Dog Days of Summer

Hollywood has a love affair with pets and you can see why. They give them something that they can't buy or find. Unconditional love. Doesn't matter if the scripted sucked, or they screw up filming and it cost the studio more money, they don't ask for autographs, they don't want pictures, they don't care if they've gained weight or wearing the latest trend. They don't ask to crash in your guest room for a few months, or drink all of your OJ. Ok so maybe they might chew up your shoes, or forget that they go outside for bathroom breaks, and that dead bird mouse or mole they dropped on the carpet, come they're just trying to give you a gift.

Their pets have seen them at their most personal, the highs, the lows, the anger and frustration, their weakness and insecurities. They've seen all their bad habits, seen them first thing in the morning and they still love them. They don't need a big box office return, or an award before they will spend time with them. They make them happy on the down days, they are there to right beside them on the great ones.

Such loyalty is a rare thing in Hollywood. Who else is as loyal? In Hollywood, come on let's just talk for the rest of us too and it doesn't matter one bit if you're never going to famous, they love you like you are.

So some Atticus and a little Boo Hey! today. He is missed. Asked in a interview about Boo, Jake responded.

Many of your fans are wondering if you still have Boo, your puggle? We haven't seen him in a while.

(After a pause and a sigh of what sounded like lament, looks to the floor and responds) I don't have my puggle ... I don't have my puggle.

Some think Boo went to the big doggie park, and some think that Jake found another home that could give Boo the amount of attention and time puggles need. What do you think?

  1. Since Boo was so young, I think it is more likely he went to another home. From everything I've read they are high-strung and needy, and probably need a home where someone is around all the time. Also, maybe Boo didn't get along with children.

  2. Re walking dogs in the city- my dogs love it. Especially Potter. For such a shy dog, he loves the hustle and bustle of people and gets a spring in his step whenever we take him into downtown DC. Tink loves everything and walks up to everybody for pets. She went up to a guy sitting on a bench and plopped down on his feet. Good thing he was a dog person. Tink also really loves pooping in parking garages in full view of the surveillance camera. She enjoys pooping on the mosaic tiles in an outdoor parking garage we sometimes go to downtown.

Re Reese walking Atticus- it's interesting that while we do sometimes see Reese walking her own dog, we see her much more frequently walking Atticus alone. Why not at least bring her dog along?

I think Jake gave Boo away.

    Destiny, you cracked me up!

  3. I would like to think that he went to a good home.

BTW I don't think that's Boo in that last picture. That picture was taken in Sept. '06 when he was in TX according to the poster on IHJ, the last picture of Boo was Aug. 06 here:

    http://www.iheartjakemedia.com/displayimage.php?album=830&pos=4

As you can see, Boo's tale is curly and that puppy's tale is straight, also his coloring around his nose is black and his ears are different, Boo doesn't have black around his nose.

Also, the dog that Jake is carryin os smaller, a puppy and Boo looks bigger, probably too heavy for Jake to carry at that point.

It looks like Jake took a shine to it because it reminded him of Boo.

Puggles also have health issues as well like problems breathing and allergic reactions to grass, that might explain why Jake was seen carrying him so much until he became a bit heavy.

  4. hmmmmmm, sounds like Tink has a slight bit of exhibitionism in her, lol!

  5. Love these two pictures with Jake and Atticus. Full of such affection. And any picture of Jake with Boo, he was always holding or cradling him. Know that a lot of people thought it was because of Boo's little short legs, but tend to think Jake like holding him like his Boo baby.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Love the pictures today, esp the one of Atticus between Jake's legs on the chaise and Jake dangling Boo within his arm at his side.
Some of the most hilarious stuff was in JakeWatch, Stalking Jake Gyllenhaal. They had several posts of BooWatch. I'll try to do a link; never done it before. Crossing my fingers.

This one was great about BooWatch

  7. Tink is a total exhibitionist! She is also a sneak girl who will eat anything and before you can look down she trying eat a chicken bone that is along the walk. She has no shame!

