Something to chew on

Alice Waters is not the only chef friend of Jake's. Jake's been a long time friend of chef Mario Batali and fan of his restaurants.

Jake was invited to a preview tasting of Mario's, Nancy Silverton, and Joseph Bastianich's restaurant Mozza before it opened in LA.

And there was some talk that Jake is an investor in Mozza too.(And Mozza isn't just a favorite of Jake's but one of Austin's as well. Pizza at the bar, anyone?)

And last fall Jake was seen shopping in Mario's then newest venture Eataly.

The question is will Jake stop by Mario's newest venture this fall?

Mario is joined by former Top Chef Carla Hall, Iron Chef Michael Symon, nutrition expert Daphne Oz, and entertaining expert Clinton Kelly for a new show called The Chew, debuting in September. Some have called it The View for food.

Now Jake has never been on The View, but Jake and his family have been guess on Mario's show Molto Mario twice. And Jake's not shy about talking about food, his love of food and cooking. He has a mission as an Ambassador for Edible Schoolyards and their mission of creating and sustaining "an organic garden and landscape that is wholly integrated into the school’s curriculum, culture, and food program." And he's shown off his cooking skills twice on TV. What a better choice than Jake joining them at table. And forget a guest for just one course(segment), Jake has enough to stay at the table from Appetizer to Dessert.

Now the question is if The Chew makes the call will Jake take the bite?

And hey he could wear his Crocs.
EoW update:
Today's Anna Kendrick's first day of shooting.

  6. What exactly is SICK? Is that the new "bad"? Is it the new "the bomb"? And "Crushing" it?

And how old exactly is Ben Lyons? 17?

  7. Hey, I wonder if Jake's going to talk to Al Roker?!! That would be pretty awesome. Maybe they would show the interview the next morning on Wake Up With Al.

Love those crocs. Those are great, especially with that splash of orange. I bet you would never see Jake in a pair of crocs again, how much you want to make a bet? He was probably embarrassed to wear them that time.

  8. Looking forward to seeing Alice and Jake on television!

I have to say again how gorgeous Phil Wilson is, I'm sorry I know it's an important Out Spotlight and all. But he has the most beautiful eyes! I love the second pic, and he looks so elegant in the last pic.

  9. And boy, this EOW casting is operating like a Wendy's Drive-Thru.

Twitter says they just cast someone to play opposite America. Or wait, maybe not a Wendy's Drive-Thru but a Bishop's Cafeteria. The director has his little tray and as they go along with the filming, he keeps selecting actors/actresses to add to his plate.

"Uh, I'd like the Cody Horn, please."

There must be something low-budget about casting in this manner, do you reckon? Just casting as you go along and selecting from who's available. You just hope that there's still a slice of chocolate cake left by the time you get to the desserts. lol

  10. It sounds like Ben Lyons is liking what he sees about EoW.

From what Alice Water's tweet says, it sounds Jake had to fly up to San Francisco tonight for the early call tomorrow for The Today show. Because if it is 8:50 it would be 5:50 AM Pacific time. And then I bet Jake will fly straight back to LA to film on EoW, then Jake will be back up to SF for the weekend. Jake go for the segments and not the miles on your frequent flier miles.

Jake has that bit of childlike spark that kids pick up on, so Jake and a group of kids should be a lot of fun to see tomorrow morning.

  11. Nice moment for Austin to remember Reza Badiyi and his first job.

All the comments about Mr. Badiyi are about a what a gentleman he was, which in Hollywood, an be a rare thing.

As director,Among his massive list of credits -- which features more than 400 hours of series and movies of the week -- are such iconic shows as The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Mission: Impossible, The Rockford Files, The Six Million Dollar Man, Cagney & Lacey, Falcon Crest, Baywatch, the original Hawaii Five-0 and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Don't know if people saw this but Badiyi was responsible for two iconic opening title sequences in television. Hawaii 5-0 and Mary Tyler Moore show. In fact it was Badiyi who told Mary to flow her hat up in the air.

  13. Do you know that the Today show is four hours long? Four hours long! Who watches a show for four hours? Good grief. So I'll have four hours tied up on my DVR and then have to FF & RW back and forth to find 60 seconds of footage. Oh my dog.

  14. Hey, Austin better be checking Wilmington's weather forecast - as in TODAY, buddy.

On Wake Up With Al this morning, Eric Fisher was Live from Wilmington and I guess Wilmington at this particular point, is in the path of Hurricane Irene, expected to hit sometime on Friday - I think they said Friday evening. But heck, on a Tuesday, it's hard to predict for sure, you know?

But they're saying if you need to make any plans in anticipation, you need to be doing them today.

Hurricane Irene is in the Dominican Republic right now, I think carrying winds up to 100 mph. Irene has the potential to be a category 3 or 4.

  15. I think it's a great sign that Jake is on the Today show for his Edible work when he doesn't even have anything going on right now, other than filming a movie.

    That's excellent.

All right, gotta get off. Work is horrendous right now; very stressful with people snapping at each other. I hate that.

  16. Its a pretaped piece of Jake and Edible Schoolyards. He's interviewed by Jena Bush Hager.

So that's why Jake was up for the day in SF.

If you taped The Today Show and want to see it, it will be in the second hour of the show, (in the 4th half hour, around the 50 minute mark)

I am sure that it will be available online as well.

  19. What a beautiful segment on the Today Show - the garden looked beautiful, the kids looked beautiful, Jake and Alice looked beautiful. Sorry to sound so carried away, but I love gardening. The morning sunight, I think it was anyway, shining on their faces was gorgeous. Jake looks like he really enjoys this type of thing.
