It Chose Me

‘You know, this really is a strange answer because I didn’t really choose acting, I feel like it chose me.


It was like when I was fifteen years old all of a sudden there was some voice in my head telling me “Learn about acting.” You know, and I started taking classes and with like three different teachers in my hometown in Austin, Texas and it started slowly building.


I feel like my whole career has been sort of a…small steps all the way through.

So it’s been small steps and it’s progressed really nicely and I feel like, as a kid, I was always sitting Indian style with my nose two inches from the television screen and I loved movies to death.


At that age I didn’t know that that’s what I wanted to do and I just knew that I loved to watch, I loved to watch performances and just a big cinema freak as a kid and so it just sort of naturally


…it was weird cause I wanted to be a pro athlete, I wanted to be a professional water skier and at some point that little voice just said, “No, that’s not what you’re gonna do.”

Out Spotlight

Today's Out Spotlight is a man who has spoken out in support of his brother. Having family and friend's love and support only makes living out even better. Unfortunately there were are some people who come out and don't have such support from their family. This is not the case for Eamonn Farrell.

Today Spotlight recognizes actor Colin Farrell who supports and speaks out for his older brother and for all GLBT people.Colin has always been supportive of his brother, and never stepped away from support gay rights. He is a firm believer in gay rights and is proud of his big brother.

Colin is taking a stand against gay-bashing, which is no small thing in his heavily Catholic home country. Since the church considers homosexuality an abomination. He is lending his name to an anti-homophobia campaign, because the issue hits close to home.

Colin and Eamonn have always been close growing up in Ireland. So close are the Farrell brothers they even houses together in Sandymount, South Dublin. Eamon, a dance instructor, founded Dublin’s National Performing Arts School back in the 90s.

Colin was Eamonn's best man when he marry his long partner, artist Steven Mannion, in Canada this past summer. When Eamonn wanted to get married, Colin was right there to help out his big brother with the preparations, and did the best man job one better. Not only helping Eamonn pick out the wedding rings, but picking up the tab too. He also helped Eamonn pick out a diamond and sapphire engagement ring for Stephen. This past December Eamonn and Stephen had a second ceremony/reception, in Ireland to celebrate the union with friends and family, little brother Colin was right by his brother's side.

This past week Colin talked about that bond and his brother, and what Eamonn went through growing up as a gay man. Colin spoke out against bullying for BeLonG to Youth Service's(Ireland’s national youth service for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender young people) The STAND UP! campaign against homophobic bullying in Ireland’s schools. And it couldn't come at a better time in Ireland recently an Irish teachers’ union ruled that religious schools can discriminate against gay teachers.

"I can't remember much about the years of physical and emotional abuse my brother Eamon suffered. I was very small. The thing i do remember though, quite literally, is blood on his school shirt when he came home in the afternoon. The beatings and taunting were very frequent for my him and a constant part of his school years. I didn't understand at that time the concept of 'difference'. Back then, as now, he was just my big brother. If I did understand what difference was I understood it in the most pure and unaffected childlike way. To me then, as a child, difference meant being left out. Joy and laughter came with being included, being embraced , and BELONGING to.

People are often afraid of difference. They feel that anything that causes fear, should be turned away from. My brother represented fear for so many people, but caused joy in my life. From a very young age he made me laugh with his intelligence and wit, made me aspire to his strength and goodness. He was to be embraced. To many of the students of his school however he was to be feared. He was to be turned away from. I didn't understand it then, and I still don't know. As a race we humans are united and divided by emotions. The mother and father of all emotions, the queen and king are love and fear. Love unites, it brings us closer to an understanding of the possibility of beauty amidst all the confusion and pain that life can bring. Hate is a disease. It is fear's messenger and it makes us do terrible things in a shadow of our better selves, of what we could be.

Intolerance is not genetically encoded - it is taught. It is learned at home. It is learned in the classrooms and it is learned anywhere else we gather as a group. But it is usually learned early and added onto from there. If there is nothing to feared, there is nothing to hate. If there is nothing to hate there is no pain. My brother was so forceful in standing up for who he was, and for the good that he knew wa inside of him. Many people missed out on an opportunity, not only to enjoy him, but to enjoy themselves by embracing his "difference".

They missed out because they saw him as a threat - not as a testament to the kaleidoscope and diversity of this beautiful world. Bullying is torture, it is another betrayal of basic human decency and its scars reach way into the future of its survivors. But the saddest truth is that not all children survive it. It is a potentially fatal societal illness and must be respected and not feared. Respected and dealt with as a very real problem and as an adversary of a potentially harmonious world, that should have no place for bullies or bullying."


Colin joins a growing group of celebrities who speak out in support of the gay siblings, including actor Chris Evans, director Kevin Smith, Madonna, actress Marlee Matlin, Rosie O'Donnell radio talk show host Laura Ingraham, Cathrine Zeta-Jones, Anne Hathaway,and comedian Tom Arnold.

It's takes a village....

....to build a kingdom and movie too.


That's one big group of people who will be celebrating when PoP premieres next month. And PoP's so big it need to PoP twice.


The UK Premiere of PoP will be in London on May 9th. And now we know the Hollywood premiere will be Monday May 17th and be very old Hollywood with at Grauman’s Chinese Theater. The premiere is a benefit for the American Film Institute.



Also as part of the benefit, the Mann Chinese 6 and El Capitan Theaters will present "A Cinematic Celebration of Jerry Bruckheimer," which will include screenings of Armageddon; National Treasure; Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl; and Top Gun. Each of the screenings will be introduced by an actor or filmmaker from that movie.

