Book 'em

Could Austin be cast in another Milch project?

David Milch returns to his "NYPD Blue" roots for HBO. "Last of the Ninth," set in the New York Police Department in 1970's is a gritty raw drama, Milch going back to one of his favorite genres.

" 'It is about an older detective's mentoring of a young detective returned from Vietnam in a department fiscally crippled, under attack by revolutionaries, and which has been brought by allegations of systemic corruption into public disrepute,' Milch said."

Milch completed writing on the pilot script prior to the writer's strike with former NYPD homicide detective Bill Clark, who worked with Milch on NYPD Blue and John From Cincinnati. The plan is that the pilot will be shot now that the writer's strike has been settled.

Austin as the young eager detective a foil to the grizzled and jaded older detective entrenched in the system? A young detective struggling with the aftermath of serving in Vietnam ?

  5. One of my favorite Stones songs! This and Sympathy for the Devil.

I admit I'm curious about this new Milch project, although I'm not a super fan of police dramas. I never even saw NYPD Blue. Of course, if Austin is in it, I WILL be watching. :)

  6. whatever happened to friday night lights? i never got to see it during its regular season run but heard it ended with a cliffhanger and noone knows if its a season finale cliffhanger or if it was the end of the series totally. and how many eps was austin in? was his character left open or did it conclude?

  7. btw is it me or did i just notice Austin is in series with 3 letters?! FNL, JFC, L&O. any else?

Yay! This is the best news I've had all week. Sorry I couldn't check in much yesterday, I was busy at work. There's no telling what I'm in for today either, Gimme Shelter! :) Thankfully it's my last day of the week! Can't wait to see Austi in a new series, and this one sounds good. This is one of my favorite Stones' songs too.

  9. Gimme Shelter is great ...

I read at E! Online that FNL had been axed and there'd be a long episode made to tie up the loose ends (sounds familiar). Lots of angry fans.

I would love Austin to be Milch's young detective! I'm betting it won't happen so soon after John, though. Apart from NYPD Blue, wasn't Milch behind Murder One, back in the day, when it was the best thing on tv?

I also vote for deletion of troll-toned posts whether named or anon.

about austin, he wasn't in L&O as far as I know :) I saw a very young Peter Sarsgaard in one recently, though.

  10. Stop Wait Let's not assume anything!

Austin may not be in the series. This is just speculation that he could work with Milch again.

I think they had great working relationship and working with Milch really brought out some of the best acting seen from Austin.

I can see him doing well as a young detective coming into another combat zone (NYPD) while dealing with the scars from another (Vietnam).

Knowing Milch there will be a moralist struggle for many of the characters as well for some triumphs and tragedies of drugs.

  11. About deleting. I am with Wicked on this one. I want to delete the minimum necessary. Why? Because it becomes a very slippery slope. Censorship can quickly get out of hand.

Anon posts yes will be deleted, as well as attacking, abusive, or name calling, vicious trolling posts. These are things that will not be tolerated.

  12. Special, I also didn't mention what a cute post that was yesterday!

As far as troll posts, I think we should delete them, both named and Anon. Excise the offending posts immediately, a babble-ectomy if you will, and be ruthless . . . *evil laugh* ;)

As far as discussing Reese, it's bound to come up for discussion, I suppose, but maybe we can keep it to a minium.? It doesn't bother me that much.

  13. >My opinion - delete only troll posts, Anon and named

I totally agree. Actually I'm quite comfortable with the mention of other actors on this blog (coworkers of Jake and Austin) and any subject of general interest. (Thanks to respectful manners and polite attitude).

    ReplyDelete
  14. I've been keeping my eye on any news about "Last of the Ninth". The young detective seems like the perfect role for Austin. The part of the older detective mentoring the younger detective sounds a bit like the Austin/Milch dynamic. I would love to see it happen.

I'm a major Stones fan and Gimme Shelter is one of my all-time favorites. (Also love Sympathy for the Devil like Wicked).

I have no interest in Reese even though she's very much tied into Jake's life right now. I tend to skip any posts that are just about her. I feel as though most of them are written by trolls in an attempt to bait us or to make us look bad. I'd love to see them deleted, but I know it's very hard to draw the line when it comes to censorship.

    Thirded!

I have zero interest in Reese-only post neither. this is not a venue to advocate or combat her PR machine...

I want Austin to be in a TV show that I can finally watch and follow regularly over here - and one that doesn't get axed! Young detective sounds good. I've always enjoyed NYDP Blues.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Gimme Shelter is my absolute favorite Stones song, and one of my favorite rock songs ever.

I think Austin would be great as a cop, but I doubt he'd get the main part in this, not only because of just having a lead in JFC, but because I've read suggestions that the young detective is really probably a young Sipowitz, so I have a hard time picturing Austin in that role. But one can dream.

I'd heard things were up in the air as to whether FNL would be back. It wouldn't suprise me if they do cancel it, I seem to fall for shows that don't make it.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Just caught up on the other thread. I agree that we shouldn't censor the topics people talk about, only those by anons and trolls if they're being mean and nasty and disruptive, such as calling other posters names. My feeling is that people are free to skip over conversations that bore them or raise a new topic for discussion.

Can't wait to see the spin on why Reese was at the premiere alone.

    ReplyDelete
  18. >Can't wait to see the spin on why Reese was at the premiere alone.

Jake has a lot better things to do and after the whole Rendition promo it is less probable for these two to promote something together. I hope the Oscars is the last event for them to be seen together (and only because one could expect that both attend the event).

    ReplyDelete
  19. Austin as a cop! That would be great. Would love to see him frisk a suspect. HBO gave him a 2 yr option, but somehow I don't think they would pick him for a new Milch role so soon after JFC. At least he is getting paid in the meantime. I would love to see him do TV so we can see him every week. Movies are too few and far between.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Why would any one expect Jake to show up with her at the Penelope premeiere? He didn't go with her to the Bafta/LA awards in Nov. when she presented an award to Kate Winslet and this was after Rome.

Neither has been announced to be presenters at the AA's this Sunday and even though both are members, there is no reason why they would bother.

They are supposed to be at an evenet before the Oscars on Saturday, but that is not a red carpet event and the press is banned, it's a charity event.

And really, how would it look after they "ran" from the paps last week to show up all smiling and then have Jake listen to the paps yelling at him about Heath.

It's obvious that he has no intention of talking about Heath, and a red carpet event would be something he would avaid for a long while.

    ReplyDelete
  21. "Can't wait to see the spin on why Reese was at the premiere alone."

Don't you know that Jake and Reese are a very private couple who would never use their relationship for PR purposes? That proves that they are a real couple and not a showmance.

That's also why Reese hides her face in photos. She doesn't want the paps to make any money from them. Still haven't heard the spin on why she doesn't do this when the children are in the photos. You'd think she wouldn't want them to publish or make money from those photos.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I've said this before and I'll say it again- I want to see Austin play a vampire!

    ReplyDelete
  23. ? at 10:32 and the spin is in at 10:34 are both trolls, probably the same person.

Ha! now the reekers want us to believe that Jake is not going out with the boring and dull reese just to avoid questions about Heath. What a stupid reason. Nonsense. What's next? Jake is going to retire just to avoid public appearances, hence questions. Doh!!!!!!

The showmance is getting to an end. Just open your eyes and see.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Jake is not going out with the boring and dull reese just to avoid questions about Heath.

Eventually he will have to face them.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Hey Erin! Name one public event that they appeared at together as a couple, since the Rome pics came out????? Crickets.

She attended an event in November w/o him after Rome. You can't count the TIFF/LA and Rome PR stuff because that was before the flood of pics and they were doing there Brangelina act: showing up seperately, posing with hands ion pockets, etc.

They appeared togehter in public after Heath's death there are pics, the most recent are the ones from last week where they are running from the paps.

When he was papped leaving the doctor's last Friday, they were shouting at him regarding Heath.

If you are basing it coming to an end based on her showing up solo, than that's beyond silly. They are still playing cat and mouse and not commenting.

Yes he will have to IMO say something about Heath, but the premiere of some kid's movie or some red carpet event ain't it.

Jake doesn't do that stuff anymore if he doesn't have to.

Oh that one has me salivating... I would love Austin to play in a series like that. I think I'll cross my fingers and lighting candles starting this very evening!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I definitely think it's possible that Austin will get cast in this new Milch series. There's no doubt that Austin and Milch hit it off. I was also wondering if Austin had meetings about the show when he was in NYC, Special. It would explain why he was there.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'd love to see Austin do more Milch stuff - they go great together.

However, as usual, my errand here is an Austin PSA and this time it's a particularly sweet one (at least in my opinion):

If you go to Austin Media, you'll find my scan of a photo of Austin in the Italian edition of Vanity Fair. And man does he look good. There's nail polish! And rings! Not The Ring, though, but still.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Two relevant news stories today.

    1) The US and Britian have admitted that two rendition flights (just the term makes me shiver having seen the movie) stopped en route on British soil.

    2) Two paparazzo were arrested for obstructing passage, but in the climate of the proposed Britney Spears law.

I tend not to comment much on J&R because I have enjoyed Reese's movies, particularly Legally Blonde and Walk the Line and think she was quite respectable in Rendition. (ducks)

Thank you Thank you Thank you.

I could give a you big kiss for that picture!

    How hot is that picture!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Makes me shiver too. I still have no words for Omar Metwally's performance - just leaves me speechless when I think of it actually happening. I don't know what I'll do when I see it on video, I'm picking up the DVD today. There's a review posted over at WFT about Jake's performance reflecting the national conscience which I thought was interesting.

I have mixed feelings about Reese too - I have enjoyed her work in those films too, and see no point in being nasty about her, but on the other hand, I'm not crazy about all of the stuff I'm hearing, and the faux. :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Alas, it's Vanity Fair with Patrick Dempsey on the cover...

But yes, isn't it the best picture EVER?! I'm completely in love with that impish grin of his.

  39. What great pictures, love the dark polish and the jewelry. He looks like he could be a vampire by night; I am with you Wicked on Austin playing a vampire, it is at the top of my wish list.

But I can also see Austin playing a cop, and having a role in the new Milch, just not the lead. He does a really great job with Milch's dialogue.

  40. I uploaded the picture from a different source, so try again!

  43. Love that Austy is gender-bending with his nail polish and eye liner, and especially that he is being called one of the up and coming actors of 2008 in an Italian edition of the magazine! With this international exposure we can see Austin slowly but surely making his way and seemingly on his own terms.

NETB it is shiver-worthy isn't it? Could Austy's hair be any higher in the mini-pic? Couldn't you just see him in Rocky Horror?

  46. ^^I couldn't resist - I had to peek. He looks fabulous, and I too love the gender-bending.

I also agree about seeing him as a vampire - I've loved that story ever since I first read Bram Stoker. Whatever happened to the Anne Rice novels being brought to the screen, did they only do Interview? Did Anne Rice become so disenchanted with the process she vowed never again or something? I thought I heard something like that. :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. Thanks Hjulia! That worked! :) Just texted Tom about the pic. He wants to know if there's an interview. I told him I didnt' think so. Is there?

I'd love to hear from UK OMGers about the reaction to the rendition flights that stopped on British soil.

    ReplyDelete
  48. No, there is no interview with Austin, just the text on the photo itself.

  49. Thanks so much, hjulia! The look on Austin's face is priceless. And I love the jewelry and nail polish.

  50. hjulia.. all I can say is thank-you and also OMG!!! are they not the hottest pictures of Austin you have ever seen. He looks absolutely fantastic.

I'd also like to see him in the new Milch project, just imagine all the quirky retro styling he could introduce to the part. Pure bliss.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Tinhat, wicked, all I can tell you from tonight's paper is that the flights used "a British-American airbase [ ... ] off Sri Lanka", not British soil as such.

Saw Mick doing a duet with Timberlake not to long ago. Mick rocked Justin right off the stage. Mick has amazing energy.

One of my fav Micks moments was when he did a duet with Tina Turner at Live Aid. It was so hot. I forget the song but Mick started out and as he got into he yelled at "Wheres Tina". Man that woman can make an entrance. If anyone remembers what was that song? It was soooooo good.

Do you advocate no criticism of Austin. Just asking. I'm a Jake and Austin Fan, but it seems Austin can do no wrong on this site. Please help me to understand.

  58. There's already a blog for the critical types, doncha know? It would be supefluous to do the same here.

  59. I've read 5:52's refrain before, and it's been answered before. When we think there's something to criticise, we criticise. Politely.

  60. I still can't get over those new photos. I'm just flabbergasted by his deliciousness.

The good thing about Austin is that because we know so little about him every snippet of information or new photo just adds to the mystique. Also its all add to such a complex picture, this year we've had hunting lodge with family, NY fashion week with Sophia and now, D&G and nail varnish!! Its all like..WTF..the man's an enigma, a very sexy enigma, and you just can't criticise him (although drinking and driving is wrong, but he's proabably learnt his lesson over that one).

    That's my very unbiased opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Wicked & Spesh you made a serious mistake in today's post. You should have known after seeing the newest pics of Austin that the blog title should have been changed to Boink 'em. I don't know if I can ever forgive you for this hideous oversight. :(

I don't advocate no criticism of anybody. When Austin had his DUI, he got criticized here roundly, but politely for the most part. Austin is harder to criticize because we get so little info about him.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Well Meg I don't think we know everything about Jake at all. I think there has been a lot of speculation and made up stories but the reality is not known. I have wondered what would be said if Jake was the one with the DUI. I think Jake and Austin have a charisma and love of things that made them connect in the first place. I hope they still share that.

    ReplyDelete
  75. It's the only person I can think of who fits. Bryan is notorious for very, very young hookups, he lost his production deal recently and let's just say he fights the affects of aging ferociously.

Although I thought Bryan's orientation was pretty well established. If he's in the closet it is a glass closet.

    ReplyDelete
  76. TR, that's a great guess. Wow.

Love Austin's gender-bending turn!! You go, Austin. Embrace your inner drag queen while Jake gets further and further into the stultifying confines of heterosexuality with the original Mean Girl.

    ReplyDelete
  77. That was me!! Sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Come on Jake still goes to Rufus concerts. I don't think that is completely in the stultifying confines of heterosexuality.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Bryan Singer is in the closet?
I don't think he's in the closet. Everybody knows he's gay!

    I think he's openly gay.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Jake & Reese are already over? I mean, The Oscars is the last event of the season.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Reese doesn't need a gay friend to help her shop anymore...

    ReplyDelete
  82. Yeah Singer is way out.

    So I got nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Love the Austy italian pics. So it seems Austin is letting the gay out more often these days. Man's ring around his neck. Tie dyed t-shirt. Nail polish and eyeliner. If he comes out first, it will be a real surprise. I was never sure which one was reluctant to come out. He's a bit older than Jake (9mos, I think) but seems more mature in many ways.

    ReplyDelete
  84. I remember when Lyle on DC posted that Austin went into where he works and asked for "My Beautiful Laundrette." This triggered a lot of protests on DC because what did this have to do with Jake...Lyle explained that Austin is a friend of Jake's and it's interesting to speculate that he could be gay/bi (although I don't think renting My Beautiful Laundrette is an indication that you're gay/bi!!)

    ReplyDelete
  85. How do you know Austin is more mature than Jake? Every time some comparison comes up Jake always comes out the lesser of whomever he is being compared too. I love Austin but I don't think it is fair to always dump on Jake as if he is less than A.

Also, M you mentioned in the previous thread about Jake's name not being in the Amazon page for Rendition. I checked and his name is there.

    ReplyDelete
  86. ^over^ said Jake & Reese are already over? I mean, The Oscars is the last event of the season.

All dogs I've had/know greet like you've been gone for 100 years. Id'a thought Atticus wouda tried to climb in the front seat or licked him or sumthing. Do you think the dog is getting old or is sick or so well trained not to show happiness seeing his master? It kinda bothers me in a way, how he was almost too cool.

  90. Wicked and dog owners: about the Jake dentist and J&R nite pics. Is it wierd that Atticus didn't greet Jake and was so laidback?

Atticus could just be very well trained. Some dogs are trained not to jump up and lick you. Some dogs just have a calm temperament. My dogs would greet you like they thought you had died. But then again, Tink failed obedience three times and the trainer finally gave up on her! Personally, I like that dogs are bad. And corgis are notorious for that! :)

Reese! Come talk to us! And her response each and every time was to roll her eyes and exhale and smirk. On a few occasions she was even sneering.

We were watching it on the sidelines and also on the balcony, then a producer from a British outlet said to no one in particular – guess who woke up a bitch this morning. And another producer from a local network was like…ah no, she’s always a bitch.

Which is music to my ears. Better a bitch than a pandering sweetheart snorting coke on one hand and pretending to be your best friend on the other.
