Family Ties

While Austin leaves the Tree behind, Jake's getting back to his roots so to speak, via his Big Sis.Maggie will be on the April 22nd episode of The PBS series “Finding Your Roots”. No word if she which side of the tree she is on the search for, but it maybe more insight on the Achs, the maternal side of Maggie and Jake's heritage. Both of Jake's grandparents were physicians on his mom's side of the family. His maternal grandmother Ruth, who passed away before he and Maggie were born, was a medical researcher who discovered that the palm-print patterns found on babies born to mothers who had German measles early in their pregnancies were signs to hidden but serious health abnormalities. His grandfather Samuel Achs was a surgeon.

Also on the April 22nd episode will be Robert Downey Jr.

The show will also be available on PBS's website.

  8. I've never watched any of those "roots" shows, but I've heard they're a lot of fun. Will try and catch the one with Maggie.

  9. I am fascinated by the genealogy shows, I caught the one about Lionel Ritchie's family last night.

My cousin has done some work with a cousin of mine and have some tracing my dad's side family back to the 15th century in Germany.

Has anyone looked up any family in the just released US 1940 census yet?

I have been meaning to, but I haven't as of yet! I find genealogy fascinating too - the program looks interesting. It's nice that the Gyllenhaal's take such an interest in PBS, all the way from Mom G with Sesame Street, Maggie has done the intros for a couple of Independent Lens programs I think, and Jake with Sesame St.

So sorry to hear about Jacoby too, Tom! Speedy recovery wishes for him. :(
