Manga.... Manga?

When Jake's Prisoner co-star (and Austin's Beautiful Boy co-star) Mario Bello visted the show The Chew she talked about having the cast over to her apartment during filming for family dinner.

Bello a great cook, talked about making chicken and her mom's pasta for everyone. She mentioned that Hugh could eat anything he wanted and as much as he wanted for 8 straight hours.  When Mario asked about Jake, she mentioned that he was on a diet for another role.

Was Jake working to slimming down for Nightcrawler during production for Prisoners?  If so the dramatic weight loss was not as much of a crash plan but a long range one.

Remembering the sacrifices of some for the rights and freedoms of all.

How New York of You

Last weekend Jake attended the Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s annual Art + Film gala,  and to Jake it was more like New York West.

He told the Wall Street Journal " 'It’s a very New York party,' observed the slimmer than usual actor Jake", as he declined a cheese puff from a cater waiter. ( Just like those upper East Side ladies who lunch, but don't eat)

“At least a lot of the New York crowd is here.”

Another observation of Jake from the event was that he didn't seem to mind walking the red carpet alone. But he wasn't alone in that club, it seemed like he had another member in the solo guy club in Leo DeCaprio, who did the  same thing.
You'd think it if was a New York crowd wouldn't your "cooking mentee" fit right in? If you have a model this is one of those places you'd think you'd want to bring them. To walk a long narrow walkway and stand among beautiful things. They don't need to even practice.  Guess not. But know fear Jake ran into old friends.

Guess that mentor/mentee thing is only a one way deal, because Jakey a good model will tell you never have the base foundation on you face darker than the color of your hands.

The event  honored Martin Scorsese and David Hockney,  is quickly becoming one of the best parties of the year in LA. Which is quite the feat with all the parties, premieres and events that happen in LA.  But it was all for a good cause raising over $4 million for LACMA’s film initiatives and future exhibitions.

Something to chew on

What if Jake's dramatic weight loss is less about Nightcrawling and more about mountain climbing?

Just take a moment and think about it.

Remember the story of Everest is about two climbing groups who get stuck on Everest because of a freak storm and what happens up the world's tallest peak before they are saved. We know from the book that 8 members die. The conditions are not just harsh they are extreme x10. The climbers are already lean to attempt such a climb, and with a day or two in such conditions and with limited food when you need a high caloric diet to just maintain weight, you could see the dramatic effect it would have on a body.

With Everest set to start shoot next month,  Jake wouldn't have the time to get down to that dramatic weight loss that fast.  What they could be doing is shooting out of sequence and shooting the high mountain drama scenes and rescue first, and then work their way backwards.

With multiple locations all over the world for Everest it will be a long shoot with break in between as they relocate to various countries.  If they shot Jake at his thinnest first, then he can safely regain the weight on the breaks.

With a December 19, 2014 opening (yup Jake's birthday) they don't have a lot of time for Jake to get in the physical condition of being gaunt and left for dead because they have to get shooting. And  Jake knew he didn't have any time between Nightcrawler and Everest so he incorporated the look into storyline for Nightcrawler.  A two for one deal.

Disappear into Thin Air

As he has been doing this month, Jake was filming earlier this week in LA, while the pictures were dated Oct 21, it looks like they might have been in the wee small hours of Monday, since Jake spent Monday evening at the Hollywood Film Awards.

From this past week there have been a few more clues about Jake's role.  The characters name is Lou, his a videographer chasing stories across the night in LA, and it could be more likely that he is an independent reporter out chasing the story, to sell it back to news outlets.
Definitely dramatic, Nightcrawler looks like a dark story of the even darker side of the night in City of Angels.  Lou, gaunt and thin, might be hungry for a story (and most definitely a sandwich) but there is more than hungry that is eating the man from the inside out.

LA Whoa Man

The first official pictures from the set of Nightcrawler and ironically in daylight.

While it looks like Jake Lite, the movie is not, it is a look at the competitive world of after hours journalism in LA.

The movie also used KTLA yesterday as a set for several scenes.

And then today Jake hit the beach.  Venice Beach.

Just call him a bunhead.  Wait - can't do that unless you can belt it out like Sutton Foster Jakey. ; )

But Jakey if you get any thinner, while those Hollywood Mean Girls will love your cheek, collar and wrist bones they'll gang up and cut you on your next juice run. You are getting too close to the lollipop their signature look.

Thankfully Nightcrawler is a short shoot, so Jake can get back to his regular fighting weight.  He's a good middleweight and not meant to be a lightweight.

By November he can put down the juice and pick up nice big meal like turkey and all the trimmings.

Speaking of  Turkey and Trimmings - OMG wants to say Happy Thanksgiving to our friends in the North.

We hope you had a wonderful day gathering with family and friends and reflecting on what is to be thankful.

Happy Thanksgiving Canada!!!!
