Here is a little more of the back story of Source Code:
"Captain Colter Stevens wakes with a jolt to find himself on a commuter train heading into Chicago. Although the other passengers all seem to know him, he has absolutely no idea where – or even who – he is. The last thing Colter remembers is flying a helicopter mission in Iraq, but here he is in someone else’s life going through someone else’s morning commute. Before he can do anything an express train zooms by on the opposite track and a bomb explodes, seemingly killing Colter and all the other passengers. Colter comes to in an isolation chamber, strapped to a seat, and wearing his military flight suit. He still has no idea what’s happening, except that he’s being spoken to by mission controller Carol Goodwin, who calmly recites a series of memory questions to which Colter is shocked to realize he knows the answers. He learns he’s part of an operation called “Beleaguered Castle,” but before he can progress any further, Goodwin starts up the machinery and suddenly Colter is back on the train, at exactly the same time he first appeared there, once again speeding through Chicago with the same group of commuters. Colter figures he’s in some kind of simulation exercise, with his task being to find the bomber on board the train before it goes off again. Living the explosion over and over, Colter must uncover the identity of the bomber, while also figuring out what the alternative universe of “Beleaguered Castle” is."
In the original script Source Code took place in New York City and Sean Fentress (who's body he jumps into) worked at the New York Public Library, on screen we know that the attack now takes place in Chicago, and Sean is a teacher. (Maybe Jake had enough time in the NY Public Library for TDAT). Another addition to the script is that Colter uses the second chance opportunities he gets to make peace with his father.
Now for seeing Jake? There will be more Jake on TV, with a third TV spot that was just released.
Want more than just 30 seconds? The word is that Jake will be on Jimmy Kimmel on March 23rd. New tattoo? Lego Colter? Or a Flava Flav accessory this time?
If seeing someone else asking the question is not enough. What about a chance to ask Jake a question?
This Saturday, (March 12) Moviefone will sit down with Jake and Michelle during SXSW to answer your questions.
You can leave a question you want to Jake to answer at the Moviefone site.
Submit your question in their Ask! box, including your name and location, by 12PM EST on Saturday, March 12. Once your question pops up on the screen, other users can vote on it. You can also vote on questions submitted by others. Then check back on Monday, March 28, to see if they answered your question.
And don't think SXSW will be the only premiere for Source Code. What's a movie without a Hollywood premiere? Yes Jake will be hitting the red carpet one more time.

ReplyDeleteAlthough why is he always on Jimmy Fallon?
I'd rather look at Jon Stewart for 15 minutes than Jimmy Fallon.
I hope that this film is a hit for Jake as he needs one badly. It seems like a quality film in the sci-fi/action thriller genre but then again I have only seen the very well made trailers. Source Code's director made a wonderful indie sci-fi film MOON previously. Duncan Jones has real talent and a great visual eye (David Bowie's son). I dream that Jake may one day fire his publicist, manager, handlers and start over again from scratch career wise. I wish he'd also consider returning to more independent films as well or maybe the stage (there were those Damn Yankees rumors for a while). I'd really hate him lose his uniqueness as an equally distinct actor like Nic Cage did over time, starring or co-starring in one bombastic noisy film after another. I know the money must be very tempting in that specific genre.
ReplyDeleteHe seems very comfortable with Jimmy Fallon so I understand that choice. They have a brotherly camaraderie going--they both act like two big kids together. Fallon's natural ebullience is on full blast with him. Maybe he will appear as well on Jon Stewart, that would be great.
Great post - I love the photos, esp. the one for SC where Colter is coming through the train tunnel wall. Clever song choice too. :)
ReplyDeleteAgree with you on a lot of counts, Roma, especially the "firing" one. He's called himself a loyal person but sometimes not knowing when to stop being loyal becomes a damaging thing.
ReplyDeleteHis people don't care about him. To them, he's a meal ticket; that's it.
I hope SC is good, too and a success for him.
Also agree about Jake needing new people working for him.
ReplyDeleteM, I did see the new photos of Bomer, he looks fantastic in that light blue shirt.
ReplyDeleteHe has been wearing the wedding ring about a year--it was last March that he was first seen with it.
But funny that you should say something because someone at either After Elton or Queerty (can't remember which) mentioned it a couple of weeks ago, so seems like other people are just noticing it. The writer even emailed his publicist about it, and got an answer of "we don't talk about our clients' private lives, but we can tell you Matt is very happy."
Could be that he's posing in ways that make the ring more noticeable. He often puts his left hand in his pocket, or has his arm wrapped behind someone.
Jake Gyllenhaal Movie Uses Mobile Tagging in Marketing Campaign
ReplyDeleteAs you might expect for a movie called Source Code, there’s a big digital component to the film’s marketing campaign.
In a first for Summit Entertainment, the studio behind the Jake Gyllenhaal thriller, Source Code will have a social media game called Source Code Mission that can be activated by Microsoft Tag technology within the movie poster. That bit of code, which any smartphone can read, will lead to a game that takes 10 to 20 minutes and is based on the movie’s plot, which features Gyllenhaal returning to the scene of a bombing of a Chicago commuter train and trying to change the outcome.
Summit worked with The Visionaire Group on the game. The movie will premiere this weekend at SXSW in Austin, Texas, and then open in wide release April 1.
Though other studios have used QR codes to hype releases, most recently DreamWorks for I Am Number Four, Jack Pan, executive vice president at Summit, says he wanted to create “a true value proposition for anyone who scanned the code,” instead of just leading to a dedicated website.
As a bonus, those who complete the game will be automatically entered for a grand prize of a trip to SXSW in 2012.
The use of social media games to spur interest in entertainment properties appears to be growing. In January, Starz launched the series Spartacus: Gods of the Arena with a Facebook game and an iPad app. That month, the CW also publicized the new season of Gossip Girl with a Facebook game. And more recently, Paramount Pictures promoted the animated Johnny Depp movie Rango with a tie-in with Zynga’s FrontierVille game.

LOLLLLL!!
ReplyDeleteTDAT is on FOX right now. This is awesome.
There's a scene where everyone is sleeping in the library and guess who Jake is sleeping right by on the table?
Austin.
Poor Emmy Rossum. Did either guy even know Emmy Rossum was there on the set that whole filming?
ReplyDeleteI think that working with Duncan was something that was really good for Jake. Duncan brings that indy sensibility back into play. I think that Jake pursuing Duncan to work with and bring Source Code to him, and the interest in Leadville, shows me that he is stepping up on his own some, maybe that will spill over into dealing with his team.
ReplyDeleteI would love to see him produce something under his production company too.
It seems each time TDAT is on there is another little moment you see between Jake and Austin.
ReplyDeleteAustin must be a busy fella, with no time to tweet. Wonder with OTH wrapping up, wonder if Austin got some help packing up his place. ; )
ReplyDeleteI have to say I like Jake on Jimmy Fallon. There is something about the show where Jake feels he can be silly. It's fun to see that side of him again.
ReplyDeleteI do hope he goes on The Daily Show, it's been ages. The last time was for Redemption. Somehow when he was doing press for PoP and LaOD it always fell when Jon was on vacation. I can only imagine Jon getting some mileage out of the theory of the Source Code.

ReplyDeleteOops that's supposed to be Rendition. No more Advil PM and commenting.
I'd love to see Jake do the Daily show again. Also Craig Ferguson. He doesn't follow the party line. If anyone would ask a leading question, it would be Craig.
ReplyDeleteAs soon as I read that M, Craig saying "Jake do you want to touch my snake (mug)" popped into my head.
ReplyDeleteI"m not a fan of the Jimmy Fallon show, so hope he does some other shows as well.
