Gooberballs - Jake at Letterman 10-15

Jake was far from awkward, his favorite word from the last time, this visit and brought a new word to share. Gooberballs.

To find out the origin of Gooberballs, check out Jake's visit with Dave.

Thanks IHJ!

On the way out something strange happened it appears that Jake is shrinking. Are his legs getting shorter or did he just grab the wrong pair of black jeans? Perhaps a pair with a longer inseam than he normally wears? Oh they look all the same when you are throwing stuff in the bag.

UPDATE: Today Show

First things First - Congratulations Destiny! on meeting Jake outside the Today Show.

"Just got back from standing outside the Today Show. Before the interview he came outside and walked around and I actually got to shake his hand! My gf is already teasing me that I'll never wash it again."...see more from Destiny in the comments.

  3. I´d like to request a song. "Only when I lose myself" by depeche mode.

I love OMG and I think it is a very SPECIAL place :)

  4. All his casual trousers (jeans, khakis) are way too long for him.

  5. On the previous thread Zero asked about the term "young buck":
"Is 'young buck' a very commonly used expression, I have not heard it from anybody in the 15 yrs I lived in the US, but I am not sure."

To me, "young buck" is something that Austin's grandfather (or even great grandfather) is more likely to use than someone his age. It's not commonly used at all any more. It's also a term that is more regional than national in the US. Someone who grew up in LA, NYC and MV would be much less likely to use that term than someone from Texas. Certain regions of the country have a much folksier and colorful way of describing things than others and Texas is one of those regions. :)

There's a rapper called Young Buck who is a contemporary of Austin's, but Austin's use of the term is about as edgy as his love of wearing suspenders.

  6. One more Ted TT letter:

    Dear Ted:
Your techniques may be a bit more sophisticated than those of Perez Hilton, but given that Toothy Tile's identity is pretty solidly known, courtesy of you, what makes you any different or better than a bottom-feeder like Perez and his penchant for outing gay celebrities?
    Meg Chicago

    Dear Columbia School of Journalism:
Hey, pissy prof, dunno about Perez, but I feed on some very beautiful bottoms here in Hollywood, you jealous or somethin'? And you're just an idiot if you don't think Tooth-love's outing himself, only so very slowly.

  7. the Columbia bit is a dead giveaway now :)

  8. Watched Today Show. Gotta love Jake saying he is a Sox fan on national TV. And blaming Al Roker, who threw out the first pitch last night, for the Sox losing. : )

    Go Sox!

  9. ^ What a very interesting Teddism. :) And I think he's right about what's happenin'. So a picture would be just dandy, now.

Wanted to nip in here to say that it wasn't me who called Jake Gooberballs, though the opportunity would have been nice!

I want him to say "keister" next. :)

  10. Just got back from standing outside the Today Show. Before the interview he came outside and walked around and I actually got to shake his hand! My gf is already teasing me that I'll never wash it again. The beard looked a lot better on him in person than it does in pictures. Now if I'd only thought to buy a throwaway camera; I just don't think about cameras because I haven't owned one in awhile and my cellphone is a model from the stone age. I was glad they actually spent some time talking about the movie.

and hehehe... i thought i was the only person on this planet who doesn't have a camera mobile phone.

  13. DM, OMG is also a very WICKED place! ;) We will get your song on.

Destiny, probably best that you saw him and not me. I think I would have just looked at him and said, "For the love god, will you shave that thing already?!" And then I would have to live with the fact that I said that to Jake Gyllenhaal and that would not be good. This is why I really hope I never meet anyone famous.

  14. Hey Spesh and Wicked,

    And wow Destiny, congrats!

Loved him on Letterman, wasn't able to watch the Today Show, but knowing he proclaimed he's a Sox fan on National TV makes my day! ;)

  16. LOL WIcked. I was too shy to say anything, or more accurately, I don't remember saying anything.

  17. Destiny -- I would either say nothing, blush furiously, or babble nonsensically -- probably I would do all of them at once.

  19. My Mrs. is threatening to start a support group blog for friends and spouses of J&A fans called Tooth-Anon! Destiny, do you think your GF would be interested?

  20. Regis does ask about the Hottest Bachelor in America's social life.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Destiny, that is awesome! :)

Thanks for all the info/links/videos, Special!

Jake's casual clothes looked a bit big but he is looking amazing in all those beautiful suits. His stylists have done an excellent job. And I am loving the interviews. Jake is charming, articulate and funny.

  22. Before the interview he came outside and walked around and I actually got to shake his hand!

You lucky, lucky girl! Great for you! :D

My gf is already teasing me that I'll never wash it again.

Suggestion for the sake of posterity: Dip hand in paint, print hand on sheet of paper, frame said sheet and accompany with a small plaque reading "The Hand That Touched Jacob Benjamin Gyllenhaal - October 2007"

The beard looked a lot better on him in person than it does in pictures.

The big thump I just heard was caused by the crumbling of the anti-beardy brigade membership. ;)

  23. Destiny, I am so jealous.

Wicked, I am sure my lady would love to join the support group.

I just viewed all of the shows Jake was on, he did great. I especially like the way he handled the social life questions from Regis. I thought Meridith on the Today show really blew it with her comment about BBM, she realized it and tried to apoligize, but Jake did not appreciate what she said.
    He is amazing.

