Starmaking

Austin filming Prayers for Bobby, it great news, and it has been too long since we have seen him in front of a camera. While we think he not working enough, he is working more than the majority of actors in Hollywood who are out there trying to get parts. But that's not the focus here, its the parts he's taking that are interesting. And not just for the obvious this time.

Not worried about small screen or large he seems to bounce back and forth, just looking for projects that interest him, and more from the artistic perspective as an actor than for career building momentum. After the title lead in a series he has no problem picking up small guest roles, and supporting acting roles rather than waiting on more lead role offers. Seems that their is no ego or sense of entitlement to his acting. Yes he starred in a movie that made well over 500 million, and had a budget of more than entire budget of Lifetime Television but he has no problem playing a second, third or forth support role in a Lifetime movie. He doesn't seem to throw what he did for work, he just let's the performance he's done speak for themselves.

Bottom line: Austin doesn't seem to be chasing fame, but just wanting to act. Acting in what he likes more than anything else.

Could be completely wrong and maybe he is taking the only parts being offered to him. Tend not to think so but what do you think?

  1. Great news about Austin. Prayers for Bobby sounds like a really good film, can't wait to see it.

Wow I haven't heard this song in awhile, love it. Music to soothe the savage beast! ;)

  2. Great news about Austin's new project! I always get the impression that Austin is very passionate about acting so he's willing to try different mediums and roles in order to do what he loves.

  3. I saw this in a couple of articles about the file: The film is slated to premiere in February 2009 on Lifetime.

  4. I feel like its Christmas with all the Austin news. I'm thrilled to know he's been working. I read about this movie awhile back and thought it sounded interesting, although Lifetime movies don't tend to be my cup of tea.

  5. Aww look at that. How funny is it that this film has been filming in MI for the past 3 weeks and it wasn't until a Babbler posted info about this last night on GB did OMG decide to do a little research of their own. Nice to know where people get their info. :-)

  6. Thank god, we finally see him live and in the flesh. He's looking good. Glad to see he is well and working and the project sounds really good. I am a big S Weaver fan as well.

For the life of me I dont know why some actors avoid TV. I think it's more challenging to do a TV part. You have to sustain the character for a much longer period than a movie. Yeah, I realize this one is a made for TV movie, just making a general comment.

I felt like a good cry so watched BBM yesterday for the first time in a long while. Balled just like it was the first time. I also needed a warm up of seeing Heath before The Dark Knight, but I only saw Ennis when I watched BBM. Amazing job, both of them.

  8. Babblers should not be so smug. When I posted perfectly civil posts there expanding on the theme of "Prayers for Bobby",a Babbler berated me for naming Austin as being in that film, and claiming that he was in some other Sigourney Weaver film altogether.A later poster pointed out that I had been right after all. :-)

The first Babbler was keen to point out that Austin was in Michigan with a girlfriend he has been seeing for a while. ;-) Whatever!

I therefore politely opined that while Austin might well have been in the company of a young lady,it didn't alter the fact that this particular Babbler(among so many) was desperate to convince all and sundry that Austin is straight, just as most Babblers( who claim to be Brokies, for God's sake!)are similarly desperate to latch on to Gyllenspoon and pigeon-hole Jake in the strait-jacket of heterosexuality. I declared I scented the unpleasant whiff of homophobia.

Needless to say,as these posts did not chime in with their blinkered and bigoted agenda,my posts were deleted. I shall not waste time on them again - but those Babblers should take a long, hard look in the mirror!

As for Austin's involvement in "Prayers for Bobby", I couldn't be more delighted, especially alongside Sigourney Weaver.

And (((M))) know exactly how your feel! xxx

  10. Nice to know where people get their info. :-)

And we gave GB credit too.

OMG decide to do a little research of their own.

I don't think any research was needed. Spooky had already found pictures of Austin on set with Sigourney Weaver before today's post was done. Spooky's post with the pix is linked in the previous thread. I imagine Special K used that to make today's post.

I hope we failed! It annoys them so much more!

  12. What the f*ck does it matter where the information was first posted?

If all a person has to do with the brief time gifted to them on this planet is whiz around the internet comparing posts on blogs, then they are truly lost.

Go outside. Stand with an upturned face to the sunshine. Live. That's what is important.

  14. The commenter complaining obviously does not understand how the internet works. One person writes something. An hour later it has been passed on around the world and been read by millions.

