Go ? No Go?

Breaking 2: Gyllenboogaloo

Deadline:

EXCLUSIVE: It looked good there for a day but Jake Gyllenhaal’s deal to star in the Albert Hughes-directed Motor City has veered off the road. Talks fell apart, over scheduling, I hear. The actor wanted to push the dates and financier Dark Castle did not. They are putting together lists for another actor to star in the film in the role of an ex-military man who is framed and sees his life and gal taken away by the bad guy. Gary Oldman and Amber Heard are already set in the Chad St. John-scripted film.

BREAKING!:

It's Showtime for Austin.

Zap2it is thrilled to exclusively report that "OTH" star Austin Nichols has landed a role in Showtime's "Ray Donovan" pilot, alongside Liev Schreiber in the title role.

Ray Donovan is a professional "troubleshooter" in LA, called on to dig the city's wealthiest, most elite clientele out of their various messes. Nichols will play Tommy West, an A-list movie star who seeks Ray's help when he finds himself in a tough bind.

Nichols joins a formidable cast full of star names -- including Kate Moennig as Ray's colleague Lena, Jon Voight as Ray's father Mickey, and Elliott Gould as Ray's mentor Ezra.

Post:
Again Jake's name is mentioned for another role, this time for Motor City, the story of ex-Army Ranger named John Miller who is framed for a crime he didn’t commit and tracking down the man going after who framed him and stole his true love, so is it a go or no go?

In the spirit of Berlin the Ampelmann and the Ampelfrau that tells you when to go will be today's tour guides for this Tinseltown talk.

With a production start date of six to eight weeks from now, Jake could be the go-to guy.
Why would WME want him to look like he was picking up sloppy seconds from a lesser known actor that had been hand picked by the director, as the first project they get for him. You would think they would be pulling out all the stops for their first collaboration with their new client.

A "minimalist take on an action movie" is it enticing to Jake's Buddhist approach?

Is it too much of a mash up Fast & The Furious and The Fugitive even with the quirk?

Random thoughts at the crossing:
Could this be the way WME is keeping a buzz on Jake while he chooses to focus more on home than movies?Or could it be part of the plan WME has that will build out over the next few months? Was this another reason Austin came to Berlin?

With every part that comes Jake's way there comes critiques of the choices he's made.

Well here's your chance. Play screenwriter, director, producer, movie mogul for a minute, and come up with the next thing he should do.
What we do know is a go:

Is that Jake will be helping to celebrity a man who held so many, and who understood that being a celebrity is not just about yourself but also helping others.

Jake will join pal Jimmy Fallon, Josh Groban, Paul Simon and Trisha Yearwood others for ‘A Celebration of Paul Newman’s Dream’, which honors the life and work for charity of his late godfather on April 2 at NY's Lincoln Center.

The evening will benefit Paul Newman’s Association of Hole in the Wall Camps, which supports children facing serious illnesses from around the world.

  1. Austin's going to be on Showtime.

Wonder who he will use for reference to play an A-list actor?

  2. So nice to see Jake and Austin working again! and OMG being wrong again.

Jake and Austin aren't in the same city now when they aren't working, and won't be in the same city while working - so much for joke about them being a couple with kids.

  3. Austin doesn't have to be in LA to be named for the part.

Who's to say that Austin and Jake aren't together and celebrating Austin's new job.

  4. These have to be my favorite pics of Jake ever. He wasn't first choice for BBM either, and look how that turned out. I couldn't imagine anyone else as Jack. In many cases it it turns out that way. Congrats to Austin too!

How long do you think they've been celebrating? Ohhhh you think that because it was announced today that Austin only found out today? He's probably known about this since last week, maybe longer. I do love your naïveté though. About this and how you think Jake overwrites what a stylist on a video shoot wants. You're so twee. :-)

And stop trying to be British.

  7. Nobody knows where Jake and Austin are right now. My guess is still NYC.

I didn't expect Jake to give up acting after he signed on with his new agency. I don't think either Jake or Austin will stop acting for a while. It is what they do. I was really excited that Jake and Austin were spending time together but I don't expect them to come out anytime soon:-(

  9. Jake's out of the Motor City

  11. That would be great if Austin got to do a series on Showtime. Not that I get that channel, HBO is the only premium channel I'm willing to fork money over for, so if it gets the green light, I'll just have to catch it when it comes out on DVD.

Strange that Jake's movie would fall apart over scheduling--what else does he have to do? Unless he thinks there is something else he might get that would be filming at the same time. And no, I don't think it has anything to do with kids.

    That's heresy

  13. I'm glad I did not spend a lot of time thinking about Jakes new film since it fell apart in record time. And yes, the deal is one works and the other takes care of the family. They take turns so Austin must have taken priority spot this time.

On another topic Dlisted showed Bomer and his partner arriving at LAX. The blurb was totally open about them being a couple.