Wicked's right Potter does get a little spring in his step when he out walking, I think he just wants everyone to see how his hair is so bouncy fresh and full. He's version of the hair flip. : )

CONGRATS Prairie Girl on your first link!

  8. Disclaimer, tho! Do not at all endorse the last comment about dope, lol. Can't help that one. Some of the comments are funny. Gosh, that girl was hilarious.

  9. his version of the hairflip, lol! I have a supervisor who can hairflip with the best of them. Something irritates her nerves, man, she is taking both hands & flippin that hair. Cracks us girls up.

Yea for the link, myfirst! Thanks to OMG for the expert directions, perfect for computer challenged 101-er's like myself.

I'm pretty sure in my mind that Boo is with another family. Something went wrong there. My gut feeling is something about him & Atticus not being a good fit and Atticus, being Firstborn, won out. That happens sometimes. But in these & many other pictures, you can tell Jake loved his dogs, really loved them.

    ReplyDelete
  10. There's no way to know for sure what happened to Boo - hopefully he's with a new home, but possibly he became ill too. My brother just lost his *gorgeous* 13-year old Golden Retriever to an illness, so he's very sad about it, they become part of the family.

I hope Reese is good to Atticus - I suppose it's unfair for me to judge from a picture, but you wonder if someone new will love your pet the way you do. In all fairness, my OH fell in love with my pet, and they were crazy about each other, so you never know. While there's nothing wrong with walking them in the city, and they love wherever they are taken because they love their Moms and Dads and will go where they go, that doesn't always mean it's good for them. On occasion it's ok I suppose, but I think natural surroundings are much better healthwise, to let them have a good, long run and play freely. It's all in what's available where you live, and what your dog requires. A big dog requires lots of exercise and room. All dogs require lots of time, love and care. Where I live there's a lovely state park, or our high school track, and everybody walks their dogs and they get tons of social interaction, with other dog lovers and other dogs. There are horses on occasion.

I had a friend once who was the prissy type (pathologically imo it turns out) who didn't like pets getting hair on her furniture, and needless to say, it wasn't love at first sight when she met her bf's dog. So one day, while he was away, she took him out and abandoned him. I was horrified with her. I never did find out about what happened to him. A pet is a lifetime commitment, they depend on humans, and they cannot speak.

  11. One of my fave pics, with the labradoodle thingy in the background :)

Have always thought - since Zodiac Letterman - that Boo is in the big doggie park. I don't think Jake would have looked like that (mishearing 'Bu) without a good reason.

    ReplyDelete
  12. So one day, while he was away, she took him out and abandoned him.

I would have made her take me to wherever she left the dog and tried to find him. I also would have called the cops to see whether I could prosecute her. Animals are seen as property so there may be a way to go after someone who does something like that. Oh, and that relationship would be OVER. To do that to somebody else's dog because you don't like dog hair? And behind the person's back? That is pure evil.

    ReplyDelete
  13. have to disagree london! i agree boo is in dog heaven but not that jake heard boo's name on letterman. 'bu as in malibu is said like byooo. might sound the same in british as boo but not in american english. definately a difference in the sounding of words and can't be mistaken for the other.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Poor Boo. I have the feeling Jake is a great Dad to his pets. To me, if someone isn't a pet lover or wasn't good to my pet, it's grounds for divorce/breakup, or not even being in the running for a relationship in the first place. I had a Siamese who was a great judge of character; she didn't like one of my bf's, he made her run around the apt. in circles, so I thought he'd eventually have me running around in circles too. She helped me pick my husband. :)

I forgot - we also have lots of beaches for the dogs to run on, play ball and frisbee, and swim, as well as the State Park and the area around the high school track. So it's a doggie paradise, IMO. ;)

  16. Wicked, I hope I didn't upset you with my comment - it was a long time ago but I never forgot it, and probably I should have stepped in to do something but didn't. We drifted apart as friends after that, she was shallow. I do hear every now and then of people doing that to pets, and it's a sin I think. It reminds me of that scene in Speilberg's Artificial Intelligence that gives me the creeps. I hope her bf/husband wasn't dumb enough to fall for it.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Oh, also, I don't know exactly when she did it - she told me she did it, but it wasn't at the time she told me, it was sometime prior to that. She mentioned it in conversation, and I was shocked.

  20. Oh, that was terrible about the dog being abandoned. Yes, definitely, without question, grounds to end that relationship. Hopefully, that story had a happy ending. Just like Echo the cute dog in the Pedigree dog commercial. There were more emails to Pedigree about Echo, people wanting to adopt him. He has a happy home now. That commercial just tore my heart.

Moroccan Weather Update! 98 degrees with a high expected today in the low 100's. Been doing some online reading about Morrocco. Jake is so lucky to experience visiting this place. It looks like an absolutely beautiful country with the most colorful mosaic tiles I've ever seen. But everywhere I read, it talks about as a woman traveling there, to cover up. Shorts & tanks not recommended at all, always have a picture of your "husband" handy, even if you're not married, and don't go out alone after 10p. To expect to be catcalled after and to dress modestly to avoid as much trouble as possible. And I hope Jake knows French or Arabic as I read where English is hardly spoken at all, except in the hotels by the clerks. I really look forward to hearing about his experiences over there when he's promoting POP. The sand dunes of the Sahara & the camels are really inspiring.

  21. Oh my gosh, those videos of the Vizslas are hilarious. Wood floors are a dog's icepatch! Sammie slid across his family's this past weekend & it sounded like he was breaking bones. Little canine tornadoes those Vizslas look like, so cute. What energy!

Which makes the picture of Reese at the market all that more outrageous. She doesn't dress like that in CA and it gets just as warm there.

And speaking of languages. Wonder if Jake will speak some Farsi in PoP.

Being a Disney film, at some point the Disney Channel Movie Surfers will send over kids 12-17 to travel behind the scenes with a set visits, interviews and maybe get a lesson or two on how to be a prince or wield that saber .

Disney and ABC in the US will have first crack at all the PoP stuff.

I bet Jake will have more fun interviewing with the kid correspondents than the regular entertainment journalists.

"As for the rumors Phelps is dating fellow Olympic swimmer, Amanda Beard, he declares, “No, I’m not dating Amanda Beard. I’ll say that. I think she has a boyfriend.”

When Extra asked if he’s single, he responds, “Part of my life is kept to myself. I’m able to relax and be with my friends. Those pretty much are the only people who really know the answer to that question.”

  24. ^^That does sound like lots of fun for kids. :)

  26. Just wanted to mention this since we talked about proper treatment of pets - millions of pets are abandoned and abused every year, and have to be put down at animal shelters. A terrible reality, the way Americans really treat "man's best friend" and their pets. A pet is a lifelong commitment (the animal's life) and if you can't do it, the effort should be made to find the animal a good home. They are not toys, nor fashion accessories.

  27. Noooooo! My comment at 1:44 was in response to Special's at 1:37, here:

  28. ITA with you Wicked. People who treat animals that way deserve their own special place in hell.

I have a funny story from the weekend. I went up to Boston with a friend who has a family house in one of the suburbs. We went for pedicures on Friday, and while waiting under those nail dryers started chatting with a woman. After learning we were from NY she started telling us about how her husband was supposed to have come here this past week for the premiere of a movie called Traitor, and that his old college roommate wrote and directed the movie, but that her husband couldn't make it because of a last minute work emergency. Neither one of us had heard of this movie, so we asked what else the college friend had done. She then told us he wrote the screenplay for TDAT! Me and my friend of course cracked up, causing her to worriedly ask if we'd not liked the movie. We assured her that was not the case, but we didn't tell her our interest in it either. We were all pretty much done at that point, and I doubt she would've had any gossip, and I don't like to admit to strangers how crazy I am. But talk about a small world.