The babble website should drop the gyllen in the title. They spend more time talking about R than Jake as it is.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Witherbabble - I like it! Sounds like withering on the vine. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  16. It has nothing to do with where the information was posted, and everything to do with the fact that it has a whiff of "gay" about it. The last time the babblers got this worked up about this issue was when they pointed out that Chelsea Clinton sighting. They don't want to be accused of giving comfort and support to the enemy. :D

    ReplyDelete
  17. The ramifications of the argument that being gay is biological

    An excerpt from the article-

Last year, the Rev. Albert Mohler Jr., president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, wrote: "If a biological basis [for homosexuality] is found, and if a prenatal test is then developed, and if a successful treatment to reverse the sexual orientation to heterosexual is ever developed, we would support its use." Mohler told the Associated Press that morally, this would be no different from curing fetal blindness or any other "medical problem." The Rev. Joseph Fessio, editor of the press that publishes the pope's work, agreed: "Same-sex activity is considered disordered. If there are ways of detecting diseases or disorders of children in the womb … that respected the dignity of the child and mother, it would be a wonderful advancement of science."

If the idea of chemically suppressing homosexuality in the womb horrifies you, I have bad news: You won't be in the room when it happens. Parents control medical decisions, and surveys indicate that the vast majority of them would be upset to learn that their child was gay. Already, millions are screening embryos and fetuses to eliminate those of the "wrong" sex. Do you think they won't screen for the "wrong" sexual orientation, too?

    ReplyDelete
  18. I am absolutely thrilled that Austin is making this movie. My wish is that Jake and him will come out so that depressed gay teenagers can see that gay men are smart, cool, normal, successful, and sexy human beings.

    ReplyDelete
  19. It now seems to me that Austin Nichols has taken over the role that Jake once took socially in regards to being gay. I hope this was a family decision.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I can't understand why the babblers have a problem with Austin if he's just Jake's friend. They gush over Chris constantly but they don't even want Austin mentioned. I think they're still desperate to convince themselves that Jake is straight.

    ReplyDelete
  21. In regards with Austin being in Michigan with a girl. Hello that is where he is from. He probably has a ton of relatives and friends there.

This is by far the happiest I have been in regards to Jaustin in a long time. Jake has decided to take in the bread and Austin has taken over Jakes Gay friendly role. A step in the right direction. I think.

  22. I was very interested in this movie when I first heard about it and heard that Sigourney Weaver was in the cast. The story sounds like a good one and I really like Sigourney. Austin in the cast is an added bonus. Wish we knew who his character is. Has anyone read the book by Mary Griffith? I love this review of it from Amazon-

As soon as a child comes out to their parents this book should become required reading for the parents. It shows the struggles of a boy between his religion, family and his own sexuality. Somehow the family considered themselves the same as their religion and forgot their role as parent and unconditional love. The son paid for it from his agony and eventual suicide. This book will rip at you, it is an emotional read. It is a necessary read.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Does it matter who posted it first when the most significant fact is that Austin is in a new movie, a courageous new movie.

I admire special k and wicked for what they do with OMG. Instead of complaining you should be glad we both made a post about this movie.

  24. It's nice to know that Austin is working. I wish him well. The movie sounds very interesting. I'm not jumping to any other conclusions about his personal life.

IMO the Carpenters version of this song was better than this one. She had such a pretty voice.

  25. People should not be allowed to choose the traits they want in their children, no matter what they are. And how ironic that the same people who are opposed to abortion support such interference with so-called God's work. Looking for a biological basis for homosexuality has always bothered me because of thinking like this.

    ReplyDelete
  26. For the life of me I dont know why some actors avoid TV.

I don't see anything wrong with doing TV or TV movies either, as long as it's a good script. I think we are seeing a bit of an increase of film actors doing TV, i.e. Glenn Close, Sally Field, & James Spader (J Spader was a film actor, wasn't he? I know he did Pretty in Pink)

I am thrilled to see this Austin sighting. I think it sounds like a very good movie, albeit a tearjerker, though. How tragic of a story.

And I don't see what it matters where the story/tip came from. Everyone shares when it comes to the internet - it's just about all out there for anyone to see. I have found it intriguing how often Jake has been seen with his laptop - what's he googling? You cannot tell me celebrities don't look out there at websites which involve them. Alot of them are as self-absorbed as Joe Q Public is curious.