  24. I just watched the Regis & Kelly show and the little grin Jake has when Regis asks him if he's dating someone is totally his Austin grin. He doesn't answer the question, but that little smile tells you everything you need to know.

And when Regis asks him if he has time for a girlfriend at the moment you can just see Jake thinking: "No, right now I don't have time for one, I'm too busy with my boyfriend"

  25. The big thump I just heard was caused by the crumbling of the anti-beardy brigade membership. ;)

I assure you, Frenchy, the anti-beardy-beard brigade will always have one member and I am not afraid to soldier on alone! :)

  26. Yay, Destiny! That's amazing! :)))) It took me about a week to jump off the high Jake put me on from just seeing him a couple of feet away, I can't imagine what I'd be like having his attention for a few moments and shaking his hand!

Thank you special for taking the time to link all the program downloads here, it's wonderful. (and thank you to IHJ!)

  27. I had forgotten how much more I enjoy Jake's daytime interviews over the late night ones. They often end up more relaxed and thoughtful. Rendition was afforded a lot of time on each show, as it should be, and that gave Jake an opportunity to say much more than just a soundbite's worth. Jake very often goes beyond just lip service with his films and I love seeing it expressed.

Meredith's unfortunate choice of words aside (and I honestly think she meant no harm, she caught herself immediately. She's always been pretty off-the-cuff and, well, a little immature), I thought these were great interviews. Jake looked gorgeous. I preferred this look to Letterman; very fresh and relaxed.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Jake seems so much happier this round of interviews. I loved his grin when he said his social life is good. And yes he did have his Austy grin when after Regis asked him who he was he was dating.

He was doing some hemming and hawing when asked what he did last night after taping Letterman. Could it be someone arrived in NYC while he was in London?

  29. I assure you, Frenchy, the anti-beardy-beard brigade will always have one member and I am not afraid to soldier on alone! :)

Wicked, you can count on me, ALWAYS!
Jake was fantastic on both shows today, he is very funny and I loved the whole thing about being the hottest bachelor and all that. There is noone who can deflect question as well as he does. Nice job Jake! And I agree he looks fantastic in all those suites he wears.

Destiny I am green with envy! Seriously, great for you.

And thank you blue velvet for the explanation about young buck, I thought what you say, but I couldn't be sure 100%. Now I totally know where that expression comes from.

  30. Good point, Anon 3:07! Is there a name we can call you?

Zero, I appreciate the support! :)

  31. Congrats, Destiny! That is so cool:) That would never be me, because i would have been to shy to ever try shake his hand. Glad you did:)Wicked&Special, you do an amazing job here *hug*.

  32. How exciting for you, Destiny! Congrats!

I just noticed that Connie Britton of Friday Night Lights was also on Letterman last night. Too bad it wasn't Austin. ;)

  33. check out WDW for a transcript of Jake's interview on UK's Heart radio (Jamie and Harriet)... he ducked another "are you with Reese" question :)

it's quite funny though and he flirts a bit with the DJ Harriet... the other DJ, Jamie Theakton, he's actually considered as very good looking here in UK (well, i don't think so... but...)

  34. Great promo for Jake on Ellen, check the link in the post.

Ellen proposing? Wait I don't think Portia or Austin will go for that.

    : )

  35. Wicked, I think my gf would be happy to join such a group. I don't tend to bend her ear too much about this stuff, but she does think I am crazy.

I didn't hear a lot of the Today Show interview, not always easy to hear from outside even with the speakers they have set up, and Jake had his back to the window. It does bother me that they're still asking him this stuff, although I think some of it is because they think a lot of people won't know who he is otherwise. Most of the people there for the Today Show were tourists who were saying things like "isn't that Jake what's his name, you know from that movie, mountain something". No fangurls that I saw (except me). I think the lack of fangurls competeing for his attention and my leaning over the barrier increased my chances of getting to shake his hand, plus sheer luck that he walked along that portion of the barrier.

  36. WDW published some really really good comments Jonathan Ross has made about Rendition. I so look forward to seeing this movie!

  37. I must share this text message from Tom with you all-

Re Destiny- "I can't believe I will soon be touching the hand that touched Jake's. She better not wash it. As a matter of fact, tell her to put a glove on it until Sat." So you are on notice, Destiny. You are not to wash, you have to cover your hand, and you have to let Tom touch it.

  38. I can't wait to see Jake actually cooking. It'll be a little dream come true. :D

  39. Vote for your favorite hirsute hottie!

You all know how I voted! :) Zero, I need you to vote and help me skew this poll!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I voted but I fear Aubry will win. Though I have to say, WTH, it is totally unfair to compare scruffy Aubry with grizzly Jake...
Hopefully after brother Jake gets out of jail he might decide to shave, you know? Better be in the script!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Sorry Tom, I've already washed my hand. Besides, I don't think I would've been able to wear a glove at work without calling attention to myself. :-) I wish you guys could've all been there with me, I feel like it should've been a group experience.

No, you see, that's WHY he grows the beard. If I remember correctly, prisoners are not allowed to grow beards while incarcerated.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Liz, oh no! OK then better be that 10min into the movie when sparks start flying between him and brother wife he cuts the beard. How is this?

Have no idea about the original movie and I think I am in the process of transforming it into some cheesy romantic comedy. That must tell you how much I hate the beard :-/

  44. Have no idea about the original movie ...

The original movie is described as a family drama.
