Fire & Ice

Looks like Jake's trekking around with Bear Grylls in Iceland. With most of the population living in only 7% of the island, there's lots of wilderness for Bear to go wild and plenty of places to for them to get in touch with their inner Viking. Not so sure if Jake will be in touch with eating some of the Norse delicacies but the guys may end up be smoking puffins out in the wild.

There's more to Iceland besides Vikings, Bjork and The Sugarcubes. There's Vatnajökull, Europe’s largest ice cap along with the fjords, glaciers, iceberg-filled lagoons, geysers, waterfalls, and chasms. And doesn't remember Eyjafjallajökull, it's just one of 130 volcanoes scattered over Iceland. There is much for Jake to hike and explore. No doubt after it's over Jake will be looking for a warm geothermal pool to soak in and try some Brennivín, Icelandic liquor, known in English as the black death.

While Jake is going wild, Austin is have a little rebel yell of his own.

if you rearrange the name @DeepakChopra you can spell Oprah Peed Cak.

Another little snap by Mr Nichols.

Huh? It is doubtful that he brought out Deepak Chopra out of the blue. Maybe he was watching to see what his co-star said when she was chatting with Craig Ferguson. She did make mention about how she tweeted with Deepak.

Breaking my hand won't stop me tweeting

Gotta love Austin's non sequitur tweets. They always say so more than people think.

About Sidney Lumet. No doubt Austin is a big fan of the man who brought to screen such movies as 12 Angry Men, Dog Day Afternoon and Network. (Who hasn't had their own "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take anymore moment") One thing people might not know about Lumet is that he directed Running on Empty, written by Jake's mom.

  5. Here's about CicLAvia.

It's 7.5 miles of car-free streets for people to walk, skate, play and ride bikes with activities all along the routes.

"Ciclovías started in Bogotá, Colombia, over thirty years ago as a response to the congestion and pollution of city streets. Now they happen throughout Latin America and the United States, connecting communities and giving people a break from the stress of car traffic. The health benefits are immense. Ciclovías bring families outside of their homes to enjoy the streets, our largest public space."

    >> Grand Opening Ceremonies - 9:30am at Japan America National Museum plaza, at First Street and Central Avenue, in Little Tokyo. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Lance Armstrong, and many other local dignitaries will welcome participants and will officially declare L.A.’s streets open!

    Yup.

Hectic day today starting with the market first thing this morning and lots of outings. Dinner was excellent with homemade tamales that my brother & mom made at Christmas time, enchiladas and fideo. Mmmm mmm mmm mmm mmm. It doesn't get any better than that, folks. My niece and I share the same birthday month and so we celebrated mine tonight; hers will be tomorrow.

An awesome Mennonite cherry pie from the market to end and trying to work some of it off by playing XBox "Connect" or something like that. That was pretty fun.

I don't think we're going to make Jimmy's Egg this time around, though. Sounds like it's going to be a high-brow brunch instead.

  8. I'm surprised by how much SC has fallen after only 1 week. This was his best shot at a hit and we have a long wait for the next film.

Running on empty was such a good film. Good script, acting and direction. One of my favorites long before I ever heard of any Gyllenhaal.

Austin and Sophia were never the same after she mouthed off with that tall tale about them being together for so many years. Now that OTH is over they dont need to be seen together for publicity purposes.

I reckon we'll at least have to endure it through the televising of that show, m, don't you reckon? Who knows, though? Maybe the 2 could throw caution to the wind, grow a wild hair & a fling of salt over their shoulders and say Hey! Irreconcilable Differences!!

Wouldn't that just be a real trailblazing act to try in the ol' HW.

You know, on one hand I feel really bad for Jake. He works so hard promoting his movies and I have no doubt he does his best while filming.

But darnit, Jake. Maybe if he had just kept steady on the road he was on. Just been himself these past 3 years.

You know, someone on WFT2 said that at this point, headlining movies is no longer a reasonable expectation. I would have to agree only because of one thing and this is the one thing that is the bottom line in any money-making business, even in my corporate-world.

    Money.

That's the bottom line. That's the goal. No one wants to lose money.

It doesn't matter how nice you are. How respected you are. What a great person you are to have around.

