Full Disclosure

Yes, it's true. Jake did have a Red Sox hat on at Fenway, and has now gone and done it one better. Wearing it in NY. To those not with familiar baseball, or to the one of the greatest sports rivalries (Red Sox/Yankees) in the U.S., this was either incredibly stupid or one of the bravest moves ever. Sox hat in LA? Piece of cake, it's an accessory.Wearing in the heart of the NY, home to the Evil Empire aka The Yankees (my apologies to the Mets fans out there),that's not an accessory, that's a statement.

Then again Jake has been one whose actions speak louder than words.

Baseball? Give me a break. Well, for you I give you this. How can you not like baseball now?

And because you can never have enough of the tall Texan.

  1. J. is the cutest little baseball player ever.

Thanks for the pic, Special :) Isn't that Golden-Globes-with- Austy, in-car-with-Jake girl?

  4. Jake was adorable as a little boy. And he's also looking pretty adorable in that Red Sox baseball cap. He has a vulnerable look in that photo that gets to me every time.

Austin, on the other hand, is looking pretty hot- literally. Wonder if he had to remove his shirt again. ;)

  5. Not only is Jake wearing a Red Sox hat in NYC, he's wearing a Red Sox hat in NYC perilously close to World Series time! Couldn't he smell October just around the corner? Ok, I don't know if that has any bearing on anything, I'm just trying to whip up more frenzy. ;)

That young Jake baseball picture is so cute - nice uniforms! And a nice rebellious move not wearing his hat, hehe. He's looking like he's ready to just get that portrait over with and get some ice cream already.

  6. Sorry, Spesh, I still hate baseball. I have three requirements to watch a sport that is not swimming- it must be 1)violent 2)fast-paced and 3)high scoring. Baseball fails on all three counts! Cute pic of little Jakey, though. :)

  7. Scylla, no I really don't think this is the same girl.

  8. Hey former college sports editor, my love for sports covers almost all of them, although curling really hasn't sparked it for me. Maybe it is because I can't get into a sport that involves using a broom.

Until you go to Fenway I don't know if you have experienced baseball. Sold out every single game, packed and crazed fans. You do get your violence, off the field and sometimes on(esp in a Sox/Yankees series)and there are occasionally high scoring games. And where else can you see 36,000 + fans (many not really that sober) belting "Sweet Caroline" at the top of their lungs in the bottom of the 8th.

"hands touching hands, reaching out, touching me, touching you...."

Oh yeah Mr. Gyllenhaal you sang along.

    LOL, true. ;)

Although I did spend many years living in Boston so I do know about the Green Monster. :)

  10. Wicked, I have to say I hate baseball too. Just find it really boring. Love basketball, though. I think I will go down to LA to see the Lakers this coming season. Maybe I'll see someone else in the audience too :-)

Don't you just adore the fact that you can bank on it? If only everything in the world was that certain. Ah, Neil Diamond, he makes more sense with every passing decade. It was something of a revelation when I realised that he's a bit "out there" and that I love it.

I'm a bit hyper today. I just got in touch with a childhood friend after 23 years apart via Facebook!

Facebook - worth the effort for older folks! :)

  12. I just found this comment on You Tube:

I never would have thought back in the 70's that this song would become the theme song of the Boston Red Sox.
My favorite artist and favorite team joined forever now.
Sox need to get hime to play a concert at Fenway!

    Hehe.

  13. If you need the experience of Sweet Caroline here you go.

Sweet Caroline Red Sox vs Tampa Bay

And yes, sold out! Against Tampa Bay!

    I will stop. (for now)

  14. Yep, wearing a Sox cap in NY is definitely a statement, and a brave one! He looks great in it, I just knew he had to be a Red Sox fan. He's adorable at 10 in the Little League uniform too. Thanks, Spesh. Sweet Caroline, bah, bah, bah . . . good times never seemed so good . . . lol :)

  15. The traditions of American Baseball are a mystery to me. I'm having difficulty understanding the difference between a strike and a ball. Also not a lot happens for a long time and then bang it all goes off. Actually I can sort of relate to that having watched Cricket for years. A sport that meets two of Wicked's criteria (violent and high-scoring).