I am still astounded how OMG is updated daily - how much work is that? I can't imagine. But thankful.

ITA - this kind of thinking is frightening. :(

    ReplyDelete
  28. What is interesting to me is that the same people who were insisting that homosexuality had no biological basis, and could therefore be changed because it was social and not biological, are now embracing this research that says there is a biological basis because they think there could someday be a medical "cure" for this "disorder."

    ReplyDelete
  29. ^^Just plain hypocritical - If there is a basis in biology, it's no different than blue eyes, brown hair, tall, short, outgoing personality, etc. It's the "selective breeding" concept that frightens me. I tend to think that it can be biology, and also a valid choice for people. It's to complex I think to categorize - probably as varied as there are people. :)

  30. It's the "selective breeding" concept that frightens me.

Once you start going down the road of selective breeding, where will it stop? Master race?

  31. I also am glad to hear that Austin
is in a new movie. It sounds very
good. I think from now on I too am
not going to jump to any conclusions about either Jake or
    Austin's personal life. I wish
them both well. I will say that I
miss them in photos together. Please keep me informed when the
Informers movie comes out on DVD.
I am dying to see that movie! What
is the latest on Nailed? Does
anyone know if the Joe Namath movie for Jake has been put on hold? Has Nailed had any more money troubles?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Kacie!!!!Good to see you - I missed your last post;I was wondering where you had gone.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I think Nailed is due to finish any day now, Kacie - 22nd?

I'm thrilled about Austin's new role (as I was on the previous post) and very sorry I missed the to and fro on Babble :) I also don't understand why this guy who is after all just a friend should be seen as a threat. Hey.

I really like this version of Superstar - it's so sinister - a complete reinterpretation of the original.

To anon on the previous thread, I agree 100% with you about the human race; I wasn't making an either/or point, just stating facts. Sorry you disliked the terms herd and cull; they are the recognised terms and not euphemistic.

  34. I would just hate to see Jake not
have Austin in his life at all. To
me, that would be awful! If Jake
is with Reese, I wish him well.
I wonder if Ted will ever publish
one of his and Jon's wedding photos? I guess not-they probably
    consider them private. Does anyone
know whether Ted has ever said he
    was wrong about anybody? Take
    care of yourselves, everyone.
I think OMG is an interesting,
    informative site with some great
    people!

  35. Can anyone answer this question of
    mine-has Austin ever done any
other nude scene like the one in
the bathroom in JFC? I am just
curious is all. If Jake lets that
handsome hunk of man go by, he
should be shot! I am just joking.
I will catch you guys later!

  36. There's nothing wrong with doing TV or TV movies, but for producers and people who hire actors it's an issue indeed. They usually don't want actors from TV on films, the reason is they think people (the audience) are not willing to pay for a ticket when they can see the same actors for free on TV. Then usually actors working on TV hardly work on big budget films. And that's the reason casting directors usually prefer actors who are not on TV for any kind of role when casting people (actors) for a film. Well, money is basically the explanation I was given by a casting director.

    ReplyDelete
  37. It might be changing - I noticed on IMDb that Ryan Kelley already moves between films and TV. And of course the man in HW with the biggest number of failed TV starts is ... George Clooney.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Over time there have been a lot of actors who've made the transition from tv to movies, not just Clooney. Bruce Willis, John Travolta, Pierce Brosnan, Katherine Heigle, and John K. from The Office who has made a few movies and is now directing one. Then there are movies like Enchanted, with both leads from tv, and it was a big hit. And how about RDJ on Ally McBeal? And that's just all off the top of my head.

  40. Forgot to add, one thing I have read about is tabloid fatigue, i.e., why spend money to see a star in a movie when you see them all over the internet and in the rags. I think what is happening is there are just fewer true "A" stars that will bring people into the theaters just based on who they are. More and more I think it is the special effects and story that is driving movies, not the stars.

    ReplyDelete
  41. yeah london tb, actors who started on tv, there are many examples. George Clooney is one of the exceptions. But the rule in the business is what I stated above. The next big one will probably be Matthew Fox who is not going back to TV (he's doing Lost and after this show he's focusing on films for the big screen only)... But there are thousands, millions of actors who are not as lucky as Clooney or Fox or any of the few you can recall.

And by the way, to the unfortunate anonymous poster, that's not an old attitude, it's what prevails nowadays. Sorry, but I did not make the rules. This business has peculiar rules. Sometimes closed minded people make big decisions in this business. I hope it changes.