Business is cut throat and you have to make money.

  12. Isn't that amazing? Gee, guess who that is? Already sitting on their keyboard, hitting Refresh every 3 seconds just waiting for somebody to get on. Pathetic.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Or does it matter that at least SC would meet its budget? Is that good enough?

Maybe the movie studios make a lot of money from being on Netflix and Red Box? Is that how they can finish making their profits? And there's video sales, too. Cable rights? Do they get money for being on cable TV?

But if that was the case, everyone would just be making movies for HBO and Showtime.

I don't know. Something just doesn't seem right to me though.

You have to wonder if all of that trashtalking Jake did during LAOD promo was worth it. If that soul-sellling "right woman" quote thrown around was worth it. Was Taylor Swift worth it.

Is Sophin worth it? The sub-conscious gnawing, rumbly tummy aching, night-stirring, paranoid constant looking-over-the-shoulder, moat building, forest growing, red-carpet interview avoiding, word watching, story planting, family-involving in the web, is it all worth it, fellas.

  15. I remember reading in the flood of interviews with Jake, hinmentioning that some of the favorite movies he's done are those who haven't been that big at the boxoffice but the ones that people want to go back and watch again.

One thing mentioned in Boxoffice mojo is that Jake has already sold as many ticket for Source Code as he did for the whole run of Zodiac. Another thing that's interesting is that Source Code did something that you don't see often with a wide release movie, it picked up more theaters screening itin it's second's weekend.

  16. Austin is doing his part of giving back in a great event for the environment and for families today right where he lives.

Sophia on the other hand decides that flying back to the opposite coast, getting on a cruise ship with celebrities talking to the environment is the way to go.

    Says a lot doesn't it?

  17. Well, that's why it has just puzzled me, I guess, Special. The word of mouth seemed to be really good and I saw so many twitters that were complimentary so it seemed to me the problem must be to actually get the butts into the seats.

Once they're in the theatre seat, people seemed to like it. Destiny said even her girlfriend liked it and that it's not normally her kind of movie.

So the challenge seems to be to get people to choose to buy a ticket and get them into the theatre to see it.

LOLLLLLL!!! People like me!!! Since I'm still a holdout.

  20. Jack, if you are such a fan of Soap, there are a ton of OTH blogs and Soap fan pages where your love for her can be shared with others who share the same admiration.

What a knight in shining armor you are.

You can have all of that without bearding. See NPH, Quinto, Bomer, Parsons......White Collar has more viewers on a weekly basis than saw LAOD while it was in the theaters, and White Collar has double the number of viewers as OTH, including 1.9 million viewers in the key demographic age that advertisers love, which is just about the same number as the total number of people who watch OTH in an average week. The numbers for Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother are among the best on television.

  23. I am so glad summer is approaching. No premieres and no promo. It should be interesting to see what happens. It sure seems like sophin may have seen its end now that OTH is over. No couple that is committed to each other would be apart this long and going their seperate ways the way Austin and Sophia have.

I don't have my hopes up that things will change but maybe just a little time out will be ahead. Never know maybe we will find another Leadville

You don't have to be a 'fan' of Sophia to recognize the irrational and misplaced hatred thrown at her around this blog. She's not doing anything Austin isn't doing and isn't complicit in. So what if she wants to go on a freaking road trip or on a cruise. The stuff thrown at her is so petty on top of the double standard. If you truly believe Austin is the one hiding a real relationship, than he's the person without the integrity, not her.

Okay, I have to comment here. First off, the discussions about SB are not hate-filled. People are simply stating their opinion about her ridiculous road trip story and strategically placed lies like she and Austin being together for 5-6 years, posting pics of his niece and nephew, making believe she stopped in Austin to visit with the 'rents, etc. All fair observations. Frankly, I thought it was funny when someone brought up about how she's constantly with women. Maybe she is a lesbian because it's pretty darn apparent she ain't with Austin. If she is gay, pointing out the fact is hardly hate-filled. If she isn't, then so what? The reality is she's spending her time with a gay man. So either she's gay, or she has a boyfriend on the side because I doubt very much that she's celibate. To observe the obvious is hardly hate-filled. That is, unless you have a problem with someone's sexual orientation.
