  1. Jake is doing alright career wise. He could have a long working career. He is not gonna ruin that by comimg out. More of the se to come. I am sure he has accepted that. Just reality in HW. Jake was brash when he was young and he got into Brokeback. That is over.

  2. CBS has the best morning news. Just had some country music stars that said. they listen to there fans and will give the fans whatever music they want to hear. I am sure Talyor fans feels the same way. Also Oscar winner Jeremy Irons said hebhas gotten into TV because tue good writing is not in independent films right now. Wonder if Jake will try TV. TV sure would take some of the pressure off

  4. That's the point. Jake is adequate. Of course, he'll work because of his contacts and compromises. He's one of the boys, if you will. One of the boys who plays the game. One can be a working actor and a coward at the same time. I agree with the person in the other thread that said Jake's Critic's nomination was odd. End of Watch wasn't even nominated for Best Action Film, yet there was Jake listed in the supporting actor category. Also, how was his role supporting? Same goes for Pena's nomination at Independent Spirit Awards. They were both lead actors in that film. Co-stars. Yet, somehow they magically became Supporting Actors for the purposes of awards seasons. Reminds me of Jake's backdoor nomination for Brokeback Mountain. Jake had almost as many speaking lines as Heath. Yet, to make sure he received an AA nomination too, he magically ends up in the Supporting Actor category. Amazing what money can pay for.

  6. Switching from lead to supporting and also supporting to lead categories happen all the time for award reasons. Nothing unusual or magic about that.

  7. Just read that Jada Pinkett was asked if she and Will Smith had an open marriage and she basically said Will is his own man and as long as he can look at himself in the mirror he can do what he wants.

  8. Oh my, interesting about Jada's response.

That's great that Jake got a nomination for his stage work, I really thought he was good in the play, and disappeared into the role in a way he rarely does in movies.

  12. So sad to hear about Roger Ebert passing. Obama was quoted as saying Roger was movies and I feel the same way. I started out a huge movie fan, way before Jake was in the picture. I watched Siskel and Ebert every time they were on. Great chemistry and reliable, interesting reviews.

Good for Jake for the nomination. He was the best part of a mediocre play. Without his enthusiastic participation, it may have folded quickly. As for other nominations, politics plays a role in every industry. And with all the money in the Film industry, it has to be magnified to the hilt. Look at Maggie's nom for the Batman role. She was ok but hardly great.

But that wasn't the film for which the Oscar nom represented. One movie has nothing to do with the other.

Nominations shouldn't be bought. They shouldn't be lobbied for. They shouldn't be pay backs for favors. They shouldn't be given for a past performance. Just because it is done, doesn't make it right nor does it make it "okay" to do and acceptable. Who wants an honor or a win that you don't really deserve? That the committee really didn't vote you for?

If there are only four nominations for the other categories, it does stand out that there is five for another. You do have to ask why.

I am a firm believer that some actors get rewarded for playing the game, for bowing to the Old Guard and ensuring that the Closet remains alive and well. It certainly taints the entire process for me, I know that. I'll never understand why Crash won. That was a travesty, although long done and no use moaning about it now.
