Stuck in the Snow

Last week The Hollywood Reporter reported that Jake was teaming up again with his Southpaw director Antoine Fuqua for the movie The Man Who Made It Snow, a 1980s crime drama.

Jake is cast as the man in the title, Max Mermelstein,  thought to be the only American who was in the inner circle of the Colombian cartels in the go-go 1980s.

Snow is a biopic of Mermelstein and is based on his autobiography. Brett Tabor wrote the script. Jake will produce with Fuqua, Tabor and IM Global's Matt Jackson.

But this week,  it is reported that everything is at a halt, and heading to  court.

 "Randall Emmett and George Furla's Emmett/Furla Oasis Films is upset at being cut out of The Man Who Made It Snow..."  "The production company has filed a $5 million lawsuit against the film's screenwriter that seeks an injunction against any distribution of the movie."

According to a complaint filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, Emmett and Tabor have been in close contact for the last few years trying to make the film. The production was put on hold due to other competing films and TV programs in the marketplace.

"However, very recently, on September 30, 2014, Plaintiff and Defendant Tabor agreed that Plaintiff would produce and finance the Picture as evidenced by an option agreement contained in an email correspondence from Defendant Tabor to Mr. Emmett," states the lawsuit.

The email, attached to the complaint, conditions the film option on making a successful pay-or-play offer to Gyllenhaal for the lead role of Mermelstein. According to further court documents, Gyllenhaal was offered $6 million for the picture while Fuqua was to get a producer/director fee of $5 million. Emmett had planned to contribute $31 million to the picture's budget and had also agreed to let Tabor executive produce.
  
"However, unbeknownst to Plaintiff, Defendant Tabor, had, among other things, secretly and surreptitiously utilized Plaintiff's efforts and financing proposal/commitment, and proceeded to negotiate an agreement with IM Global for the financing and distribution of the Picture."

IM Global has launched the film at this week's American Film Market and has put out word that some presales with foreign distributors have been closed.

Emmett claims that Tabor and his associates have interfered with negotiations with Gyllenhaal's agent by claiming that Emmett has no rights to The Man Who Made It Snow. Tabor is said to have been warned not to execute any agreements that transfer rights, but Tabor's reps allegedly never responded."

It looks like are going to be some snow delays with this one.

Turnabout is fair play

Early in Jake's career he talked about how his parents would give advice about his movies, and how he would seek their professional advice (not just what Mom & Dad think)

It's now come full circle when the child is giving the parent advice.

For Naomi's new movie, "All the Good Girls" , Jake gave his two cents on mom's first directorial project.

"Jake was in the editing room frequently. He was the one who pointed out that Boyd's character was like Clarence in 'It's a Wonderful Life,' who comes in and tells them something they need to know," she said. "He gave me some great advice during the making of this."

You wonder if Jake has done the same thing with some other's directorial projects?

Austin hasn't been burning up twitter much.  So why would Austin tweet something like that on a Sunday afternoon?   Could it be the same reason there were no pictures of Jake leaving LA yesterday, who's in NYC now?

Stop the Traffic

While Prisoner's has been shooting around Atlanta, this week they will be shooting in Atlanta, and will be causing a few changes in travel plans due to street closings.

Starting tomorrow  from 5AM  till around 7PM  production will cause a full street closure of Cleveland Avenue between Jewel Street and Winburn Terrace and Jefferson Terrace between Forest Avenue and Cleveland Avenue.  If you are in Atlanta you might get a chance to spot Jake.

Wednesday and Thursday they are going to be doing interior shoots in the area, but will be back on Friday starting at 6pm and shooting all night until 6am Saturday morning.

Looking back at the making of An Enemy, Villeneuve worked around the flow of Toronto shooting street scenes on the weekends and maximizing time on Sundays for exteriors in the city.  For Prisoners he has used to the surrounding suburbs and locales to their fullest potential to minimize shooting in downtown Atlanta.  It is not only an good economic choice (it costs a lot to shut everything down) but also good time management as well. 

While it seem like the production is on and off and all over the place in terms of scheduling, with such a large cast with a multilayer story not everyone is shooting everyday.  By scheduling it based around characters it can have some actors to come in and shoot their whole block of the story at one time. A week or two and they can go, and if need to get call back later for re-shoots if needed.   It can also give the major characters like Hugh's and Jake's time downtime between their scenes. And it seems like Villeneuve knew he would be having to work around award Hugh's award season schedule and Jake's well....just schedule period.

Ask any director and they will tell you filming anything is a logistical puzzle or nightmare (based on how you see it) trying to coordinate schedules and maximize locations and stretching every dollar you've got.

Momma & Me

Jake got a little Mom time today when he visited them shooting in Brooklyn.

Sticking to the Black Ops look he seemed he might actually enjoying talking to a photographer.  Who knew?

After after a tweet last night it didn't seem he was that much of a fan.

What a difference a day makes.  Or maybe just the location.  Or the company. (Or the lack of company today.

