PoP Smart?

Comic-Con 2009 starts tomorrow but it doesn't seem like PoP will be popping up too much. Did Disney blow it or are they playing the game just on a different platform?

The only official event at Comic Con is a panel discussion and Q&A on Friday on comics and Ggaphic Novels Jordan Mechner, Prince of Persia creator and writer of the upcoming Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time graphic novel, and artists Todd McFarlane (Spawn), Cameron Stewart (Seaguy), Bernard Chang (Wonder Woman), and Tommy Lee Edwards (Daredevil). They are saying there will be a sneak peek at the upcoming Prince of Perisa: The Sands of Time graphic novel, and an advance look at the book's connections to the secrets within the upcoming Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time movie.

Does that mean it is this picture of Dastan that McFarland did that for the cover? Or that the advanced look at the book connection to the movie will be showing a teaser of the movie? Or will the pull something off that no one expects?

Is it a smart move to not promote PoP at Comic Con as much as they could?

Now what's interesting is that Bruckheimer has a new movie coming out on Friday as well. A family picture in 3-D with broad appeal. The crew over at We are Movie Geeks seems to think so.

"It seems likely that at least a teaser will be in front of ‘G-Force,’ another Disney/Bruckheimer collaboration coming out this Friday."

And it really makes sense - he's teased with the first look at a PoP poster in another of his movies Confessions of a Shopaholic, they've leaked out a lot stuff thisweek to coincide with Comic Con, and G-force (which is a Bruck/Disney collaboration) should have a strong opening. It all seems to fall in place.

So here's the question if there is a teaser. Did Bruck use the mainstream audience to boost the reception at Comic Con or is he CYA in case it doesn't ?

It depends on PoP marketing plan.

Maybe Disney wasn't ready for Comic Con, maybe they decided to "save" it for Disney Expo in September.

PoP poster - Jake is wearing "Warrior Within" costume.

I've read several people who know the game say that. It looks like they decided to use the "Warrior Within" costume in "Sands of Time" already. It does look more bad-ass which I assume might be the reason. I think people are probably going to be more drawn to watching a action movie in which the hero actually looks like he might kick some ass instead of him being dressed in beggars clothes. He does seem to have cool weapons already, but without all the jewelry and the "armor" it's just not the same ^^

As for your question Special: Maybe they're trying to promote the movie more as a film in its own than a game adaption?
Or they're trying to create some mystery around it by only revealing small tidbits at a time and leaving people wanting more information.
Not sure if that's a good idea or a bad idea, could go either way.

It would be nice though if Jake would show up at ComicCon and answer some questions about PoP, if only so we could get some new footage of him speaking.

  4. Oh, and can I just say that the picture at the end looks really cool, I like the blue-ish lighting better than the one they use in the poster.
They should hire you from now on for the posters. We'd probably get a more fitting font as well ;)

There has been a criticism of Disney and Comic Con that they are focusing more on their animation and 3-D more than their live action this year.

I also think the D23 Expo creates this sense of "massculsivity" and Disney is rewarding their top shelf fans with exclusives and previews first. They know their fans love Disney and they build a buzz on their own.

Sorry Stubborn, I'm not that good. It seems there are two posters for Dastan. One more grey and the other blueish. The copy is slighty different, but not that font.(UGH!) I didn't retouch the color on the poster, just cropped the pic. The one thing I want to do is find a better font!

No need for that. Disney will try to please gamers, people who know about PoP.

People who don't play games don't care about Comic Con or PoP game nor if Jake looks like the original Prince.

  7. McFarlane took time to chat on the phone Tuesday, saying he imagined Prince as light-hearted entertainment "but a little more serious" than the Pirates of the Caribbean films.

    Sounds about right. :)

Loving Todd's drawing - here's hoping Dastan parkours over the barbed critics and that PoP will be a success! ;) I really like the posters, less beefcake and more warrior, very stylishly done.

I'm not sure what to expect, just going along for the ride - very interested in tomorrow's graphic novel artists and discussion.

Hope you had a very happy birthday, Spesh, and happy birthday wishes to ME as well.

  8. Disney released a teaser trailer for Alice in Wonderland today. Makes me think that PoP will have one out before the week's end too.

  11. I have a feeling that Disney has not been able to make up their minds re which audience to target for POP. Gamers, young women or kids. Plus they expected Brothers to be out a long time ago, not just 5 months before POP. They have a lot of money invested in this film. More than in any of the others mentioned, I think. Odd marketing campaign so far. Maybe the reaction to the first few Prince pictures scared the you know what out of them.

    Happy Birthday Rufus Wainwright!

Jake, you listen to wise Rufus. What he says in Greg In Hollywood is 1000% true.

ITA. If I was Disney, I would have people reading comments on all of the blog sites to gauge reaction to the poster. They must have read the comments because a few days after the first poster was released, Disney released a 2nd one with a tougher looking Jake. Reaction to the 2nd poster was slightly better, but pretty much all commenters agree that Jake was miscast and just looks like a dork with hugh muscles. Personally, I don't think he can pull off the tough, hard fighting Prince, but we shall see.

  16. Hey PG! How are you doing, girl?

  17. M - you comment about Johnny in Alice got me thinking.

I really want to hear what Jake is going to do for an accent for PoP.

I know he was working with a dialect coach, but what will it be? Will doing something has a similar sound to Farsi speaker speaking English, be controversial? Do they have do a more British sounding accent? And he was a street orphan that is adopted by royalty are they going to give him an edgy less refined accent? Or will he he sound like Charlton Heston and the young Moses in the Ten Commandments?

  20. Rufus Wainwright said...

Then he gave this really amazing acceptance speech on stage: “An artist’s decision to live an authentic life should go hand-in-hand with success. The more honest you are and more willing to share, the more gratifying it will be for your audience.”

Jake should listen to his friend.

  21. With Jeremy Piven not even being nominated for an Emmy for supporting Actor in a Comedy Series looks like NPH is a solid favorite to win this year. I am definitely looking forward to the Emmys this year.

  22. I am wondering about Jake's voice as well. They have been very careful to keep it under wraps. Even during the filming, in an interview he said he was not allowed to reveal it. He has never done an accent before. Quite a big bite to chew for the first effort.

I think the most interesting thing about the posters is how little interest they have generated. I don't visit or even know of any gamer sites, but on the routine sites that discuss Jake, the level of interest, number of comments has really been light.

Wow, lots of birthdays today and shared with Rufus too if I read correctly. Happy Birthday to all.
I have to investigate further, but it looks like Rufus is going to be doing something with the SF Symphony in the upcoming 09/10 season. No details on the teaser but he is pictured on their brochure. I'll try to find out more.

  24. HI guys!! I'm doing good, bounces from left to right foot, right jab, then a left!.

lol. Well, we shall see in the morning, anyway. PIece of Cake!! Piece. Of. Cake.

Gorgeous, gorgeous anesthesiologist (sp?). Dr. Samuel G. something . I think I need to do a follow up shot just to see him again.

Great consultation. They all do the same tests, see if you can raise your knees & whatnot while they're pressing down on them. I pass every time, thank goodness.

But once again, he had to go & rattle off everything that's wrong with my back & I just sink down in my chair with despair. Gee whiz. What a 90 year old back I have. My mom chewed me out tonight for all those years of rearranging my bedroom all the time, moving the furniture. I said Mom, it's not like I was lifting my dresser & stuff over my head, for crying out loud! No, I blame all those years of high impact aerobics. Yup.

Anyway, I got my old expired coupons tossed, checkbook caught up, etc. while I waited for the guy. Then I took my Ipod with me because I thought it had said on the internet that it was like a 45 min-1 hr procedure. And I asked those ladies who were prepping me how long and they said Oh, about 5 min. What?!! I said well, I felt stupid for bringing my Ipod with me - that wasn't even enough for one song. Poor ladies - I asked them a bazillion questions. I always like to compare to other people. It was like a surgery room - it was creepy!

So, we're doing good so far. I could've driven myself home, even! But I had a couple from my old church come get me. They were glad to help.

Thanks to those thinking about me! I appreciate it. I was a little apprehensive but what I had was nothing compared to Kacie. Kacie, you get the BIG GOLD STAR, girl!!

Yeah, Tom, I'm studying my geography. LOL. Hey, it is not my strong suit at all, I admit it. And neither is science or any kind of math. English was my baby.

Oh, and guess what. The kids' stay has been extended one more day. What the heck?!!!! lol.
Oh, we can always tell when Dad's getting just a tad overwhelmed with kids in the house. He starts getting crabby. So tomorrow, my sister & I are going to go get them and bring them back to the apt for the evening. Tonight, we 4 went to Tropical Sno (a shaved ice place in town) and got shaved ice. I tried the pina colada. It was deeeeeelicious.

Sorry I'm rattling on so. Gosh, haven't been on for awhile, it seems.

Last story - Mom & Dad have a guy painting their house right now and the kids had been yet again to the city pool. I guess he was in the back window, on a ladder and painting. My niece freaked out because she was in her tankini and she dove under the dining room table, saying how embarrassing it was. Grandma & I both told her "Oh, he is not looking at you. He probably can't even see you through that window because of the reflection".

Mom still hangs alot of her & Dad's clothes outside on an old clothesline and she hung the kids' clothes out there. And the last time she did that, when the kids saw their underwear out there, they about had a huge cow. You would've thought it was just the biggest blunder of all time. How could Grandma do that? How embarrassing! Why doesn't she use the dryer?

LOL. Man, they start growing up so fast. Seems like just yesterday, they were parading around in front of us showing off their new underwear.

I'll leave ya'll alone now. These kids just crack me up. They are a trip.

  25. How did everyone know it was me's birthday??? I feel in the dark.

Happy Birthday, me! I'm still technically on time as we have 45 more minutes of CT.

I hope you had a great day today. And best wishes for a splendid new year, too.

  26. Last thing I promise! Hey, I like that first picture on yesterday's post. The more I open OMG, everytime I keep seeing that picture and what a crack up it is.

Jake had his goofy sense of humor on that day, it looks like. HA! It reminds me of Crusading Brethren, that great fanfiction by oh, what was her name....darnit, her name is escaping me right now. She just took her journal down earlier this year. She did the Belltower and Camden Yards, to name a few.

And look at the wallpaper in the background. Wonder where that was taken at? Anyway, I love that picture - it's pretty darn funny.

Okay, that's it. Nothing really enlightening or even vaguely entertaining or educational. Just a self indulgent observation.

  27. PG -

I remembered ME's birthday is the day after mine. And I had to give her a song about SF to celebrate the day.

  28. That picture of Jake from yesterday was taken by Michael Stipe of REM who takes pictures of friends with those glasses on and posts them. I think those pictures with taken in Michael's apt in NYC.

Take care of that back PG.

  29. It is interesting how they have kept his voice under wraps and makes you wonder how they are going to do the trailers. Will they let you hear him speak? Or will you just hear his battle cries?

  30. Special's gonna get jealous, Jake's at the Dodger game tonite. Probably wearing a Dodger cap too and eating a Dodger Dog.

  31. Dodgers won over the Reds with a Grand Slam. Looks like Jake may have to attend all the Dodgers games now.

  32. Hi Special! Yeah, now I know all about the back. Didn't care back when I was in my 20's. But isn't that how it is? When we're in our 20's, even early 30's, we think we're invincible and we can do anything! We're king of the world! And then, in the 40's, our joints start telling us that wellllll, gonna pay now for all those rec league softball games, high school sports, etc.

If I were to pick a career now, I would find some kind of job where one could either 1) teach young people about how to take care of their backs & knees when they're young or 2) teach states, business parks, towns, etc about landscaping and mapping out roads so that they are safe, not just pretty. I could go off on that second one for a day and a half. But regards to that 1st thing, the only thing is most of us don't listen.

I think grade schools & high schools, not to mention colleges, push our young people and just everyone in general to do too much, do things that they aren't physically capable of doing, or teach classes using unsafe techniques. The body pays for it down the road; that's why you see so many hip replacements, shoulder surgeries, knee replacements, etc. on people these days. My company is waking up big time now and talk about preaching proper ergonomics and everything else to the point where they're obssessed about it.

Oops, I"m on the pulpit again! Sorry!

  33. Michael Stipe, hmmmm?
    :-)

Well, no walking this morning. Very sad. Actually just took me about normal time to get out of bed instead of the usual 10 minutes, lol.

I will have to note that me's birthday is the day after Special's and not drop the ball.

Okay, whose birthday is next? lol. That is what we always say at work while stuffing our faces on snack day to honor someone else's birthday. Okay, whose birthday is next?! July still, anyone? August? Speak up now!

I'm feeling kind of obnovious today, as I was last night, sorry. Guess it was either that epidural OR it was that anesthesiologist. Really feeling good about that spelling of anes... I feel pretty confident about that one. It's a fun one to spell on the keyboard. Beautiful eyes - they just leapt out at you. And he looked pretty darn good in those scrubs, which really don't do anything for a person. But he managed to rock them.

So Jake was at the game? And how does one know this? Don't tell me!!!!!

If someone says the T word, I'll have a hissy fit.

lol. Okay, time to hit the shower. Running late now.
Everyone have a good day today.

Jake knows if he crosses the over to the dark side - Yankees fan- that's when there will be real trouble!
