Matthew and Sandra won for  Hollywood Best Actor/Actress respectively, with Julia getting the Hollywood Supporting Actress Award, which signals the direction where she focusing for award season.

Think of these as an award scrimmage,  you have to get some of those as wins before the early rounds of awards and then to the championship rounds.

  1. But I don't get how you can be handing out the awards when not all the films have been seen/released yet? Aren't there still some movies to come out or is this it for the season? It sure seems like one of those really early pre-season NFL games, know what I mean?

  2. I find it also interesting that on Just Jared last night, there were only a few posts on celebrities at these Film Awards and in the midst of these, JJ did not do a post on Jake on the carpet or on stage like there are pictures out there available of. They did a post on his GQ Australia cover which has been out now for several weeks, worn out from Twitter feeds.

That stuck out like a sore thumb to me.

  3. It's ridiculous to have awards so early in the season. Yes, most of the films that would be up for real awards haven't been released yet, although the critics may have seen some of them.

They're probably jumping the gun because otherwise they wouldn't get any attention.

  4. I don't wanna be Mr. Negative but I see no buzz that Jake is going to get nominated for an Oscar. Very quiet buzz for Hugh.

  5. Just saw one critic put Jake at the 5th choice for Best Supporting Actor. Never know.

  6. I agree Tom, I just don't think it's the kind of movie and roles that are going to get Oscar buzz. Too many other films and actors being talked about.

  7. There was a lot of awards buzz right after Prisoners hit Toronto, but it died off as other films came along over the next 10 days. Some years are stronger than others and they always hold releasing award contenders to as late as possible in the year so they are fresh in people's minds at nomination time.

Not sure why Jake felt he needed to be so skinny for the movie he is filming now. He really looks awful. Those big eyes that are so beautiful look sunken and psychotic in some of the photos. It would work well if he was playing a serial killer.

This award sounds like one of those bought and paid for - a publicity event.

Yup. And on the subject of bought & paid for, I'm also convinced that Austin's number of Twitter followers is greatly inflated.

You wouldn't know it by looking at Twitter and Facebook. I'm not kidding you guys, if you were to look at a Search under Jake's name on either forum, you would continue to see an endless amount of comments pushing Prisoners for an Oscar, the two lead actors for Oscars w/o question, Prisoners is just the best movie of the year, it's one of the best ever.

Not only that, but Jake's hair is dreamy and to die for (guys want their hair styled that way now), his tats and tic are sexier than hell to the point where people can't stop thinking about them, Jake should always play a cop, he never should have done Brokeback, what was he thinking, now he's doing crowd-pleasing roles, and an insurmountable amount of people have suddenly "rediscovered" and "renewed" their obsession with him all because of Prisoners and EOW.

Jake has suddenly redeemed himself and forget all about his past roles, only EOW and Prisoners stand for what he is all about now.

lol. I'm not kidding. This stuff has been going on since Prisoners was released. You can take a look any day of the week and you'll go blurry eyed from the pomp and circumstance.

Jake Gyllenhaal accepted his supporting actor award @ #hollywoodawards & said "I wanted to do [Prisoners] because it's so balls to the wall"

That's the quote frequently tweeted last night as the big line Jake gave in his acceptance speech.

That doesn't even make sense. But it's raw and it's "tough", I guess to talk about balls.

This is his new image. He's a guy's guy now and I mean that strictly in the hetero sense.

  12. Holy moly!! Mr. Nichols!

    Shirtless Austin.

  13. "Balls to the Wall"

A physically impossible feat unless the male were to lie on the floor and push his butt up against the wall with his legs up in the air.

However....this is not what Jake was referring to.

"Balls to the wall" is a military term. Urban dictionary says the phrase is to: term used by pilots. when accelerating quickly, the throttle is pushed all the way to the panel and the throttle lever (ball) actually touches the panel (wall). Hence, balls to the wall.

And the phrase means to "push to the limit, go all out, full speed".

So who's going to know this?

Men. Military. Pilots. That's about the only audience who's going to know what it means.

And that's the audience that phrase was intended for and since Jake has known for months that he was getting this award, his people had all this time to develop his acceptance speech.

Someone probably looked up that phrase and they wrote it for him to use. All part of his new image.