  29. Michael K is on today. His take on the Olympics being over is classic. That guy absolutely kills me. I, too, was wondering just what Becks' kicking the ball was all about, lol!

I'm not an Idol watcher anymore, but if anyone else is, they had to crash DWTS's fall lineup of dancers announcement with their own announcement that they're adding a 4th judge this season.

Oh, and Lance Bass is confirmed to be on DWTS this season.

Which makes the picture of Reese at the market all that more outrageous. She doesn't dress like that in CA and it gets just as warm there.

Her choice of clothes on the set with Jake as well, although considered modest here in the US , was really not respectful of the culture there, even though it was on the protective grounds of the movie set. Or are those the same ones you're talking about, Special? I can't remember if there were any others. Reading some people's travel journals & looking at pictures of Morrocco, it was fascinating. Such a beautiful looking country. It would be wonderful to be able to travel like that, heavy sigh....

  30. Earthshaking Statistics -- The Figures

Although most people are aware that there are more dogs and cats being born than there are people willing to adopt them -- the actual number of unwanted dogs and cats is staggering. For example, did you know:

a.. An estimated 52 million dogs and 57 million cats live with U.S. families.

b.. For every human born, 7 puppies and kittens are born.

c.. One female cat and her offspring can produce 420,000 cats in 7 years.

d.. One female dog and her offspring can produce 67,000 puppies in 6 years.

e.. More than 12 million dogs and cats are euthanized in shelters each year. Millions more are abandoned in rural and urban areas.

f.. As many as 25% of dogs entering shelters each year are purebreds.

g.. Approximately 61% of all dogs entering shelters are killed.

h.. Approximately 75% of all cats entering shelters are killed.

i.. It costs approximately $100 to capture, house, feed, and eventually kill each stray animal -- a cost which you, the taxpayer, eventually pay.

  32. Or are those the same ones you're talking about, Special?

Not those, there is one picture of her over on Popsugar that had Reese in the market place, wearing a bikini top with a short white kind of sheer dress/cover up with her arms exposed and the front of her dress undone. That was what I thought was uncharacteristic and outrageous.

  34. Do you guys really think Boo is dead? That would be horrible.

Sammie, the Lab mix I dogsat this past weekend came from a pet rescue place. And Puddy, the Australian shepherd I watch, is also from an animal haven. And a girlfriend of mine has a dog that she found from an animal rescue place online. She traveled to somewhere else in Kansas to go get her. There are people out there doing wonderful things like this, adopting pets who were abandoned.

Destiny, you, Wicked, Tom, & eastcoastfan (you are an east coaster, right?) you guys are so lucky to live within such close vicinity to so many other states, particularly the wonderful looking Northeast. You have so much at your fingertips, so much history & beauty. Me? I have to travel forever & a day just to get across the flatland of Kansas. Or gee, to the east, all the way across I-70 just to get across Missouri. Two big states just to get to something different. Let's see,Okla. to the south, NE to the north. Not knocking them, but the Northeast or even the entire West or South seem so much more enticing to me.

I'll have to look at those pics, Special. Like I said, the ones on the set, nothing outrageous at all, especially here in the States. But in Morrocco? Not in keeping with their culture at all. When you're dressed like that in a country where the women wear veils and the female tourists are advised to wear slacks, it sticks out like a sore thumb.

    ReplyDelete
  35. ^^I wondered about that too; that's why I thought she never ventured too far from the resort/hotel they were staying at, because that would have definitely brought some unwanted attention, nor is it respectful to the culture. Doesn't anyone check these things, or are they above that?

    ReplyDelete
  36. PG, we'll have to do one of our OMG/TB gettogethers and you'll have to come. I've never been to Kansas nor OK, and I've always wanted to.

  37. That'd be cool. social calendar. Uh, Kansas has some great cows and sunflowers. LOL!!! I'm just kidding. There're groups of hills & lots of trees that can be really pretty in the fall.

Not those, there is one picture of her over on Popsugar that had Reese in the market place, wearing a bikini top with a short white kind of sheer dress/cover up with her arms exposed and the front of her dress undone.