I think Jake would look pretty refined in cricket whites.

  16. Oh wow, Special K you outdo yourself post by post. How did you get hold of that baseball picture of Jake? Ah, things you have to do for your fans :) :) which means us!
I agree, Jake should try on some cricket whites, Trilobyte. Enough of baseball now ;)
And you know what, that Gawker article was a very interesting read for me. Somehow I feel it was written in jest, in some weird self-deprecating way. It was not meant to be mean at all. Anyway that is my take.
I am very curious about what you all think about Jake's comment that the President of a nation should be like a father. I found it to be pretty naive - but that is how all politicians should be, IMO. Tough but kind and caring. Am I being naive too?

  17. Firstly, how does Sweet Caroline become a baseball theme song?

Rattler, it's interesting questions you are asking. I'm really thinking about this at the moment because we've got our elections coming up in Aussieland.

Laws are written to ensure law and order but they also should protect people.
There are a lot of people who need protecting in our communities.
Children are the primary ones because they are considered not mature enough to act in their own best interest

People are taking the father comment to mean like 'big brother'. We'll watch over you, but to some degree they have to. It's a very grey area and can be abused by a bad government but some watchdog has to be in place in various faculties.

We had the situation recently where a doctor here in Australia was a cousin of one of the guys arrested in London for the bombs that didn't go off. The belief of our government was that he may have known the attacks were going to occur and didn't do anything to stop it. Our government arrested him, held him and then extradited him. It was a real case of he said, they said.
They arrested him on his way out of Australia when he'd taken emergency leave but at the same time, his wife had just given birth and he was supposed to be going home to see her.
He had an answer for every question and it was a real 50/50 situation for the public because every piece of 'evidence' fit both scenarios. That of an innocent man and that of a guilty one. Add in the fact that we weren't told everything by the government because it was sensitive info.

It became a real debate. Do we basically take away the right of innocent until proven guilty and risk the wrath of a small portion of the community 'just in case'?

In so many other situations, it's pretty clear cut but terrorism and the fear of it has brought all this to a new level.

  18. Mickey Rourke and Winona Ryder have joined the cast of 'The Informers'.

Mickey Rourke will play the kidnapper.
Winona Ryder will play a newcaster. Kim Basinger is supposed to be a reporter in it so they'll probably work together.

Would love to know what Austin is playing.
    Great cast all round.

  19. AG, you will love Michael Ignatieff's book! I will try to key in some quotes for you. Rendition has had a deep impact on me, and I am not resting in peace till some questions are sorted out in my mind. I look forward to discussing with you all, once the film has been released.
    It's all Jake's fault ;)

  20. rattler, that was my take on the gawker piece as well.

ag, no kidding about the new cast members! Does this mean Austy will be the rock star? :)

    ReplyDelete
  21. Well Austy has been working the Morrissey hair even since JFC wrapped.

  22. True! I'd love to see the short curls back one day, though. I liked him blond, too :)

  23. Special K, has Austin become very attached to his Red Sox cap:

"Another People Magazine sighting in LA.

"Fresh off The Sopranos big Emmy win, Jamie Lynn Sigler mingled with friends at the Windows Lounge in the Four Seasons Beverly Hills. Around the corner, in the lobby, a dressed-down Jake Gyllenhaal, wearing a Red Sox cap and sweatshirt, showed up, engrossed in conversation with a male friend. ""

  24. ^That should read Jake, not Austin.

Just that Austin is lingering in my mind since the shirtless picture ;-)

  25. Looks like Jake is LA? Then again, they said he was in LA on Sunday. So keep a hand on the salt shaker until we see a picture of him back in LA.

From People's Caught in the Act:
