Sweater Set

Today is Sweater Day, commemorating what would have been Mr. Roger's 80th birthday. Fred Rogers came into homes of children from 1968 until the early 1990's everyday, changing into his zip up cardigan (handmade for him by his mother) and his sneakers asking as he did everyday if you would be his neighbor. Mr. Rogers was so beloved that once he had his car stolen in Pittsburgh and when it was publicized what happened, the car reappear with a note that said, "if we knew it was yours, we wouldn't have taken it". Mr. Rogers was so iconic that Eddie Murphy spoofed him on Saturday Night Live in Mr. Robertson's Neighborhood. And even Eddy knew he needed a sweater.

Sweaters, Jumpers, Pullovers, Button ups, Fair Isles.....

Everyone needs a sweater, mom's remind you take one , grandma's used to make some really funky looking ones that you had to wear when she came to visit, grandpa's kept cardigans in business, Bill Cosby took on the 80's in them as Cliff Huxtable, Bridget Jone's found her Mr. Darcy while they both were wearing bad holiday ones, crew necks are de rigueur for prepster wear and Old Navy created a whole campaign around "here take my sweater".

Jake and Austin are no different. Jake loves those grandpa cardigans something fierce and can pull them off. On some days they look like he is wearing a hug when he's in them. Austin goes for the quirky prepster in his blue crew neck, and is the the boho hipster boy with his elbow sticking out from fraying holes. Recently Jake is embracing v-necks and Austin? Austin is being swallowed up by a chunkyDolce & Gabana that looks Cliff Huxtable meets George Clinton, and making it look good.

An ugly sweaters have taken a life of their own, springing up as hot new parties. Totally can imagine Austin getting into it showing up in something so hideous that only Jake would find it hot and even then that's a stretch.

Who needs the bad holiday sweater to find The One, it seems like they both have found his Darcy, without them. Now if Jake just gets Austin to appreciate how incredible cashmere ones feel. Well, maybe it'll just be a review.

The Jake we all love.
Welcome back.
We've missed that smile.

  1. Amazing how many of those ugly sweaters are Christmas sweaters. And amazing how ugly they are!

  2. The smile on his face is priceless... that reminds me of the time when he's in Cannes. Happier time?

  3. Nice to see him smiling again, although this is his work/movie star smile and not the all body Austin one. But he looked pretty relaxed in the Crocs pictures and I'm guessing it's Easter together as last year...

  4. Alias NETB - One of my favorite songs evah, thanks! And Buddy Holly, and Say It Ain't So, and . . . I loved yesterday's too, about the Unicorn.

Wow, our guys look great in their sweaters, don't they? Hope you're right, Hopeful! Yay for Mr. Rogers too - kids just loved him. :)

  5. Sweater Day would be everyday for me if it were possible (we have four seasons here!), they're my favourite item of clothing. Yay, Weezer! The perfect song.

It's nice to see those Jake photos all together. He does look quite tired but that smile and laughing come across like a release; they were long overdue.

  6. Sorry, not impressed.

    Yes, I've become a cynic!

Next set of pics all lovey dovey again?!

  7. Great post and I LOVE seeing Jake smile like this. Good on him for doing work to give back. :)

  8. Seeing Jake in those plaid shirts has given me a new appreciation for that cardigan of his.

I am not a sweater person; for me its hoodies.

  9. Nice to see the 4 smiles together -I remember them well. I just hope we get to see more of them in the future.

  11. Man, that is one short video!

I've got my sweater on today. That Eddie Murphy video sure brings back memories. I love that story about Mr. Rogers' car being stolen. So sweet. How could you steal Mr. Rogers' car, anyway?

  12. M!

The are pics from the LA Conservation Corp event with Maria Shriver.

Check out the rest of the pictures at IHJ:

And in the group shot, with the sun shining, I think I see some cordovan shoes with that grey suit. : )

  13. Oh oh, he's in trouble now Special. :)

  14. Wow, those pics are beautiful - he's a beauty. I kinda like the cordovan shoes too. Even the crocs and clogs - I like when he dresses how he wants to. I have on my cardigan today as well. :)

  15. You know, I'm so loving those cordovan shoes.

NOOOO!!! I forbid it! Circle slash cordovan!

  17. I am a little nervous even writing this. Might tip PR off. In one pic Jake's shirt is pulling open and you can see whatever is on the chain he always wears peeking out. Not enough to make out what it is. He used to wear his chain out often, but not for a very long time now. I've been wondering if it now holds a man's ring.

  18. Re: the crutches video on flynet yest

"When asked about how things were going with Reese, Jake responded with 'Hilarious.'

    We thought so too."

When I watched this video I didn't hear him actually say that at all. Was it just me??

I know this doesnt really matter but I hate when ppl just make stuff up at their own convenience.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yes, it was just you.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Clarity, Jake does say, "Hilarious." I can clearly hear him say that word and then the pap says it.

    ReplyDelete
  21. In that really short vid, at the end, there is a blonde that can be seen. She's wearing a jogging suit and walking toward the back seat of the car or maybe to another car. Babbles think it's Reese, of course. I find it hard to believe that x17 wouldn't recognize Reese Witherspoon. And why would she be getting in the back?

  22. EW.com got into the sweater spirit
    check out their list of
The 20 Greatest Pop Culture Sweaters

    So which sweater's better?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Blonde from the very short video didn't bother to help Jake, so it could be Reese. lol

    ReplyDelete
  24. ^^Oh Man. :(

    Cute sweater list from People.

It's a tie between Kurt Cobain's and Ed (Look Back in Angora) Wood's angora sweater. :)

    ReplyDelete
  25. Kurt Cobain's for me; the images of him in his sweater are burned into my brain. So is the Cosby show, but that is one image I'd like to wipe out.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Unless everyone at X17 is drunk and stoned, there is no way they wouldn't recognise and mention Reese.

    ReplyDelete
  27. If the blonde isn't Reese and there is NO way X17 would fail to recognize Reese, then it's probably Jake's assistant who looks like her. Valerie? Isn't that her name?

    ReplyDelete
  28. I think x17 would recognize Reese from that close. If not, then they should be fired!

    Favorite sweater- Mr. Rogers

    Close second- Kurt Cobain

I really like the one Jake is wearing in the first sweater pic. It looks like he is smoking a pipe in that pic and should be in a study with a fire contemplating his book collection on a long winter's night.

  29. I think Dlisted was always on that bandwagon. What is new is that the comments are, for the most part, reminiscent of the old days.

Several people commented that the crutches look like they are too long for him. Now where would he get a pair of crutches that are too big for him.

    ReplyDelete
  30. The tagline of this biopic, in which Johnny Depp plays the cross-dressing, 1950s auteur of classical bad movies like Glen or Glenda and Plan 9 from Outer Space, says it all:

''Movies were his passion. Women were his inspiration. Angora sweaters were his weakness.''

    LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Long Crutches... hmmmm

Jake in the Grandpop Sweater. This is my favorite sweater pic of him and one of my favorite candid shots. Many of my favorite candids of him by himself are in ones in NY. I don't know why, but there is something about the combination that creates great shots.

    ReplyDelete
  32. 20 Greatest, I just loved that biopic and Johnny Depp was great in it - he really conveyed with his facial expressions in EW a pure love of film and the desire to make them. :)

  33. Several people commented that the crutches look like they are too long for him.

I don't know anything about crutches (thank God!) but those do look similar:

    Austin's crutches?

    Jake with crutches

    ReplyDelete
  34. Not to burst your bubble but crutches length can be adjusted. We are not talking some crutches from the past century you know?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Really?!? Wow, that's amazing!

    ReplyDelete
  36. If you look at the earlier pics of him at the Doctor's office they looked to be OK, the right size, later on at the event they appear a bit long.I think it's because he is using thm on grass and is a bit awkward. He also looks like he has no idea how to use them which is expected.

Although I don't think that Jake is to smart when it comes to some things, I don't think he would risk using crutches that weren't issued to him by his Doctor when he has a movie to film starting next month. A movie he is insured for. He is in and out of that office so much you and he is a confessed hypocondriac as well.

Again look, at the earlier pics, they look fine unless his Dr. gave him a new pair of crutches.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Not to burst your bubble but crutches length can be adjusted. We are not talking some crutches from the past century you know?

Usually they adjust them for you before you leave the office and don't let you leave until they properly fit. Unless, of course, they're borrowed!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Earlier the crutches looked perfecty fit , the pics over at IHJ of him leaving the Doctor's office, no one commented on those pics only the pics at the event.

The caps say he was leaving his Doctor's office not going to the Doctor's office and they were properly fitted. So he either ajusted them when he got home or borrowed another pair for some reason.

Looking at the pics at the charity event it only appears that they look big in one picture, and that's the one where he doesn't have the crutches on the ground and he looks awkward.

Really, Jake may be a bit dense but he has a film coming up and again he is insured, is he such a moron that he would risk the proper healing of his ankle? Unless he wantsout of this film or maybe his ankle really isn't injured as some have suggested.

Or maybe he does have shit for brains and everything is a joke now including his health and his career, or maybe he wants the attention: Look at me, i'm on crutches!

    ReplyDelete
  39. did you ever consider lunch was first then the Dr appt later in afternoon when they adjusted the crutches? look at the shadows on the ground in both pic sets, Dr appt was in late afternoon. Duh.

  40. What is everybody expecting for this weekend? I think since we got pics of Jake looking so happy alone, they will have to be countered with couple pics looking all lovey-dovey. Plus, since it's both Reese's birthday and Easter, the excruciatingly happy couple must be seen out and about. And if they're not, you know it will be spun that they're just so private that they stayed home and cuddled! It's a win-win for Reeke!

Funny side note- one of the Bobbleheads thought that Reeke (it's Reese in the video even though x17 didn't ID her) was at that medical building together because they were getting pre-marital blood tests. Unfortunately, someone took the wind out of her sails by posting a link showing that CA does not require blood tests anymore. Most states don't. Poor thing was totally deflated. When Reeke does not get married this weekend, I think some of them may need suicide watch!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Thanks for this post :) I love Austin in that jumper.

I haven't watched the vid yet - was it the same day as those last pics?

    ReplyDelete
  44. (it's Reese in the video even though x17 didn't ID her)

    Yea, right. *rolls eyes*

Ina 5 sec vid Jeesers wanna believe Reese was there waiting for Jake in the car in the parking garage. so: Jake hobbles to and from appt alone, walks to parking garage, Reese gets out of car where shes been hiding, Jake gets in driver seat, puts crutches in front seat, Reese gets in back seat of car. Uh huh sounds realistic to me.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I'm going to have to watch it I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  46. OK, ummm - why isn't she in the car? Why isn't anyone taking any notice of her? I'm thinking not Reese, and not even with Jake.

    ReplyDelete
  47. [insert snark]

I think Jake is picking up some side work as a driver.

You know it could be good to have something to fall back on, if the whole movie star thing doesn't pan out for him.

    [end snark now]

  48. Of course it's Reese and of course she's getting in the back seat so she can sit awkwardly with Jake's improperly-sized crutches. What do we think this is? Real life? It's Hollywood Theataaaaaah! Thank youuuu. ;)

  49. I keep coming back to listen to Weezer. :D

    ReplyDelete
  50. Um, jake=reese's personal but wiper, you seem way bitter. It's not your life so why do you need to go insulting Jake's intelligence at every turn? I don't think he has shit for brains even if I don't like him with Reese.

    ReplyDelete
  51. BLTB, aren't they great? Rivers Cuomo's lyrics are very clever and intelligently amusing. Weezer's song Beverly Hills has great lyrics too. :)

    ReplyDelete
  52. Wow Jersey Tb had great seats today. 2nd row 3rd base. Got autographs from Jamie Moyer and The Gorgeous Cole Hamel. The man I am totally in love with besides Jake of course Chase Utley would not autograph my Univ of Florida hat. Quess Chase doesn't like the Gators:-(

I am headed back North tomorrow to the cold and rain:-( What a couple of weeks Special I had the time of my life.

Wicked I will be on the road so txt me as soon as those wedding pictures come in:-)

  53. They are totally great, netb, I've loved them for a long time. I thought they were such a breath of fresh air on the music scene when they started.

  54. hang on, as someone who has had serious need of crutches I'd have to say when you're at the two crutch stage there's very little chance that you would also be driving a car. Maybe I'm getting something wrong confusing driving with a european manual car and an american automatic, but when I had a very bad leg I could not have driven a car. Its just something I could not have considered.

Just slightly suspicous about the extent of this injury.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I don't know, Cautious Driver, I drove stick with a broken left arm. Steering was interesting, though!

Who do you guys think Ted's BI is tonight, Browhilda Frown-Free? Gotta be a Botox reference, right?

    ReplyDelete
  56. cautious driver and anyone else whose had leg problems; diagnosis and treatment depend on the anatomical area affected, tissues/bones involved, the cause, severity, past history, genetics, age, medical advancements and options, lotsa things. do not confuse your injury/treatment/doctors orders/limitations with another's, okay? just because the indications are different from your case doesn't mean Jake's injury/treatment is suspicious. sheesh.

There was honestly no tv show like it before or since.