And nope Jake is not trying to do an upstairs downstairs look with his pants, it is more likely he hopped on a bike to ride over and see Mom.

He such a big guy now.  All grown up and lost his dork disc too.

Jakey smiles and sun look great on you.  Keep it up we don't get to see them or you enough.

It's like it's Two Wheel Tuesday two days late.

City Camo Looks or Always Sunny after Paris

Jake popped up to visit Mama G on the set of the movie she is directing.

And looks like he has gotten a little color since he's wrapped his own movie.

Rested with a bit of a glow.

And while the rest of Gotham sweltered Jake couldn't leave the matching jacket that went with the short at home. 

Where would it be chilly enough that you need a jacket?  A movie theater perhaps.  A movie set in NY in July no.

He worked the look into a city skort look, camo kilt or maybe just the metro mullet midriff.

Jake's even taking "every hallway is a runway" to the streets.

But there's no reason to hide is assests  is there?

But he sure can rock the tee.

And we see your eyes and your dimples at the same time!?!?  To use your word Jake. Amazing!

EXCLUSIVE: It looked good there for a day but Jake Gyllenhaal’s deal to star in the Albert Hughes-directed Motor City has veered off the road. Talks fell apart, over scheduling, I hear. The actor wanted to push the dates and financier Dark Castle did not. They are putting together lists for another actor to star in the film in the role of an ex-military man who is framed and sees his life and gal taken away by the bad guy. Gary Oldman and Amber Heard are already set in the Chad St. John-scripted film.

It's Showtime for Austin.

Zap2it is thrilled to exclusively report that "OTH" star Austin Nichols has landed a role in Showtime's "Ray Donovan" pilot, alongside Liev Schreiber in the title role.

Ray Donovan is a professional "troubleshooter" in LA, called on to dig the city's wealthiest, most elite clientele out of their various messes. Nichols will play Tommy West, an A-list movie star who seeks Ray's help when he finds himself in a tough bind.

Nichols joins a formidable cast full of star names -- including Kate Moennig as Ray's colleague Lena, Jon Voight as Ray's father Mickey, and Elliott Gould as Ray's mentor Ezra.

Again Jake's name is mentioned for another role, this time for Motor City, the story of ex-Army Ranger named John Miller who is framed for a crime he didn’t commit and tracking down the man going after who framed him and stole his true love, so is it a go or no go?

In the spirit of Berlin the Ampelmann and the Ampelfrau that tells you when to go will be today's tour guides for this Tinseltown talk.

With a production start date of six to eight weeks from now, Jake could be the go-to guy.
Why would WME want him to look like he was picking up sloppy seconds from a lesser known actor that had been hand picked by the director, as the first project they get for him. You would think they would be pulling out all the stops for their first collaboration with their new client.

A "minimalist take on an action movie" is it enticing to Jake's Buddhist approach?

Is it too much of a mash up Fast & The Furious and The Fugitive even with the quirk?

Random thoughts at the crossing:
Could this be the way WME is keeping a buzz on Jake while he chooses to focus more on home than movies?Or could it be part of the plan WME has that will build out over the next few months?Was this another reason Austin came to Berlin?

With every part that comes Jake's way there comes critiques of the choices he's made.

What we do know is a go:

Is that Jake will be helping to celebrity a man who held so many, and who understood that being a celebrity is not just about yourself but also helping others.

Jake will join pal Jimmy Fallon, Josh Groban, Paul Simon and Trisha Yearwood others for ‘A Celebration of Paul Newman’s Dream’, which honors the life and work for charity of his late godfather on April 2 at NY's Lincoln Center.

The evening will benefit Paul Newman’s Association of Hole in the Wall Camps, which supports children facing serious illnesses from around the world.

Movie Making is like what?

What the he..y? Just keep reading.

We all mess up. We all disappoint, anger, and even hurt people. We're human. It's all about the just trying to do it less, and trying to make it better the next time. Its the process, not the perfection.

That's how today is like movie making, a new take and new chance to make it better. Sometimes you get it in the first take, and other times you just have to keep trying over and over. Its the process more often than not that's the real lesson not the final version.

Have you ever heard an actor or a director who's said "That's it, it's perfect, I can do no more." Granted some think they are perfect and can do know wrong, but when talking about their role or movies, the usual answer is "If I could change that I would,"" next time I would do it this way." Its the process, the act.

Yom Kippur's (יוֹם כִּפּוּר‎) themes are atonement and repentance. It's saying I messed up and I need another take.

Now making amends isn't as easy at it looks, it should be and it shouldn't be. It should be easy to look at yourself admit what you've done, but it never is. And it shouldn't be easy because of some of the things you've done, some of the big stuff and even the little stuff , can be really lousy and you need to know that its lousy. Kind of like looking at dailies.

Today's a fresh start another year to work harder and get it better. For some every new day is a fresh start and another chance to get it right.

Cut yourself and others some slack - just try to make the next take better.
