Jake's lending his talent to a great cause. And not his acting talent but his one for coloring.
Jake joined make up artist/business woman Bobbi Brown, designer Donna Karan, Ashley Judd, Paul Rudd, Rosie O'Donnell, Hall of Famer and sportscaster Jim Brown, musician Patti Smith, Wicked Broadway Show Star Idina Mendez, and ballet dancers Heather Watts & Dameon Woetzel in helping the National Dance Institute celebrate this weekend.
All have created a shirt to auction off to raise fund for the NDI who "has transformed the lives of more than 2 million public school children" through dance, music and visual arts.
This weekend the NDI celebrates their 2011 Event of the Year with this year's celebration entitled "A Sense of Wonder: Science & the Arts Play Together"
"Inspired by Carl Sagan’s words, “We are starstuff,” it takes a whimsical look at scientific concepts interpreted through dance, music and the visual arts." More than 200 kids are participating in performances exploring everything from DNA to artificial intelligence for three shows the next three days LaGuardia High School Concert Hall.
The NDI, was founded by ballet star Jacques d’Amboise has brought art to millions of NYC school children for over 34 years, helping to "develop standards of excellence, a pride of achievement and a curiosity about the world that supports their success in school and in life." No child pays a penny for NDI.

Special thanks to Roma for sharing this with us! - Gold Stars for you.
Awwww, how very nice. I love these shirts, I think Jake's is my favorite. Thanks, Roma! :)
ReplyDeleteJust in time for Father’s Day, looks like Jake and Austin are providing an East Coast/West Coast one-two punch to help children through the arts this weekend. As Jake extends his support to the National Dance Institute to transform/inspire NYC public school children through the StarChild T-Shirt 2011 Gala Auction, Austin is involved in his own West Coast version to help young people through the arts in the inaugural benefit for the Urban Arts Partnership at Broad Stage in Santa Monica. Great work guys!

Closing the Achievement Gap
Thanks for the great information about Austin helping out Urban Arts Partnership, M&M.
ReplyDeleteYou gotta love the total randomness of Austin's stuff.
I know Archie McPhee's in Seattle carry a whole line of action figures including Edgar. (Ok so I have few)

ReplyDeleteBear talking about his adventure with Jake.
Jake Gyllenhaal was pushed to his limits by Bear Grylls on a gruelling survival expedition.
The Hollywood star, who has trained to get in shape to star in action movies, went to Iceland with the former soldier for his show Born Survivor and asked to be pushed - but admitted he was surprised by how tough he found it.
Bear revealed: "A couple of weeks ago I took Jake Gyllenhaal, reportedly the fittest man in Hollywood, on a Born Survivor to Iceland. He said he wanted to to be pushed and afterwards said he'd never been pushed so hard.
He went on: "We had crazy conditions - sleeping in snow caves, huge river crossings and these torrential storms. I was a little bit nervous as I promised Jake's management team I would keep him alive, but he was brilliant.
"There's something magical about the raw emotion of fear and nerves. I think that's what people like about the show."
Gyllenhaal pushed to edge by Grylls
Oh, I don't think those quirky donations from Austin were inadvertent at all. They seem to be signature Austin to me. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI just hope he dropped off the posable Edgar Allen Poe with the twelve page, mini comic book that chronicles the poet's "crazy adventures!." I mean who cold resist that!
Love the shirt. I think Jake's is the best looking one too!

"Jake just lay there. You don't need a suit."
Great finds Roma and M and M.
ReplyDeleteLove love love Lucky Star, one of my favorites.
Destiny I remembered when I put was putting it up that you loved Madonna. It reminds me of Madonna starting out in NY and getting ready to take the world by storm. And with stars theme today I couldn't resist.
ReplyDeleteThe other song I kept hear when I saw Jake's shirt.
ReplyDeleteI've been to Hollywood
I've been to Redwood