Oh for gosh sakes. That's all I'll say.

After having read more on Marrakeesh and other travel advice for other cities in Morrocco, I'm not surprised there were so few pictures of her while she was over there. I read where you really have to haggle with the marketplace vendors. Also, I read quite a few mentions on journals & travel websites that mentioned panhandling & street begging were very commonplace.

Oh! I also saw pictures of snakecharmers on the streets. Wouldn't that be just incredible to see? Crimanetlys. (sp?)

  38. I should tell you all about a happy story. Someone I work with was visiting family in Texas, and took an abandoned puppy home with her to live in New England. He had a long airplane ride, but he came through fine and is doing great! :)

  39. Wicked, I hope I didn't upset you with my comment

Animal cruelty always upsets me. And usually causes me to give money, as is evidenced by the proliferation of mailings from animal rights organizations with pictures of sad-eyed animals that come to my house. They know those pics have caused me to give in the past and they will cause me to give in the future. They probably have a note next to my address that says- SUCKER for an animal sob story! Whenever I read those stories, I always imagine my own animals being treated that way and I just can't stand it.

PG, I already told you to come visit. Pick a date already, girl!

  40. Now PG, there's more Kansas than that. There's good Jazz and great BBQ. The Plaza and hey there is only one place in the world that has more public fountains than Kansas City - that is Florence,Italy.

Now west of Topeka - that is just Resume Speed Kansas. : )

I'm so unappreciative. BBQ. And I still can't believe Austin was here & I didn't even know it then! I could've gone to find him. When am I going to get that chance again? I coulda been an OMG reporter. I coulda been a contenda! lol.

  47. Sorry, american, I was going by the pronunciation I actually heard on the show :) - which was Bu/boo. I might be English but I still have ears

Sorry london, [lol] not to argue the point but its like how YOU can tell the difference between a south London and an East London accent [or different local regions] and we can't and how WE can tell the difference between a Texas and an Oklahoma accent and you can't. Jake, Paul and Letterman were all speaking American english and the way Paul and Letterman said 'Bu' [byooo] did NOT sound like 'Boo' at all to this American.

btw you might be mixing up [and I don't blame you!] the way how 'Malibu' sounds. The end of Malibu sounds like 'boo' but the nickname 'The 'Bu' sounds like 'byooo'.

I admit I cvan't tell the difference between English, New Zealand and Aussie accents [lol] but I can definately tell differences between our states and regions. I honestly highly doubt Jake heard 'Boo' when it was a definate American english 'byooo' that was said.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Loathe though I am to say this, a small part of me feels sorry for Reese. I'm pretty sure than when she was receiving her oscar she couldn't have imagined that 2 1/2 years later the only 'buzz' she could garner would come from photos of her walking her (fake or otherwise) boyfriend's dog. Not the sort of career move someone like Meryl Streep was making in her early 30's.

    A bit tragic really.

Also, seeing that photo of Jake with the puggle. Am I being too soft headed to think that the little fellow may have found a happy foster home with some nice texans (who might just own nice big ranch where he could run about). Nice thought but probably not true.

  52. oh my goodness, Destiny, thanks for your kind offer, too. Wow. That would be just too, geez, can't think of a good word. Wonderful.

Meg, I hear what you're saying, but I can't find any particles of sympathy in my system for her. To me, she gives off a vibe of coldness and a calculating nature. You know, I was noticing something. For someone who is invading all over my Avon books, pushing this, that & the other thing, I'm not seeing anything Avonish about her in her pap pictures. Don't see the Avon bracelet she's pushing in Campaign 19. Don't see any Avon jewelry. Wonder if she's wearing any of their scents or creams? Wearing any of their shoes? Carrying any of their bags? Avon makeup? Is she walking the walk and talking the talk? Does she believe in their product enough to use it? If not, please get out of my brochures. Man, it drives me nuts to get that every 2 weeks & have to skip over her pages.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Oh, my dog. Special, are you working on such a picture? That would be just so classic. I'm already ROFL just trying to picture it.