    ReplyDelete
  42. It seems as though many of the stars in today's movies were originally on TV or are doing both TV and big-screen movies at the same time. I do think the old attitude has changed dramatically.

  45. I do think the old attitude has changed dramatically.

I don't think so. Unfortunatelly the old attitude has not changed. You can think of a few names and believe it or not, we hear the happy ending stories only (you're naming big names like Johnny Depp and many others who are not working on TV anymore, everybody needs something to start with).

And for the anonymous poster, I'm not an insider. I'm a filmmaker, and despite I'm not on the same side of the fence -I don't hire actors but I work with people in this business. I don't have all the knowledge but I know more than a few years ago. Anyway anyone is entitled to their own opinion. So just leave it be.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Hi guys, back from a long ride from Philly.

Sorry but Anon's don't last here. You have to give yourself a name.

    About today's post:
I saw the picture at Spooky's thanks so much for that, and wanted to make sure to link to her page so you would go see the others.

But I wanted to talk about Austin's approach to acting and parts.

I don't know I have always gotten the impression that Austin isn't worried about the next role or part, but focuses more on learning more to be a better acting, gaining more knowledge about film, and to be prepared for when the next role comes. It seems he has this confidence that the next role will come, there will be another opportunity. He bases his acting on his acting, he seems fearless in choices and takes them because he wants challenges, not about the effect on his career as much. This can be liberating and also scary, but that's what art is, isn't it?

    ReplyDelete

  47. No, not Toothy Tile. For a change. Ever since ol’ Tooth re-recommitted to Gray Goose and they got all hideously domesticated, our double-T seems to have lost his devotion to doing it in every open space he can manage. Like WeHo parking lots and the such. I mean, so many men just have sex the same way they pee, right? Let it fly (whatever the bodily liquid) wherever ya want! Morals be damned, a man’s gotta go—or go-go—when he’s gotta, right?

Right, squeals our latest boy wonder in the annals of Hollywood homosexual clandestine coupling. Dude’s name is Public Thrust. He’s a star of considerable rising proportions, is on some huge-ass projects. Huge. P.T.’s career is certainly humming along just fine, thanks much. And isn’t it fascinating, P.T.’s peeps, who supposedly have his best interests in mind, are doing their best to steer Mr. Thrust away from any gay projects that come dancing his way (‘cause, let’s face it, the guy looks as queer as my hair), all the while Public-babe is hitting some H-town parties that don’t exactly cater to the beer-and-football type o’ guys.

More specifically? Let’s just say that while Thrust’s managers and such are doing their best to keep their star out of anything remotely Brokeback Mountain-esque, P.T.’s performing, quite impressively, I must say, at some H'wood dos where doing each other is the point of the gathering. Orgies, gay ones—in case you’re having trouble reading my totally homo cryptospeak.

You know what this means, don’t you? It’s the same with Toothy. It’s the same with married men who cheat. It’s all about getting caught, in other words. Public, just like Tooth, wants to be found out. They desire to be out. But they just can’t seem to find the guts to do it. So they let their peckers do the walking, or talking, as it were.

Congrats on your Blind Vice badge of Honor, Public! Welcome to the chubby clubby!

  50. No anons guys. Take a second and give yourself a name, a fake one if you want ok.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Sorry, that was an accidental forgetting to use a name.

Oh My! That was some Ted item. Love our TT and GG.

    ReplyDelete
  52. re-recommitted

Wait. Does that mean that TT and GG broke up twice? And then got back together twice?

Thought Ted only reported one breaking. Or did I miss something?

    ReplyDelete
  53. ^Or does that mean they had some type of commitment moment/ceremony privately?

    ReplyDelete
  54. I love this song and this version is the best!

    Kacie,
Ted did post pics of him and Jon, taken right after their ceremony. It was just a little while ago. Maybe somebody can do a link to that particular column?

Re Ted today- Public Thrust has to be Zac Efron, right? Looks like Ted thinks TT and his Goose are still together.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Yeah, he mentioned only one break up, fall of 06 I think. A few weeks later he mentioned they were back together and that they were superdomesticated. He said that the reason for the break up was because the bf was tired of having sex in cars.

He also mentioned shortly after that that TT had sex with a HW and was doing coke, confusinf becasue the timeline suggested this was after them getting back together.

