Big Mac Attack

We knew what Jake was up to when he dressed like he did for the Vampire Weekend video, but now he's talking about it.

"That was just amazing, because I love that band, and I love their first album, and I had recently just got their second album,"
"I got a call from the directors, who are friends of mine ... and they were like, 'We're doing this thing, and we heard you're a big fan of the band. We didn't know if you wanted to come down.' I was actually in San Francisco, and they were shooting it in Los Angeles, and they were like, 'We're shooting it this evening,' so I said, 'All right, I'm there.' So I drove down from San Francisco to this soundstage in downtown L.A., and I basically changed into a tennis outfit, and I got down."

As we know Jake plays " a hard-swinging, even harder-boozing tennis pro, a role that, surprisingly, wasn't that much of a stretch."

"Well, that's the only way anyone's going to beat me, if I'm that wasted," he joked. "They call me, like, the John McEnroe of action films."

Now who was it that channeled 70's Tennis stars? Hmmmm for a tennis movie? What was the name of that again? Ohhh yeah Wimbledon.

Remember this?

Is this the same person who calls him the McEnroe an of action films? Or does Jake claim he is Big Mac and make the Texan whose forehand " hits it like a bullet" be Bjorn?

So we know he channels his inner Mac but will he ever spill about sipping on some Nic?

Now that's the real follow up question.

The other thing that is interesting that Jake talk about being in San Francisco. And the video was of shot in January way before WonderCon.

Hmmmm wonder if it was a weekend away before someone had to go back to work? Or could those rumors from a while ago that there is somewhere in SF that was purchased be true? It is out of those prying eyes of that they had wanted for family time.

Just taking a little OMG moment.

Yesterday OMG reached a little milestone. One that really never seem possible when we started.

Yesterday was OMG's 1000th daily post. Who da thunk it.

  2. That tennis clip is the Jake we know and love. We need more of that. I cant watch the others now as I am still at work. Thank god our guests just left. I am exhausted. This was business so I had to be really polite and listen to all their stories as though I was mesmerized.

  3. Dear Ted:
As far as I know, Jake Gyllenhaal has never spoken publicly about Heath Ledger (nor does he need to), but since they were close friends, I wonder what affect Heath's death had on him and how's it's impacting his professional (can you imagine Heath in a Prince of Persia?) or personal life. Thoughts?
    —Jas

    Dear Yes and No:
Jake has talked about it a little bit in the media, basically what a hard time it was on him (rightfully so). Check out his GQ issue. I think Jake would have done Persia even if Heath were alive.

    Dear Ted:
A quick point to defend Jake Gyllenhaal on the Jonathan Ross show in the U.K. I don't know if you know Jonathan Ross over there in the U.S., but over here, he's a real TV personality who can be a great interviewer—he banters and has fun with his guests and it can be a laugh. But with both Adam Lambert and Jake Gyllenhaal, he was embarrassing. He had obviously done very little research on either Lambert or Gyllenhaal, so the interviews had an awkward, repetitious quality. And frankly, if Jonathan Ross threatened to kiss me, I'd feel like gagging, too. So I don't know about the rest of J.G.'s press tour for Prince of Persia, but on Jonathan Ross, at least, I understand why he might have been a bit uncomfortable. (And he retaliated with J.R.'s iPad at the end of the show—I approve!) There was no way J.G. was going to relax with a massive summer blockbuster riding on his shoulders. Let's give the guy time.

    Dear Point Taken:
I really do heart my Jake, trust. I'm sure there are plenty of other things on his mind right now, too.

  4. New article in the Independent.
Again Jake talks more about family.
I found this jumping out at me.

When someone sees you and they really see you for who you are, you become family with them in whatever way that is.

For Gyllenhaal anyway, Prince of Persia is much more conventional. "This kid doesn't know who his family is. He does something because his heart is good, and that heart is seen by someone else. Being seen really deeply is what being part of a family is. When someone sees you and they really see you for who you are, you become family with them in whatever way that is."

Does Gyllenhaal believe in real-life happy endings? "'Happy' is a funny word. How am I supposed to know? But yes, I guess I do."

  6. When someone sees you and they really see you for who you are, you become family with them in whatever way that is.

That last part reminds me so much of his quote about planning to take tradition and turning it upside down he gave way back when they were expecting Baby Tile number one.
I think to him he sees his family in that way: the traditional being marriage, then babies and the upside down part that he did it all with another guy.

It also doesn't sound at all like a guy who just came out of a break-up. Neither the official devastating break-up up with Reese nor a break-up with Austin.
Because lets face it, no matter what you think about the quality of J&A's relationship, you don't end something like that after so many years and then giddily talk about happy endings.
And neither does it sound like a man that flies around the globe to get some extra-marital nooky...