It's been forever since I've been there, tho. My cousins don't live there anymore. Get the heck outta Dodge, lol! You are a sharp wit. : )

  62. Well, Dodge Rams have their fans, fer sure. Nothin' like a big ol' comfortable American-made dually pick-up - them streamlined, compact jobs, never enough leg room or head room, trunk too small and doesn't fit all my junk, unreliable and break down all time, speed and sleek just ain't worth it. ;)

  63. LOL Rocky Balboa. Thanks!

Believe it or not I was in Dodge once many many moons ago, and my mom grew up on a farm outside Garden City.

  64. You're right, Henny Penny, Chick Fil A is not open on Sundays. You must be familiar with the "Eat More Chikn" franchise.

Oh man, that picture was classic, Rocky B. All she needs now is some sort of sign that it's from Jake's yard. Oh! Wait, you forgot one thing - the Tall Latte cup in the other hand! And the Avon bracelet on her wrist.

I'm ashamed of myself. I should delete my post, getting too carried away.

I never hear anyone talk about Lovely & Amazing. I have that on my Netflix queue. Is it a decent film? Jake plays a young man who falls for an older woman?

  65. Do we know anything about that last pic of Jake with the puggle - I mean who took the pic. He is not beaming, but he has that relaxed look he gets around Austin. It looks like a personal pic.

The SPCA and Humane society are my charities. I get their newsletters but cant bring myself to read the stories of abuse. Dont get me started on Reese and Atticus. She is not abusing him, but just like Jake, there is no love there.

  66. You're right, m, he looks relaxed & content. Hopefully, he is like that right now.

Well, time to put this day to bed. We're all hitting the hay and what, LondonTB, are you going to be rising pretty soon? Ready to start what is going to be our tomorrow? Hope you have a good morning.

On my walk this afternoon, I spoke to an older man who I've been seeing @ my park now for the past several months, also a walker. He wears a turban on his head. We've usually smiled at each other; sometimes he'll give a slight wave. Today, I said what a gorgeous day it was. He didn't really say anything & I could tell he didn't understand what I said. But even through my Ipod earbuds, I heard him call something & I turned around. He asked what I said and I repeated. He didn't know what "gorgeous" meant. I told him it was like "beautiful" and he knew what beautiful meant. I asked if he had not been born in America and he said No, he was from India. We visited for awhile & it was a really pleasant interlude, even though his English was very broken & I didn't catch alot of what he said, lol! But it just proved once again to myself that sometimes people are as shy as I can be. All it takes is for us to speak up and a whole new world can be opened up to us. And a new "friend" can be made. Just like those senior ladies @ Panera on Sat. morning. It can be hard & sometimes we don't want to take the time, but it usually is so worth it.

    Night, everybody, sweet dreams!

  69. I'm awake PG and I love your posts.

OK I will let boo/Bu go for now, until I give it another listen :)
I don't know how people confuse English accents with Aussie or NZ, though :)

I own Loving & Amazing PG. Its a good movie. JG only has a small part actually as a teenager who falls for the older leading lady.

  71. OMFG I just finished watching the vid of Reese walking Atticus. 'damn she's good' you're right - she never once looks at him, checks on him, pets him, or talks to him. Not one fucking time. And he has to walk fast, on the inside not near the trees/bushes where he can sniff. She just pulls him along at her speed, Atticus be damned. I feel so sorry for him. So bad. He doesn't deserve to be treated that way. I was never convinced until I saw that vid but now I agree: Reese is a fucking bitch. I don't care if he's hiding quadruplet baby tiles, if he's celibate, if he has a harem of men, women, trannies or Mexican donkeys stashed away for his sexual pleasures - being with Reese isn't worth it. Jake needs to dump her sorry ass and cut his losses NOW. He honestly should be ashamed to associate himself with that pathetic excuse of a human being. He needs to grow up, get a backbone and smell the rotting evil that calls herself Reese.