Eary '07 he started the baby TT stuff, since never mentined another break up and late last year he even said that the BF was still around and he was scratching his head because of the bearding.

So the re-commited was back in late '06 IMO and just referenced it for his new BI and maybe explaining why he doesn't do TT BI items anymore: TT is doing it behind closed doors=domesticated

  56. Guess Reese really liking wearing dresses that are too young for her.

  57. I really like this version, too, there's something melancholy about it, even more than the original.

That's what I wonder too, Special. Yay for Ted! (and TT & GG, or course!) :)

    ReplyDelete
  58. Sounds like really encouraging news from Ted. I'd take it if it means TT and GG are still together, behind closed doors & all. Can't believe after such a long drought of mention, that Ted has mentioned the 2 again.

Where was that picture of Jake & the monkey from? Is it from the Nailed set? Is that Jessica Biel beside him? Or is this an older picture; I can't tell.

    ReplyDelete
  59. The picture of Jake and the monkey is from the Nailed set and is a fan picture, that originally was from a fan on WDW, and was also shared on IHJ, from where I got it.

That is not Jess. There is a picture of Jess and my monkey as well in the series of pictures. You can check them out.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Gotta say it is great to hear that Tooth and Goose are still going strong.

Interesting that Ted mentions this again.. ... just like Tooth, wants to be found out. They desire to be out. But they just can’t seem to find the guts to do it.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I'm so happy to hear from Ted that TT and GG are still together. I thought they were, based on everything I read, but it's nice to have it reconfirmed.

I think a pic of Ted and his husband were just posted recently. In the tuesday emails as a small pic.

I don't want to harp on babblers, but you can tell yourself things consciously over and over; but we are genetically disposed through 1000s of years of evolution to read subtle subconscious signals that tell us deep in our bones when something is not true. So they fear Austin since these signals reveal that Jake is deeply in love with him.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I think Public is Zac too, especially with the comment about gay projects "dancing" his way.

Interesting that Ted brings up TT wanting to get caught again. It doesn't jive with his saying TT has given all that up, or with recent history.

Regarding Austin and acting, I think the work he does is probably a combination of indeed just wanting to get the experience and enjoying acting, and partly a matter of what comes his way. I wonder if he ever turns down a role?

Good point about Austin M. I also think even the babblers think Austin is gay.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Prairie Girl, I forgot to tell you
you I was glad to hear from you
again also and hello to everybody!
It is good to hear TT and his GG
are still together! What a love
that must be! I think maybe they
just started out as friends and
then fell in love! I used to wonder if they set up home together. One day, maybe some of
you can put the original Toothy
    Tile articles and BIs together.
It has been years since I have
read them. As for Austin, maybe he
just enjoys doing movies and tv
both. Or just takes what jobs he
enjoys. Have a good day everybody.
Sometimes I even wonder if Austin
will be photographed with the girl
he was supposedly with in MI.

    ReplyDelete
  64. What I meant to say is I truly hope that J&A somehow find a way to truly stay together. I think
that they have the kind of relationship that they just CANNOT
leave each other. Please keep me
informed of the Lifetime movie if
and when it comes out on DVD. I
can't get Lifetime. Have you seen
the latest copy of OK magazine? It
talks about which one is going to
    remarry first-Reese of Ryan!
    Wicked, have you all arrived
    home from your beach vacation?
    Have a great weekend, everybody!

    ReplyDelete
  65. I agree with some here that Austin goes with a mixture of interesting parts and parts he gets offered.
But some actors still wouldn't take those if they considered it too small.

So Austin does seem to have no ego there.

And Sigourney Weaver is no lightweight. Getting the chance to work with her would be interesting.

I must admit I was surprised when the babblers were the ones who posted this info. I guess I just assumed they talked solely about Reese and Jake. Shows how many times I've been to their site - 0
I figured Austin wouldn't even come into the equation for them.

    ReplyDelete
  66. ^I meant Reese OR Ryan. Sorry for
the mistake! I will leave you all

  69. "... TT wanting to get caught again...."

Yes, especially with Jake filming in SC, now Austin filming in Detroit and Jake being in London and later in July Jake being in Morocco the question remains WITH WHOM Jake wants to get caught....

Whats up, Ted? Repeating the old stuff - nothing new???

    ReplyDelete
  70. You should complain to TT and GG for the lack of news.

    ReplyDelete