for a heart of gold
I think he has one and found one in his golden guy.
Hi everyone! I am getting more and more mobile post-scoping knee surgery. What a super post today Special! Thanks a lot for bringing attention to such a great cause. NDI is a fantastic organization. Very nice of Jake to participate!
ReplyDeleteClarence Clemmons passed away. :-( :-( :-(
ReplyDeleteSo sad about Clarence Clemmons.
ReplyDeleteAw man, I didn't know about Clarence Clemons. Darn it all.
ReplyDeleteMy internet connection here is awful; seems I can only get on decently in the mornings and late in the evenings - and at that, I need to be outside so I am out here in the dark on the deck.
That's so sad - Bruce Springsteen & his band must be hurting so much today in addition to Clarence Clemons' wife & family.
That big guy was just a mainstay and he also played in Lady Gaga's latest single, I think it's On the Edge?
Well, sorry I haven't been around today - probably won't be around much tomorrow either, or the whole week. I can't be sitting out here in the doggone dark, LOL!
ReplyDeleteI've been battling LJ for the past hour and a half, I bet trying to post.
I just put up an Update and I am not posting again for who knows how long. Internet Explorer is not transferring correctly for me to LJ - my margins and paragraphs are all SCREWED UP and I refuse to break up a 3600+ chapter on Mozilla Fox. Refuse to.
I may either stop the story or do it by personal email for people. I'm not going through that crap again - I'm tired of it. Ol' PG has reached the end of the line on her patience. You learn what is worth it and what is not worth the aggravation and this is not worth the amount of time going into it. Nor the aggravation.
Anyway, I'm headed inside to AC and lol, here I am sitting out here in the dark. I'm so uninformed, too!! I haven't looked at anything on the internet since early this morning. I'm in the dark.
Those are some gosh awful looking Tshirts. Jake's is nice looking but the rest thumbs down. lol
Thank you Roma for the insider!!! Hope your recovery is on the right path!!
Take care of that knee Roma.
ReplyDeleteAustin took part in The 24 Hour Plays last night.
ReplyDeleteIt's 24 actors 6 directors and 6 writers who have 24 hours to take a play from conception to performance.
On Friday night the actors brought ideas and props for their roles and what they would like to and didn't want to portray on stage.
Austin brought his unicycle and his Edgar Allen Poe action figure. Eva Mendez brought a chicken mask, Zachary Levi brought a shake weight.
Others people who participated in the event beside Austin , Eva and Zachary, were Community's Gillian Jacobs, 30 Rock's Jack McBrayer, Zarachy Levi Leslie Bibb, Raven Symone, Adam Brody, Yvette Nicole Brown, Jenna Elfman, Cam Gigandet, Rosie Perez and Nia Vardalos and Sophia.
The event was to help raise awareness for arts -integrated ed programs.
Bear Grylls tweeted a picture of him and Jake from their Icelandic adventure about an hour ago.