There's more and more pictures and information coming out about the massive undertaking making PoP was. Not only an epic on screen, but it must have been epic in just trying to coordinating that many people, animals, locations, and departments.

No wonder no one caught Jake's shirt open so much. ; )


Then again Mike Newell said Jake is a naughty boy.

In a featured in Entertainment Weekly's Summer Movie Preview, Newell and Jake both chat about PoP.

"Watching Jake rehearse his fight scenes was like watching ballet,"

"He's like a little Lord of Misrule," joked Newell referring to the traditional English jester. "It's great to have a hero doesn't take himself to seriously, and Jake's got a tremendous cheekiness to him. He's a naughty boy."

Think Jake's got it all over this guy but he could do the boots. : )

Austin has been seen a few times on OTH wearing a medallion looking charm around his neck.

Is that a St. Genesius medal?

When Austin has been seen with Jake he has a protective presence that comes out.

And we know that they often wear things of each other as a way to stay connected when they are apart.

So is Jake wearing Austin's medal? Austin's way of protecting him while they are parted. Or are both of them wearing the medals? Connecting them and protecting the other until they are reunited?

Could see either being true.

One thing it seems my Spidey senses are telling me Austin's the man behind the medal mania.



You know if Jake wants to add a little more Austin for protections he could go for St. Austin. The patron saint protecting those with bad eyes.

Beard busted?

Is this one to dye for? Does Austin have Salt in Peppa?

It seems that Mr. Nichols may have more than just who he spends his weekends with to be secret about.

Just for Men might mean his beard too.

Back doing Deadwood, and around the time of Espy's/FNL Austin seemed to have a brown beard.


It was similar in coloring of his natural hair color just a bit deeper color.


We know that Austin does have some natural auburn to his hair.



And there was that time that he and Jake both had a reddish tone at the same time(what the heck was up with that?) Now we know that Austin has changed his hair and hair color for roles.


But when did go so dark? Even just since OTH.

Now if people say he bleached the beard to match the feathers. Well that might not to help some of the arguments that some fans debate.

Look likes Jake's going to do Broadway and handle some balls one way or another.


It might be the Jets that beat Damn Yankees to get Jakey first on film. It is being reporting that James Mangold director of Walk the Line might be directing Jake in the Joe Namath biopic. OMG first guessed way back in August 2007 and then the guess looked like a good one in November 2007.



Mangold currently has nothing on his shooting schedule and once Source Code wraps at the end of the month, Jake just has promotions for PoP and Love and Other Drugs on his. Universal wants to make sure that David Hollander's script is ready to go before it moves into production but the fact Mangold has come on board the project could be the sign that it might go into production sooner rather than later.

Damn Jake, being a Red Sox and Patriots fan, you can really pick 'em, can't you. The Yankees and the Jets.

And Jake can hold is own now if they go for another Battle Bowl Jake vs. Joe Action figures now that Jake has the cool weaponry and the parkour edge. And the legs for those pantyhose? You decide.

And the goings?????????

Yesterday there was a mention of Sophia being cast for a pilot with Don Johnson and Mary Steenbergen (one of Jake's old Vineyard neighbors) for ABC. So what's the deal with OTH then? Well.... there's a little difference of opinions. But here's what's known for sure. No decision has been made yet, but will be soon. That the odds for the show are pretty much 50/50. And that if OTH is renewed her deal with ABC is a no go.

"They're going to put us up against CSI New Age: Sandalwood & Sage?"

Now the rest of the story.

Zap2it is saying that OTH is competing against Life Unexpected for renewal. According to Zap2it readers, TV viewers do want OTH back, but not at the expense of canceling LUX.

Over on E with Kristin says it may no longer be true that they are competing against each other. One of her sources is saying it's looking likely at this point that OTH and LUX would each 13 episodes.

How many time jumps could OTH could in 13 episode? Jamie's college graduation and marry Lucas & Peyton's daughter to set up OTH: The Next Generation? Julian a big time producer winning an Oscar and geting a new younger version of Brooke Davis(TM)? Brooke Davis (TM) and Victoria doing their own version Grey Gardens?

Another one of her insider calls OTH's chances "better than 50/50." Nothing's set in stone and The CW has until May 19 to announce its fall lineup to advertisers.

"Listen the next time jump I'm playing Julian."

It's a wait and see.

Pictures from Jake's new interview from GQ. And a great departure from the last set of pictures he did from GQ.

Last time, he was alone in a house, quiet and contemplative in the pictures. But this time he comes back and show that fun and spirited side of him. And easy going silliness from goofing off in the aisle of the candy store to standing under the Jake's Bar Mitzah sign at Katz's Deli.

Despite the lightheartedness of the pictures, Jake touches on some of the serious things in his life, including his parent's divorce, and for the first time how Heath's death affected him.

'Family ... my family, you know ... I love them ... whatever they do, whatever they are ... I love them ... you're actually going to make me cry ...' And just a little, he does."

Peter (in the GQ article) .... "extolling Jake’s virtues, how unusual he is: “It’s a very difficult thing—or it has been over the course of my life—for me to have respect for people like Jake, who are not self-destructive, who are positive. There are very few actors who have that quality. I go [sighs], ‘Ohhhh, motherf–ker just wants to live—f–k him.’ and my thesis with Jake is that it is genuine. He is not doing it to be more popular and more successful, it is actually who he is.”