  9. Going along with what Stubborn was saying about Jake's comments in the Independent.

I don't know how many people saw The True Love Tale of Boyfriend and Girlfriend that Austin and Hilarie did but, at the end they have a family and marriage "in their own way".

    Variations on a theme.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Do you think they live in SF?

  11. I didn't really say it I just added to it, but well said Stubborn. You really hit the nail on the head about what Jake said and what it all means in the perspectives of things too.

  12. 1000 posts. Wonderful. How time flies. Congratulations on an outstanding job. 1000 more to follow I hope, not that I wish it will take that much longer for Jake to come out.

I cant recall his exact words, but Jake said in an interview once that he only shows his real self to those he wants to know and be close to. And when that is the case, he does it immediately. So that he mentions that family is people that really know you is very telling. You can see that he holds nothing back from Austin in all their interactions. He is so sweet with Austin.

Jake acts like a man deeply into a long term relationship. One of the many clues that's been evident for years. I know some of you may feel differently, but despite some mistakes in these recent interviews, overall I think he is trying to avoid gender specific comments and the semblance of bearding/hiding. He's not out. But he's not totally in either. More often than not words are put into his mouth and he simply lets them stand. I think he is trying to walk carefully between the raindrops though not succeeding all the time. I am waiting to see how he conducts himself after the POP hoopla is over and he is out of Disney's clutches.

  13. "Jake acts like a man deeply into a long term relationship"

Quotes taken from the GMTV interview:

"I would love to be a daddy one day"

    "You are single and available?"
    "Yes I am"

Talking about children - Matilda and Ramona.

No wonder people here are ignoring this interview.....

  14. But you forgot one GMTV and you won't put up here. When Jake said "when we decide to have"

Who is the the we that's deciding? Don't think it's the royal "we" either. And funny how he quickly switched that to I.

  15. Looks like Jake is back in LA, and brought the village with him.

erialcgrove: And my brief moment of starspotting - Jake Gyllenhaal was right m front of me in the ever tedious customs queue at LAX. Dude had 10 cases!

  16. Dear Ted:
Have you seen this vid? I don't know on what part I should comment first, Jake's very "unique" way to move on the dance-floor, his special way to make moves on these ladies, or the fact that "someone" (let's pretend it's not his publicist) recorded it in a probably very private party. What do you think?
    —Audrey

    Dear Dancing Diva:
Hate to say it, but I thought Jake's moves (whether booze-fuelled or not) were adorable. Can't hate the guy for having fun, right? Plus, now we know if this acting thing doesn't work out, he can always pop up on Dancing With The Stars.

    Dear Ted:
Can you please give me a hint on James Franco's Blind Vice? He is such a great actor and super hot! Thanks a bunch, love ya!
    —Sandy

    Dear Being Franc:
Let's just say one of J.F.'s Vicey qualities is how tedious he is. Deliciously so, of course.

    Dear Ted:
I got so excited when I saw that Robert Downey Jr. has a BV! I just love him and I can't help but wonder if his BV has anything to do with his wife. Or is she really an angel like he says she is?
    —Theo

    Dear Duh:
You were really shocked RDJ had a BV, even after all the dirt we've found out about him? Really? And let's just say the wife knows of her man's stuff, though it hardly involves her—at least, not directly.

    Dear Ted:
I just want to go on record regarding this Newsweek brouhaha, and I responded when I first read it on Twitter: Sexy is Sexy is Sexy. Talented is Talented is Talented. I'm a straight woman, and I knew Jonathon Groff was gay. Did not care! He's so smoking hot, such an amazing singer and I melt when he's on screen. Seriously, so many women I know could care less about someone's sexual orientation, and more about who they are as a person. That article was deplorable for a lot of reasons; although it did bring to light what you say here all the time about why stars stay in the closet to keep up their marketability, which is just sad.
    —E

    Dear Well Said:
Agreed, E—both on the not caring part and thinking Groff is totally sexy.

Bitch-Back! Angie vs. Lea—Who's the True Diva?

  19. You can see that he holds nothing back from Austin in all their interactions.

    Sorry, Don't see this.

Their interactions have been far and few for any of us to see. Where have you been? Maybe you are talking about your thoughts of them or the way you think they interact?

overall I think he is trying to avoid gender specific comments and the semblance of bearding/hiding.

    He's playing the pronoun game.
IMO, most people catch this right away and seem to wonder, why the person won't use the word he, she, We.

  20. I hope Jake wasnt audutuioning for the Joe Namath part in the video from Russia. Wasnt working:-)

  21. Whether Jake said "we" or "I" still doesn't negate the fact that he said he'd like to be a dad one day - which means he isn't a dad right now.