LOLLLLLLL!!!
ReplyDeleteYou know who Jake reminds me of in that picture? LOLLL!!
That kid Randy in The Christmas Story when he's jampacked into his winter coat by his mother and he can't move, arms all stiff out by his side and then he falls over in the snow and can't get up.
LOLLLL.
Looks like a brand new coat that just had the tags cut off before the pic was taken too.
It's probably the absolute top of the line, non-permeable down to like -400 degrees, windproof, waterproof, tearproof, fall-proof.
**snicker**, I knew before I clicked on the picture there was a possibility of a real National Geographic Kodak moment and I was not disappointed.
And of course, no smile - it's a They Call Me Mr. Gyllenhaal!!! pose. Just stop it, Jake.
Love the splashy red though. Very visible out on the snow.
Oh boy! And Soapy stiletto pics this morning. Isn't that lovely.
ReplyDeleteAustin's really punching the time clock in the pics with Soapy, isn't he? Geez, lol.
He looks pretty darn good, can't argue a thing there! Although I think those guys might need to have a microbiologist inspect their home for a malicious outbreak of follicle mold & fungi growth. Their scruff is just out of control.
Well, my time outside on the deck must come to an end. It's my Sunday to usher back at the chapel of my former church and it just takes forever to get these 2 dogs all situated before I leave.
And before I go, I must whine, cry & hurl myself on the floor because while I love early Madonna....
I was so expecting "Good Morning Starshine" by Oliver!!!!!!!!!!! Oh gosh, I love that song. But won't argue early Madonna either.
Ok, gotta run before I end up in a fix.
Jake is wearing his backpack correctly as he is getting ready to head on to the helicopter He is using both shoulder straps and the connecting one across his chest. Austin would be proud.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with PG about Jake's resolute pose. That must be his, "I'm a badass" stance. He looks like a parody of some new action figure. Let's call him, "Intrepid Jake". Unfortunately, he doesn't look too posable or bendy here does he? LOL!
ReplyDeleteLook how relaxed Bear's body language is next to Little Red aka Young Race Bannon or maybe an older Johnny Quest! (That's for you, PG).
Still, I like the way Jake is willing to physically challenge himself. He's definitely "in the zone" and ready to rumble, with a slight note of vulnerable apprehension that is pure Jake. He must have lost a bet with Austin. ;-)
Bet Austin can't wait for the voluntary indenturement to end. Bearding contracts can be a bitch.
ReplyDeleteI think Jake and Bear look great! Love the plane too. When is this program going to be on?
ReplyDeleteNew episodes of Man vs. Wild start in July for the US. Not sure about the UK, does anyone know?
ReplyDeletePG and everyone you have got to check out the hot slut of the day on Dlisted for Sunday. Unbelievable. I could not stop laughing.
ReplyDeleteLOLLLLLL!!!! That little dog. He's hilarious. Lookit that little dance of his. I like how Michael said his owner was probably dangling a piece of chorizo over his head. LOL!
ReplyDeleteThat was funny. He's a cutie, isn't he?
That video is hilarious, Tom. Thanks! Here's the link, everyone:
ReplyDeletedlisted Hot Slut of the Day
10:52, couldn't agree more.
ReplyDeleteMichael K had a post on the passing of Clarence Clemons and he put up the nicest statement made by Bruce Springsteen on his webpage. It's beautiful. Almost 40 years those 2 guys knew each other. That is a heckuva long friendship. I know Clarence Clemons' family is going to miss him first & foremost, but wow, Bruce must be missing him almost as horribly. Here's Bruce's statement on the big guy. It is so touching:
Clarence lived a wonderful life. He carried within him a love of people that made them love him. He created a wondrous and extended family. He loved the saxophone, loved our fans and gave everything he had every night he stepped on stage. His loss is immeasurable and we are honored and thankful to have known him and had the opportunity to stand beside him for nearly forty years. He was my great friend, my partner, and with Clarence at my side, my band and I were able to tell a story far deeper than those simply contained in our music. His life, his memory, and his love will live on in that story and in our band.
LOL Tom, I can't believe that dog isn't a puppet on a string.
ReplyDeleteSaw that statement too PG from Springsteen, it's so beautiful, brought tears to my eyes--then again, just having Blinded by the Light pop up on my ipod while walking this morning made me teary too.
I have a song on my ITunes by Clarence Clemons and I think Jackson Browne called "You're a Friend of Mine". It's a great, very happy song. I love it. It's about having a very good friend.
ReplyDeleteHe must have been a very very good friend. Gone too soon but called home for a reason; may he be welcomed home in the most loving Arms we could ever know.
Well, gotta run. I had to stop by the ol' apartment and made a dish for a funeral tomorrow at another church. It's a broccoli/corn dish and it is a WINNER. Tried & true, no fail, cannot miss. And the best part is it is so easy.
ReplyDeleteGot the chapter up, somebody helped me; now it's up to me to learn this new way and do it allllll by myself next time. WAHHHHH!!!!
lol. Okay, well Maycee & Chloe are awaitin', gotta drop this dish off and yabba dabba doooo, gotta go, gotta go to the land of hardly any internet connection. :(
Good old Sophin, up to the same old tricks, and proving once again that the only time Austin gets coverage on the gossip sites is when he's attached at the hip to Sophia. Still don't see how that's going to help his career. It's so clear that at this point most fans only care about him because of Sophia; took a look yesterday at the OTH forums, and when you look at the Austin threads, pretty dead.
ReplyDeleteFunny how both guys are sporting such full beards. I mean both Austin and Jake and literal use of the term beard. I guess their management told Sophia and Austin they needed to be seen together. Too much talk about their absence.
ReplyDeleteThat D listed clip is indeed cute. And another suggestion is the trailer for the new Muppet movie, available on deadinehollywood, ontd and a few other sites. Now this is not a movie I'll got to any theater to see, but must say it looks adorable.
