Being a fan doesn't mean being a blind idiot who accepts everything PR says and loves everything an actor does.
