Almost off the list

Jake's End of Watch co-star was not too happy with Jakey last year.

"I know! I was so pissed at Jake, let me tell you, I texted him and said, 'You’re abandoning me, and I’m never going to forgive you!' "

And what pissed her off?  Jake dropping out of "Into the Woods."

Jake had signed on to share prince duties with Chris Pine. Jake supposed was to be Rapunzel’s suitor while Pine pines Cinderella.  It was a musical and more importantly Sondheim, a favorite of Jake's, so him pulling out of the Rob Marshall big screen adaptation was a bit of a shocker.  You can see why she felt abandoned.

And, after awhile, Anna finally cooled her temper. She said, "And then I saw the trailer to Nightcrawler and texted him again and said, 'Wow, you inspire me every day.' ”

The jury's still out if Jake really pulled out of "Into the Woods" to do Nightcrawler, or if there was some other reason, but at least he's back on the good list with Anne.

Taking it to #1 - again

Jake is on top again.

Back in the fall EoW came out ahead it's opening weekend.

And now it's #1 for home DVD and Blu-Ray sales.

The small budget End of Watch turned out $41 million at the domestic box office and it still has releases worldwide scheduled for 2013.

EoW bumped the prior week’s top seller, 20th Century Fox’s Taken 2, to the No. 2 spot on both the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart, which tracks overall disc sales, and Nielsen’s dedicated Blu-ray Disc sales chart.

This is another small  to medium size movie that returned solid numbers and created profit after all is said and done.

Jake also has success in home DVD's.  His last four movies were number #1 the first week of their DVD release. (Prince of Persia, Love & Other Drugs, Source Code and End of Watch)

While tentpole movies might not be Jake's forte for success, he has found the right combination of movie size, budget and target size to come out on top not just for the studio but Jake as well.

Home Watch

If you didn't get a chance to see it in the theater or were just waiting until it came out on DVD, next week will be your first chance to see EoW on DVD.

EoW will be release on DVD/Blu-Ray next Tuesday Jan 22nd in the US.

Along with the movie Universal put together a two-disc set that includes the Blu-ray, a DVD copy of the film and an insert with codes to redeem iTunes-compatible and UltraViolet digital copies.

There is commentary from Writer/Director David Ayer, the film's who shares his knowledge on all things L.A. (born and raised), and provides extensive background on the cast, shooting on location and formulating the script.

He  also reveals that the various cameras allow viewers to experience the action from several vantage points, including those of the officers, gang members and innocent bystanders.

And what's a DVD without some deleted scenes. They include some of which were clearly cut to keep the film at an appropriate length.  Reviews of the DVD say there are a lot of good moments in this deleted reel, and some of the material with the supporting cast might just as easily been kept in the film.

And finally, all those internet featurettes/shorts that came out in promoting the movie are included on the disc as well and  brief interviews from the cast and crew.

Yup that's right, two.. January twenty -two

Re-booked

Jake hopped back over the pond this weekend and has kept a low profile for the last few days of his hiatus before returning to the stage this week.

While his play is getting extra time, it's not the only thing.
While on its first run in England,  distributor Open Road Films "is making a strategic move to bump up awards season buzz" for End of Watch,  by re-releasing it in theaters this Friday in the US.

EoW will be back in theaters for a limited engagement beginning Dec 7th. So if you didn't get a chance to see it in the theaters the first time, you get a chance to catch it again.

Or you can wait until it comes out on DVD and Blu-Ray on Jan 22,  in the US.

EoW will be opening across Europe late winter/early spinner.

Tall Glass of Something

Jake's been a busy guy in England

He chatted with Grimmy on BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show

And he went and sat down to chat and cracked up with Graham Norton

But it's Austin Friday - so why all the Jake stuff

Jake happy happy demeanor might not be just his hiatus of the play or being in London,  but that he's not there just by himself.  He is truly a happy chappy which lends to believe that he has those he loves with him, including that Tall Texan that makes him smile.

Speaking of that Tall Texan.

Jake was asked what drink he would be on the live chat with MSN UK and what did he say?

"A Ribena. Next to a tall glass of water..."

Now Ribena is sweeten black current juice - that still is a little tart

And a tall glass of water?

Jake who ever do you mean that you'd be next to?
A little bit tart?

Now how's that for your Austin Friday?

End over End

Jake's trip to England is more of a busman's holiday with him doing promotion for EoW to at least three outlets tomorrow.

Jake will chat with BBC Radio One's Nick Grimshaw Friday morning,  field questions on MSN UK later in the day and then his late couch time  with Graham Norton.

And it looks like the end of the End in terms of promotion for it's theatrical run too. And for those who missed it  End of Watch is coming out on Blu-Ray and DVD in the US on January 20th.

While Jake works his way out of 2012, 2013 will give him a little rest in Jan will soon ramp up in February as he goes back in front of the camera for Prisoners.

Then maybe Jake's beard will get a break.

All work and no play?

A Little Independent Spirit

There was speculation that End of Watch would be well represented across the board at Independent Spirit Awards,  but it came out with just two nominations and Jake isn't one of them.

The two noms came for best supporting male for Michael Pena,

and for best cinematography nom for Roman Vasyanov.

Will End of Watch be a part of the Golden Globe Derby?  It will be a wait and see.

And where was Jake when the Independent Award noms where announced?  England

And it looks like Austin was a traveling man too.  (More about that on Austin Friday Travelogue)

But there is work to do this week Jake is off the play.  He's sitting down and getting chatty.

One correction about Jake on Graham Norton.

Jake  will be on Graham Norton THIS Friday night  on BBC One Channel ( 10:35pm).

His visit with Graham along with other guest Joan Rivers, Ke$ha, and the 2/3rd of Top Gear will be on BBC America December 8th.

#1 with a Bullet

Congratulations Jake.

With a come from behind the underdog  EoW went to the top of this weekend's box office.  And with that Jake has something he has never had before,  opening a movie at #1.

It was done without a three ring circus or a bearded lady.

So here's something to think about Jakey.

Maybe the reason that you done so well  is because you're letting your craft shine again, and not let it get dimmed by all the others shenanigans of playing the game in HW.

People get to see what a great actor you are on screen instead focusing on the other act off screen.

Good news, good reviews, good things....

EoW got a strong start on it's opening weekend with a Friday over expectations, making an estimate $4.6 million the first day.  With a movie that was made for just $7million it had already recouped it's production budget.

But Jake was still out there working and talking about the movie.  And ok having some fun with Jimmy Fallon.

Jake is getting great reviews for his work on EoW and he's getting good mentions for his role in the play "If There Is"

For those how want to see Jake but can't get to NYC , here's a clip courtesy of Broadway World.
