For some today is Mardi Gras which can end up you losing your shirt for beads and others it's Shrove Tuesday which means pancakes.
So what's a guy like Austin to do?
Shirtless Pancake breakfast/dinner? Guess that depends on who's flipping his stack.
Just in case, the Pancake Man can make this for this Dutch Baby.
Buckwheat Pannekoek (Dutch Pancakes)with Apples and Cacao Nibs
Recipe adapted from Phillip Kirschen-Clark, Vandaag, NYC
Yield: 6 pancakes
INGREDIENTS
1½ cups sugar
½ cup buckwheat flour
½ cup pastry flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
14 extra-large eggs
3 Honeycrisp apples (or other sweet-tart apple), cored and finely diced (about 5 cups)
¼ cup plus 2 tablespoons cacao nibs (optional)
¼ cup plus 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup, preferably grade B, plus more for serving
¼ cup plus 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
DIRECTIONS
1. In a medium bowl, whisk the sugar with the buckwheat flour, pastry flour, baking powder and salt.
2. In a blender or food processor, pulse the eggs until lightly beaten. Add the flour mixture and blend until smooth. Let the batter rest at room temperature for 30 minutes or refrigerate overnight (see Note).
3. Meanwhile, divide the apples between two bowls. Add half of the cacao nibs to each bowl, and add the maple syrup to one of the bowls. Preheat the oven to 450˚.
4. In an 8-inch nonstick skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of the butter over medium heat, swirling the skillet to coat. Add a sixth (about ⅓ cup) of the apple-cacao-nib mixture (that wasn't mixed with the syrup) and cook for 30 seconds. Pour ¾ cup of the batter into the skillet and warm for 30 seconds.
5. Transfer the skillet to the oven and bake the pancake until lightly browned on top, about 8 minutes. Flip the pancake onto a plate and top with a sixth (about ⅓ cup) of the apple-cacao-syrup mixture. Repeat with the remaining batter. Serve the pancakes hot, with additional maple syrup for drizzling, if desired.
Note: The batter can be covered and refrigerated overnight after Step 2. Pulse the batter briefly in the blender before using.
Crazy Tree is barking up the same tree tonight. (ie repeat) So if you want to experience BrookeDavis'(TM)Bachelorette Party again now's your chance.
And Jake in NY? Looks like he was in the city to celebrate his brother in law Peter's 40th birthday.
Didn't Jake say that his family always celebrates with pancakes?
#twowheeltuesday has really caught on. Thanks everybody for helping me spread the word. -AN

Great screencap of Jake from LAOD. LOLLL!!
ReplyDeleteWell, I didn't know it was Pancake Tuesday. Pancakes always sound good, don't they?
Well, what does 2011 bring? But a visit to the west coast!! Yup, OMG continues to expose PG to the wide range of terrain of the U.S. - places never dared to go before. OMG has taken me twice to the nation's capitol to visit Wicked, to Massachusetts to visit Special hmm, also twice!, to NYC to visit Dest!!!
What is there next? Why, the West Coast!!!! In May I'll be going to that crooked shaped state of Californ-i-ia to visit M&M!!!! And hopefully m as well since we have to see if our schedules will all coincide for a mini OMG meet-up!!
M&M has already promised me one of her home-renowned cheeseburgers!!! And maybe I'll find out how west coast seafood fares. Now that I know Kansas-fed Long John Silvers is but a mere nub of how seafood should really taste after having lobster mac & cheese in Boston, maybe we'll see how Californ-i-a fish stacks up.
Very, very excited about this upcoming trip and meeting someone who has become a very beloved friend and I have never met before. I'm telling some of you. To reach out in this way, via internet, it sounds intimidating to some. Scary. Crazy, maybe?
Not really. It's a miracle.
And I have Special(and Wicked's)and their OMG to thank. And I also have Jake & Austin to thank. Because without Jake & Austin, there most likely was never to be an OMG.
I've never been to Californ-i-a. Never been west of Vegas. I think a flight did stop once on my way to Vegas in Phoenix' airport. But that's been it.
ReplyDeleteHave no idea what to expect. Palm trees, I think. Lots of traffic - certainly can't be any worse than where I live. Or any worse drivers either. Hmm, what else? What else does the Big CA bring? Guess I'll find out!
Sitting here on the laptop and the stupid Smurfs were on. And my big question tonight is who is Baby Smurf's father? We have Papa Smurf. And Smurfette. But who is baby Smurf's parents? Or father? Maybe Smurfette was baby Smurf's surrogate?
hmm.
That's great PG and M and M about your west coast OMG gathering.
ReplyDeleteAustin was back in the directing chair yesterday to do two scenes. It makes me wonder if he was shooting scenes with the babies that were born in the episode. They would have to work around when they could get two babies as close to newborn as they could cast. There's also a lot of regulations of how long babies can work as well.

ReplyDeleteLet's see. Don't know if you are aware of this PG, but California is known for their Cheez-It snack cracker. Might be the sunshine. Might be the ocean breezes. Or, maybe it's just because we are a haven for all things golden. Oh, and don't forget we are the native land and stomping grounds of one indigenous creature named, Jake Gyllenhaal. Probably, our biggest claim to fame. All things golden, remember? Or, is that bronzer. LOL!
Palm trees? Well, we've got 'em, but try the mighty Redwood forests, instead. Talk about magnificent and being humbled by nature. Oh, that's right. I already mentioned, Jake Gyllenhaal! LOL!
Can't wait for your arrival, milady. You are going to love our fair state and I know I'm going to love having you here. The countdown begins.
We will indeed disrupt & upheave Californ-i-a in ways it's never known before!!!

ReplyDeleteThere is no such thing as too many pictures of Austin shirtless. Great torso.
ReplyDeletePG I'm very excited about your coming trip. Hubby and I need to finalize our plans soon, certainly by the end of March, so I'll know then if I will be in town or in flight.
Destiny, there are some great pics of Bomer on ONTD. He looks very handsome in them, as usual. Has he always worn a wedding ring? I guess I never paid attention before, or maybe I just forgot. But he is wearing one in these pictures.