  14. Sorry, I meant to say Just jared, not Dlisted. Even better since Jared is PR approved. That means Bomer is out.

  15. WME is continuing the repackaging of Jake, I see. They no doubt wanted to keep his name out there (which was one benefit of leaking the story on Tuesday), but by Jake walking away because of "scheduling" issues the very next day, they just strategically floated two more impressions. First, Jake is in the driver's seat when it comes to his career. And secondly, getting the public to wonder what might be causing these "scheduling" issues? Surely, Jake knew when the movie was going to be filmed. If it conflicted with his schedule he wouldn't have even considered the role. Since he hasn't worked on a movie since EoW late last summer (6.5 months ago), one should be asking what exactly is conflicting with his "busy" schedule? Because it sure isn't work. The only other sensible conclusion is that "personal" reasons are conflicting with his availability to take on another project. I don't think it was a coincidence that Austin's new part was announced yesterday either. As "m" states, these guys have been coordinating their work schedules for years.

Love your choice of pics, Special. Jake is all kinds of ravishing and trance-inducing in them. That BMW was one lucky car. ;-)

  16. I wonder why Jake is not photographed anymore when he is in NYC. If he does a similar daily routine and is in the same places, it’s very easy for paps to find him but he is never papped when other celebs are photographed in NYC every day. There are tons of paps in NYC and even more in the Soho/Tribeca/West Village area. I think most of pap pics are staged/tipped off so, is it because he is not staging pics or because he doesn't sell much?

  17. I did see the pictures of Matt and Simon on JJ M. Despite some naysayers, it's been pretty clear he came out in that thank you speech last month, and he recently gave a tiny blurb to OK! while at the Independent Spirit awards about not having much time to work out because he and SImon spend so much running after the 3 kids. Someone has said that only Matt was flying, apparently overseas to film White Collar, so I'm guessing SImon went into the airport with him knowing that there are often paps at LAX. In contrast, some pap got a video of Matt with the kids going to a movie last week, and that didn't turn up on any of the mainstream sites, so clearly not approved.

  18. You may be right about WME trying to show Jake has the power to negotiate, and getting his name out there, but personally I don't think it has anything to do with their schedules. I really don't get all this about the scheduling, because personally I think if there is a BT, it is Jake raising her(?), and Ted has pretty much confirmed that. Everyone seems to think Jake had the kid(s) with him while filming POP, so why shouldn't it be any different to film in Berlin?

If Austin and Jake want to have careers, I personally don't think either one of them is in a place where they can dictate schedules.

  19. If Austin and Jake want to have careers, I personally don't think either one of them is in a place where they can dictate schedules.

And that is exactly the point people are trying to make here.
If, as you say, Jake is turning these roles down for work reasons, then it makes no sense at all.
Lets say he really has work related scheduling problems: It's not exactly helping his career if he leads TBTP on to think he will star in the movie only to change his mind a mere week after it was communicated to the general public.
Jake has been in the business long enough to know not to do that and even if he didn't, his agency definitely would.

I tend to think that acting isn't his priority at this time in his life, so he doesn't really care whether this helps his career or not.
The actors are generally told before the press releases that they are cast in a role, so it seems likely he knew Austin would be working again at the time of the "in talks" announcement.
IMO, he wanted it out there knowing he would be turning it down at the same time of Austins announcement, because it's a subtle way to tie his "scheduling problems" with Austins schedule.

  21. Personally I think the story was floated to get him press when he never had the role, or maybe he decided he didn't like the movie and didn't want to say that was the reason for turning it down. Maybe the director wanted him but not the producers, or for some other reason they decided not to go with Jake and this was a face-saving preemptory strike. There are many things it could be, but unless he has some other work lined up we don't know about yet, I am not buying scheduling as a reason.

  22. I tend to think that acting isn't his priority at this time in his life, so he doesn't really care whether this helps his career or not.

I totally agree. This Motor City thing was shot down as soon as it went up. Those suits didn't even have time to ask for a second cup of coffee. But it was put out there for a reason, probably the reasons that M&M stated earlier.

I don't think Jake is in a hurry to work. He's got his hands full and I think he likes taking care of his kids. I hit the panic button the other day about the guys' plans but in a matter of 48 hours, things are hopefully clearing up, at least in my eyes. I return to the point of optimism about their plans.

I think right now Jake is content in being a soccer dad. If he had the ego and the desire to be a big A-Lister, he would've been pounding the pavement a long time ago. He wouldn't be hidden like he is and has been since he got back from Berlin.

Wondering brought up an excellent, excellent point up there regarding visibility that no one seems to be either noticing or pointing out.

And maybe it's only noticeable by those who follow twitter closely, I don't know. For all the scoffing that can be made towards Twitter, right now it's providing an extremely useful tool to observe breaks in habits and changes in trends. And there is a definite, LOUD change in these two guys ever since they returned from Berlin. "LOUD" is an ironic word to use because they're actually being anything but loud right now.

    ReplyDelete
  23. He wouldn't be hidden like he is and has been since he got back from Berlin.

Hidden in what way? He's in NYC and has been spotted all over the place since he returned from Berlin and Paris.

  24. Jake's pattern of visibility has changed immensely since mid-September through December of last year. During a three month span, Jake was photographed by fans and paps seemingly everywhere in NY (remember the Organic Avenue Juice shots, buying another pair of green khaki pants, Yom Kippur, w/Ramona on a Saturday, w/Ryan Piers Williams, w/America Ferrera, at SoulCycle, et al.) Moreover, he was seen at all kinds of events, coffee shops, restaurants, diners, et al., including the NYFF, Jake at the Bathhouse, jogging in Prospect and Central Parks, speaking at the LaGuardia High School, Michelle's premiere of Marilyn, Sting's 60th B-day bash, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Jay-z and Kanye West concert, the Sir Maximus Baffo's fashion party, dozens of SoulCycle sightings just from October 15-November 11 (sometimes two on the same day), Chelsea Market, etc. It goes on and on and on. Jake is hardly being seen or tweeted about right now at all, never mind papped or twitpic'd, or written about on Page Six.

    ReplyDelete
  25. You know that's an impressive list of activities and it really does show how Jake was constantly on the move for about 12 weeks at the end of last year. Or, at least, CAA wanted us to think he was on the move.

I also recall tweeters describing where they saw him, metioning the street names or the venue (near the ActorsFest Building), or naming the restaurant he was at or the coffee shop. Him going bowling and who was with him, shopping, or getting his hair cut at that Frank's ChopShop. Comparatively, Jake has been MIA. So yes I would agree Jake's hardly being seen at all now.

  27. Yes, I've seen the photo from March 6th. Looks like it could be Jake. I have no idea whether that's his apartment or not, or where it's located. Interesting we never saw him staying anywhere last year. He would just pop up out of nowhere and then vanish.

And, no one is denying that there have been sightings of Jake in NY, but nowhere near the kind of activity that was established late last year. If nothing has changed in his life the pattern should be the same, but it isn't. Not by a long shot.

  28. If nothing has changed in his life the pattern should be the same, but it isn't.

Having an apartment in the city might change that pattern don't you think?

    ReplyDelete
  29. I don't know, its life doesn't seem very changed to me, restaurants, subway, soulcycle, tribeca, Canal st, Soho, Nolyta, always the same. But who really knows?

  30. Who the fuck takes pictures of people in their homes through windows, famous or not? And then goes and posts them online?

And where is everybody's favorite troll dishing out reprimands? If having your picture taken while walking through an airport during a film festival is a breach of privacy of the highest order, then what is this?

    ReplyDelete
  31. I would say two variables have changed immensely from last year:

    1) Frequency of sightings - Not unusual for Jake to be tweeted 4-5 times in one day.
    2) Photos/Twitpics/Tabloid Coverage

Alot more generic tweets like this one:

  32. Jake had to have some place to stay last year too. Many folks said he was living in Tribeca. So no that is not a change from last year. He had a place to stay yet was seen everywhere as M&M puts it. Jake's public presence/visibility has been pulled way back since he returned from Europe. No doubt in my mind.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Having an apartment in the city might change that pattern don't you think?

You truly are kidding me, right. Of course, Jake had a place to stay last year. What do you think he did sleep on the subway or some dark alley. If that's your explanation for why he isn't been seen more often you need to try much harder.

  34. Everything is possible, however I think that people in NY, have gotten used to see him hanging around , as for soul c, to the beginning there were tons of tweets, then people have gotten used to him and the tweets almost stopped.

  35. I just finish reading a very interesting article in the NY Times. It's talks about the state of Leading Men in Hollywood and according to the article the state isn't all that great. The main focus of the article is about Channing Tatum and how Hollywood seems to think he's the new Golden Boy who may finally break the less then stellar record of wannabees who hasn't been all that successful at reaching the brass ring.

There was one statement that stood out for me. Quote:

"In the last decade or so a cavalcade of men reached for the stratosphere and stalled: Orlando Bloom, Eric Bana, Edward Norton, Jake Gyllenhaal, Josh Hartnett, Ryan Phillippe, Stephen Dorff, Garrett Hedlund, Tobey Maguire."

Basically the article was saying that those actors - while talented - doesn't seem to know how to bring in the audience. In order words they rarely make films that are huge blockbusters. And the reality is that's true about Jake. Now I think Jake can easily act circles around Channing with his eyes closed and his arms tied behind his back. But the thing I do find interesting about the article is that Channing Tatum seems more then happy to play the game of Hollywood in order to be successful, something that Jake once did, but now seems uninterested in doing. Tatum - who is the same age as Jake - is a lesser actor in terms of talent but he's more talked about in the press, the media and so forth. It's true what they say about Hollywood. It's not what you did for us yesterday, and not what you're doing today, it's what you are going to give us tomorrow. Currently that tomorrow seems to be a struggle for Jake.

I would vote a big, "No," on that explanation as well. Jake started being seen nonstop in NY in mid-September last year and yet all the way through December we continued to get the same kind of tweets. People were used to seeing him hanging around then too, but the tweets kept a-comin'. Even in January, when he supposedly returned the last two weeks to NY this year, there were a lot of the same kinds of tweets being posted. Lots of them. Jake then goes away to Europe, returns the third week in February and the tweet and photographic pattern changes. So I'm supposed to believe that suddenly New Yorkers realized that they have seen enough of Jake so their not interested in taking pics and tweeting about him anymore. Nope don't buy it.
